KORG MS03
images via this auction"This unit produces VCO CV (control voltage) signals and trigger (gate) signals so that you can use an electric guitar, microphone, or other transducer output (from an acoustic instrument, for example) to "play" a synthesizer like a KORG MS-10 for example.... A variety of remote control input jacks let you use foot switches for more freedom and flexibility during live performance. With this amazing unit you can instantly put together your own guitar synthesizer, vocal synthesizer, etc., by simple connection with any synthesizer equipped with VCO CV IN and TRIGGER (Gate) IN input jacks."
KORG MS02
images via this auction"The Korg Interface MS-02 is designed for the purpose of connecting Korg MS-Series synthesizers with other synthesizers available throughout the world. This sophisticated signal processor greatly enhances the performance possibilities of the MS-Series. Among presently available music synthesizers, there are two different types of control system used for the VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) and EG (envelope generator). One of these systems is used by Korg and Yamaha; the other is employed by every other synthesizer manufacturer. The Korg MS-02 provides you with a way to change the control signals of one system into the control signals used in the other system. In this way, it acts as an interface so that any two synthesizers can be used together, provided that the synthesizers are equipped with the conventional input and output jacks for control voltage and trigger or gate signals."
KORG X-911 vintage analog guitar synthesizer
images via this auction"it is a great instrument that can expand with many and many features the KORG MS series system. the Korg X-911 is as easy to use as any effects device, yet will produce extremely complex sonic variations. No special guitar pickup is required. Merely patch your guitar, microphone, or other instrument into the X-911 and play one note at a time. Simple pushbuttons on the front panel let you choose five different instrumental sounds including bass, trumpet, and flute, along with FIVE synthesizer waveforms which can be varied freely to get a wide variety of different effects. Any or all of these may be mixed together to produce 2047 different tone color combinations. Also, you can use a foot switch to instantly raise or lower the X-911's pitch an octave above or below the guitar pitch. Or you can play in unison with yourself with two lead lines a third or fifth apart. Footswitches can also be used for instant witching on or off of such effects as portamento and hold. There are even rear panel jacks for interfacing with other synthesizers such as the compact Korg MS-series to add even greater sound synthesis capability. Working voltage: 220 / 240 volts"

Milton Analog Sequencer 6x16 Vintage Style CV/Pulse Kit
via this auction
"Peter Grenader’s Milton Sequencer
aka Cyndustries Milton Sequencer
aka Plan B Model 21 Sequencer
For a while Cynthia Webster for Cyndustries Modular Synthesizers company was making these but her module is no longer available. Currently similar (but inferior) pre-configured sequencers are available from Peter's Plan B company in the Module 21 series. Winning this auction you will get your Cynthia/Plan B sequencer you’ve been wanting; and you can configure the functionally well beyond anything offered commercially! This is your chance to get a nearly full parts kit for all 6 bank boards and you can get started right away!
Included in this auction
>>>> 1 Milton Engine Board…this is mostly populated. Has “Cynthia CYN10” and “PCB by Ken Stone “screened on it.
>>>> 6 Milton Bank Boards…one board is mostly populated, the remaining 5 are not populated. (note that in the picture, one pack of 3 boards is opened and each is displayed while the other pack of 3 is still sealed--under the Main Engine PCB).
>>>> 1 Milton 2-sided Original Schematic and electronic documentation. I will provide this hard-copy 11x17 inch 2-sided schematic along with all other electronic documentation I have available on a CDr. Also I have a printed copy of the manual dated June 2003.
>>>> Various Parts to finish the project. Parts include resistors, capacitors, diodes, ICs, transistors, LEDs, switches, pots, knobs (and faceplate mounting washers and nuts; knobs have a "soft" feel--same as Blacet uses; I have blue and gray knobs included!), professionally made ribbon cables connectors (that are used to connect the boards) and various other required parts. There are a few parts that ARE NOT INCLUDED—the stage gate output jacks (because I hadn’t decided banana or 1/8" mini-jack) and power supply (you have to provide 12-15V DC power).
Sequencer Configuration Choices
I was going for the fully-loaded setup. Of course, you can choose your own configuration and if less than mine you will have some spare parts.
My configuration was going to be:
6x 16 step CV banks
6x 16 step Programmable Pulse Bus
6x 16 step Stage Pulse Outs (output jacks not included)
1x 16 LEDs
Now that is one heck of an amazing analog sequencer! I was going to use the pulse outs to trigger drum sounds but you can use them for whatever you wish." via bug.out

"The VCOs for my new project are built, now the filters have to be developed and built. So why not take a first snapshot of the Moog style LPF sound, while it's still on the breadboard?
The light delay impression comes from the two audio tracks not being perfectly synchronized - iMovie didn't give better results here.
Schematics for the VCO are on my website, those for the VCF follow after build and test.

