KORG Z1 - 64 Contemporary Presets - The MOSS Sessions (Sound Library)
video upload by RM Studios
"The KORG Z1 remains one of the most ambitious and expressive synthesizers ever created.
Powered by Korg’s legendary MOSS (Multi-Oscillator Synthesis System) engine, the Z1 pushed physical modeling and virtual analog synthesis far beyond the standards of its era, delivering an extraordinary range of sounds with unmatched depth, movement, and playability.
Yet, despite the instrument’s incredible capabilities, most available sound libraries still rely on programming approaches and sonic aesthetics dating back to the late ’90s.
We felt it was time to give this iconic synth a fresh voice.
"The MOSS Sessions” is a completely new sound collection designed specifically to showcase the real power of the MOSS engine with a modern production approach. This library delivers 64 contemporary, inspiring, and instantly usable programs for both studio production and live performance.

Cherry Audio | Expressive Sound Design with Andrew Longhurst
video upload by Cherry Audio
"More expressive performance can be achieved through various technologies and techniques such as velocity, channel aftertouch (pressure), polyphonic aftertouch, and MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE). These features allow compatible synthesizer instruments and controllers to mimic the subtle dynamics of acoustic instruments.
In this video, musician, producer, and sound designer @AndrewLonghurst demonstrates his approach to expressive sound design, showcased through his collection of presets for Ensoniq ESQ-1 by Cherry Audio. He provides demonstrations of each technique using the new Expressive E Osmose CE MIDI controller and discusses his choices for setting up these advanced modulations in a preset.
These techniques can be widely applied to other Cherry Audio virtual instruments. Be sure to check the product feature listings and documentation to determine which instruments specifically support some or all of these methods. Additionally, consult your MIDI controller documentation, as compatibility for channel aftertouch, polyphonic aftertouch, and especially MPE can vary significantly in this evolving market.

"Behringer JT-2: My 2 Cents
With all the available 'heavily-inspired-but-not-clones' from Behringer, I’m starting to wonder when the company will introduce original synths again. Anyhow... This time, I’m taking a closer look at the Behringer JT-2, a paraphonic synth inspired by Roland’s Jupiter-8. It comes in similar colours but certainly doesn’t carry over the visual aesthetics of the '80s flagship synth. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as Behringer can keep costs down by using one chassis for a plethora of different models. At a budget-friendly price point, you get a lot of synth in a unit that doesn’t take up too much valuable studio real estate, either. But first things first...

Happiness is a warm chip | 8-bit Nintendo EP
video upload by Jay Hosking
Additional HapiNES posts
"Please support my work on Patreon: / jayhosking
Five chip tunes made with the limitations of the original NES.
00:00 - Stage 1
02:41 - Underworld
05:07 - Cutscene into battle
08:07 - Peace and war
09:55 - Overworld
I grew up on video game music, and it's probably a large part of why I love synthesizers today. What impresses me most about those old soundtracks is how much they can achieve with such a limited voice count and, to a lesser extent, sound palette. (I actually adore the sounds, so I don't see them as limiting.) The Nintendo Entertainment System had two mono synth square waves, one extremely chunky triangle wave mono for bass, and then a noise oscillator for percussion. There was also an extremely low-resolution sampler ("Blades of Steel!") but I chose not to reproduce that here.
For a while, I had been thinking about working within the limitations of the original NES. I could do that on any modern groovebox or synth, of course, but I wanted the limitations forced on me, and I wanted something that got me close to the original sound without a lot of work. Thanks to my Patreon community, I was able to pick up the Twisted Electrons hapiNES L, which emulates the old NES chip sounds, right down to the mono (not stereo!) out.
Once I had the sounds in place, I wanted a way to quickly write and structure songs. The Teenage Engineering OP-XY proved a good choice, because it's quick, has two octaves to play on, has a smart and creative transposition tool, and has an excellent song mode for structuring longer compositions. I also wanted to use some other sequencing tools, so I pulled out the Oxi One Mk2 for the final song. I didn't find it was quite as effective for the song-mode sequencing, but its new Chord Palettes mode led me in some extremely interesting musical directions.
I could have kept going, but five days seemed like a good haul of NES music for now, and proof to myself that I could do it again in the future. I know the music here might not be to everyone's tastes, but it satisfies the kid in me and makes me wish I had an 8-bit game to write a soundtrack for.
Thanks for listening.

