1 MAKING A DRUM MACHINE EP 0 / overview of the project + free sample pack!
Hey hey hey!2. CD40106 MASTER CLOCK / making a drum machine EP 1
This is the introduction to a series of videos about my analog modular drum machine. I’m going to start posting videos about the individual modules so make sure to subscribe to the channel if you're interested in stuff like this! Sorry this first video has a lot of talking but there’s a bunch of sound demos at 7:53
The drum machine is powered with a regular 12V DC power supply, but all the circuits should be working from maybe 5V to at least 15V.
This is the first module in a series of modules for an analog modular drum machine! It's a simple clock oscillator and you can use the circuit as an audio rate oscillator as well.3. PATCHABLE DRUM SEQUENCER / making a drum machine EP 2
Here's a link to the schematic and a zip file with the gerber files for the PCB: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/4rxf1a...
Download some free samples from the drum machine here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/1qnq4t...
Thank you PCBWay for the circuit boards! If you want to order your own boards and you haven’t used their services before, you can get a 5$ welcome coupon with this referral link: https://pcbway.com/g/4TImAO Thank you goodbye! ❤️"
Heyyyy4. CMOS COWBELL / making a drum machine EP 3
This is my patchable CD4017 gate sequencer for the modular drum machine. The patching is kind of a weird workflow for a drum sequencer, but it IS fun and inspires you to program different sequences from your usual drum sequencers.
Here's a link to the schematic and a zip file with the gerber files for the PCB: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/vrmmjw...
Hello y'all!5. CMOS HI-HAT + WHITE NOISE / making a drum machine EP 4
This is my modular drum machines simple cowbell module! It's based on Elliot Williams' circuits from his Logic Noise articles.
Link to the schematic: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/fd2hyt...
And here's a link to Williams' article about cowbells and cymbals: https://hackaday.com/2015/04/10/logic...
This is the bigger brother of the XOR cowbell! It has 6 oscillators going through 4 XOR gates, making the sound more complex and inharmonic, perfect for metallic sounds like hihats and cymbals. The next video is going to be about the high pass filters i'm using a lot in the video! They help a lot with this circuit, making the sound way more usable as a hi-hat. I'll put the video out in a week or two!6. FIXED FILTERS (HPF & LPF) / making a drum machine EP 5
Schematics: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/eab78o...
The logic noise article this circuit is based on: https://hackaday.com/2015/04/10/logic...
About the white noise generator on Synthnerd's website: https://synthnerd.wordpress.com/2020/...
This is my CD4069 fixed filter module! It's 2 super simple circuits: a high pass (x4) and a low pass (x2) filter. It's a surprisingly useful module in the drum machine considering how simple the circuits are. The component values could be optimised better so the different filters would have similar volume levels, but I was happy with the sounds so who cares!
Schematic: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/uit9zx...
I have been building instruments other than the drum machine as well and I think the next couple of videos will be other stuff, but I will then get back to the drum modules!

The GND-1T (Speak & Glitch GND-1T) | Circuit Bent Speech Chip Synthesizer
video upload by Shirato_Noise
Follow-up to the Speak & Glitch GND-1
"I'm very happy to finally be able to introduce this instrument. The GND-1T is a synthesizer developed by Richard van Hoesel and is the successor to the GND-1. The major improvements are the touch screen and the addition of built-in drum sounds. This allows for the simultaneous generation of circuit bent speech chip sounds and chaotic rhythms.
This video introduces the preset sounds and twists them a bit. No additional effects.
Check out his web page for further details and manuals for this instrument.
https://richardvanhoesel.com/gnd1t/
As a backstory, I have provided a few sample sets for the drum sounds of this instrument. These are my acoustic drums, percussion sounds, and some unique synthesized electronic drum sounds. I hope you enjoy them!"