"Continuum performance by Randy Kerber, music by John WilliamsRandy Kerber writes: As far as the synths used with the Continuum, I used a Reaktor 5 ensemble called Steampipe 2, and I also used a simple modular CV synth made by Analogue System. Using the continuum in mono mode alone, the instrument is so wonderfully expressive that I was very happy to have it in my arsenal. In respect to timbres used with the continuum: A string cluster(polyphony made possible by a Pitch Shifter plug-in from Logic 8)which started from very, very soft and crescendoed to fortissimo. A low pad with modulated filter cutoff(Y-axis). A filtered sawtooth wave in heavy reverb and multiple delays doubling woodwinds at times and french horns in one instance.
I'm very excited about working more with Reaktor. I am quite encouraged by the myriad of possibilities, both
from the program and certainly from the continuum.
I look forward to more music with your fabulous controller." You can find the audio here.

Korg MS-20 doing a disco beat
YouTube via zioguido
"My MS-20 is playing a disco beat by itself! This is an endless loop created by retriggering the notes using the MG pulse output.
The connections on the patch panel are as follows:
1) MG sqr out to TRIG IN (the jack I'm inserting and removing to start/stop playback)
2) WHITE NOISE to VCA IN
3) VCA OUT to ESP IN with low-cut and hi-cut filters all the way up
4) ESP band-pass out to EXT SIG. IN
The white noise fed into the ESP and then into the EXT.IN does the hi-hat, while the EG2 with a rapid decay does the bassdrum using the hi-pass filter and the EG1 with the delay time set to 1 does the octave jump on the bass. You can see the other settings in the video.
Watch your speakers! This is gonna be loud!"

Build a Transistorized Theremin by Bob Moog
via this auction"Increasingly hard to find, this nearly half-century-old issue of Electronics World contains a fascinating how-to on building that special effects staple of scores of classic sci-fi flicks, the theremin, by none other than electronic music pioneer Robert Moog. The feature article contains a complete schematic and parts list, as well as chassis layout and photos of the completed unit. There are even tips on how to play the ethereal instrument. You get the entire original 1961 magazine, not a couple photocopied pages like you find elsewhere on Ebay.
Also in this issue is a homebrew stereo balancer using 6FG6 magic eye tubes and a look at beam power tubes in VHF oscillators, plus an article on early computer logic circuits, both vacuum tube and transistor-based. Apart from some minor cover wear, the magazine is in excellent condition."

"This little beast is far from your average FM synthesizer. Not only is it an eight-Operator variant, as opposed to the six- and four-Operator FM of the DX/TX lines, but it also features a new technology called Formant Shaping Synthesis. Formants are the spectral patterns making up the sounds of human speech. This allows for the creation of vocal like timbres but can also be applied in many different ways to create incredibly unique sounds that you won't find on any other synths."

White JD-800 synth - Gandalf

"Hello...
Thought y'all would get a kick out of a Flickr set from today's adventure... took the afternoon to re-assemble my trusty, 16-year-old Roland JD-800 using newly customized white body work. The board was originally grey.... "Gandalf the Grey. Yes, that was my name. Now, I'm Gandalf the White."
flickr set
Only a couple of you will know what a Roland SH-101 is, but it's a legendary '80s synth with a lot of similar hardware (sliders, etc.) to the JD. Gandalf was designed to look like a white version of that model. The design, paint, and screen work were all painstakingly done by Jeff at CustomSynth..... This bloke does truly amazing, magical things to synths. If you have any interest at all too see similar cool creations, check out his gallery.
Anyway, the JD is assembled, home, and working & looking perfectly... ready to "rokk out..."

"The apparently only for the American market certain SPLIT-EIGHT is roughly coincide with the SIX-TRAK published, but offered eight votes. The votes structure is that of the comparable SIX-TRAK, also an oscillator per vote. However, it is possible for all 64 presets split and layer sounds to use as much fettere sounds feasible to make. During the multi-Trak 10 and the Six-Trak only 2 of them are available. Also it has the well-known by SCI Poly modulation. The device was quite clear only in very small quantities and was produced by me so far only once in Germany discovered a second job. Worldwide, I have no SPLIT-EIGHT keyboard with inverted. Pro voice has a VCO, a 24 dB / Oct. Low pass filter, a VCA and 2 ADSR envelopes the filter and the VCA available. All analogue. In addition, the SPLIT-EIGHT one of the LFO waveforms triangle and rectangle reproduced. The exhibition was SPLIT-EIGHT apparently only at NAMM Show 1985 in New Orleans.
