MOOG Taurus

images via this auction

"Moog Taurus 1 (1976)
Bass Pedal Analogue Synthesizer.
This one is dated 3/18/76 according to the inspection tag inside. Serial number is 1572."

Octavius Squeezer

"analog bass synth

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend us your rears, for the arrival of Octavius Squeezer is nigh! Available starting mid-2008, Octavius Squeezer is the only analog bass pedal you need. Designed specifically for bass guitar, Octavius Squeezer has true analog reconfigurable signal path technology, true bypass switching and a comprehensive array of analog synth, octaver, fuzz, envelope filter and other effects driven by a convenient digital preset system. With all this plus tuner and metronome in a size that fits in your gig bag, this is one pedal you simply can't afford to be without! Listen to it now!

Octavius Squeezer includes a dedicated filter circuit bred in our Agent 00Funk and Agent 00Funk Mark II envelope filters. It also includes the fuzz circuit from our Brown Dog gated bass fuzz. A digital pitch tracking stage tracks the notes you play right down to the bottom of your instrument's range and drives an analog synthesizer which can produce various waveforms at either the same pitch as your input, one octave down, one octave up or two octaves up. All of this can be patched, mixed and configured in a variety of ways to give an enormous array of available effects.

Use the effect control to switch between the 96 user-editable presets that can be stored in the Octavius Squeezer's onboard memory. Adjust any of the presets on-the-fly with a twist of the param knob. See the current effect and parameter settings clearly displayed on Octavius Squeezer's backlit LCD. Use the two user-assignable footswitches to bypass, tap tempo and switch effects on the fly. Save and load additional presets to SD card (like the one in your digital camera) using the onboard card reader, and use it to upgrade Octavius's firmware as new versions become available." Doepfer Drums

Doepfer Drums from Jyoti Mishra on Vimeo.

"This is a patch I created using my new Doepfer modular synthesizer.

Basically, the LFO (A143-3) I'm tweaking goes into the clock divider (A160) and clock sequencer(A161), giving me the gates to trig the quad ADSR (A143-2). I'm using three filters, one set to resonate (making the tinkly sound) and another resonating swept very low for the kick. The source is white noise.

Hope you like it!

(By the way, although the Doepfer is going through a Nanoverb, it's bypassed. The reverb you hear is the A199 Doepfer Spring Reverb.)"

Great Improvements of the Serge Triple Osc M-odule

via Bakis:

"via Rex Probe himself:
'about the new NTO & PCOs:

The VC FM index on the NTO is now linear with no base line pitch shift

The SYNC inputs work much better, with the points of tuning between the master & slave optimized. The sync 'grab' is now much 'deeper' into the harmonics.

The portamento section of the NTO is much smoother with lower harmonic distortion and better linearity.

Because of many improvements to the circuit associated with the SINE output, the sonic purity is greatly improved and with it the swept sine into the FM inputs
sounds great!

All the waveform outs on both the NTO & PCO have much improved sonic characters. Lower harmonic distortion, lower intermodulation distortion, lower phase noise, improved bandwidth linearity and improved jitter -- all without compromising their analog (phat) tonal richness!'"

Min/Max Melody II

YouTube via boobtube356
"Same patch as before, except now the A-111 output paths are separated. The min part A-111 is now feeding a square wave to the Doepfer A-196 PLL, and the A-111 pulse width is being sine modulated in time with the notes. The PLL output is going to the Cwejman MMF-1 (now in dual-peak bandpass mode). The max A-111 is now feeding the Cwejman VCEQ-3 and then on to the Doepfer A-121 (low pass). The PLL gives the bass line its crazy character, as it has been tuned so that it can't keep up with the square wave pitch changes. Narrowing the pulse widths to zero in the meantime is not helping either."

My digital camera wouldn't take its picture for some reason - it shows up as a washed out white colour - the k800i did a better job but still doesn't show up how rich and contrasty it is. AudioCubes manuals now available in multiple languages

"Since the introduction of AudioCubes we’ve had a few requests from users in various countries in Europe and Asia for translations of the manuals for AudioCubes.

