Lady Ada Original Run x0xb0x #150

Published on Feb 5, 2014 Brian Comnes·7 videos

via this auction

Note this is Brian Comnes x0xb0x previously featured on the site here.

"Lady Ada original run x0xb0x #150 TB303 clone with power supply.
This is the original run with brass medallion serial number 150. I built this as a kit using good solder and soldering iron, everything is functional , no issues - see video

The kit came with the presoldered USB board which is surface mount so there are no issues with soldering those close connections. The OS is the original.

This has CV pitch (Octave/volt) and gate out so you can sequence other analog gear, it also has MIDI out for the same purpose, it even has audio in so you can run your other tracks through the x0xb0x filters.

The x0xb0x is not just another MIDI-controlled TB-303 clone. x0xb0x is a full reproduction of the original Roland synthesizer, with fully functional sequencer. The sequencer can be programmed just like the original 303 (ok its actually a little easier, we think) and can be used to control other synthesizers via any of its various output formats. 128 banks of track memory and 64 banks of pattern memory are stored in onboard EEPROM, no battery-backup is needed! blinky! No less than 40 LEDs adorn the x0xb0x. Computer Controlled Plug this baby into your computer, using a standard USB port. Our Java software will control the x0xb0x, or let you save/edit stored patterns and tracks in the onboard memory. Input/Output x0xb0x has all the I/O you could ever need: MIDI in, out, and thru DIN Sync (in or out, selectable) CV and Gate (1/8" jacks) Audio: headphone, mix-in and line-level out (1/4" jacks) USB for computer interface & control

Random mode: fill a pattern bank with random notes, or have it just play random notes
Keyboard mode: just like those casios you had as a kid. Press the keys and sound comes out!
Rotary encoder tempo knob: for finer control over the tempo, or you can set the tempo via computer control mode

Firmware upgradable: the C code is written for AVR-gcc, any Mac/Linux/Windows computer can be used to recompile new code for the x0xb0x. Reprogram using the x0xb0x software with USB. Mess something up? You can always revert back to the original firmware."

'Oldest' computer music unveiled

"A scratchy recording of Baa Baa Black Sheep and a truncated version of In the Mood are thought to be the oldest known recordings of computer generated music.

The songs were captured by the BBC in the Autumn of 1951 during a visit to the University of Manchester.

The recording has been unveiled as part of the 60th Anniversary of 'Baby', the forerunner of all modern computers.

The tunes were played on a Ferranti Mark 1 computer, a commercial version of the Baby Machine." You can find the full article with audio and video on the BBC. via Larry Legend. First ever recording of digital music.

Roland SH-09 Analog Synthesizer SN 983125

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The SH-09 excels at killer monophonic bass, and has a real unique sound, one of the better in the Roland SH series. Great for bass sounds, rocking leads, as well as sequencing sounds from older CV/Gate enabled synths/sequencers. It is architecturely on par with the Roland SH-101, and is very fat & analog sounding. It's VCA can switch between gate or envelope and there's a sample & hold function used for VCF filtering acid type sounds. Hook the SH-09 up with one of Roland's CSQ-100 or CSQ-600 Sequencers, and this thing kicks some major sequencing you know what. Another great thing about the SH-09 is the CV/Gate IN & OUT jacks used for sequencing with other analog synths. Also, cool is the external Audio IN input jack used for processing all types of instruments and external audio (guitar, bass, drums, field recordings, other synths, you name it) through the VCF filter.

All sliders move smoothly, no crackling pots, noisy knobs or sticking keys.
For a vintage synth of it's age, this baby is in tip top shape, physically & sonically."

MGMT - Kids short cover on Alesis Ion synthesizer

YouTube via adzy31 | November 25, 2008 |

"me trying to recreate some of the sounds from "Kids" by MGMT. this is one take, the drums are from Reason and the rest is all from the Ion.

A few mistakes but i find it hard to multitask... bass, lead, keyboard and foot pedal are too many things for me to do at once :P

fairly short - i was going to record the entire song but thought....if i'm not singing on it, there's no point really, as the background music is fairly repetitive. maybe if i can find someone with a decent voice we can cover it properly?

the audio is straight from my digicam. i recorded the audio in this on the PC but the volume was messed up, and it sounds alright from the camera anyway."

And the original track (note this is not the official video, see below):

Lyrics: You were a child, Crawling on your knees toward it, Making momma so proud, But your voice is too loud, We like to watch you laughing, You pick the insects off plants, No time to think of consequences [Chorus: Control yourself, Take only what you need from it/him, A family of trees wanted, To be haunted] The water is warm, But it’s sending me shivers, A baby is born, Crying out for attention, The memories fade, Like looking through a fogged mirror, Decision to decisions are made, And not bought, But I thought this wouldn’t hurt a lot. I guess not.

