SOUND BLAST FROM THE PAST: THE YAMAHA QY-70

Published on May 7, 2019 Audio Wanderer

"A demostration of the capabilities of the most beloved portable machine from Yamaha QY series. Not so small like a VHS (QY-10) not too big like a brick (the QY-100) just the right size to call it portable and the right function to be a full MIDI studio. Crispy sound and lots of instruments to create a complex music with it.
You can listen the complete version of the tracks featured on this video here:
https://walkstationer.bandcamp.com/ (All tracks composed on the QY-70)"

---

Side note: Be sure to back yours up if you own one. I owned one and brought it along on my honeymoon, yes I did. :) I created a minimal Joy Division, New Orderish track on it waiting for a ferry. I socked it away for a few years, and when I decided to check it out again, the track was lost because the internal battery died! Couldn't believe it. I had to recreate an approximation of it.

Podcast 273: Dan Goldstein (Cherry Audio)

Published on Apr 21, 2019 20Objects

"Dan Goldstein has been living his dream for 20 years. He started off with Sonic Foundry - back in the golden days - creating the future of audio software from scratch. He went on to be a main developer of Mixcraft, and has recently been involved in the release of Cherry Audio's Voltage Modular synth software. It's a powerhouse, and you can tell that Dan is really excited about it.

We took the opportunity to roll through some of his history, and I learned a lot about Sonic Foundry's world. But I also got a chance to see the trajectory of a guy - in Dan - that knew what he loved, and spent a lot of effort pursuing it. You hear it in his voice; despite the fact that he's been doing it for 20 years, he sounds as excited as a teen with his first car.

It was cool to talk to Dan about history, but also about his current work on Voltage Modular. If you are interested in playing around with a new kind of virtual modular, you should check it out - it's breaking some new ground, and is a blast to play with. You can check it out at https://cherryaudio.com/

Enjoy!"

SOUND BLAST FROM THE PAST: THE ALESIS AIRSYNTH

Published on Apr 10, 2019 Audio Wanderer

"A sound test of my good old Alesis Airsynth. A machine with lots of faults but with an undeniable charisma that will shine when you use the device in the quest of some strange and esoteric noises imposibles to make as simple as with the airsynth, just hovering your hand over this weirdo."

SOUND BLAST FROM THE PAST: THE KAWAI K1M

Published on Apr 6, 2019 Audio Wanderer
Update: Re-Published on Apr 7, 2019

"A little dreamy jam with the cheap and versatile K1 module from Kawai. A very decent polyphonic synth based on additive synthesis principles and very affordable back in the day (1988) and now in second hand markets. Definitely, a sound blast from the past!"

Sempler PRO By NOISS COKO

Published on Apr 1, 2019 Isotonik Studios

"Some products just deserve to be better, and that's the case with Sempler PRO. The original Sempler hit over 5,000 downloads and spawned many feature requests, people just loved it for the impact it had with it's simple usability.

NOISS COKO has taken all of those requests and spent the last few months creating Sempler PRO a mammoth sample sequence manipulator.

Sempler is a polyphonic sample playback instrument, designed to create complex patterns by performing simple actions. The whole device is exclusively driven by its integrated sequencer, which among other parameters allows to set a different starting point, size, pitch, level and delay amount for every single step. Each configuration will then produce a continuous stream of fragments, played one after the other to generate a unique arrangement that results from the combination of these little pieces and bits of audio.

Part of Sempler’s magic resides on the uncertainty factor that surrounds its behaviour and defines the state of its most important parameters. These random functions make it very easy to produce a whole blast of ideas with only the need of a few simple operations.

An extra set of parameters reflect other global aspects of the instrument and help to shape each pattern even further. These control the sequence length, speed and direction, the envelopes that affect every fragment and voice amplitude, and a group of functions dedicated to the Frequency Modulation, Echo and Filter sections."

Cherry Audio and PSP Audioware Release 12 New Modules for Voltage Modular

Published on Jan 24, 2019 Voltage Modular

Playlist:
1. Cherry Audio Voltage Modular: Sampler I and Sampler II Modules
2. Cherry Audio Voltage Modular: Vintage Oscillator Module
3.Cherry Audio Voltage Modular: Remote Control CV Remote Module

Sampler I
This feature-packed sample playback module can load WAV, AIFF, MP3, and OGG files up to a minute in length. Automatic transient detection combined with a Snap to Transient feature makes it easy to create perfect loops. Sampler I is a blast to play with, whether adding drum and percussion loops to patches or building patches around sampled sounds.