We decided to kick off the translation of manuals by offering Italian, Spanish, Japanese, and German versions. We keep the manuals in a wiki, which offers excellent support for writing documentation and maintaining it across many languages (wikipedia.org is an excellent example of this).

If you live in a country with a language not yet supported by us, feel free to email us and let us know,
so we can take your request into account on the next update of the manuals. If you would like to do a translation of a manual into a new language, send us an email, we’ll support your effort and make
sure to reward you for your hard work."

You can find the links and more on the Percussa AudioCubes blog.

New AudioCubes Soundpack, Manuals wiki, Blog and Shop

"Urbano Lounge, AudioCubes sound pack for Reason

Percussa AudioCubes Soundpack 002 Urbano Lounge is the second sound pack from Percussa, an inspiring collection of mid tempo lounging loops, breaks and samples to help you on your way towards cube success!

The pack contains over 140Mb of loop content recorded and produced exclusively for Percussa Audio Cubes by Cuesounds (UK). Although the pack was designed to work with Propellerheads Reason 4, the samples can be used with other software too.

Included are three main folders, two of which contain sampled loops, and one containing four combinator tools. The sampled loops are included in both WAV and RX2 file format. The included combinator patches were designed to use the RX2 format. The sampled loops have been created around a general lounge and hip hop theme. Some of the sounds included are not typically representative of this genre, however help balance an eclectic palette of sounds that can be used in a variety of styles.

AudioCubes SP02 Urbano Lounge Combinator Tools This pack has been designed to give the AudioCubes enthusiast more advanced content than typically included with software releases. The combinator patches included are by no means the only control possibilities within the Reason environment, but help highlight the power of the combinator device and the AudioCubes.

Note that you don't need AudioCubes or Reason to use the audio samples in this sound pack. We provide multiple formats, such as WAV and REX2, which can be used with most software samplers or sequencers. You can visit our online shop to hear a demo track made with this sound pack. You can also download a selection of loops from the pack for free!

Theremin MIDI Control w/ Analogue Systems modular

YouTube via bigcitymusic
"The Analogue Systems rs300 CV/MIDI eurorack module allows you to take a control voltage and convert it into virtually any kind of MIDI message.

In this case we're using the Analogue Systems rs35 External Processor module to convert the Moog Cherry Etherwave theremin audio into a pitch control voltage. That control voltage in turn is controlling the pitch bend of the Dave Smith Prophet '08 keyboard. By setting the pitch bend range on the DSI you can decide the range of the theremin's control. The rs300 module can actually control multiple MIDI parameters at one time. For recording synthesists the rs300 can be an invaluable tool for recreating complicated modular patches and sequences."

Flame Synth Pedal Fest

YouTube via RothHandle
"Today was the last day of recording dor the Rhys Marsh track the afterglow. This song was really great to record as it was very dynamic and had a lot of little arrangement parts that I could colour and work with.

Rhys Marsh is a terribly talented british artist who has moved to Norway and we have been working together on a couple of tracks for his previous album that should be out sometime early this fall.

The Idea was of course that I would record some drums and then get on with it but it didn't out that easy. I ended up recording a lot of stuff, percussion, Orchestrons, Mellotrons and in the end I actually got the drums right even though it took a while.

This film is of me recording a sort of noise collage using the fame synth, the pitch pirate, the moogerfooger analog delay a roland spring reverb and a boss loop station. This is then treated through a zvex seek wah.

This little snippet of film was recorded with my mobile phone at my studio in Sundbyberg. If you are curious about the Roth Händle studio and the music that is recorded there or maybe you want to find out more about the instruments...well I suggest you go by www.roth-handle.nu It hasn't been updated for a while but there should be some interesting bits and pieces."

Super Mario Bros. on the Theremin!

