Radio Morning
davidryle
"A real time recording of the Moog Subharmonicon, EH Canyon Looper, Empress Reverb, Encore Frequency Shifter, a custom RADIO module for the 5U large format modular, Dove Audio WTF VCO, synthesizers.com Q150 filter and Echo Fix EF-X2 tape delay.
The radio module is voltage controlled by a Q119 step sequencer from synthesizers.com. It is run into the frequency shifter and a mix of several noise and stored random voltages from the Sputnik West Coast Random Source (a Buchla Source of Uncertainty clone) is modulating the frequency center. This is then run to an STG Post Lawsuit Low Pass Filter and on to an Oakley Audio state variable filter in band pass resonant mode. I am playing the center frequency of this filter and sending the signal on to the Echo Fix tape delay. The delay is voltage controlled from a Mega Ohm Audio LFO2 module from the 5U modular with a very slow rising ramp wave. As the voltage drops off the tape delay motor sweeps back down with a wonderful gliding effect.
The Subharmonicon is clocked from another Mega Ohm Audio LFO2. The output of Sequencer 2 is sent to a Dove Audio Window Transform Function VCO and gated to a Q109 Envelope Generator as well as run through the Q150 Transistor Ladder filter by synthesizers.com.
A separate instance of the Subharmonicon was previously recorded to the Electro Harmonix Canyon pedal looper. It is faded up at the last portion to add momentum to the piece. The Empress Reverb pedal is adding some nice modulated reverb to the SubH and Canyon.
What I really enjoyed was the glorious runaway feedback of the tape echo. It was fun to balance out the moving swells at the same time as playing the sub oscillators on the SubH and Oakley filter. As I moved about the antenna of the radio varied in how strong the signal picked up the AM radio stations. This lended another modulation and random aspect to the waveforms injected into the piece. A fun exercise."

Hikari MONOS: The Ultimate Chaos Synthesizer? [LivePerformance] [NoTalking]
video upload by Andre Bregegere
"This video features an live performance highlighting the Hikari MONOS, a unique synthesizer that generates a wide range of noise textures and rhythmic patterns through combination of a noise generator and an oscillating low-pass filter. The performance was recorded live, and is presented here with minimal edits.
The Monos is accompanied by the Kirscher Microfilter, a MS-20 (resonant low-pass filter) clone, and two devices by Error Instruments, the Control Freak and the Radio Sputnik uvb-76, here both used for CV modulation of the Monos and/or the filter cutoff. The Monos also goes through a mixer with Delay & Reverb send (UAFX Starlight Echo Station & Golden Reverberator).
Finally, the recording was lightly mixed and mastered in Pro Tools. Enjoy!

"Good luck, Astronauts" - on Wersi Comet
video upload by organfairy
"It's funny how music for science fiction movies has changed over the years: Back in the 1950's the movie 'Forbidden Planet' was noted for it's out-of-this-world music that was played on non-musical electronic instruments - instruments designed more for laboratory and experimental use.
Later in the 1960's science fiction music was more about rhythmic beeps and weird tingling sounds - the beeps probably inspired by the radio signal that the Soviet satelite Sputnik send down to earth while it circled the globe outside the atmosphere.
Later science fiction music was more about lush classical arrangements with some electronic sound effects added.
This piece of music is from the late 1960's and it falls in the beep-and-tingling category. It is written by the Danish organ player Peter Erling but I don't know exactly when it was recorded as there are no indications on the album and both the record company and Erling himself has been dead for decades. I transcibed the music myself and I found some close-enough Sputnik effects on my old Wersi Comet organ."

Patch Notes #31 - Varigate 8+, Voltage Block & Chord Organ
Published on Mar 3, 2017 Voltage Control Lab
"I was setting up a generative patch using the Malekko Varigate 8+ and Voltage Block, and discovered that Music Thing had released a new module/Radio Music firmware, the Chord Organ, so I had to use it.
Varigate 8+ outputs 5 through 8 are randomized using Random Gate mode, with the END gate out routed back into the RND input, generating slightly (or not so slightly) randomized rhythms from those outs, as well as the Voltage Block when in slave mode. The V8 clock out is routed to the VB clock in, so the clock/slave modes can be toggled, randomizing the VB sequences in slave mode but not in clock mode.
V8 channel 5 is routed out to Make Noise Maths channel 1 trigger input, then from the unity output to trigger the Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas, and from the channel 1 out to the pitch input on the BI to give a little punchier of a kick. The output is routed to the Malekko Mix4.
Channel 6 on the V8 is routed to the trigger input on the Mutable Instruments Braids, which is in snare mode, then out to the Mix4. One channel on the Voltage Block is routed to the FM input, which is set to modulate the volume level of the internal VCA, giving the snare some more feel (hopefully).
Channel 7 is routed out to trigger channel 4 on Maths, the unity output from which is opening the Optomix channel for the Chord Organ. The root note and chord quality on the Chord Organ are controlled by two separate channels on the Voltage Block, then routed through the Make Noise MMG filter, into the Optomix and on to Mutable Instruments Clouds for some reverb and granularizing. Then, out to the Mix4.
Channel 8 is routed to the Malekko AD/LFO, which is opening the 2nd channel on the Optomix. This channel is creating the crunchy high frequency percussion from the Malekko Anti-Oscillator, frequency modulated by the the Sputnik Oscillator, both “sequenced” by two random voltage sources from the Sputnik West Coast Random Source. The Anti-Osc is routed to the Optomix and then on to the Mix4.

