Yamaha VP1 Virtual Acoustic Synthesizer - Wonderland | Music By Christian Halten, Game Solitude
video upload by Christian Halten
You can find additional posts featuring the Yamaha VP1 here.
"The track Wonderland by Christian Halten is composed and performed on the very rare Yamaha VP1 Virtual Acoustic Synthesizer released in 1994. The arrangement was recorded using live overdubs, no other instruments nor external effects were used. The visuals for the track derive from the game Solitude by Jerboa Entertainment with kind permission. Solitude is available on Steam from the link below.
The VP1 is a 16 voice synthesizer that creates sounds based on Physical Modeling technique resulting in pseudo-acoustic tones. All sounds can be altered in real time (even material properties) with a lot of onboard controllers including three tactile expression pedals. Yamaha created a custom 64 core computing architecture for the VP1. At the time it was a very expensive instrument and only a few of them were built.
Christian Halten is a film music composer and creative director based in Berlin. He started his career at the age of 17 scoring a cinematic documentary published by National Geographic. Ever since he is passionate about exploring and expressing sound in music to picture. He worked in Los Angeles in various teams around Hans Zimmer. His latest work is a collaboration with composer Michael Stearns.

"This generative patch name is after the movie "Les Maîtres du temps" by René Laloux, with drawings by Mœbius and synthetic soundscapes by Christian Zanési."
French video description followed Googlish further below.
"Le nom de ce patch - et de cette vidéo - fait référence au film "Les maîtres du temps" de René Laloux, dont Mœbius avait signé le dessin et Christian Zanési les ambiances sonores synthétiques.
This patch - and video - name is after the movie "Les Maîtres du temps" by René Laloux, with drawings by Mœbius and synthetic soundscapes by Christian Zanési.
Googlish:
"The name of this patch - and this video - refers to the movie" Masters of Time "by René Laloux, including Moebius had signed drawing and Christian Zanési synthetic soundscapes.
This patch - and video - Effective name is the movie "Masters of Time" by René Laloux, with drawings by Moebius and synthetic soundscapes by Christian Zanési.
Details of the patch:
The only VCO is used DPO.
The first two votes:
The sawtooth of the first oscillator and the square output of the second pass each output by a runway Optomix.
These are modulated by channels 1 and 4 of Maths at the Control and are triggées by EOR and the EOC function outputs.
The Function and Maths intermodulent (outputs are retrieved to change Rise times and / or of the adjacent module Fall).
Third voice:
The outputs of the two sinusoidal oscillators DPO is intermodulent in Moddemix.
I get the output 2 thereof, which allows me to remodulate the result by the SUM output of Maths.
Fourth voice:
Final output of the DPO is directly recovered.
Additional intermodulation:
The EOC output channel 4 Maths just give a clock to the casing 1 of PEG.
This envelope affects the duration of the Rise of channels 1 and 4 Maths.
EOR and EOF PEG outputs provide clocks of Brains and VIII each séquencent Razmasynth that the height of each oscillator DPO.
The functions also comes modulate the FM modulation index between these two oscillators.
The GOLD Maths output is change the Scale of PEG.
Finally, the VCA Matrix I use to mitigate the different tracks.
I get all my sound card and I live in the mix (levels, panoramic + injection in Valhalla Room)."

