Update:
the press release, just in, follows with additional details and some spectacular renders of a conceptual hardware version. Before you get to excited, Imagine is software only:

Expressive E and AAS Team Up on the Imagine Software Instrument: A Playful New World of Unknown Acoustic Sounds.

Imagine lets you easily play with a new variety of sounds—acoustic, organic, and alive from the resonant bodies of real-life instruments.

Paris, France, September 9, 2021 — Expressive E’s new Imagine plug-in instrument captures the qualities of different real-life instrument bodies and modifies and combines their acoustic characteristics to create an imaginary acoustics landscape.

Thanks to a playful, multidimensional approach, Imagine allows you to have evolving textures, including several dimensions to explore for each preset. This unique approach produces mysterious, inspiring, unknown sound dimensions from familiar-sounding elements.

Imagine results from an exciting collaboration between Applied Acoustics Systems (AAS)—the foremost pioneer of acoustic physical modeling software instruments — who provides the sound engine — and Expressive E, a company grounded in the mission of improving the way musicians interact with sounds by creating a much more intuitive and powerful music-making experience.

“At the forefront of a new generation of controllers that provide multidimensional expression, Expressive E’s expertise proved to be a perfect match for our physical modeling technology,” says Marc-Pierre Verge, CEO of Applied Acoustics Systems. “They created a flexible and playful interface based around real-time manipulations that allow one to morph between layers of resonating objects. This inspired their sound design team to create a brilliant library of rich organic soundscapes to explore.”

"Expressive E is proud to announce Osmose, the new universal standard for musical expressivity. Osmose is a polyphonic synthesizer that unlocks new ways to control sound and features a powerful sound engine created in collaboration with the leading-edge audio company, Haken Audio.

The conclusion of an epic adventure

Three years ago, Expressive E embarked on an ambitious adventure by opening the pre-orders for their standalone synthesizer, Osmose.

Osmose elevates a playerʼs experience by introducing a new landscape of features for musicians to interact with sound and produce music in new ways. It does this while not only respecting, but also enhancing the playerʼs existing keyboard skills. Every note can be articulated independently with unique expressive possibilities, such as those seen in this Osmose gesture compilation video: https://youtu.be/AA5xe7k4OrM

To achieve that goal, the Expressive E engineers set out to industrialize a new generation of expressive keybed which is at the core of Osmoseʼs playing experience. The biggest challenge was to implement all expressiveness-related technologies into the familiar keybed form factor of the piano that musicians have been using for centuries. Creating a new kind of keybed generated many industrial production obstacles and ultimately required a total symbiosis between DSP and hardware to connect all players to Omoseʼs sound through the use of natural gestures.

Expressive E engineers conducted hundreds of on-field test sessions to fine-tune the complex design of the synthesizer. Artists played a tremendous role in the refinement of Osmose by providing precise feedback about playing sensations and helped shape a new ergonomic tool, relevant for musicians from various music scenes and cultural horizons. Thanks to their support as well as the early adopters and partners, the wait is finally over: Osmose has now started to ship.

First deliveries and re-opening of preorders
Expressive E are thrilled to announce the delivery of the first Osmose units to early adopters of the project. The first products had already been delivered in late 2022 and early backersʼ shipments will keep flowing continuously.

Expressive E have thus decided to reopen pre-orders on January 5th 2023 for all musicians interested in purchasing Osmose. The pre-order scheme has been reconducted to allow Expressive E to anticipate demand as efficiently as possible and organize their production schedules accordingly. Despite a tense economical environment driven by inflation, component shortages and the resurgence of epidemics, the company will still commit to guaranteeing a $/€1,799 retail price, within the limits of allocated stocks.

Interested musicians can now pre-order their Osmose on Expressive Eʼs website or through an affiliated dealer. [see the dealers on the right]

A new kind of synthesizer
From its inception, Osmose was designed as a solution to connect musicians with electronic instruments more intimately while still retaining the sound-design abilities of modern-day and vintage synthesizers.

Backed by a powerful sound engine made in collaboration with pioneering audio company Haken Audio, Osmose offers more than 500 creativity-boosting presets. Each of them was fine-tuned to offer performance and recording-ready macros. Preset curation covers many musical genres including modern pop, urban, film scoring, electronic music, sound design, and traditional instrumental music.
Made to inspire, Osmose offers a playful experience based on familiar features and thus presents a gentle learning curve. It offers the benefits of MPE instruments without the need to relearn the instrument entirely.

From the beginning, Osmose has been a collaborative project with artists from many musical backgrounds. They have been involved in the development of Osmose to make it a musical companion to fit their creative and ergonomic needs. Expressive E celebrates these artist collaborations with the release of a video series recapping the Osmose adventure and the reaction of artists to the new, dynamic, inspiring synthesizer.

