"The 3IS center of education to the professions of the sound/image invited me to present concert of cosmic electronic music, in order to make discover with the students this musical style, to work on a live sound multichannel and video event. We discussed the style, evoked Klaus Schulze, Tim Blake, Tangerine Dream lives (from old concerts to new ones, like "Big In Japan", ect ....). I wanted to have something very focused on analog sequencers musical arts.

"This device is an accelerometer-controlled oscillator. It works by reading the position along a 180-degree x-axis and translating to a frequency. In the fully back position, the oscillator is at its lowest note – roughly 100hz (or D3 on the musical scale). As you rotate the hammer forward, pitch increases. In this position, the frequency is roughly 2000hz (or B6 on the musical scale). That’s about a 4-octave range. The controls are straightforward: A red push button on/off switch and a knob to control volume. The ¼ inch audio output jack is located at the bottom of the handle. It’s powered by 3 AAA batteries located inside the enclosure that come included in the unit when purchased. They can be easily replaced by unscrewing the base. Vulcan’s Hammer goes on sale today and retails for $200"

"Like the Roman God Vulcan, what if you could generate immortal oscillations from a mighty hammer? Ponder no more. Vulcan’s Hammer by Electro-Faustus allows you to call to the Gods by simply rotating the device along a 180 degree field. Note range is roughly 100Hz (D3) to 2000Hz (B6). That’s almost 4 octaves! Powered by 3 AAA batteries.
*Like all of our devices, the Vulcan’s Hammer is noisy and glitchy by design. Have fun with it!"
"At NAMM 2025, we caught up with Roman from Black Corporation who walked us through their latest innovations. First up was the Monolith*, a signal generator not created by *Black Corporation*, but developed by *Black Corporation team members. Roman explained that the Monolith allows you to generate presets, LFOs, arpeggiators, and MIDI CC. This versatile device outputs via USB host, TRS MIDI, or USB-C to computer, providing an easy way to enhance your hardware synths with additional oscillators, LFOs, and envelopes.
Then we got a look at the *Expander MK2*, which represents Roman's dream multi-effect processor. Featuring classic delay models including the Lexicon PCM42 and a BBD delay, the Expander MK2 incorporates two types of reverbs - including one developed in collaboration with Maris - as well as a spring reverb with digital pre-delay and a Tilt EQ. With a rich array of modulation options, including a ring modulator and OTA-based phasers, the Expander MK2 is a comprehensive solution for integrating multiple effects. It boasts extensive connectivity options and total recall via MIDI CC. The Expander MK2 is set to ship at the end of spring 2025 at a starting price of $5,000, with pre-orders available for this reduced price before an anticipated increase."

"The DS-4 drum synth, which was released by Toyo Gakki in the 1980s under the "ULT--SOUND" brand and was used by the drummers of Japan's leading techno-pop group, has been revived in modern times. An inspiration for many modern drum machines, the DS-4 is heavily sought after for it's immediacy and ease of programming. As a 45 year old drum synthesizer, finding an original for a reasonable price without needing a complete restoration is not the easiest task. This is why the DS-4M project was brought into existence. Using all original schematics as well as original components, many of which are incredibly rare to find, the DS-4M is meticulously built by hand using thru-hole components. Physically, it is built like a tank to last for decades of enjoyment and creativity. What's more, modern MIDI and CV/GATE inputs have been added along with individual outputs and a high quality, balanced MAIN output ready to take the legacy of the Ultimate Sound DS-4 far into the future. The new functions also add an exciting twist: using the SINE or SQUARE waveforms, DS-4M also works as an up to 4 voice synthesizer, or any combination of drums/percussion with synths with accurate tuning as well"
"The idea behind this soundset is based on an ever-changing soundscapes and transforming presets with their cycles of birth, formation, extinction and possible rebirth. We aimed to create a unique bank of sounds that would reveal the palette of possibilities of our favorite synthesizer, Korg Wavestate. So we produced a captivating product with rich, flowing sound worlds. Here you will find inspiring atmospheres and pads, layered instruments and living sequences!
Many ancient myths tell of transformations. For example, when Apollo is chasing the nymph Daphne, she calls on her river-god father for help and he turns her into a laurel tree to save her. There is a poem «Metamorphoses» by Roman poet Ovid tells of various metamorphoses-transformations: people into animals, plants, constellations, stones, etc. The creation of the world itself is considered a metamorphosis, as is the story of Julius Caesar's transformation into a star.
This soundset with 40 exclusive sample-based performances was carefully crafted by the well-known sound designer, OttO K. Schwarz. The soundset will work with both hardware and software (native) versions of the synthesizer. The proposed sounds will be appropriate for both studio work and live performances. Transform your compositions with this new soundset from LFO Store!
☀ SPECIFICATIONS This soundset include: ♫ 40 exclusive sample-based presets: 8 ARPs, 3 Atmospheres, 3 Basses, 7 Instruments, 6 Leads, 9 Pads & 4 Sequences. All presets are royalty-free! ♫ The sample bank of 1Gb+ (external samplebank should be stored in the settings). ♫ Instructions are included. May the Power and Inspiration be with you!"
As an avid enthusiast of Buchla format modules, I couldn’t resist attending the Buchla & Friends event in downtown Los Angeles. Armed with my camera, I set out to capture the essence of such a unique gathering. I documented the event and later layered my footage with performances on an array of Buchla format setups, featuring gear from Buchla, Keen Association, 1979.ws, Studio.H, Roman/Verbos clones and Buchla re-issues to create an electrifying soundtrack.
The highlight of the event was the M.E.M.S talk by Chip Flynn and Mark Milanovich, which delved into the legacy of Don Buchla. Their dedication to recreating the original designs is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Although I didn’t have the opportunity to record with the M.E.M.S modules myself, their live sound was phenomenal. I hope this HDR video provides a vivid glimpse into their meticulous craftsmanship.
"At Buchla and Friends 2024 we hooked up with Roman Filippov of Black Corporation who has produced a limited edition charity version of his synthesizer, based on the Jupiter-8, with all proceeds going to non-military charities in Ukraine. Filippov also announced his collaboration with Buchla, bringing back vintage modules that were released in the early to mid-70s. These modules have been recreated using modern technology, while still maintaining the core sound of the original Buchla models. They also include new features such as USB and MIDI out, polyphonic aftertouch, and extended tracking capabilities. The Buchla modules are now available for purchase through the Buchla website and the official sourceofuncertainty.com web store.