"starts with white nose as the sound source. direct out with some reverb.
0:52 two note sequence on the tip top/buchla 258t oscillator.
the two note sequence is clocked x8 so it changes every 8 steps on the 1050.
2:10 I then add a second oscillator getting a different sequencer into the second spectral input, so some 1050 steps are one oscillator and some are another. and i Switch to an LPG routing with more reverb and delay.

"Pre-eclipse techno session on a hot Saturday afternoon.
Patch notes, in order of voice appearance: Verbos Harmonic Oscillator Output 6 ring-modulated (via Circuit Abbey Twiggy, bottom channel as ringmod and upper channel as VCA) by Verbos Complex Oscillator A saw wave. Harmonic Oscillator master output drone has Tilt modulated by a rhythmic gate from Pamela’s New Workout and Center modulated by an LFO from Batumi. Acid bassline from Abstrakt Instruments Avalon, which drives the whole patch over DINSync via an ALM D.S.G. into Pamela’s New Workout. Kick drum is my customized Bugbrand DRM-1, hi-hats are the TipTop Hats909 (seen hanging out below the drum rack), additional percussion from the Radio Music (custom metal-on-metal grinding field recording) and Loquelic Iteritas into Bastl Skis; all drum programming done live via the Bastl Knit Rider, and modulated by the Qu-Bit Nano Rand. Drums mixed with SSF Mixmode and distorted by Audio Damage Shapes. West Coast voice comes from the Complex Oscillator, modulated by LFO from Batumi and the Verbos Random Sampling, sequenced by Verbos Voltage Multistage. Envelopes from an Intellijel Quadra, triggered either from the Voltage Multistage or Pamela’s New Workout. Mixed by Sputnik Six Channel Mixer, recorded straight to iPhone via Line6 Sonic Port. No audio post-processing applied."

Buchla 200 and 2HP Loop
video upload by Memetune Studio
"Here is another Buchla exploration with the Sputnik 289 and also a set of 2hp modules - the Loop and the Pitch which are a really great way of capturing audio (up to 5 mins) and then messing with it
In this patch I have got 2 channels going through the 289, 2 channels coming from the VRS23 and one from the 2hp modules, all being mixed and recorded through the Teenage Engineering TX-6
The result sounds something like me tuning a radio while falling down a mine shaft into an underground cavern filled with wasps"

Borderlands
Published on Jul 9, 2016 davidryle
"I recall driving along Highway 9 in south New Mexico from El Paso, Texas to Animas, New Mexico on the way to Tucson, Arizona. The long bouncy road made an unforgettable impression of the remote southern US border region.
I tried to produce the drone impression of the road noise and wide open scenic expanse in this project.
A live studio take of the modular synthesizer recorded in Cubase and captured by the iPhone. Video edited in Final Cut Pro.
Some module patch highlights include the MI Clouds in Parasite Resonator mode dealing with a few voltage controlled radio station audio signals and one of the melodic sequencer lines.
The bass line is a Q960 step sequencer sent to a Q106 vco through a Yusynth Minimoog LPF. It is sent through a Modcan dual delay and Lexicon studio delay. There is a doubling with the MakeNoise Mysteron through a STG Sea Devils filter and the TipTop Z-DSP with Halls of Valhalla.
Other sequencer lines play various slow melodic passages over the top. Some of the vco sources are half dozen Q106's, Mos Lab 901 + 904A suite, Harvestman Piston Honda and Ian Fritz Synthetic Sound Labs DDVCO through Yusynth Arp 4072 LPF. Effects included Strymon Blue Sky reverb, Behringer DD400 delay, SSL 1310 digital delay, Lexicon MX200's and TC Electronics D-Two.
A periodic low frequency drum sound is generated by an envelope to a STG Post Lawsuit LPF and noise from a Sputnik WCRS.
Clock timing handled by Cubase to Future Retro Mobius which drove the STG Soundlabs sequencer suite, 4MS RCS and QCD and Moon Modular dividers, Pressure Points as well as the Q960 and Q119 sequencers"

Droni di un futuro passato | Error Instruments Radio Sputnik UVB-76 | Soundmit Video [NO TALK] #02
video by SOUNDMIT
Googlish:
"We had for a few days in the studio this little gem of Error Instruments, a Drone generator with a part dedicated to patch cables, a micro-modular with very intriguing sounds and characteristics.
We combined it with a Grayscale Microcell (Mutable Instruments Clouds clone), a Jomox ModBase MK2 for the kick sound (we will see it in an upcoming review in detail) and the prototype (final finally) of Faselunare's Vega. All rhythms (except kick) are the work of Vega. All controlled by an always good Beatstep Pro. (There is also a MatrixMixer and a couple of delays)
While you watch and listen to the video (I recommend headphones or a generous bass system)."
