PlayFader PlayMates - Elektron Syntakt ⚡️ fragments and moments of firmware testing
video upload by Play All Day
"I was using the @elektron Syntakt to test some firmware updates and it was too much fun not to share. This isn't a whole performance, just some selected clips from a longer 30 minute exploration.
Connected with just one MIDI TRS to 5-pin cable, I’m controlling tracks 2 & 5 with Channels A & B of PlayFader. Syntakt is only sequencing the drums, the rest is PlayFader… including the master clock, Syntakt is the slave 😏
I don’t think I’ve had as much fun with an Electron box before!
It’s endlessly creative and inspiring to actually play the Syntakt rather than just program a sequence and press start…
I’m not a Syntakt expert by any means though, and I’m not really that good at making techno either, but it when in Rome… had to be done.
One other cool aspect of this setup is that you can also record everything you’re doing on PlayFader into the Elecktron sequencer!!! 👊💥I don’t show it here but it is very simple, just press record and you’re capturing grooves on the fly, ready for editing, playing and even storing them into new patterns!
Love and Patches

PlayFader PlayMates - Intellijel Atlantix, Roland Aira S-1, Algoriddim DJAY Pro, Ableton Live & Link
video upload by Play All Day
"PlayFader is made in Cyprus and I’ve just relocated back to Cyprus permanently after 30 years away. I really miss the place and I’m so happy to be home.
At the same time as arriving, the amazing @caroline_myvolts introduced me to Dim, head honcho at @synthesizergr and he wanted to stock PlayFader. This means so much to me, to have a Cypriot-made electronic music device being sold in Athens, Greece 🇨🇾❤️🇬🇷
So… PlayFader is now available in @synthesizergr
I wanted to do something special to celebrate this 🫠
I wanted to make a full length performance for Dim and celebrate the best of modern Greek dj’s and producers while showcasing PlayFader as the expressive and creative instrument that it is. Especially in one of my favourite contexts, as a live sequencer that you can use to perform while dj’ing. I’m after all more of a dj than a producer. And this is my happy place where I absolutely fucking love to use PlayFader 👊
Dim pointed me in the direction of @echonomist_music and I instantly found this track that I fell in love with. It’s about homecoming and joy… 💛
What you see in this video is only the 2nd take, totally improvising over the entirety of the track “Happiest of all memorial days”.
It would have been the 1st take but I forgot to plug the audio into the camera 😂
There are some slightly less perfect moments, but I was absolutely in my flow state and enjoyed every second of playing!
And that’s the point I wanted show. PlayFader is a live performance instrument and a wise genius synth-builder once said “instruments reward practice and perseverance”. (Vlad from Soma thank you 🙏)
Me and Jason designed PlayFader to give users lots of support and freedom - stay tightly locked into the groove and wander far away from it at any time, always with the option to come back to where you were.
There’s lots going on in this, too much to explain in detail here. It’s 7 minutes long and uses lots of features like the dual buffers, live switching, Latch play, Fun fx, ratchets etc etc.
Left channel is playing @rolandsynthandaira S-1. Right channel is playing the @intellijel Atlantix. I’m using @algoriddimofficial djay Linked to @ableton 💛
Enjoy ❤️"

The Crow Hill Company Introduces POCKET STRING no-barrier-to-entry-styled string library plug-in
video upload by CROW HILL XTRAS
Press release follows:
"The Crow Hill Company creates POCKET STRINGS as no-barrier-to-entry-styled string library plug-in produced without compromise… with added ‘synthy spice’
EDINBURGH, UK: having recently rebranded itself with an aesthetic that truly realises company co-founder and composer Christian Henson’s heartfelt dream of encouraging people to make music and help them on their journey, regardless of whatever point they were at and wherever their journey began, The Crow Hill Company continues its journeying into ‘Season Two’ as a producer of resources and tools to protect, inspire, support, and provide opportunities for music-makers the world over, believing that music is, and should remain, a wholly human experience, one that is by far one of the most powerful forms of expression, escape, comfort, and remembrance, of which its newly-created POCKET STRINGS — styled as a definitive string library plug-in that opens the doors to collaboration between anyone anywhere, creatively combining live cinematic orchestral recordings with some rarefied vintage synth classics made to measure for added body, depth, and character — readily represents the cornerstone of this ethos, as of July 10…
“A string library that’s accessible to all without compromise — a distillation of the last 25, nearly 30, years that I’ve been working as a media composer, which means that I write music for film, TV, and computer games, giving you the very basic necessities to write pro-end string arrangements. Whether that be adding to productions, songs, collaborating with others, or, indeed, creating professional film scores — whether that be to demo for an orchestra to play, or, indeed, to go to broadcast, there’s been no compromises here. But accessibility is the key — not just with the price point, but with usability.” So says Christian Henson himself, perfectly positioned — as The Crow Hill Company’s original founder, forging forward by building upon his extensive experience gained from founding Spitfire Audio to originally offer a palette of sounds he had created for his own use as a professional composer to his film world colleagues by invitation only, though the rest, as they say, is history — to proudly introduce POCKET STRINGS as a never-tried-before strings library plug-in that aims to bring broadcast-grade string possibilities to everyone.