Shot in Chennai (India), Paris (France), and Los Angeles (USA), the video series features musicians and producers like Flying Lotus, AR Rahman, Jean-Michel Jarre, Mike Dean, Cory Henry, André Manoukian, and Tarik Azzouz. It shows their approach to musical expression, how they interact with Osmose, and how this new synthesizer has influenced the way they play. A trailer for the series is now available on YouTube.

During Q1 and Q2 2023 Expressive E will regularly release clips focusing on each individual artist from the main trailer video. The first three episodes of the series are now available on YouTube. They feature musical icon A.R. Rahman (Grammy winner and film scorer for 127 Hours and Slumdog Millionaire), jazz virtuoso J3PO (a prolific solo artist and keyboardist for Marcus Miller), and trap beatmaker veteran Tarik Azzouz (a Grammy winner who has worked with Jay-Z, DJ Khaled, 2 Chainz, and many more)."

EXPRESSIVE E Touché Update w/ Lié 1.2 Update Featuring Presets for the Moog Sub 37

Uploaded on Sep 13, 2017 Expressive E

"In this series of videos, we explore some of the presets for the Moog Sub 37 that comes with every Touché.

Touché ships with Lié, its companion software. Lié is a host of plug-ins and comes with tailor-made sounds and configurations for a selection of synthesisers, as well as tools to make your own software and hardware presets.

Those hardware presets for Touché are templates that make your experience truly plug-and play with hardware synthesisers from Moog, Dave Smith, Korg, Roland, Nord, Yamaha, Novation, Elektron, Arturia, Waldorf...

For a selection of synths, the hardware presets for Touché are one step further, matching some of their factory presets.

All hardware presets can be saved in Touché's internal memory, in order to use Touché in standalone, without any computer.

More informations about Touché : www.expressivee.com
More informations about the Sub 37 : https://www.moogmusic.com"

"The goal of the Expressive E team is to make the whole experience with Touché even more plug-and-play at each update, to make sure that using Touché is both fun and intuitive.

That’s why Expressive E announces Lié v1.2. This version expands the preset library of Touché both for hardware and software synths, in an effort to provide the user new creative options and new ways to explore the capabilities of Touché’s versatile and precise sensitivity.

The update also brings new features to Lié that will ease even more the process of setting up Touché, creating new sounds and playing with the instrument.

SO WHAT'S NEW ?
Expressive E is making a step further with the hardware presets. The new presets are based on the factory presets from a selection of modern synthesisers, and now feature full parameter mapping instead of just CC renaming, making the experience even more plug-and play than before.

Expressive E is adding new third-party plug-ins to the list of software presets for Touché. Already included were Native Instruments Massive, Prism, and Razor, and Lennar Digital Sylenth1. This update brings new presets for Native Instruments Monark, U-He Diva, Reveal Sound Spire, KV331 Synthmaster, and Arturia Mini V, SEM V and ARP 2600.

Touché and Lié ships with a great number of sounds tailor-made from scratch for Touché. With Lié 1.2 Expressive E adds 50 new presets to the list, all ready to be played out of the box with the bundled player UVI Workstation.

New Features of Lié :

Automatic Firmware Update : Prompts the user to upgrade their firmware if Lié detects that the version of Touché is too old. If the user accepts, the process starts immediately, no need to browse for a file or do anything else.

Manual re-calibration : Touché auto-calibrates itself each time it is powered. With Manual calibration, Touché will re-calibrate each time you press and hold the two buttons at the same time until the LEDs stop blinking.
Improved plug-in scan : Prompts the user to scan for plug-ins if the plug-in list is empty when Lié opens. The scanning process is now much more stable.

Other minor improvements : Cancel button added in the preset modification window, toggle on/off for the preset modification window, and bug-fixes.

Expressive E is planning to release an open beta for the Windows version of Lié. Subscribe to the list of beta-testers to get early access to Lié for Windows, and help Expressive E improve it !

Please note that this Windows version of Lié will only be compatible with Windows 10."

Expressive E Announces Lié & UVI Partnership

Uploaded on Jan 7, 2017 Expressive E

You might remember Expressive E's innovative Touché controller introduced last year at NAMM. The last post I had on them was actually back on January 25 of 2016. You might have wondered why they went dark for a bit. Well it appears they were busy making improvements as well as working with UVI.