YouTube via ooo6
"The Super Mario Bros. theme from the old NES, without a doubt the most memorable video game theme song in the history of video games, played on the theremin.

I made this video mainly because I wanted to say "hi, i'm still here," but also to let everyone know I'm working on a new project and I'm in need of support in a big way. Please read my profile for more information.

In this video, I passed the theremin signal through the very awesome distortion plugin, iZotope Trash.

If you are new to the theremin, please learn about it. There is tons of info out there on the web. It's really a fascinating instrument and worth the time to check it out.

Long live Prof. Leon Theremin and Dr. Robert Moog!"

Recreating Baba O'Riley & Won't Get Fooled Again

YouTube via FailedMuso. Video response to this post on Failed Muso.
"A short clip on how the Alesis Fusion can easily recreate those classic keyboard riffs from two Who songs, "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again". Using nothing but internal sounds and VA synth engines, the powerful Mix mode, arpeggiator, filters and FX sections in the Fusion can easily recreate these intro's to two songs from The Who's seminal 1971 long player "Who's Next".

None of these Programs were sampled from the originals in any way whatsoever. All sounds come from the Fusion's own VA engine and a Hammond Program from Sound Designer's, Hollow Sun."

Eowave Persephone Analog Synthesizer

images via this auction

"I'll let a blurb from the eowave site do the explaining: The Persephone is a fingerboard analogue synthesizer with CV and MIDI in and out. At the first sight, the Persephone reminds of the first electronic fingerboard instruments developed in the 1920s. But beyond this vintage look, the Persephone allies sensors technology and digital controls to a pure analogue generation of sound. The Persephone musicality will be determined by the way it is played. The Persephone respects the traditional play of the first non-keyboard electronic instruments with the right hand controlling the pitch and the left hand controlling the velocity. The ribbon zone can allow all kinds of play. When scaled, the Persephone can be played like a regular keyboard. Though there are no fixed preset notes with the ribbon, keyboard players will easily find their way. Guitars and bass players will certainly play it like a chord instrument and get sounds that are closed to cello or violin, especially when using vibratos. Jazz players will enjoy slapping the Persephone's ribbon to get wonderful sonorities.

Movie music writers and fans of sci-fi effects will enjoy its bi-dimensional structure, which allows creating eerie sounds very easily. A new fingerboard synthesizer Just like any synthesizer, the Persephone offers a classical synthesis architecture with an oscillator section, a filter section, a modulation section and a LFO section. With its 100% analogue oscillator, the Persephone can generate notes with a range of 10 octaves. Its lower frequencies go from a deep and resonant cello tone to a nearly human voice.

On the highest pitches, it can reach very high frequencies. The oscillator waveform can be set between triangle and sawtooth for a more or less brilliant sound. The filter is a 12dB low-pass filter. Its ribbon control surface is pressure and position sensitive. While it requires the most advanced sensor technology and allows all kind of glissando a Theremin or les Ondes Martenot would allow. A scaling potentiometer allows scaling the Persephone's ribbon from 1, 2, 5 to 10 octaves. The expression key, controlled by an optic sensor, can transmit the slightest vibrations on the key with an accuracy the mechanical systems never had. All the controls are digital. The four play modes - A, B, C and D - offer different hierarchy of control between the pitch, the velocity, a filter modulation and a LFO.

Connections are located on the rear side of the front panel and are protected from dust and other source of deterioration by the Persephone suitcase top when not used. The Persephone like a CV/MIDI controller The Persephone has a CV out and a MIDI in/out. With its CV out, it can control any other analogue synthesizers and modular systems. With its MIDI in/out, it can also be used as a MIDI controller, what turns it into a powerful new kind of instrument. Technical Specifications Suitcase version or desktop version available Scale : a scaling potentiometer allows to scale the Persephone's ribbon from 1, 2, 5 to 10 octaves. Tune Finetune Brightness : two waveforms Wave : from sinus to triangle.

Please visit the official MonsterSynths webpage for more photos, sound clips, specifications and general info."