Adamsynths Warthog Update & Q&A

via Adamsynths
"Earlier this year at Superbooth, Adamsynths unveiled the Warthog: our total recall analog modular synthesizer.
We had tons of interest and loads of great questions from you — and now we’d love to answer some of the most common ones right here.
Is the Warthog a pre-assembled desktop synth, or a fully modular one I can customize?
Great question! The Warthog is a true plug-and-play analog modular synth. You can choose the modules you want, arrange them how you like, and build a setup that suits your workflow perfectly.
Can I use modules from other manufacturers in the Warthog?
Absolutely. The Warthog case supports standard Eurorack power. Just keep in mind: the RECALL feature only works with official Warthog modules.
Can I put Warthog modules into my existing Eurorack case?
Yes, you can — BUT. Because of the RECALL feature, the Warthog uses a different power and communication system than the usual 16-pin ribbon cable found in most Eurorack setups. That said, we’ll make sure all Warthog modules (and any necessary accessories) are also available separately, without the case.
Can I use Warthog modules together with my current modular system?
Of course! The Warthog fully follows Eurorack standards for all signal connections. It uses the same V/OCT control, and its GATE, TRIG, SYNC inputs and outputs are 5V compatible. Just a reminder: RECALL functionality only works with Warthog modules.
Why are some outputs on the CENTRAL UNIT labeled “D” for digital?
We know this caused a bit of confusion at Superbooth 25. Here’s the deal: all CV outputs are fully analog and operate in ranges like -5V to +5V or 0V to +10V. The “D” outputs — short for “digital” — are used for GATE, TRIG, SYNC, START/STOP, or RESET signals. We call them digital simply because they have two states: ON or OFF, i.e., 0 or 1.
When will we get more detailed info about the Warthog’s specs?
We are working on it! The full technical documentation will be available on our website soon. We will notify you in a newsletter as soon as it is available.
And the big one — when can I pre-order the Warthog and how much will it cost?
Right now, our team is working hard to finalize pricing and prepare for production. There’s still some groundwork to cover, but we’re doing our best every day to get the Warthog into your hands as soon as possible. Hopefully, we’ll be able to share more very soon."

PlayFader PlayMates - Digitakt - Amen Jungle Breaks mash up Pt1
video upload by Play All Day
https://goplayallday.com/
"PlayFader might just be the best jungle breaks mash-up sequencer ever made!
It’s definitely starting to prove itself as powerful and expressive side-car sequencer to @weareelektron devices!
At least that’s what @djrbrunstein thinks and we’re inclined to agree 😎
He’s a wizard on the #digitakt and totally gets inside the machine with PlayFader, creating a fully expressive and powerful junglist-massive playground for live performance.
Now we can’t help but get excited about what this could do with other Elektron devices, especially an #octatrack!!! Any octatrack or Elektron users out there want to show us what they can do with a PlayFader? We’d love to hear from you ✌️
Patch notes:
Playfader controls the first channel of Digitakt in slice mode, with an amen loaded. Moving the fader enables us to play different slices of the break, and the second channel plays an 808 kick as a bassline, the fader controlling the pitch. A different bassline, and different break pattern are recorded into each buffer and we can switch between them. Finally, we mute the right channel and play a different sample on the digitakt to end.
The next video instalment of this series will show you what you can do in this scenario when you start using the FUN FX like Roll & Random! This is when things get really dynamic and powerful 🤘"