"HD Version: http://www.itsjonsalmon.com
Article about the video: http://www.canyon-news.com/artman2/pu...
About Abby and Rafael: www.myspace.com/abrafever
Just to set the story straight: the facepainted kids in the video are a boy and girl from Los Angeles, two friends of mine, names Raf and Abby. MGMT was not involved in the making of this video, however, they became involved down the line.
The story goes like this: December 2007: Rushing to make a due date for a USC Music Video class, I ask my friends Raf and Abby to appear in my video. I like the way they bounce off of each other despite completely different personality types, and think they both have interesting faces. Raf didn't want to shave so I didn't push him. We shot in one night, I cut overnight, turn it in and call it the worst thing I've done so far.
January 2008: On a whim one night while visiting home in Austin, Texas, I throw the video on Youtube just for kicks.
April 2008: Ray Tintori, who has directed 3 official videos for MGMT, finds my fan video online and invites myself and my two actors to come to New York to appear in MGMTs next official video for Electric Feel.
May 2008: We go to New York and have a great time on the set with the band and all their friends."

Hand-assembled Shruthi-1 - SSM2044 filter

via this auction, cutie.
"This is brand new music synthesizer of mutabile instruments top brand. Synthesizer goes by the sissy name of Luxette, and is of well-respected Shruthi royal family. Unknown color, unable to determine: shiny look, red when looked from right, blue when looked from left, yellow and green when looked from top. Not unlike soap bubble at all or visiting angels from faraway suns. Hencefore warning: scares birds - all kinds of birds specifically vengeful birds! Some parts are of static color: Touchable extremites are darkness and citrus. Rectangular 32-symbols writing area is of same colour as orange-froot, and shiny dots of enlightment that go blink-blink are orange-coloured too. Rooftop of electric music synthesizer can be removed to reveal circuit of colour of dark forces. To ensure maximal cooperation rooftop should not be left open for normal operation, cutie.

Vibrations are above 20 hz and below 18kHz as perceptible by human auditory organs. Emits audio vibrations not suitable for dogs and house ferrets. Emits song of indian accordion, song of japanese fairy violin, song of african sitar, song of irish pagan seductress flute, and song of american ghetto beat box. May emit voice of universally acclaimed composer Emirson Lake Palmeer. Awesome beauty for Duran Duran karaoke too, had a blast with Sharmila Lady-fox the other day on chauffeur song. Does not emit though song of galactic spaceship fleet, song of baby faced by imminent danger, song of mother nation working towards visionary goal, song of purest mathematical abstraction, and soundtrack of enamoured tapir. Sorry for that. Now come here and let the voice of Shruthi entice you. Come closer, come closer and see the kaleidoscope spiral, cutie.

Shruthi synthesizer device does not have two voices, three voices, four voices, or thirty-two voices even, no, no, no: have one glorious voice, but wise proverb says unicorns have one mighty horn too, unlike polycorns. Comes with shiny expensive electronical components shaped like candy pills, shaped like baby spider, shaped like blue-faced deity of vedic times, and first class, top rate, award-winning music filtering spider from SSM company of decadent usa, model reference number 2044. Good for your prosperity, your health and successful wife, but still not good enough for the enamoured tapir sound. Might be okey-dokey for smitten capybara or infatuated alpaca sounds. Dunno-dunno, cutie.

Does have multiple endearing menus on the board, great variety and first rate selection of options from all eras : vibrating strings, filtration, the little algebraic curves that go up and down and up and down forever or just once, interconnections, device that makes musical progression when single key of input device is pressed to emulate well-respected performer of great skills, 64 kbits of memory for the sounds of your wicked conception. Does have little hole on the back to insert sound-trunk-appendage, hencefore songs recorded from microphone, videocassette or educational organ are slowly traveling through Shruthi filtering spider. Does have pair of medium-sized holes with 5 little holes for entrance and exit of so-called "Music Interchange Data Inlet". Come and plug your keyboard instrument, cutie.

Does not have moving part that goes schwiiin schwiiiiin when rainy weather! Does not come with snorkeling equipment for underwater exploration! Does not have matching towel! Does not have off/on/sleep contraption! Output magnitude is eternally programmed to auspicious value of 8.537. Move your ears more more far away from loudspeaker for softer, mellower, little ball of fur song. Comes with energy coupling device suitable for insurgent democratic countries of Westeuropa, voltage label says nine. Can work with other house-hold energy coupling device of other countries, insurgent, decadent or glorious. I think this is all you need to know, cutie."

Circuit bent box containing Musini, sampler and ELC piano

YouTube via thenervoussquirrel
"This box basically consists of three sections:

A modified Musini, which is a baby toy originally intended to get toddlers dancing around the living room. A sensor detects floor vibrations and matches the tempo accordingly, or as the manufacturer puts it:

"Musini's patented MusicSensor detects their every move and translates it into a totally unique musical response, teaching cause and effect."

