OS Update introduces 10-voice Poly Chain, new arpeggiator patterns, Whiplash arp timing mode, and violet noise.

San Francisco, CA — November 6, 2025— Sequential today announced a major OS update for its popular Take 5 polyphonic synthesizer, delivering powerful new features that expand its creative capabilities. This update is free for all Take 5 owners and is available now from the Sequential website.

The centerpiece of the update is Poly Chain, which allows two Take 5s to be linked for a fully integrated 10-voice instrument. This means players can perform bigger chords and more complex arrangements without worrying about voice stealing. All front-panel controls are mirrored from one unit to the other for seamless sound tweaking, as if they were a single, expanded synth.

The arpeggiator gets a serious creative boost with 10 new play modes designed to inspire fresh rhythmic and melodic ideas. The highlight of the update is Poly Chain, enabling two TEO-5 units to be linked for a fully synchronized 10-voice Oberheim experience. This allows for complex chords and lush textures without compromise, and all panel controls are mirrored across both units for consistent sound and performance.

"In this video, I demo all 50 patches from my new J3PO OB Tribute library for Spectrasonics' Omnisphere--a patch bank dedicated to the legendary Oberheim synthesizers.

This collection is inspired by the iconic Oberheim synths: OB-X, OB-Xa, OB-8, OB-6, Matrix-12, and the Two Voice Pro. Every patch was built inside Omnisphere using Oberheim-style oscillators and filters, with a few custom samples from my own Oberheim synths to bring even more analog character into the mix.

In this demo, I use the OB-6 strictly as a MIDI controller to play the sounds (and for some visual homage to the great OB synthesizers). All the sounds you are hearing are coming from within Omnisphere--including the FX.

NEW MODULE! MATRIX VCF User Guide - Vintage 16-Mode Filter & VCA by AJH SYNTH for #eurorack

"NEW MODULE! The MATRIX VCF & VCA by AJH SYNTH is a 16-mode filter based on the vintage Oberheim Matrix 12 & Xpander synthesisers of the 1980's. It has all 15 filter types of the original synth filter, plus an additional 4-pole all pass filter mode, AND a switchable resonance and distortion circuit based on the Polivoks synth, which flips the character of the filter on its head. It can go from smooth and crisp, to aggressive overdrive with screaming resonance in an instant. It is 14hp, and features its own built-in VCA, negating the need for an additional module to amplify its output, saving valuable rack space.

Frequency is controllable by 4 different CV inputs, resonance can also be controlled by CV, naturally the VCA, but also filter Mode can be selected by control voltages, meaning that a huge range of automation is possible, in addition to the physical pots for manual tweaking.

I have used this Polyphonic Analog Powerhouse on nearly every original song, official remix, recreation and audio/visual project I have produced since I acquired it over 15 years ago.

And this is my longest video to date, clocking in at just over 30 minutes!

The OB-8 is recorded through a Universal Audio Volt 476 and the individual voice panning is set to about a 20% width.

Released in 1983, the Oberheim OB8 is a premium analog synthesizer with 8 voices of polyphony, the ability to split and double sounds, individual panning for each of the voices, 3 LFOs, Polyphonic Portamento and an Arpeggiator."

Tom reissued the synth that started it all, the Synthesizer Expander Module, in 2009, the first official synthesizer to carry Tom Oberheim's name in over a decade. The new SEM used nearly the same circuitry as the original, retaining the original sound and the internal modular patch-point capabilities. It used the same multimode VCF and voice architecture that fans knew and loved from 35 years prior. New to this generation of SEM was the addition of 33 connection points on a patch panel for interfacing with Eurorack modular synths."
