Tek6 👾 (Roland TR-6S, J-6, JU-06A + Pill Pedal // Erica Synths DB-01 // Arturia Keystep Pro)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"For the 94th 2-Minute video (actually it will rather be "2 x 2-Minute" 😉), we are going for a an uplifting "melodic techno" jam, featuring the Roland JU-06A (synth chords), J-6 (synth chords), TR-6S (drums) ; Erica Synths DB-01 (Bass) ; Arturia Keystep Pro for the sequencing and live transposing parts!

The jams begins with the JU-06A playing a pattern sequenced by the Keystep Pro, where I play with the LFO rate modulating the PWM, allowing to transpose the the riff.

Then, enter the Drums with the TR-6S (only one pattern was used here with the TR-6S' internal sequencer, with probability on some sounds to add small variations 🤩) and the bass part played by the DB-01 Bassline (sequenced by the Keystep Pro).

At last the J-6 is being introduced to play some plucky chords: the simple chords have been sequenced on the Keystep Pro, however I used the "Arp/Rhythmic phrase" feature of the synth to make them syncopate.

* Hardware used *
- Roland TR-6S: drums
- Roland JU-06A + Pill Pedal (triggered by the TR-6S) : synth chords
- Roland J-6: synth chords
- Erica Synths DB-01 Bassline: bass
- Arturia Keystep Pro: sequencer"

Arturia Keystep Pro Jam and a Few of Our Favorite Performance Features

Perfect Circuit

"The Arturia Keystep Pro is powerful sequencer that could be the centerpiece of your hardware and/or software setup. It has drum and polyphonic sequencers built in as well as multiple arpeggiators. The Keystep Pro can connect to pretty much any device since it outputs USB midi, DIN midi and analog CV/Gate and Triggers. In this video we sequenced a hardware midi synth, some eurorack modules and a software synth running on an iPad.

There are so many cool features that it’s hard to choose one. The arpeggiator was our favorite feature. It is extremely useful for performance and creating new ideas and ways to play chords. You can add up to 16 notes to your arpeggio. You have the ability to create an arpeggio by playing the notes and then selecting the HOLD feature. From there you can make changes to the step and gate length of the notes. Additionally, you can change the octave range, change time divisions, as well as velocity and randomness to the notes all on the fly.

Duo Mono 👥 (Make Noise 0-Coast + H9 // Moog DFAM + Multicomp // Arturia Keystep Pro)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"Going quite minimalist again with this jam featuring only 2 semi-modular analog mono synth (0-Coast & DFAM) and 2 effects (Eventide H9 & EBS Multicomp).

The Arturia Keystep Pro (KSP) was used to sequence both instruments (although I also used the DFAM's 8-step sequencer too 😄). I used 3 tracks on the KSP:
* Track1 - sending gates to sync the 0-Coast clock (for its Sample & Hold LFO) and to the DFAM
* Track 2 - sending CV to the DFAM to transpose its 8-step sequence (with some CV being sent with a 20% probability)
* Track 4 - sending CV & Gate to the 0-Coast to play the main riff (on 2 patterns).

So no MIDI involved for this time, only CV/gate sent between the Keystep Pro, 0-Coast and DFAM 😉

* Hardware used *
- SEQUENCE : Make Noise 0-Coast + Eventide H9 (Tape Delay)
- DRUMS/BASS: Moog DFAM +Erica EBS Multicomp
- Sequencer: Arturia Keystep Pro (+ DFAM's integrated 8-step sequencer)"

Diatonic 〽️ (Waldorf M 1.08 // MAM Adx1 // Arturia Keystep Pro)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"The Waldorf M just got a very nice update (v1.08) and it was a good reason to celebrate with a new video of the M in multi-mode, sequenced by the Arturia Keystep Pro.
My good old buddy the Music And More (MAM) ADX1 5-voice analog drum machine was also taken out for this special occasion to take care of the beat!
Recorded in one shot.

The 8-voices of the M can be limiting when the synth is used in the multi-timbral mode (4 parts), but hey, the creation of this channel was based on the concept of making music in a constrained environment, so it was a nice challenge again 😅

* Hardware used *

- ALL SYNTH parts : Waldorf M
- Output 1: PLUCK riff + Eventide H9 (Diatonic)
- Output 2: PADS + Darkglass Microtubes X (Distortion) + Walrus Audio Julianna (Chorus, Vibrato) + Strymon Bigsky (Reverb) + Pill Pedal (Ducking, triggered by the Keystep Pro kick's gate output)
- Output 3: CHIMES melody + Red Panda Particle 2 (Granular delay) + Death By Audio Rooms (Reverb)

- DRUMS : Music And More ADX1

- All synth & drum parts sequenced by the Arturia Keystep Pro"

ARTURIA RELEASES KEYSTEP PRO 1.2.6 FIRMWARE UPDATE

via Arturia

"It’s Arturia's job to make sure that the products they bring users perform at their best capacity, so users can enjoy the smoothest workflow. That’s why Arturia constantly works on firmware updates for their products: exciting improvements such as new features, improvements and bug fixes.