This module is FREE for Voltage Core owners, and will appear in the library.

Sampler II
Sampler II includes all of the features of Sampler I, plus real-time stereo sampling. Sampling can be triggered by input that goes beyond an adjustable threshold, or can be started and stopped with CV via the REC GATE input. Sampler II can even resample itself, by feeding its outputs into its inputs. With Sampler II, it’s possible to build generative patches that sample and loop themselves as part of the patch, which can lead to some mind-blowing possibilities.‎

This module can be purchased in the store for $10.‎

Vintage Oscillator
This module offers all of the features of the standard Oscillator module, plus a 64’ setting and linear frequency modulation. But under the hood, this module recreates the imperfect waveforms created by vintage analog oscillators. Featuring low-aliasing, high-performance oscillator models, plus subtle analog drift and imperfection, the Vintage Oscillator module will add classic tone to your modular patches.

This module is FREE for Voltage Core owners, and will appear in the library.

Remote Control
Yet another revolution in what can be done with Voltage Modular: with the Remote Control module you can control any knob, slider, switch, or button with CV, including the macro knobs in the Perform panel. Mapping a channel to a knob is just a matter of clicking the Learn button and then touching any control in your project. That control will now be fully automatable with CV. See it in action!‎

This module can be purchased in the store for $15.‎

PSP Poly Modular Collection
PSP has just released this new suite of 8 polyphonic modules for Voltage Modular. The wide set of features included in these modules combine flexibility and creativity with simple to use designs. These are great for building increasingly complex polyphonic patches, and they’re FREE for owners of the PSP Ultimate Modular Collection.

PSP is showing off their modules for Voltage Modular at The NAMM Show, going on right now. Please visit PSP at Booth 19203 and say hi!

If you're here, you probably know what this thing sounds like. It's a beast. Nothing else does what this thing can do. Consider pairing with your modular, to drive the VCO frequency, etc. It's a blast.

E-MU Audity 2000 AUDIO DEMO of Ambient Pads & Leads!

meat & potatoes, too!! I LOVE THIS AWESOME RACK SYNTH!
It even has 1 extra slot for an expansion board! SWEET!!

Nord Lead A1 - "Quatro Arpeggi"

Comparative Irrelevance
Published on Aug 5, 2017

"Just a quick little ditty on my brand new NL1A. This thing is just awesome: great sounding, and blindingly fast to program.

The synth is four parts multitimbral, and in this little patch I have each part set up using the arpeggiator in a different subdivision of the master tempo. The wheel controls the subdivisions for each part in a different way (one increases, another decreases, and all within different ranges).

I'm also using the built in effects, and the ping-pong delay is especially featured here. This was recorded directly into my camera with no audio post-processing other than a master limiter to set the volume.

This was all just a matter of seconds to set up – no joke! The attention to detail in the design of the user interface and selection of features (and more specifically the lack of unnecessary minutia) is seriously impressive. This thing is an absolute blast to play!"

Roland JP-08 Exploring Jupiter 2017 Analog Circuit Behavior Synthesizer JP8 Rik Marston

Published on Apr 16, 2017 SynthgodXXX

"Roland JP-08 'Exploring Jupiter' 2017
by Rik Marston 100% No Talking!!!
**Watch in HD** **Turn it UP!!**

The Roland Boutique JP-08 JUPITER-8
recreation with K-25M keyboard in an
extensive deep TWEAKING showing off
the power of the JP-08 & it's ACB technology.
I have owned a Jupiter-8 (see my video for it)
and YES the JP-08 can sound like it but it
lacks some of the warmth & charm that a real
JP8 has that it can only produce. That being said,
the JP-08 is FANTASTIC for sound design &
music composition. The JP-08 sounds & behaves
just like a Jupiter-8. Perfect for the person who
craves a JP8 but has a limited budget or just
wants to save a bit. It can be a fight to shape
the right TUNING (as you will hear in the video demo)
the little sliders makes it hard to hit the right sweet spot.
A external midi controller with a ton of assignable
sliders will be a blast to use to control the JP-08.
It's made for all genres, not just the local eighties
cover bands, but serious audio tweakers who need
some serious kit to mold their specific needs into life.
I am using a Roland V-Synth as a MIDI CONTROLLER
for this video, it has Attack & Release programmed
to it's assignable knobs. Recorded DRY into Ableton
Live 7 with no other effects.