New knobs and switches have been added to create strange new sounds that would probably frighten the previous small owner of the toy.

The second section is a simple lo-fi sampler that can record up to 20 seconds of audio, either as one long sound or four shorter ones. The sounds can then be looped and the pitch altered.

The third section is a modified Early Learning Centre 'animal piano', which can be used to create blips, crunches and bleeps which contrast nicely with the mellow sweeping sounds of the Musini. This section could also be useful for communicating with a pet dog, cat or bird.

The box was commissioned by Norman Fairbanks (www.normanfairbanks.com), after a few e-mails discussing the types of sounds he was looking for. There should be some higher-quality audio samples on my website at some point, and Norman is planning on creating some new music with the box, which is exciting."

Amin Bhatia "Interstellar Suite" Indiegogo Campaign

Interstellar Suite Needs You!

Published on Sep 6, 2012 by interstellarcrew

Some synth spotting with Amin Bhatia.  Read below and click through to Indiegogo for additional details and pics.  One of the benefits will be a private Bob Moog Foundation dinner.

"Amin Bhatia is feverishly transforming his original analog baby into a 25th Anniversary 5.1 Surround Edition in a special commemorative package but he can't do it alone www.indiegogo.com/is25"

And the official press release:

"Dear "Interstellar Suite" Listener,

The launch has begun!

After twenty-five years of cards, letters and emails The Interstellar Suite is getting remixed in 5.1 surround sound. Amin Bhatia is working with award winning producer/engineer Frank Morrone (Lost, The Kennedys and Sleepy Hollow) to transform his original analog baby into a 25th Anniversary 5.1 Surround Edition. It’s not straightforward and it’s not easy but it’s already blowing the ears and minds of everyone involved on the project.

But that's only the beginning of Amin's vision - imagine bonus audio, all sorts of video extras, and a glossy, full color collectors edition hardcover book.

Starting today* you can pre-order the DVD and get other exclusive perks through a respected fund-raising website called Indiegogo. Starting at $10 every participation level has a cool gift like a binaural mix, the upcoming DVD, a collector's T-Shirt, the collectors edition hardcover book, early synth experiments (Roland synth users will recognize this stuff), your name in the credits, exclusive listening parties in Toronto and LA, a private Bob Moog Foundation dinner with special (secret) guests, and even one of the last ten remaining vinyl LPs from the original release. There's something for every level of support!

Whatever level of participation you choose, The Interstellar Suite 25th Anniversary 5.1 Surround Edition by Amin Bhatia is something you’re going to treasure, savor, hoard and gloat about for at least another 25 years—much in the same way you held your very first Interstellar Suite vinyl album so many years ago. It's the least we could do to thank you for making the Interstellar Suite such a wonderful journey for Amin Bhatia and for you, his fans.

With thanks from the Interstellar Crew

PS. Do you know other gearheads, audiophiles and fans who'd like to hear about this project? Go ahead and share this info via email, Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, Pinterest or that old fashioned device we used to call the telephone!

Ice Ice Baby - Old School Computer Remix Featuring Stephen Hawking DECtalk Vocals

Published on Jun 4, 2019 bd594

"Sorry, It has been a while since my last old school computer remix. Can someone tell me what phone number I am dialing? Hint listen to the other end answer the phone. The audio is optimized for stereo headphones. About 60% of my time was spent programming the DECTalk vocals for Ice Ice Baby. It was really tough to keep the vocals in sync. Back in 2009 I used a 8 inch floppy in my Bohemian Rhapsody video and do prefer that sound. However it appears people are more familiar with 3.5 inch floppy drives rather than 5.25 and 8 inch drives. So in the video I decided to Frankenstein a 3.5 Floppy and CD Rom head assembly.

Devices Used:
Stephen Hawking's vocals - DECTalk Express (Paul)
Backup vocals - DECTalk Express (Harry)
DECTalk TTY Controller - MiniComm II
Bass - Yamaha CX-5M Computer
Synth Bass - 3.5" Floppy / CDRom head mechanism.
Drums - Hard Drive Heads
Cymbals - Hard Drive Platters
Hand Claps - High voltage DC automotive spark coil"

Yamaha GX-1 a snippet , mobile phone audio

Published on Sep 11, 2015 MrFirechild

"I was personally invited by my favorite music store to see , smell, feel ,play and fall in love with THE most rare ,most expensive , most beautiful sounding synthesizer ever created in the universe. The Yamaha GX-1 a forerunner to the little tiny flyweight baby brother , the Yamaha CS-80. The GX-1 in the video is restored in a genius way by the most excellent service tech in the world Ulf Söderlund. With 4 brand new external power supplies the hum and noise from the audio outputs are totally gone. The oscillators pitch are so good you really need to use the random detune feature to not think you are playing a plugin ;) Did I buy it ? No ! It lacked the 3 Auto rhythm voice cards ! Bummer ! Kidding aside, it was of course not for sale but the rhythm voice cards were actually removed back in the early 80´s to eliminate every little thing to make it more stable in recording and live situations due to underpowered original power supply. Yamaha GX-1 what a huge monument in the history of earth. It should be up there with the other seven wonders of the world !"

