"Me having a mess-about on my three machines. Live jam, making it up as I go along.

Monomachine providing 3 synth sounds, Machinedrum doing the beats and the Octatrack resampling.

Only using one track from the 8T, 3 from the MnM and 4 from the MD.

It is more of a "my first vid" than anything special but comments welcome, better stuff to come."

"RARE vintage analog Multivox RHYTHM ACE drum machine model FR6M. There were two versions of this drum machine. One was considered a studio/home model and was in a finished wood cabinet (with no handle on top), and the other was the portable/gigging model, housed in a black Tolex-covered wood cabinet (with a handle mounted on top). This is the latter model, which I personally prefer and believe to be more rare (as I have seen far fewer of them)!

According to ads I've seen (some for sale on eBay actually!), I'm fairly certain that this is a pre-1970 model. Multivox was a rather mysterious American company that "borrowed" many of Roland's (a Japanese company) early synthesizers, drum machines, and other pro audio gear. Interestingly enough, this model (FR6M) is almost identical to the Roland TR 66, save for a few preset names/rhythms and a few of the faceplate graphics. Look up a Roland TR66 online- you'll see the striking resemblance!!! However, I cannot tell you whether this unit was manufactured in the USA or Japan. As far as I know, no one is certain whether Multivox simply rebadged Japanese Roland-made gear (in this case, the Roland TR66), or whether they copied the designs and schematics and manufactured them in the US..."

"A very powerful synthesizer module, classy and thoroughly professional. This is the rack version of the VZ-1 iPD synthesizer. Casio perfected the PD synthesis found in the CZ series, and the result offers impressive sounds. The character is very aggressive, digital, industrial, and powerful - similar to Yamaha's FM synthesis, but with a different, more aggressive character. Starting from a simple, pure sine wave (or different waveform), you can build very complex sounds. The on-board waveforms are among the purest I've ever heard on a synth. Very good cosmetic and working order. Comes with AC cord and RC-100 ROM card and Operation Manual."

Self Erecting Structures by Atomic Shadow

via Atomic Shadow
"After I decided to retire the man in the lab coat it dawned on me that I had made quite a few videos featuring that personae. Why not compile an album from those tracks and make them all available to commemorate the end of an era? So here is the result. All of the videos are viewable at my Vimeo site.

Tracks 8 and 9 were demos of Hollow Sun's Cognopshere instrument for Kontakt and Wolfgang Palm's PPG WaveGenerator app for iOS respectively.

Track 13 is one that was done for another project and was lost while backing up to an external drive. It recently resurfaced while I was looking for something else. I took this as a sign and included it here.

This is a 'pay what you want" download and I have several empty spots in the racks of my Command Center that are painfully aggravating my OCD so please consider helping out with a purchase. Or buying some of these raw sounds for your own use at my Pond 5 site.

You can subscribe to my blog at www.atomicshadow.com where I post on the rare occasion that I have anything new or interesting to report.

"Ode to the 2600" song featuring ARP 2600 (x2) and Analogue Solutions Oberkorn (x2)

Published on Nov 4, 2012 by rezfilter

"Here's a demo song featuring a soundscape entirely from the ARP 2600 (x 2)! All sounds, fx and drum patterns in the track were sequenced exclusively via the Oberkorn MK3 by Analogue Solutions.

Every synth line was then recorded into Logic and layered to create the finished track you hear in the video. The only reverb used was the spring reverb from the 2600, and only on select sounds.

The 2600 interfaces nicely with the Oberkorn and allows for the type of filter sweeps, steps and patterns you cannot achieve via the standard keyboard (or simple CV) alone.

Another Sneak Peek - New Synth Coming from Cynosure48?

Published on Nov 4, 2012 by Cynosure48

Here is another sneak peek of sounds from the project I am working on. I added some reverb, but otherwise all the sides are from the synth, which was receiving a 3 note loop from Ableton Live. Everything you hear is just three long notes, one after the other. Arppegios were done within the synth.

Would you like to own a synth that can produce sounds like this?

"oberkorn is a fully fledged professional analogue sequencer providing plenty of control outputs and inputs and with some unique creative features never before seen. whilst most new analogue sequencers only offer a limiting 8 steps, the oberkorn offers the all important 16 steps. it is a multi-channel true analogue sequencer with some remarkable features. below are a list of main features:

- 3 separate control voltage channels. each has a range control.
- 2 separate gate channels. either can be on or off, they can be both on together too.
- the gates can be clocked using internal clock, external clock or use a special legato mode.
- nice bright blue leds
- midi to clock, trigger and step number converter
- transpose inputs
- two channels have glide (portamento)
- cv control of clock speed.
- capability of changing step sequence to anything you want other than the standard 1 to 16.
- can be reset to step 16, which is very important for synching with other gear.
- this sequencer will work with a hz/v synth, but works best with the more common v/oct."

Jordan Passmore Italo demo of Maschine, Nord Lead 3, U-Know 007.

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
Published on Oct 16, 2012 by Jordan Passmore

"Here is a demo of my more mobile/live setup. This demo includes a lot of stuff; a Clavia Nord Lead 3 rack doing the bass, Maschine MK1 disguised as a LinnDrum and Sonic Core's U-Know 007 doing the Juno 106-ish chords. Everything is mixed inside of Ableton Live. I am using Native Instrument's Passive EQ on the main bus, Enhanced EQ on each channel and the Vari-Comp also on the main.

The Nord Lead 3 is a new piece of kit of mine and I love it. People say it sounds too clean or sterile but, I don't think that is always a bad thing. It's hybrid FM/Subtractive sound engine lends itself well to sharp basslines, bell-like tones and evolving pads. The Maschine is loaded full of samples I took of my LinnDrum. I feel like Maschine is one of the best new tools for electronic musicians that has come around in a long, long time. It is very easy to jam on and is the perfect tool for live situations. I will be making more demos of Maschine for sure. U-Know 007 is a relatively old plug-in for the Sonic Core (formerly Creamware) Scope DSP system. Under most circumstances it seems to nail the 106's sound pretty well and as a bonus it is certainly more flexible.

The MIDI controllers are the Alesis Q25 and the Korg nanoKey2."

Jan Hammer - Crockett's Theme Performed Live by Kebu

Jan Hammer - Crockett's Theme (performed live by Kebu @ Dynamo, Turku, 5.5.2012)

"I always liked this tune and was inspired when I heard Michael Cassette's version. So for my live set I made an arrangement that was influenced by both versions, but put my own twist on it. The tune ended my show in Dynamo, Turku, where this video was recorded. Unfortunately, I only had three camcorders going and the heavy bass drum in the club made the cameras vibrate with each beat. But the feeling was so high in the club that I definitely wanted to upload this particular take!

The song was performed using only analog synthesizers, either played live or sequenced. The performance was recorded line in to one of the cameras. The ambience in the club was recorded using the built-in microphones on two of the remaining cameras and mixed together with the line signal.

Equipment used in this song: Korg Polysix, Poly 61, Mono/Poly, Micro-preset M500; Roland TR-808, Jomox AirBase99, Juno 60, Alpha Juno 1&2; Touched-by-sound DRM1, Oberheim Matrix 6R, Yamaha RM1x (only for MIDI sequencing), Behringer DDX3216, Lexicon MPX500, as well as a midi patchbay and additional preamps for my mixer. Cameras: Canon HF100 (x2) and HF200.

A big thank you to the amazing audience in Turku and to Turku Synth Club for arranging the gig!"