"Yamaha DX200 Return of the Funky FM Beats! 2017
Synthesizer demo by Rik Marston 100% No Talking!
**Watch in HD!!** **Turn this UP!!!!**

The incredible Yamaha DX200 is back in full force,
adding a little ACID TB-303 love and some intense
Industrial beats & grooves in this video demo.
Audio was recorded a little bit lower than last time
to avoid any clipping but there is some slight
clipping @ 01:01 & 01:41. So be careful my friends!
Such a fun groovebox to tweak, just a BLAST
to shape the sounds on the fly & get everyone
excited on the dance floor!!!
Yamaha, we could use another groovebox
or Loopfactory like this again, especially with
the new FM-X technologies of the Montage.
It's now 2017. How about it??

Arturia Drumbrute Demo

Published on Nov 21, 2016 Perfect Circuit Audio

"Introducing the next step in analog drum machines: the Arturia DrumBrute. The DrumBrute is professional quality, fully analog drum machine. It has seventeen different drum sounds, all made from purely analog circuits. Along with that are some unique performance effects, and a modern step sequencer. The DrumBrute also has the connectivity one would expect from Arturia. There are individual outputs for each drum sound, as well as a mix out. An analog Clock input and output are present for using the DrumBrute as a Master or Slave clock. The drum sequencer also has a few tricks up its sleeve. Unlike most drum machines, which have synchronized loop patterns, the DrumBrute can have individual pattern loops per drum sound. This means complex cross-rhythms can be produced, with their rhythmic cycles lining up at larger Least Common Multiples. On top of that, randomness can be introduced to make even more complex drum patterns.

The overall sound quality of the DrumBrute is based on the best of vintage drum machines, taking inspiration from the past but pushing the designs to the future, giving the DrumBrute its own signature sound. Every control is hands on and intuitive, making it a blast in performance. It includes things such Step Repeat, Pattern Looper, Mute/Solo groups, song mode, Randomness and Swing functions, all per individual track. With all these tools, one can essentially perform a complete drum track, with no overdubbing or editing necessary."

Steve & Ollilab - Third Berlin School Jam session - eurorack mayhem

Published on Mar 20, 2016 ollilaboratories

"Ok... so ehrm, Steves modular is possibly the most massive eurorack i have seen in real life. It does not only look massive, it sounds massive... its basically doing all the sounds except for the pads on the nord and ms-20 solo sounds, simple bass on the arturia and some hihats on the TR8.. everything else you hear, even the snare drum patterns and the sampled speech is from the modular :)

we have been trying to get together for some time.. but work and other boring stuff got in the way, now finally this weekend we had the opportunity and just went with the flow.

Steve plays several sequences from his machine, and we divided these movements into two distinct parts. .with a small intermission in the middle (sort of).. to give it a story like feel.

it is _very_ psychedelic, and very BEER-lin school (yeap, we had a few).. and after 1,5 hours of jamming we recorded this one in one go.. no overdubs, all live. On the plus side is that i now also have 6 stereo tracks of the audio so we can polish the hisses and buzzes and adjust some levels if needed for a future release ... :)

And FYI, steve sets his modular up at home, noodles away.. and labels all patch cables, and puts everyting together at my place.. so there is a massive amount of prep on this one, so not a blank panel session.

So please enjoy, we have had a blast.. this will definitely be something you will hear from us again... unless steve expands his modular so that it will not fit into my studio :D :D

Cheers from the two of us!

Jounis Gear: ms-20 mini + electroman, Arturia microbrute + ms70 CDR, TR8, KORG volca keys + jomox and mooer reecho

Steves gear: Ultramega massive eurorack modular which he has built several of the modules himself.. if you have detailed questions please ask Steve, +pxguru2329 on youtube"