MOOG Sonic Six 6 Analog Synthesizer

via this auction

"This is a vintage Moog Sonic Six, a little-known and even less understood two-note synth from the mid '70s. Every once in a while, one of these pops up on Ebay with very little description of what it really does. I think it’s time to change that. The first thing most people want to know is how it stacks up against the iconic Minimoog. Here is my own (maybe somewhat biased) comparison.

What you get: Think “Minimoog”, then add another LFO, add a ring modulator, add a 4-octave keyboard, add two-note capability, add more modulation routing capabilities, add a built-in carrying case, and add a practice amp and speaker.

What you don’t get: You don’t get a separate envelope for the filter, since there is only one used for both VCA and Filter. You don’t get a mod wheel, so you have to use the knobs on the panel. You don't get any wood.

VCOs
Sonic Six - 2
Minimoog – 2 (sometimes 3, see LFOs next)

LFOs
Sonic Six – 2 (called Gen X and Gen Y)
Minimoog – 1, or 0 if you use this third oscillator as an additional audio oscillator

Filter
Sonic Six – 1: Resonant Lowpass
Minimoog – 1: Resonant Lowpass

Envelope Generators
Sonic Six – 1, Attack and Decay, with a Mode switch to sustain notes as long as the key is held.down.
Minimoog – 2 , Attack, Decay and Sustain. Separate envelopes for Amp and Filter.

Noise Source
Sonic Six – Yes, Pink or White noise
Minimoog – Yes, Pink or White noise

Ring Modulator
Sonic Six – Yes, use Osc A or GenX/GenY to modulate Osc B or External Input.
Minimoog – No

Pitch Bend Wheel
Sonic Six – Yes
Minimoog – Yes

Modulation wheel
Sonic Six – No, you must use the front panel dials
Minimoog – Yes

Portamento (Glissando or Glide)
Sonic Six – Yes, high note priority
Minimoog – Yes, low note priority

Keyboard
Sonic Six – 49 Keys, Duo, Low note priority for Osc A, High for Osc B, or high note for both Osc in Mono mode. Continuously variable microtonal scaling.
Minimoog – 44 Keys, Mono, Low note priority.

A440 Tone
Sonic Six – Sort of. Turn Osc B tuning knob all the way to the left until it clicks. This puts it in “Concert” tuning, which is supposed to be correct so you can tune Osc A to it.
Minimoog – Yes, dedicated switch

External Audio Input
Sonic Six – Yes, to Ring Modulator, Amp and Filter
Minimoog – Yes, to Amp and Filter

CV/Gate Inputs
Sonic Six – 4: Pitch CV, Volume CV, Filter Resonance CV, 6-pin Moog accessory jack.
Minimoog – 1: 6-pin Moog accessory jack.

Footswitch Inputs
Sonic Six – None
Minimoog – 2: Portamento on/off, Decay on/off.

Carrying Case
Sonic Six – Yes, built in. It’s gray plastic and looks like something a kid would carry a trombone to school in, but it also makes it “Fold and Go”.
Minimoog – No. A case will cost you about $100. Of course, the wood sides are classic and classy.

Speaker
Sonic Six – Yes. It sounds horrible, but at least you don’t need a practice amp. 5cm x 10cm.
Minimoog – No

Belongs in a Museum
Sonic Six – No way. Take it on the road, baby it in the studio, whatever. Just play it.
Minimoog – Ditto

Favorite Sonic Six Tricks
1. Set Gen X to slow ramp up, Gen Y to faster ramp down. Mix the two to get a stair-case wave and generate arpeggiator-like note runs.
2. Set X/Y balance all the way to the left until it clicks. Set Gen X to a very slow triangle wave. Set Osc A to a triangle wave one octave below Osc B. Modulate Osc A with Gen X (just a touch), and modulate Osc B with Osc A (just a touch). Now you have a simple two-operator FM synth.
3. Turn off A/B and turn up the Noise. Set Gen X and Y to square waves and experiment with envelope and filter settings to get rhythmic percussion patterns. Add resonance to taste.

This unit has several different serial numbers on various parts. The exterior case is #1863, I think I saw a #357 on the lower tray, and the upper unit (control panel and two main circuit boards) is #1395. The VCF/VCA board is Rev E, which definitely has the Moog patented transistor-ladder filter, not the older Musonics diode-ladder type."