The teams have worked on analysing feedback on their latest controller, KeyStep Pro, and delivering a firmware update.

The update includes workflow improvements and bug fixes for the most part.

WHAT’S NEW IN KEYSTEP PRO 1.2.6?

Reworked MIDI In implementation
Notes sent to the track’s input MIDI channels are now processed as if these were played on the KeyStep Pro keyboard and transmitted to the MIDI and CV Outputs.
More recording flexibility with the count in
When recording in real time, notes played prior to the recording are maintained after the start and are now recorded as well.
Record several patterns on the fly
Patterns can now be changed while record is ON. This lets you build several patterns at one time leaving more room for your creative flow when jamming.
Drum track time division per pattern
The drum track time division is now stored in each drum pattern and recalled when changing from one pattern to another.
Sync Auto mode improvement
KeyStep Pro is now able to jump back to its internal clock after having been synced to an external source.
Sync handling improvements
Synchronization accuracy has been improved and now supports all clock rate formats.
New screen feedback messages
For some actions, new screen messages have been added to make the workflow more intuitive
Bug fixes
The update also comes with various bug fixes and workflow improvements. For more details, check out the release notes."

Enjoy ✨ (Arp2600m + H9 + Pill Pedal // Arturia Keystep Pro v2.5 // Moog Minitaur // MFB Tanzbar)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"This is my first video featuring the Korg ARP 2600 M, one of my dream synth! (might surely be because of the heavy use of this synth by artists from the Mute label 😄)

For this first jam, I used the ARP in paraphonic mode: Track 3 of the Keystep Pro is sequencing the main riff played by the ARP, and Track 4 is sending CV to the ARP's oscillator 3, thus playing a melody other the main riff.
At the beginning you hear the ARP nearly dry, and I quickly fade in its beautiful integrated spring reverb and the Eventide's H9 Vintage Delay.
I also found a cool trick to temporarily mimic a reverse effect on the sequence played by the ARP, by switching from the ADSR envelope to the AR envelope (where I added more Attack). I used this a couple of times to make some real time breaks 😉

The drums are being played by my mighty analog drum machine: the MFB Tanzbar, however sequenced by the Keystep Pro's Track 1 (Drum track) for this time. The Tanzbar's kick is triggering the Pill Pedal, which is ducking the ARP!

The bass is from the Moog Minitaur (sequenced by the KSP's Track 2).

I also updated my KSP to v2.5 which adds some handy new features, like the "Transpose Latch", which I've been waiting for a long time 🥰 Hence, I can use my left hand to transpose the sequences and my right hand to move faders etc. 🤘

* Hardware used *

// SYNTH:
- Korg ARP 2600 M (semi modular analog synth) + Eventide H9 (Vintage delay) + Pill (ducking pedal, triggered by the kick from the Tanzbar)

//BASS
- Moog Minitaur (analog bass synth)

// DRUMS:
- MFB Tanzbär (analog drum machine)

// SEQUENCER:
- Arturia Keystep Pro, with the latest 2.5 update (introducing "transpose latch", program change etc.)

Overdrive 💥 Cinematic Ambient Jam (Roland JD08 + Pill Pedal // JU06A // Arturia Keystep Pro)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"WIth this 2nd video featuring the Roland JD-08 synth, I wanted to make a more cinematic-like jam! The Keystep Pro is sequencing both synths featured here: the JD-08 (128-voice, 2-part digital synth) and the JU-06A (4-voice digital synth, modelling the analog JUNO-60 and JUNO-106).

The JD-08 is going through the Pill Pedal (ducking pedal) which is being triggered by a sequence coming from Track1 (Keystep Pro).

In order to add some movement to the JD-08, I'm also playing live with its "PITCH FINE" parameter on the transitions. On the outro, I also enabled the "famous" distortion of the JD-08 on its PAD sound 😉

* Hardware used *
- Roland JD-08 + Pille Pedal : Pluck sequence & Pads
- Roland JU-06A : Bass

Higher Ground (Roland JD08 // JU06A // TR6S // Arturia Keystep Pro)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"After a small break (though it's the first time I've taken so long to upload a new video since I created this channel 😊), here is a new video featuring a new Roland Boutique synth: the JD-08!

This digital synth is renewing the famous Roland JD-800 from 1991! The JD-08 is a 128-voice synth, with 2 parts. Each part has 4 layers (each layer can be considered as being a full synth, with its own waveform, filter, envelopes etc.). So it has enough power to create some nice sounds and textures!

So for this video, the JD-08 is playing a chimes sound (sequenced by track 4 of the Keystep Pro) and a string sound (played live). The bass is sequenced by track 2 of the Keystep Pro. As for the drums, they are coming from the TR-6S (sequenced by its internal sequencer).