Redshift 6: Can This Analog Synth Replace Your VSTs?
video upload by Music Journey with Paul
"At Superbooth 2026, I spoke with Timo from Supercritical Synthesizers about one of the most ambitious analog polysynths on the market today - a unique 6-voice analog polysynth from Finland that takes a very different approach to synthesis.
With 96 analog oscillators, multi-timbral architecture, MPE support, evolving firmware updates and a variable character engine that can shift between different vintage-inspired flavors, Redshift 6 blurs the line between traditional analog hardware and modern software flexibility.
In this interview and sound demo we talk about who Redshift 6 is for, how its unusual interface works, the latest firmware innovations, and why some of its sounds might make you think you’re listening to a DX-style digital synth - even though the signal path remains analog.

SUONOBUONO POLYVERA [01] // LØSTLVLS
video upload by LØSTLVLS
"Meet the Suonobuono Polyvera, a very special polyphonic hybrid desktop synth released in 2025.
I've been wanting a synth that uses samples as oscillators for quite a while, but it's a fairly barren market. The Prophet X was at the top of my wishlist, but other than the cost, I don't need a keyboard and I'm not fussed about analogue oscillators. Vintage samplers with analogue filters were considered, but I don't fancy implementing that 'charming' workflow into my studio!
The Polyvera is a versatile instrument, a perfect modern fusion of classic wavetable and sample-based synths like the Waldorf Microwave and Ensoniq Mirage respectively, but very much its own thing. As you'll hear in this clip, the Polyvera sounds rich and 'fulsome', with gritty textures easy to achieve throughout the signal chain.
This was recorded during my first session with the Polyvera, straight after unboxing. Enjoy and thanks for watching!
Check out my sample packs on Bandcamp - loads of vintage and modern gear (leaning towards drum machines) with kits, sample chains and presets. All ethically-sourced and locally-grown here in the lab in Bristol, UK: https://lostlvls.bandcamp.com/"

"Curves & Membranes is a focused mono synth built around a shapeable Bézier oscillator, two visual modulation systems, and a membrane-based filter. In this full walkthrough I go through the core ideas behind the instrument, how the oscillator works, how the preset morphing and orbital modulators create movement, and how the membrane filter shapes the sound.
The goal with Curves & Membranes was not to make a do-everything synth, but to build something more specific: a synth where sound, shape, and motion are tightly connected, and where the structure stays easy to understand while still allowing a lot of character and timbral movement.
More info: https://www.unusable.net/"
And a playlist of addtional plug-ins by Unusable Engineering:
Playlist:
1. Synaptic Resonance | Neural Vocoder Walkthrough
Synaptic Resonance is a neural vocoder-style effect where incoming audio, or an optional sidechain, excites a two-dimensional neural simulation. That simulation is then read back somewhere else and used to animate a bank of forty steep resonant band-pass filters.
In this walkthrough I go through the basic idea behind the plugin, show how the Stim Plane and Read Plane shape the behavior, and explain how the neural controls affect the way the model reacts, spreads, remembers, recovers, and settles.
The core idea is fairly simple: the input excites the model, and the output is affected by reading the model. That is what gives the plugin its character. It can behave like a vocoder, a resonant filter instrument, or something more unstable and alive depending on how it is set up.

Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave — The COMPLETE Review (Every Feature Explored)
video upload by Scott's Synth Stuff
"The Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave is a 24-voice wavetable synthesizer with real analog filters, three oscillators per voice, and a 6-stage wave envelope that can independently sweep each oscillator through 64-position wavetables. It's built as a modern successor to the PPG Wave 2.2 and 2.3, carrying the original PPG wavetables alongside 56 high-resolution modern wavetables, analog-modeled waveforms, and — as of OS 1.8 — a built-in sampler. In this review, I go through every major feature of the 3rd Wave in detail: the four oscillator types (PPG legacy, modern user wavetables, analog-modeled, and samples), the dual filter architecture (4-pole analog low-pass plus 2-pole zero-delay state-variable), all four envelopes, the four LFOs, the 16-slot modulation matrix, 11 built-in effects, the arpeggiator, the pattern-based sequencer with parameter automation, 4-part multitimbral layering and splits, the Wave Maker custom wavetable tool (including Serum wavetable import), unison with chord memory, MPE support, and more.
Whether you're considering buying one, comparing it to other hardware wavetable synths like the Waldorf Iridium, Modal Cobalt, or ASM Hydrasynth, or just curious what a modern PPG-inspired instrument sounds like in 2025/2026, this is the full picture. I cover every section of the signal chain with sound demos, explain what makes the wave envelope system unique, show how to build patches from scratch, and give my honest take on where the 3rd Wave excels and where it falls short. Timestamps for every section are below — jump to whatever interests you."