The Crow Hill Company Introduces POCKET STRING no-barrier-to-entry-styled string library plug-in
video upload by CROW HILL XTRAS
Press release follows:
"The Crow Hill Company creates POCKET STRINGS as no-barrier-to-entry-styled string library plug-in produced without compromise… with added ‘synthy spice’
EDINBURGH, UK: having recently rebranded itself with an aesthetic that truly realises company co-founder and composer Christian Henson’s heartfelt dream of encouraging people to make music and help them on their journey, regardless of whatever point they were at and wherever their journey began, The Crow Hill Company continues its journeying into ‘Season Two’ as a producer of resources and tools to protect, inspire, support, and provide opportunities for music-makers the world over, believing that music is, and should remain, a wholly human experience, one that is by far one of the most powerful forms of expression, escape, comfort, and remembrance, of which its newly-created POCKET STRINGS — styled as a definitive string library plug-in that opens the doors to collaboration between anyone anywhere, creatively combining live cinematic orchestral recordings with some rarefied vintage synth classics made to measure for added body, depth, and character — readily represents the cornerstone of this ethos, as of July 10…
“A string library that’s accessible to all without compromise — a distillation of the last 25, nearly 30, years that I’ve been working as a media composer, which means that I write music for film, TV, and computer games, giving you the very basic necessities to write pro-end string arrangements. Whether that be adding to productions, songs, collaborating with others, or, indeed, creating professional film scores — whether that be to demo for an orchestra to play, or, indeed, to go to broadcast, there’s been no compromises here. But accessibility is the key — not just with the price point, but with usability.” So says Christian Henson himself, perfectly positioned — as The Crow Hill Company’s original founder, forging forward by building upon his extensive experience gained from founding Spitfire Audio to originally offer a palette of sounds he had created for his own use as a professional composer to his film world colleagues by invitation only, though the rest, as they say, is history — to proudly introduce POCKET STRINGS as a never-tried-before strings library plug-in that aims to bring broadcast-grade string possibilities to everyone.

"/ / / / / Viewing with headphones or a stereo source is highly recommended / / / / /
This colorful video features sound artist Charles Cohen improvising on a 1970's Buchla Music Easel. This extremely rare instrument is one of Don Buchla's 200 series. Buchla (a pioneer of audio synthesis) only manufactured 14 of these units. The entire film was edited from an hour-long set of free improvisation, with audio was taken directly from Charles' mixing board.
All of the photography and editing was produced by Alex Tyson, a sound and video artist from Pennsylvania. The film was shot in 16:9 720p High Definition format, using a 35mm LensBaby 3GPL.
This film is free to distribute, share, blog, vlog, etc. When re-posting, please copy and paste this text to inform anyone about the film.
At this time the film is only available online. While you can stream it in HD, it is best viewed on DVD.
Please contact the filmmaker for hard copies if interested.

Christian Guenther's XR-1
I spotted this one on StromKult. It is currently sold out, but Christian is working on a new model. I couldn't find any additional info, so I contacted Andreas Schneider of StromKult and Schneiders Beuro via @SchneidersBeuro. I asked him if there was a website with more info. Currently there is not, but his work is out there and has been featured at the Musikmesse Superbooth. You can see an article featuring his work with Moritz Wolpert here in German (Googlish here). You might recognize the "steampunk" modular in the image from this previous post.
You can find some nice higher res pics of the XR-1 that just went up today on Aliens-Project here.

Playing the Cursus Iteritas with MPE
junklight
"The Cursus Iteritas is my kind of oscillator and as soon as I heard a demo I knew I needed one. More often than not though it ends up making percussive sounds. For todays video though I hooked it up to the seaboard via the FH-1 and let it do its thing. The output is routed via the Viol Runia for some extra grit & flavour
Accompaniment is a Christian Henson piano sample and MLR, Morphagene and W/ are adding to the action too. Reverb as ever is Valhalla DSP.
Talking of Christian Henson his recent video is very interesting on the topic of synthetic/natural sounds [below] and goes a long way to explain why I love adding layers of distortion to everything :-)"

Introducing: GUITAR HIVE
video upload by The Crow Hill Company
"You have never heard a sample library like this before. Instant, Cure, Smiths, Cocteau, Lanois, Eno, Edge, Steve Reich vs Pat Metheny under your fingertips. An homage to great British guitar beds from shoe gaze to stinking student union bars in the north of England to the pristine layers of Reich’s Electric Counterpoint. Construct endless layers of interweaved guitar parts that become a highly controllable sonic weapon that goes from elegant to pure filth in no less than a turn of a dial.
Join the minds (and fingers) behind this; Christian Henson and Theo Le Derf on the beginning of your Hive journey. This is the gift we all wanted this Christmas."
Press release follows:

