"Brand New Buchla type QUAD LOW PASS GATE All-Analog Synthesizer Module in MOTM Format!

IN-STOCK! FIRST TIME WE'VE OFFERED THESE IN MOTM!

Standard MOTM type 4-Pin Power Cable and Mounting Screws Included

Add an Organic Quality to Your Sound!
In the beginning there was Light, and the Vactrol opto-coupler was born. (Well, in the early 1960's anyway)!

In these days of quantum-level high-speed electronics it might be hard to imagine why we would actually want to use such sluggish CroMagnon components as the lowly Vactrol, (essentially a photocell and a light bulb)...

Harnessing these into an alchemy of music, fire, and light was the genius of Don Buchla who thought to exploit the quirks or so-called flaws of these components for their musical capabilities instead!

Nothing can match the buttery soft response this circuit evokes when commanded "to dance!" by an impatient pulse or envelope.

That unique flitty, percussive, Subotnick trademark type sound can be realized with these gems because they are based on the original Buchla 292 circuitry. There are four on this panel, each with a switch to determine if there will be additional Low Pass coloring to the signal as it passes.

Often a signal is best processed through two or more of the module's channels in series, and always a delight when used in concert with the Modcan 08A Processor's preamp and envelope follower on external inputs.

Below are four .wav file samples featuring the Cynthia/Buchla Lowpass Gate prototype, demonstrated by Peter Grenader using a single patch in which only the Gate's modes are changed. The attack time of the envelope is increased midway through each to give an idea of the full dynamic effect of this instrument.

"The Low Pass Gates are something that I had no idea what I was buying when I ordered them. Boy am I glad I did! That sound is fantastic, so organic - slippery, rubbery textures - very cool indeed!!"

GI20Editor - Roland GI-20 GK-MIDI Guitar Interface Editor

Via the developer, Amedeo Farello: "I have just completed version 2.1 of GI20Editor, a software editor for the Roland GI-20 GK-MIDI guitar interface.

Besides being the only alternative to programming the device through a knob, a two digit display and a few buttons, GI20Editor can greatly enhance the guitar/synthesizer connection experienced through the GI-20.

New in version 2.1 is the possibility for each patch to send up to 8 user defined MIDI Control Change messages for each string/channel to the 'synthesizer output' device.

GI20Editor is available now in the Mac App Store at $13.99." [Version 1.5 for Windows is available here]

Description from the App Store:

"Korg NanoPad Sequencer
---
A simple, proof-of-concept sequencer that can be applied to a range of drum pad controller models.

8 pads are used for sequencing.

4 pads are used for selecting between four different sequences, running simultaneously at different related tempo subdivisions.

The XY pad is used to store MIDI CC data for each step for each sequence, and as thus can be used to automate a range of parameters, increasing the available expression for such a setup.

The Pyramid Synthesisers

"Another collaboration with Pete Fowler - two pyramid-shaped analogue synthesisers with hand painted casings.

They began as part of an animated music video that Pete made for The Horrors, and then afterwards Richard Russell (XL Recordings) decided to commission a real life version. It was decided to make two synths in the end, one for Richard and one for The Horrors to use. They each have a catalog number, "XLRD001 001" and "XLRD001 002".

The whole project was massive fun from beginning to end - everyone involved was really nice, complete artistic freedom was given, lots of enthusiasm and encouragement from every direction! Once they were finished, Nathan Pask took these great photos

Each synth contains a Sound Lab mark II, built from a circuit board sold by Music From Outer Space."

Obtruta MK1 Steampunk Synth with Crystal LEDs

video at the auction and previously posted here.

"Obtruta stands for: One Button To Rule Them All.
This device is an analogue synthesizer and sound machine with simplified controls, however the complexity of the sounds it can synthesize still remain vast.
It is constructed from old and recycled parts- oak, mahogany, copper, brass, glass and bakelite.

The sound synthesis circuitry is of my own design, the modules it consist of are:
Two VCOs
Two Envelope generators (AHR and AR / Attack-Hold-Release and Attack-Release)
VCF (low pass with resonance and super-overload-resonance)
Modulator / Weird LFO
Internal signal heterodyner
Light sensor control voltage (CV) level controls

Explanation of operation:

The knife switch is the main power switch. When the button is pressed it activates both the envelopes and the modulator. One envelope controls both the VCOs and the second envelope controls the VCF, the far left switch mixes the modulator with either the VCO envelope or the VCF envelope control voltage. The modulator only cycles when the button is pressed and the frequency of VCO2 is lower than VCO1. Additionally the modulator speed is controlled by the frequency of the two VCOs so strange feedback loops happen when it is directed back to the VCOs.
The level of control voltage applied to the VCOs and VCF is controlled by the light sensors; The center light sensor is for VCO2, VCO1 via the left sensor and the VCF via the right sensor.

The center switch and right switch change the envelope shapes between HR and AHR, the two dials on the front control both attack and release time for each envelope.
The round dial with an arrow controls the filter resonance and can also be driven into super-overload-resonance when turned beyond the half way point.
The meter indicates the modulator level and frequency, the glowing crystals and glass tube show the control voltage level of both the envelopes and modulator, depending to which module it is directed.

Lights can be used as control elements for the light sensors however be aware that they can introduce mains hum through the very light beam itself if they are powered by AC mains electricity! This means that you could modulate the VCF or VCO at audio frequencies using a light source controlled by an audio signal. Modulation by using flashy lights has not yet been explored, I implore you to experiment! The sonic possibilities are vast and unknown!

The output socket can be found behind the small door in the back of the device, closed by a copper latch. The socket is a little bit stiff but I have had no problems using it, it accepts a mono quarter inch jack plug."