"At the last NAMM Expressive E announced Touché, a unique instrument with a sensitive and tactile approach of synthesizers. Expressive E took time to refine their offer, and they have several things to announce:

- Lié, a powerful software
- An exiting partnership with UVI
- A brand new website
- Engaging video content

TOUCHÉ
Touché gives you a unique tactile approach of both software and hardware synthesizers, shaping and controlling their sound with a simple pressure of your hands. It feels natural and gives you a powerful connection with music.
Touché controls your synthesizers with four independant shi ings : Two vertical and two lateral shi ings. The four shi ings are extremely precise, reactive and sensitive. This opens up a wide variety of genuine instrumental gestures : progressive slides, subtle vibratos, percussive taps, hand-made LFOs... Each of the four shi ings can be independently mapped to one or several parameters of your synthesisers. To help you with this, Touché ships with Lié, its companion software.

LIÉ
Lié is a powerful software with a simple design. You can launch it inside DAWs supporting VST or AU plug-in formats. When you launch Lié, you can immediately start playing with the factory presets, or build your own sound from scratch.

The Browser shows you the list of the factory presets, as well as those you’ve saved yourself.

The Slot Center is an easy to use slot- based interface, with 8 assignable slots.

Each of the 8 slots allows you to map a parameter from your synthesizer to one of the four shi ings of Touché.

You can then adjust your sensitivity with min/max values and sensitivity curves.

The scope displays the pressure you’re applying on Touché.

You will find these three parts in either software or hardware connection scenarios, with slight

differences :

Playing with software

To control software synthesisers, Lié works as a host of virtual instruments with VST or AU format. Once hosted, you can access the virtual instrument’s interface directly from Lié, and quickly map parameters with Lié’s Speed Mapping features.

You can then save your configuration in a software preset that will appear in the browser.

Playing with hardware
Hardware synthesisers are controlled with Touché’s built-in CV and MIDI ports. Lié lets you configure what Touché sends through its CV and MIDI ports.

When working with MIDI, you can select the CC numbers of your synthesisers that you want to control, and assign them to one of the four shi ings of Touché. To make this workflow even easier, Lié ships with INIT presets for a selection of hardware synthesizers, replacing the CC numbers with the actual names of the parameters instead.
When working with CV, Lié lets you choose the voltages that Touché sends for each CV port individually, on a -10/+10 Volts range.

Hardware configurations can then be saved in a hardware preset that will appear in the browser. You can even flash these presets into Touché’s internal memory, and play with your hardware synth without any computer.

UVI
To fully exploit the instrumental potential of Touché, Expressive E made a partnership with UVI.

UVI was awarded multiple times for their industry-leading instruments, effects and sound libraries. Their flagship instrument, Falcon, is highly respected by some of the world's leading composers, sound designers, musicians and producers.

Expressive E used the powerful sound engine from Falcon to design over 100 exceptional presets. They offer a wide array of sounds, from agressive leads to soft pads, and a rich variety of playstyles.

These sounds will ship standard with every Touché, ready to be used within UVI’s player UVI Workstation.

Here’s a video showing Touché in action with some of the presets they have made:

"🔥🔥🔥 Discover Expressive E free 🎁 original presets for #NATIVEINSTRUMENTS #MassiveX synthesizer! These presets are available for #Touché and Non-Touché users and can be used with or without Touché. Download link 👉🏼 www.expressivee.com/massive-x
This new 20-preset collection harnesses the advanced sound-design capabilities of Massive X and offers users the next level in articulate playability.

📌You don’t already have a Touché or Touché SE?
Expressive E has released a free synthesizer preset pack that does not only require one of its unique Touché or Touché SE controllers. The deep modular nature of Massive X lets its users interact with its sounds much more expressively than on traditional subtractive synthesizers, making it a perfect candidate for the sound design talents of Expressive E’s team. Their free presets utilize Massive X’s macro controls with multiple parameters per macro, sophisticated programming, so users can immediately shape the sounds in creative ways with the turn of a single control. Even after the initial sound stops—for instance with short pluck or bell sounds—the macros that single control continues to put out volume and timbre changes with no need to re-trigger the note.

🎁 This Massive X 20-preset download is free to anyone who registers an account at Expressive E’s website: www.expressivee.com

Owners of an Expressive E Touché or Touché SE controller will have an even more precise and supremely tactile experience with these sounds. The devices’ four-axis control surface offers the highest degree of touch and pressure sensitivity for both the most subtle and most aggressive parameter changes.

While anyone can open these free presets directly in Massive X, Touché and Touché SE owners can open them Expressive E’s Lié plugin host software. This allows the user to manipulate up to eight of Massive X’s macros at once with a single hand, making rhythmic manipulation of the sounds much more varied and physically intuitive. Each of those Massive X macro controls manipulates multiple parameters, making these synth sounds extraordinarily dynamic when used the Touché or Touché SE.