Superbooth 2024: MyVolts Alchemist 200W Isolated USB Power Hu
video upload by sonicstate
"Caroline from MyVolts introduced the Alchemist Power Distribution Hub (launching on Kickstarter today), highlighting its progression from prototype to production. This hub, designed with musicians in mind, offers five isolated outputs with up to 20 watts each, plus an additional output providing 100 watts, also capable of powering devices like a MacBook.
Kickstarter: https://bit.ly/myvolts-sb24
Alchemist can power various items, such as an Elektron Analog 4, Korg devices, and modular rigs from Intellijel, Pittsburgh and others with different voltage outputs through USB-C cables using the range of Step-Up tips including a new 15v converter.
The hub canb be powered by powerbanks an traditional power bricks, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of power sources. Caroline emphasized the hub's isolation feature, eliminating grounding issues common with other USB power supplies. There is also a non-isolated version available.
Additionally, Caroline showcased the evolution of their original *Crazy Chain*, now featuring a polarity indicator and a robust design capable of handling up to 100 watts.
The Kickstarter launch for the Alchemist gives early bird backers the opportunity to receive a free basic Alchemist unit (non isolated).

Additional Tone Tweakers Listings

"Like nearly all the high end vintage analog synths we sell, this item has been METICULOUSLY disassembled, cleaned inside and out, FULLY serviced by professionals who’ve been servicing and selling vintage synths for more than the last 3 decades, and systematically tested multiple times over a long period to ensure it’s working exactly as it should. No BS. No ebay surprises. We’re perfectionists and don’t cut corners. Although this instrument came to us in relatively good shape, we want our items to be better than the rest and invested *many* hours of tech time plus parts costs to fully overhaul this unit so it would be clean, working like new again and as reliable as possible for its next owner. This was a serious investment of time, love, and money, and was definitely worth the effort and is of course reflected in the higher than usual price. If you’re looking for a great sounding example of this model that works just like it should without needing to invest hundreds or thousands of dollars in tech fees and waiting from weeks to years, this one should make you very happy.
Our tech did the following work to this unit to make it better than the rest / promote longevity:
Power supply capacitors replaced.
Battery replaced.
Patches reloaded.
Cleaned all switch contacts.
Cleaned unit inside and out.
Installed new encoders to prevent the usual glitchiness one often experiences with original 40 year old encoders (changed ceramic caps in circuit for compatibility).
Cleaned key contacts and PCB.
Cleaned sensor.
Replaced pitch and mod lever potentiometers with new ones since the originals are often problematic these days.
Multiple systematic burn in tests to ensure stability.
OS ROM 1.1, voice 1.6.
Selling fees here are over $1000, and professional servicing by perfectionists and future-proofing is costly."

Knobcon 23:Circuit Happy Missing Link Junior
video upload by sonicstate
"Back at KnobCon 2023, (yeah we know its been a while - lets just say there was data recovery in play) Ed Guild from Circuit Happy unveiled their latest innovation, the Missing Link Junior.
The Missing Link Junior is the successor to the original Missing Link Desktop, which faced challenges in production due to parts shortages and manufacturing issues. To overcome these hurdles, Ed went back to the drawing board and completely rebuilt the device, leveraging the hardware platform of their previous product, ML2. The result is a clock generator with enhanced robustness, addressing previous jitter issues.
This new hardware promises a seamless clock output, ensuring precision in synchronization for music production. The Missing Link Junior features Ableton Link integration, allowing it to synchronize with other devices over Wi-Fi, even if they are not running Ableton Live, making it an essential tool for any musician looking to maintain tempo and timing consistency during performances. The device also boasts a handy safety feature that allows users to reset synced devices in case they fall out of sync. With a proper MIDI port and analog sync outputs, the Missing Link Junior offers a more modular-centric option for those looking to expand their music setup.
The product is expected to hit the shelves in two to three weeks, with a price tag of $240 USD, while the previous model, ML2, is priced at $215 USD.
For more information on the Missing Link Junior and Circuit Happy's range of music production tools, visit their website at Circuit Happy."

Simple solid clock sync! The Missing Link & ML:2 (Ableton Link) // Circuit Happy at Knobcon 2023
video upload by DivKid
"Giving the demo without any audio to listen to is a big move. A bold move made possible by rock solid behaviour from the devices from Circuit Happy. We have The Missing Link Junior and ML:2 Eurorack modules that are both Ableton Link enable devices for not just clock sync and reset but bar position aware behaviours for triggering and syncing to the patterns too. Impressive all round."