Kawai SX-240 soundscape V - Gone away
video upload by MIDERA
"Tonight, my daughter called for me after I put her to bed. It's unusual that she calls for me now as she's gotten older. I used to find it so irritating to get these calls, sometimes 3-4 times a night ("Papaaaaaaaaaa... uhm, I love you"). Now it seems to happen once every few months and is usually something more serious (at least to her), so I run up. She's sitting up in bed telling me about how she was terrified I had "gone away." I think she was just afraid I was going to die (of course, we all are going to some day), but it was hard to get that out of her. Usually the harder days are the days she has the most fun, I guess (maybe creating a lot of memories?). I know we're slowly descending into fewer and fewer days to be together, fewer chances to snuggle before bed, to tell 'Kwazii stories.'
I did tell her that some day I will die - and that I hope that day comes long before her time comes. That I won't be feeling anything when I'm gone, and that I would be happier if it were me and not her. That, of course, didn't really make her feel much better. Me staring at her boogery nose and making a face did. She started giggling, and I knew I had cracked the sadness, which faded, and we could say our good nights.
If you remember me saying the other day I had a financial problem - well, it was that I plugged the Kawai SX-240 back in to play it and it was dead. Nothing would happen. I was miserable, because I was planning to sell it and of course it would die before I could! Well, I managed to fix it. If you ever look up the service manual for this thing, it's horrible. I didn't realize how bad it was until I messaged Bob Grieb about his Tauntek eprom update (thinking maybe a bad eprom was the problem). He said it wasn't likely the problem, but sent me his version of the service manual and you can actually see the traces on it (the online version is so bad it didn't even pick up half the traces!). From there, I could see there was a bad solder joint between Pin 3 of the EPROM (I was right, something was wrong with the EPROM!) and Pin 2 of an adjacent IC. And - well, I brought it back to life. Another successful repair.
Kawai SX-240 and Fractal Audio FM3 for FX."

New Kaleidoscope Mini Desktop Synth Incoming
video uploads by Vadjuse
This one was spotted and sent in via Meska.
Playlist:
1. Teaser. Kaleidoscope mimics a blip blop machine.
2. Teaser 2. Kaleidoscope mimics a boom-tysch machine.
Some raw drums exploration.3. Kaleidoscope. Reload Zone. Post-Apocalyptic Ambient.
In this video I experiment with the generative sequencer of the Kaleidoscope.4. Kaleidoscope. Hypnotic Resonance
The pattern is relatively simple:
1. VCA1 (which means it belongs to track 1) works in a cyclic mode, i.e. it restarts itself.
2. With its end it starts VCA2 (which means it belongs to track 2).
3. VCA2 modulates the period of VCA1, and VCA1 modulates the period of VCA2 (fm synthesis at the rhythm level). Because of this, the length of the pattern wanders a little and creates a pleasant dynamic.
4. Modulation envelope 1 (MODENV1) also works in a cyclic mode and restarts itself, but with a completely different period than the VCA1. This creates an additional rhythmic layer in the overall sound.
5. MODENV1 modulates the wavefolder level of track 2.
6. Track 1 modulates the frequency of track 2, and track 2 modulates the frequency of track 1.
7. All this is seasoned with a comb-filter in delay mode, which creates another rhythmic layer.
The presets for track 1 and track 2 used in this video can be downloaded and loaded into your Kaleidoscope. After the release of the synthesizer, I will publish these and other patches so that you can play with them and modify them yourself.
On the home stretch, Kaleidoscope will be released soon.
On the video new PCB version with
typeC plug
4 channel DAC
improved encoder filtering section
In this video I experiment with a relatively simple patch.
The cyclic modulator changes the symmetry of the triangle wave. From a symmetrical triangle to a saw. This changes the spectrum.
As a result, the filter resonance periodically amplifies individual harmonics. The filter frequency is modulated by the volume envelope.
Since the filter frequencies can be precisely tuned to the MIDI note frequencies, the modulation results in all the natural harmonics of only one octave being cycled through. This makes it seem like there is some kind of sequence in the patch, although in fact there is none - it's just a native process.
At high resonance values, the signal is overloaded in the filter feedback circuit.
The signal is also additionally overloaded in the overdrive block.
All this gets into the comb filter, which works as an echo.
I've been glued to this patch for about a day, which makes me a little sick of it, but I still like it.