Touché and Touché SE hardware ships with more than 200 sounds powered by UVI Workstation software. These sounds are custom-designed to perfectly complement the controllers’ four-directional movements. Lié also includes presets for more than 30 popular software and hardware synthesizers from brands such as ARTURIA, KORG, MOOG, NOVATION, ROLAND, UH-E, and others. These free MASSIVE X presets are Expressive E’s latest sound design effort but by no means the last.

They are available now, along with the Touché ($399) and Touché SE ($229), at www.expressivee.com

Shot beginning of March 2020 at the Expressive E office, this video is giving a sneak peek at the current state of 8 sounds that our in-house sound designers are programming using the EaganMatrix by Haken Audio, the synth engine that will be internal to Osmose.

These sounds range from different categories such as classic synth sounds, FM keys, cinematic pads, lo-fi experiments and crazy effects, all taking advantage of the new keybed interactions offered by Expressive E's Augmented Keyboard Action©.

Audio recorded at 44,1kHz, 24bit with a Native Instruments Komplete Audio Mk1 without further processing.

While development of the industrialized prototype is going according to plan, the unit shown is still the same prototype unit that appeared in earlier videos. Creating it involved 3d printing techniques as well as manual labour by our engineers, meaning that you can see some irregularities in the keybed. The final, industrialized model will certainly not show such tolerances and will feature a flawless, even keybed

Noisy 2 - Walkthrough Video

Press release follows:

After the successful launch of Osmose, MPE expert company Expressive E continues to expand its sound ecosystem with Noisy 2. Built for expression, Noisy 2 offers a new MPE mode that goes way beyond regular MPE integration. Its workflow was built for intuitive and expressive sound design, unleashing novel playing possibilities. To match its next-gen MPE abilities, Noisy 2 is powered by an outstanding sound engine based on new acoustic and analog resonators. This synth was made to be expressive with any MPE or classic MIDI controller and brings a brand new expressive experience for sound designers and musicians.

Unlocking new playing gestures for MPE users

At the heart of its MPE mode, Noisy 2’s expression blocks offer new playing possibilities for MPE users with trig modes.

Inspired by its Osmose experience, these Trig modes are a new, powerful, and playful way to trigger envelopes: add sound impulses by accelerating your gesture downwards (push), upwards (lift), or alternating up and down (shake) at any point within the key’s travel.

Listen to the new musical possibilities unlocked by Noisy 2’s MPE mode here.

Easy expressive sound design

Noisy 2 has been built to make the expressive sound design experience fun and intuitive.

Its workflow enables musicians and sound designers to intuitively choose their own way of interacting with the sonic dimensions of any preset. With a few clicks on the expression blocks, users can find the perfect balance between Pressure, Aftertouch, and the envelope generator to refine their personal expressive playing experience.

Producers and musicians can now integrate new motions into their projects by sculpting sounds directly with their hands and fingers.

On top of deep MPE integration, Noisy 2 offers various ways to simply and creatively add motion to sounds. With both classic MIDI and MPE controllers, the Expression Control section can now deeply alter each layer of Noisy 2 and its two FX slots with a simple turn of a knob.

Expressive E Mercury Expansion Preset Pack for Touché

Uploaded on Jun 21, 2018 Expressive E

"Expressive E is releasing a new bank of presets for its unique expressive instrument, Touché. Named “Mercury”, this expansion is the first of its kind from the company, and widens the range of sonic possibilities ofered by the combination of Touché and Lié, Touché’s companion sofware.

The Mercury expansion adds 80 new presets to Lié, with a strong focus on electronic and dance music genres. Here’s Expressive E own words :

'With Touché and the Mercury expansion, you will explore dance music genres within one gesture. One sound can take you from heavy basses of trap music straight into the realm of electronic dance music’s “taser” leads.
A misty arp can turn into rhythmic synth chords, and a sof pluck can become an aggressive stab, with just a touch of your hands. From Deadmau5 to Major Lazer, from DJ Snake to Avicii, the Mercury expansion takes inspiration in today’s greatest stadium-filling hits.

Our expansions ofer a unique multi-dimensional sound layering, exploiting all the depth of control that Touché puts in your hands. Each preset is carefully designed and finely adjusted to be sensitive to the slightest gesture. It lets you experience a genuine instrumental interaction with your music, shaping its texture intuitively.'

Expressive E says that the presets from the expansion were designed using the renowned UVI Falcon sound engine (which already powers the factory presets included with Lié), and all sounds are playable within UVI’s free sound player Workstation, included in Lié’s installer, or directly within UVI Falcon.

You can purchase the new Mercury Expansion on their website, with a retail price of 39,99€ / 39,99$ :