Korg USA Mourns the Passing of Jack Hotop, Legendary Sound Designer and Innovator
Some sad news in via Korg.
You can find posts on MATRIXSYNTH featuring Jack Hotop here for a look back on his influence in the synthesizer community. The first post was a simple pic back in 2006.
Press release from Korg follows:
Over a 40-Year Career, the Influential Synthesist and Accomplished Touring Keyboardist Shaped the Sonic Architecture of More Than 100 Landmark Instruments, Including the Historic M1 Workstation
MELVILLE, N.Y. - Korg USA announces with deep sadness the passing of longtime employee, celebrated sound designer, and musical instrument industry icon Jack Hotop. Joining Korg USA (then Unicord) in 1983, Hotop started as Senior Voicing Manager and spent over four decades driving the development, sound design, programming, voicing, and product demonstrations for more than 100 Korg products. As a pioneering engineer and exceptionally skilled performer, his extensive contributions helped guide the evolution of synthesizers and digital workstations from the early 1980s through the modern era, leaving an indelible imprint on instruments used by musicians around the world and for generations to come.
Hotop’s foundational expertise was anchored in a rigorous musical and technical background. Raised in a musical family, he began piano lessons at age seven, inspired by his father, a musician featured on several Broadway cast recordings, and numerous pianists on his mother’s side. By age 14, he was actively performing in local bands on a Gibson 101 organ. He pursued formal training at the Berklee College of Music, majoring in arranging, composition, and accompaniment, before expanding into emerging music technology at the Boston School of Electronic Music under Roger Powell. It was there that Hotop established his core synthesis fundamentals using early hardware including the ARP Odyssey, 2600, 2500, and EMS Synthi, building a deep understanding of waveforms, envelopes, low-frequency oscillators, and modulators.

Broken Reverb is Better Reverb (free IRs and samples)
video upload by Oscillator Sink
"Get the IRs and Samples here: https://oscillatorsink.gumroad.com/l/...
There's an aesthetic trend in modern effects, especially in ambience effects like reverb and delay, which points towards embracing and accentuating digital imperfection.
It turns out that the glitching, aliasing, distortion and noise that engineers traditionally worked so hard to dial out of gear actually sounds pretty amazing when used creatively and intentionally.
Many FX companies have really embraced this way of working, adding controls to their effects which allow musicians to digitally degrade the sound in wonderful ways - intentionally circuit bending their instruments by design.
Another way, though, to achieve these sounds might be to buy an old, cheap reverb from ebay and circuit bend it. This electronic abuse, forces the unit into leaning into these artifacts whether it wants to or not! The results may be more chaotic, but they might also be even more fun and potentially more affordable.

I've already used the Solis Ventus in other video here, so there was no particular need to create a video focused on it. However, I usually explore new gear by just placing it on the table and seeing what comes out. I thought maybe nothing would come of it, or maybe I'd make a single song. In the end, I kept writing more and more with it, all in different styles and genres. The reverbs in the Solis Ventus are fine, but there's some real weirdness and magic in the delays, and they kept delighting and surprising me. In the end, I decided to share three songs with you from these explorations, although there's some more on my Patreon.
00:00 - Post-rock with synths instead of guitar
03:52 - Pure ambient with Pluto
06:17 - Rock starting with L1
Ultimately, what I hope comes through is that effects aren't something simply to colour or smooth over a sound; effects can be the very thing that inspires the songwriting process. That's what happened in all of these instances, and more.
Gear used:
Arturia Astrolab 37 (keys)
GFI Solis Ventus (delay and reverb)
Squier Bass VI (bass-guitar hybrid)
Line 6 Pod Express Bass (for bass amp sim)
Moog Subsequent 37 (mono synth melody)
Novation AFX Station (mono synth lead)
Modern Sounds Pluto (mini euro synth sandbox)
Donner L1 (mono synth random arp)
Godin Session Custom '59 (guitar)
Strymon Iridium (for guitar amp sim)
Union Tone & Transistor Lab (compressor for guitar)
Electro-Voice RE-20 (vocal mic)
Probably more I'm forgetting
Multi-tracked, mixed in the box (except the Pluto song, which was live to stereo out, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master).