EDINBURGH, UK: The Crow Hill Company is proud to announce availability of FILTH - GUITAR HIVE — heading up its FILTH sub-range of products produced and recorded at the Annex in Edinburgh, Scotland, its self-styled safe house packed with vintage equipment, rarified instruments, synths, processing, and potential, with the main emphasis being on creating more experimental sample projects that think out of the box and are the very antithesis of virtual instruments; in this case, guitar performances on a limited-edition Fender Telecaster by Theo Le Derf, D.I. (Direct Injection) recorded via a pristine Thermionic Culture The Rooster Valve pre-amp with EQ & attitude and mixed through countless processors to give users control over the uncontrollable, ultimately providing what all at the music-making community tools-maker collectively yearn for in the process... utter filth — as of December 18…
Now knowing what FILTH - GUITAR HIVE is positioned as being, best to take a function-highlighting, whistle-stop tour of its clearly considered UI (User Interface) implemented to take that mission statement to the musical masses, filthy or otherwise. On the face of it, the front panel-dominating ‘Obutsu!’ is basically a ‘filth’ dial, allowing users to effortlessly transform their sound with three simultaneous signals — from tasteful and pure D.I. to a crunchy deluxe amplifier, all the way to overdriven feedback and tempo-synced tremolo; SHIMMER is a dual-direction granular pitch shift fed into a massive reverb chamber, creating a cascading, shimmering veil of tone; DRIVE is an unmistakably distorted, crunchy signal, modelled after a tube amp that has been utterly misused; ECHO is a tape-based, multi-tap echo/delay that syncs to the host tempo — an associated speed control determines what subdivision of the beat the repeats play at; and SPLOSH is a suitably reasonable decaying reverb for anyone’s roomy needs.

Superbooth 2023: Modal Electronics - Carbon 8 & Limited Edition Cobalt And Argon 8
video upload by sonicstate
"Christian at Modal Electronics gave us a preview of the forthcoming 8 voice experimental digital synth Carbon 8.
Carbon 8 employs over 40 complex waveform algorithms, and is geared towards the more agressive and harsh modern spectrum of sounds. With two discrete oscillators, the Carbon 8 has a similar form factor to earlier Modal Synths, but has a new mixing stage with independent level controls for each oscillator. While the synth is in development, it already boasts a total of 33 filters to give total control over sound shaping, a 512 note sequencer, arpeggiator and 26 effect algorithms.
Available September 2023
Price: TBC"
Superbooth 2023: Modal - Limited Edition Cobalt And Argon 8
"At Superbooth 2023, Sonic State caught up with Christian from Modal Electronics who showcased the limited edition Argon 8 and Cobalt 8 synthesizers. In celebration of Modal Electronics' 10-year anniversary, the Argon 8 pays homage to the Modal 002 with its color scheme and comes with firmware version 3.0 and new features. The limited edition synthesizer will be available in stores in September and there will be only 100 units worldwide. It will be priced the same as the regular Argon 8, and it is only available in the 37 key version.
The Cobalt 8 synthesizer, which comes in the dark color scheme of the Modal 008, will be availablearound Christmas time. Modal Electronics is currently seeking customer feedback to decide if they will release the Cobalt 8 in a 37 key version, 61 key version, or as a module. If you want to get your hands on these limited edition Modals, keep an eye out for their release at the end of 2023."

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #98: Alesis S4 QuadraSynth - Song 3
Christian's Sonic Spaces
"This is the third song with the S4 QuadraSynth. It's a 64 voice 16-part multitimbral ROM-based synthesizer from the early 90s.
I used for the recording the following FX chain:
S4 QuadraSynth - Digitech Obscura - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated.
The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."