The Dual - Stylophone CPM DS-2 + 2xSQ1 jam - Song-a-day 2025
video upload by ChrisLody
"I've been wanting to upload something with the Stylophone CPM DS-2 for ages. It's a very fine bit of gear, mostly designed to make slowly evolving drone sounds. But luckily it's also equip with Eurorack compatible inputs meaning the drone oscillators can play tuneful stuff too. It also has an LFO with a reset function meaning it can be used for basic envelope duties.
I ended with 2 Korg SQ-1's after I bought my Ms20 Mini last year as John (Acrelid) offered it to me at a price I couldn't resist. So here they're clocked together so I can have 2 pitches going to the two different oscillators. There's only one LFO reset so the top SQ1 is used for gates, but the bottom one is set to a different length of steps which makes for some interesting stuff.
The Bastl Bestie and Volcas are doing bog standard stuff. All audio is passing through the reverb in the CPM DS-2"

Belgian Magazine Article Featuring Mario Mathy
This one is in via Jos who had the following to say followed by an English translation of the article.
"Years ago, I sent you information about Mario Mathy (I think 2019). You published it on your blog. [you can find it in previous posts featuring Mario Mathy here] Afterward, Mario Mathy's 'Jumping Dance' went viral and achieved cult status.
Since your blog has become the most comprehensive and important documented synthesizer resource online, the attached article should also be saved for future history. It would be cool if you could share it with the rest of the synthesizer community. I translated it from Dutch to English using Google Translate.
Notice in the picture below the article that the photo was taken during the period when Mario endorsed Korg.
All I can see in the picture is Korg equipment. The song 'Love Dreams' is from his first album.
I expect most of the songs from his first album ‘Hello This is Mario Mathy’ were created using Korg synthesizers (in contrary to what you would expect from the album cover showing only casio).
After his first album, the single 'Jumping Dance' was released in Belgium. 'Jumping Dance' was from his second album, 'Music-Land'.
On his second album, you can hear a noticeable difference in his sound.
This likely resulted from switching from Korg to Casio synthesizers.
Mario was my piano teacher when I was about 15 years old."
You can check out Mario Mathy's releases on Discogs here.
The following is the tranlation of the article pictured in this post.

How To Loop All The Gear In A Studio: Sequencers/Mixers/Synths
video upload by MR TUNA Music
"Hello my friends this video has been a very long time coming. Its been years since I have done an updated studio tour and rundown so I figured today was a good day to catch up!
The reason it's taken so long to do something like this is because I've always been so overwhelmed at the idea of doing it right........ So instead of making a big production out of things we're going to keep it cool and casual and just see what catches out attention as we go. Thats the only way this is ever getting done!
The most important part of my studio is the @ElectricSquad@squarpinstruments Hapax sequencer. The Hapax is connected to every single piece of midi-equipped gear in the studio via 5-pin din or usb and is what allows me to loop everything in sync with each other.
When I play the keybed or change the controls on a synth, I'm not directly playing the gear so much as I'm playing it through the Hapax. With local controls turned off on the synth, all of the notes and midi information is sent OUT to the Hapax and does not trigger the synth in question (yet). After it gets to the Hapax it is run through any enabled MIDI effects and (if recording is armed) is recorded into the loop before it is sent instantaneously back to the synth in real time in a way you cant even tell that its happening. This way you can enable effects like arps and harmonizers on synths that dont have them.
All the audio from every synth and drum machine is sent to the tower of 3 Roland MX-1s. the MX-1s send MIDI sync and power through usb to some AIRA-link enabled pieces of gear and simplifies some cabling that way, and every track can be sent to Logic and recorded individually as its own instrument when combined as an aggregate audio device on my macbook."

Explaining the PlayFader CV/MIDI Sequencer
video upload by mylarmelodies
"In this tutorial/demo I’ll explain the unique way the Playfader CV/MIDI sequencer works, showing the basic keystrokes you need to be able to make, erase, transpose, mute and apply temporary effects to sequences. I’ll also keep the shortcuts onscreen so you don’t need to remember them.
I'm using the Dreadbox NYX, Music Thing Workshop and Roland T-8 here. T-8 supplies clock to the PlayFader. PlayFader sends CV/Gate to the two analog synths.