* Hardware used *
- Roland JD-08 : Chimes & Strings
- Roland JU-06A : Bass
- Roland TR-6S: Drums
- Arturia Keystep Pro: sequencer

Pure Mat ❤️ (Moog Matriarch Dark // Arturia Keystep Pro) live jam, analog synth, raw sound

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"Pure Matriarch raw sound: that was the main idea behind this jam!
I used the Arturia Keystep Pro to play the Matriarch mainly for 2 reasons: the chord memory and scale features of the KSP and the easiness to visualize the notes being played by the Keystep's ARP 😃

What's happening?
1- The jam starts with only one oscillator playing on the Matriarch. I then gradually open up the filter and mix in the 3 other oscillators.
2- At the end I switch on the SYNC on the Matriarch and we can clearly hear the sharp and metallic sound, very characteristic of synced oscillators 🤘
3-The lovely analog stereo delay is playing an important role here in the sound as it is adding fluctuations (its time and feedback being respectively modulated by its 2 LFOs) and stereo width.
4-Note that I used on the Matriarch the SPLIT VCA mode where the Filter Envelope Generator signal controls the level of VCA 1 (Left output), and the Amplitude Envelope Generator signal controls the level of VCA 2 (Right output).

"Perfect for live performance

KeyStep Pro will become your go-to choice for performing live. It’s perfectly geared to bringing your ideas to life, reacts quickly to your creativity, and intuitively puts you in control.
Each of the 4 independent tracks can be used either for creating custom sequences or performing arpeggios. We’ve kept things straightforward: to select a track, just hit the dedicated button for whichever one you want. Track 1 can either be a standard melodic sequencer, or a powerful drum sequencer, depending on your preference and setup.

Once you’ve made a few groups of sequences, you’ll want to save them to play them again in the future. No problem, as KeyStep Pro lets you store and recall 16 different projects. Access them with the “Project” button and the menu knob.

KeyStep Pro also features the same addictive touch-sensitive looper/roller strip as the BeatStep Pro and DrumBrute. Too popular to leave out, this little strip lets you throw in fills and breaks whenever you want, adding an unpredictable edge and live energy to your performances.

Powerful performance controls

Our sequencers can be seen all over the world, and are loved by top artists, studios, and amateur producers alike. KeyStep Pro makes gigging easy and fun, with instant and intuitive access to inspiring performance features. Multi-mode arpeggiator, randomness, easy chord mode, and real-time recording for creating on the fly. The crisp OLED displays and LED-illuminated controls will help you see it all in the dark, too!

Massive jam w/ Keystep Pro, Subharmonicon, ARP Odyssey, DFAM, SH-01a, MI Clouds, and lots of effects

Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by the anticipation of the new (school) year. I wanted to do one last huge setup, with a lot of different gear, before the semester starts and I get busy. I was super happy with where this one went.

At the heart of it is the Arturia Keystep Pro, which is sequencing four melodic lines (bass on ARP Odyssey, pads on SH-01a, melodic arp on Subharmonicon, and granular melody on Clouds), while also providing clock for the non-MIDI DFAMs. Despite the huge assortment of gear on the table, this one just worked for me because the instruments each have a really beautiful baseline sound.

Arturia Keystep Pro — Sequencing and clock
Korg ARP Odyssey into Empress Echosystem — Bass
Roland SH-01a into Strymon Ola into Meris Ottobit Jr. — Pad
Moog Subharmonicon into Meris Polymoon — Arp melody thing
Mutable Instruments Clouds into Strymon Magneto — Granular melody
Moog DFAM into Empress Multidrive into Union Tube & Transistor Lab — Kick and snare
Moog DFAM into Erica Synths & Ninja Tune Zen Delay — Hi hats and noise weirdness

Written and recorded in a 48-hour period and uploaded as is, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

Lunar - Ambient Noise 🎄 (Arp 2600 m // Waldorf M + Red Panda Particle 2 // Arturia Keystep Pro)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"For the last video of 2023, I really wanted to spotlight the raw sound of the amazin ARP 2600 M 🤩
So throughout the whole track, you'll only hear the sound coming directly from the ARP 2600 M without any external effects, though I did use its onboard spring reverb (+ a bit of EQ/comp where used for mixing purposes).
Contrary to my previous (which was the first) video featuring the ARP which was an uptempo track, no beats or kick here! Only the ARP and the Waldorf M (+ Particle granular delay).
The same track from the Keystep Pro is sequencing both synths.

As you can see, I use some patching in this one for the ARP:
 - The VCF output is going through its preamp input to make the distorted sound you gradually hear (it's being played in parallel of the dry sound coming out from VCF output)
 - I also used the LFO to modulate the filter and pulse width of oscillator 2
 - I did did some patching as well, in order to play portamento with one of the ARP's oscillator (using the voltage processor "Lag Time")

* Hardware used *

// SYNTH:
 - Korg ARP 2600 M (semi modular analog synth) - RAW sound
 - Waldorf M (8-voice hybrid digital and analog wavetable) + Red Panda Particle v2 (digital granular delay)

// SEQUENCER:

After experimenting during the last month of 2022 by publishing 7 'Shorts' let's start 2023 with a more than 2-minute video in order to compensate a bit this special month of December 😅
