this info on page 77 of Peter Forrest's trusty 'A-Z of ANALOGUE SYNTHS, PART 1' - Synthaphone: 37-note (F-F) monosynth with breath control. 1982-84. 'The little wind synth with the big sound!’

8 presets: Tuba, Horn, Trombone, Trumpet, Sax, Clarinet, Oboe, Flute (the lower-pitched ones definitely have more power, as is common with early preset synths). The Portamento controls are On/Off, Auto (i.e. legato-only or always), Rate. Volume knob, Pitch knob (tunable over about 1.5 octaves!), Touch Sensitivity (for the Touch Vibrato, a fine feature allowing you to rhythmically push down on any key for natural vibrato) and Breath Sensitivity. The last refers to the little breath controller (with small mouthpiece attached to one of two narrow rubber tubes about 18' long) which you can attach to one end of the keyboard."

"A true vintage collector’s piece. The EMS VCS3 aka “The Putney” has been used by Brian Eno, Jean-Michel Jarre, Pink Floyd, The Who etc.

This is an extremely clean example with minimal wear and tear. The unit has been wrapped in plastic and stored for decades. Recently unearthed, it was taken to a tech who replaced all electrolytic capacitors, rebuilt the power supply, and got the reverb in working order. This synth is also a very low serial number. Also included in the sale is the rare Cricklewood keyboard."

OBERHEIM OB-Xa (x2 Collector vs Player Grade Demo)

"Here's two very different looking Oberheim OBXA's that just had full restorations at Synth Tailor Electronics. One is in very minty "Collector's Grade" cosmetic condition, and the second one had a very poor life on the road. Surprisingly, the mint OBXa landed in the shop with a lot more problems than the player grade OBXa.

Both units had major restorations to each including: Power Supply Rebuild, Voice Cards/Tray Restorations, Left Hand Controller Rebuild, Upper/Lower Motherboard rebuild, and a Full Calibration/tuning. We installed Bourns 25 turn high quality trimmers on the voice cards (x6 per voice card: PW, Initial Frequency, Volts Per Octave.) This is critical to install high quality trimmers in these to have stable tuning!

Surprisingly, me personally liked how the less desirable cosmetic unit sounded, compared to the nicer cosmetic unit. Both were early revision/ both different revision OBXa's, but both sound great. These truly are such an iconic 1980s Analog Synthesizer designed by the great Tom Oberheim.

As you can see from the photo, it is an MK2 because it has an S-Trig input for remote control (also via midi with an adapter).

The Moog Prodigy is a monophonic analog synthesizer produced between 1979 and 1984, known for its simplicity, accessibility and characteristic warm and powerful sound. "These units where not used allot but have some minor cosmetic defects. Some bottom wear on the DMX but very little on the DSX. The DSX will need a replacement battery (3.6 v with solder tabs ) as these are notorious for leaking so it was removed before being displayed. The DMX has a new battery pack with heavy load capacity that should last the life of the unit. The DMX does not have midi but is configured with the memory upgrade and the latest OS (see photo). These units are loved but not needed and I hope they will be useful and cool to the new owner.

The buttons and faders work like new and noise floor is within new specification. C/V and gate outs on DSX tested with an Oberheim Xpander and function perfectly. These should be a blast for a collector or modular synth owner or anyone who loves the feel of these units and these will complete the OB-Xa or OB-8 system perfectly."

"This is a real collector’s item.

The synth itself is quite rare and really great. 8 analog voices polyphony and capable of creating big layers. Classic Oberheim sounds and all the good things that go with that if this is what you’re looking for.

But this particular unit is signed and autographed by Tom Oberheim himself. He would never sign something that is not created by him (models like Matrix 1000 etc) even if it was carrying his name. All the Oberheim fans know that. And this makes the big difference

The synth is in really good condition. Everything works as it should.
The only flaw is that the front panel is a little bit uneven because of the long time it was hang on the studio rack so one side‘s buttons are a bit deeper than they were out of the factory.
But all buttons work PERFECTLY well, along with everything else on the synth. Screen, jacks, ports, power supply etc.

The buyer will also get a very rare NRPN list for real time parameter change - all parameters- provided by the Oberheim - Marion Systems engineers long time ago.
There is also a Bcr 2000 editor preset (bc manager) for it, if needed, and the sysex parameter chsnge list. Sysex don’t work well, so NRPN are prefered (i can advice on probable solution i haven’t tried)."

"Franklin Eventoff, an American tinkerer and musician invented the force sensing resistor in 1977. This allowed for touch control of voltage, which he used to create instruments. It found first commercial musical use in the Mattel Musical Thing, a cheap toy synth. Frustrated with the experience, Eventoff went on to create the much more refined Sonica. The Sonica is a lovingly crafted boutique instrument with an oscillator by famed Serge Tcherepnin, the creator of the Serge synthesizer. Only about 650 where made, and they are collector's items. The technology of the force sensing resistor proved hugely successful and lives on in cars, robotics and instruments like the AKAI MPC and the Otamatone.

"Released during the era of the Minimoog and ARP Odyssey, Octave's The Cat is a classic analog synthesizer whose design closely resembles the ARP Odyssey, leading to legal action from ARP in the late 1970s. This monophonic/duophonic synthesizer features two oscillators capable of square and sawtooth waveforms, with VCO 1 also offering a triangle waveform. Each waveform can be played simultaneously and mixed, with additional sub-octave oscillators on each VCO for creating rich and interesting sounds.

The keyboard can switch between 2-voice (poly) and 1-voice (mono) modes. In mono mode, the two oscillators can be stacked for a rich mono-bass or mono-lead synth sound. Poly mode splits the oscillators into separate voices, allowing for slightly more complex melodies with overlapping notes or basic pads. The sub-oscillator plays an octave below the actual note, adding warmth and depth to your sounds.

The Cat has been used by artists such as The Dust Brothers, Chemical Brothers, Devo, Rod Argent, David Bedford, Lyn Berger, Dave Greenslade, OMD, Loaded, and Mixmaster Morris. This particular unit features an additional, unlabeled knob next to the pitch slider, which controls the modulation intensity on the VCO. When turned to its maximum value, it creates a "pulse-like" effect, producing an extreme pump sound wave. This unique modification enhances the synth's versatility and character.

The synthesizer is in very good condition, fully functional, and includes the bottom panel, which was removed only for photographing the circuitry and showcasing the clean internal workings. The only real sign of wear is the power cable is missing the grounding prong. Complete with the original manual, this vintage Cat synthesizer is a rare find for any enthusiast or collector."

"This is an amazing Roland 16 voice Polyphonic Analog DCO Synthesizer that is in excellent condition. I am the second owner, the first owner was just a collector and kept it in her apartment then sold it to me in 2021. In 2021 I had all the tact switches replaced because they all fail on these keyboards. I also installed the (look it up) Vecoven 3 Chip set (Rom A, B&C) which upgrades the entire operating system and increases the onboard patch storage to the equivalent of 32 cartridges ! and adds an Arpeggiator.. Also included synth comes loaded up with the two original Roland factory sound banks, and 9 more banks (cartridges) of sound patches from super-jx.com database and a patch list! Also included the Retroactive PG-800 MINI programmer. I take great care of all my synths and this one is still a beauty. Only the aftertouch strip was not replaced so there is no aftertouch. Everything else works plays and sounds like new. 2 upper keys have slight scratch on them. Do the research and realize what you are about to buy, a powerhouse Poly Synth with upgraded parts, operating system, increased memory, and a Programmer."
