Cherry 10x50 Matrix Switch for ARP 2500

This one in via an anonymous reader.

"This very rare item is New-Old-Stock (NOS) and is in dead mint, unused condition. This is the same series of matrix switches that were used in the ARP 2500 and were very pricey when they were still available.

The unit measures 15.5" (W) x 3.375" (H) x 1.5" (D)

Connections are made via spade terminals for the Vertical and edge connectors, on both ends, for the Horizontal.

All the contacts are very shiney and show no sign of oxidation (due to proper storage over the years)

This would make a perfect modulation/patching matrix for a modular synth system."

Artist Interview: Hank Shocklee (Bomb Squad)

YouTube via PropellerheadSW | October 13, 2010

"It's no exaggeration to say that were it not for Hank Shocklee, hip hop would probably sound entirely different. His early Bomb Squad production with Public Enemy didn't just break all the rules in rap music at the time... it rewrote them, forever changing the trajectory of the still-young cultural movement. To this day, Shocklee's production stands alone in its identifiable sound. We spoke with him recently to find out how he learned about Reason and what caused him to adopt it as his 'weapon of choice' for beat production."

Waldorf Pulse with Original Box

via this auction
"This is fine full fledged mono synthesizer with 3 oscillators, which is great, especially having two of them with Variable Pulse Width. You get an ADSR Filter Envelope and an ADSR Amplitude Envelope. In addition there's also a Voltage Controlled Filter which can also be modulated by one of 15 sources. Which brings us to the Modulation Section makes for a ton of possibilities that early monophonic hardwired synths didn't offer. Essentially you can modulate 15 destinations, from 15 sources, so that's a lot of power to modify the waveforms going through this modulation matrix. The whole editing system is a 6 line matrix, with a knob for each parameter, which is a lot easier to deal with than thumbing through a whole bunch of pages on a fully digital synth. With two LFO's, a Mixer, a Noise source, Pitch Mod, Portamento, and Stereo Panning, there's even more to work with. You've got all the tools in this synth to work with any kind of music you want to play, that is, if you know how to work it, and know what kind of sounds you're looking for. The manual is well written and serves as a very good minimal guide as to how to use this instrument. I recommend reading it more than once, because while being brief, it makes points that are huge in terms of understanding the nature of this particular synth. Here's one particular point, your Oscillator mix volume controls really affect how dramatic your filter will respond, but there's more to it than that, because your individual Oscillator volumes and relative volumes will really affect the overall tone you're getting. This is the kind of difference in sound that can be easily overlooked, thus making for minimized understanding what the instrument can sound like. I also have the box, and the Power Supply and Manual will be packed in there, that is, before it is then packed into another box, so that it is double boxed for travel. This synth is great for anyone who loves to experiment and journey into the world of sound, and perhaps less great for someone who is interested in getting only the specific sounds being sort after."

Sound Lab Analog Synthesizer MFOS Semi Modular

via these auctions. videos by laymamusic in the auctions captured here.

"This SoundLab is AC Powered and includes an AC adapter. Saves a bit of money and waste by not going through the batteries.

The SoundLab Synthesizer is a 100% analog 2 oscillator synth with mixer, filter (low pass/bandpass),LFO, AR Generator, VCA and volume/power knob. Also has audio input for processing external audio. SoundLab can be used alone or by the CV (1 volt per octave) and Gate inputs.

Measures 10x6x4 (in the videos my hands are close to the cam so it makes the SoundLab appear smaller than it really is)

Metal film resistors and high quality components used through out. Large Alpha 24mm pots for a nice smooth turning action. Circuit Board is mounted to case via aluminum stand-offs."

Catgirl Synth CGS37 CV Cluster

via this auction

"Assembled by Free State Custom Electronics

Here is a breif description of how this module works from Ken Stone's incredible Catgirl Synth Website:

"The CV cluster is an unusual kind of mixer. It takes two input voltages - a base control voltage, and a modulating control voltage, and creates the sum and differences of them. These different voltages are the base voltage offset in a positive direction by the modulating voltage and the base voltage offset in a negative direction by the modulating voltage. A series of equal taps between these two points results in outputs that always maintain the base control voltage at its full amplitude, mixed with a differing amount of the modulating voltage. The center output has equal amounts of positive and negative modulation canceling each other out, and thus behaves as a
straight-through connection for the base input.

Some ideas on how to use this module:

Feed your 1/v octave input into the base input, and an envelope generator, LFO, sequencer etc. into the modulation input. Connect the outputs, starting with the center unmodulated output, and working both up and down, to a series of VCOs. While the modulation input remains at zero, all of the VCOs will track. As the modulation voltage increases, the VCOs connected to modulated outputs will shift in frequency away from the base, at an amount proportional to its position from the center output. For example, a small modulation voltage will de-tune the oscillators slightly, fattening the sound. A modulation CV of 5 volts will set each output 1 volt apart, setting the oscillators an octave apart.

An envelope generator connected to the modulation input creates in interesting effect.

It of course can be used with audio frequency signals too, and may prove interesting when driving a cluster of wave multipliers or similar. Two audio signals fed to it could produce interesting stereo effects.

Note: The sum and differences produced by this module are voltage differences, NOT frequency differences. It is NOT a ring modulator."
