4ms Spherical Wavetable Details & Pics

You can find demos of the 4ms Spherical Wavetable eurorack module in the archives here.

Priced at $599.00

"The Spherical Wavetable Navigator (SWN) is a six-channel synthesizer that makes it easy to create slowly morphing drones, polyphonic melodies, evolving sequences, and rich textures. The SWN features six wavetable oscillators with independent pitch, level, and waveform controls. Six LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators) can be used as modulation sources and/or envelopes, making it easy to add dynamic motion to your patch. Each channel is a full voice and can be “played” using the top row of buttons, the internal LFOs, or note-change detection on the 1V/oct jacks. The SWN ships with 12 three-dimensional (spherical) wavetables and an easy interface which allows you to record and edit custom wavetables from live audio. Open-source software for Mac, Windows, and Linux called SphereEdit can be freely downloaded and allows you computer to create, edit, and convert .wav files into Spherical wavetables to transfer into the SWN with an audio cable.

Six VCOs (Voltage Controlled Oscillators), each with independent 1V/oct pitch CV and waveform selection.

Twelve spherical wavetables, plus space for up 108 user-created wavetables.

Quickly record, apply effects, and save your own custom wavetables from live audio (or by using free SphereEdit software on a computer).

Six LFOs/envelopes, each with its own output jack and controls for speed, amplitude, phase, and shape.

E-RM Introduces multiclock - Ultra-Reliable Multi-Channel, Multi-Format Sync Box

"E-RM effectively solves studio and stage sync and timing troubles with multiclock multi-format sync box

BERLIN, GERMANY: professional audio synchronisation specialist E-RM Erfindungsbüro is proud to announce availability of multiclock — an ultra-reliable multi-channel, multi-format sync box that builds a musical bridge between DAWs and external (MIDI, DIN Sync/sync24, and analogue modular) musical gear like no other by converting clock signals for tight integration into digital production workflow without troublesome timing issues, as well as providing helpful and creative realtime shift and shuffle controls to independently compensate for sloppy slave machine delays and also add groove to each creative channel — as of August 12…

multiclock’s ‘mission impossible’ is to therefore act as a one-stop shop for creatively synchronising all kinds of musical equipment to a master DAW with the greatest of ease and, obviously, precision. Put simply, it is built to overcome all of the well-documented problems associated with achieving tight synchronisation of sequencers, drum machines, arpeggiators, and other external equipment with each other and also within the workflow of a DAW. Doing this is easier said than done from a technical standpoint, so how has E-RM Erfindungsbüro apparently achieved the impossible with something so small and simple to use, then?

The key to multiclock’s reliability and innovation is its ability to acquire a variety of sync signals from an Audio Sync track, as opposed to relying on a MIDI Clock signal. Synchronising multiclock to a master DAW relies on a sample-accurate audio clock stream, which, in turn, guarantees gloriously-tight clock signals to within ±1 sample of jitter — jitter being defined as the undesired deviation of a periodic signal from the ideal timing. To put that fanciful figure into its rightful context, consider that jitter here is as low as ±20 μs (microseconds) and that one microsecond is to one second as one second is to 11.574 days! Do the math. multiclock makes such superlative synchronisation possible by providing an audio INPUT (1/4-inch jack socket) to process a special sync track generated from the company’s downloadable multiclock AU/VST plug-in (for Mac OS X/Windows) namesake. Alternatively, another way of simply synchronising multiclock to a DAW is to load the special sync sample downloadable from the dedicated E-RM Erfindungsbüro webpage (http://www.e-rm.de/support/downloads.php). Whichever route discerning users choose to take, the result remains the same: seamless integration of all external devices with the host computer, courtesy of those celebrated clock signals. Simply said, this thing is tight to within a gnat’s whisker of perfection!

Perfect DAW synchronisation notwithstanding, when acting as a standalone master clock generator for hardware-only setups multiclock means business by coming into its own as a seriously creative tool. Tempo ranges between 30-300 BPM, while time signature settings can be changed from 3/8 to 32/8, so slave machines always start in sync with the downbeat of the next bar. But there’s more… multiclock can cleverly shift all four of its output clock channels — conveniently labelled as channel 01, channel 02, channel 03, and channel 04 — back and forth in realtime against each other and also relative to the master clock. Connectivity comes courtesy of four corresponding DIN sockets, fully configurable to transmit MIDI Clock (MIDI), DIN Sync/sync24 (DIN) or analogue clock (Analog) on each channel. channel 01 even comes complete with an additional 1/4-inch TRS output jack to provide an analogue LFO (LFO) with various waveforms and a 0-5V range, while modular synth connectivity is easily accomplished via any channel using an E-RM modular whip to convert DIN sockets to two mini jacks for clock and signal runs. Up to ±300 ms of Shift Range ensures easy compensation of sloppy slave machine delay and audio buffer latencies can be compensated for by setting a constant Offset calibration for each channel, conveniently leaving more than enough headroom to get into the groove, whether working with or without a DAW (since it is always necessary to compensate for the starting time lag of external equipment). Elsewhere, those shift and shuffle knobs can be configured to emit MIDI Control Change commands, should a user happen to have any unused clock channels available on their multiclock.

More to multiclock than might first meet the eye, surely? Says E-RM Erfindungsbüro CEO Maximilian Rest, “multiclock is not only a perfect synchronisation solution for live and studio applications, but you can also use it as an instrument in itself. If you get your hands on this machine, you can start playing with the phase of your sounds, effectively changing the timbre of layered tones or setting the groove between individual drum tracks.”

Time to get into the groove, then! To start shifting clocks and shuffling beats with multiclock — also available with an additional class-compliant USB MIDI module add-on to enable other MIDI commands to be sent from a DAW to external slave devices while still syncing to the sample-accurate audio clock stream — is a musical game-changing experience like no other. Why wait to hit that perfect beat?

multiclock is available to purchase for €449.00 EUR (Classic version) and €519.00 EUR (USB version) — including 19% VAT — via E-RM Erfindungsbüro’s expanding global network of retailers listed here: http://www.e-rm.de/shops/shops.php

NLogPoly Synth Pro To be Released Saturday

"TempoRubato is proud to announce the immediate release of NLogPoly Synth for Mac OSX. Availability in Mac App Store is scheduled for Saturday, May 21st.

With the release of NLogPoly Synth for Mac OSX including an Audio Unit version TempoRubato's virtual analogue synth technology - currently known from the iPad app NLogSynth PRO - is now available across both Apple's major platforms: Mac OSX and iOS.

Musicians, composers and producers now have a synth platform which allows them freely to move between mobile devices and their studio environment without any loss of quality. You can easily share all your patches made on iPad with NLogSynth PRO with NLogPoly Synth on Mac and vice versa.

NLogSynth has started on iOS devices recreating professional virtual analogue synthesis freshly from scratch to unveil the power of their specific hardware architecture. Based on 32 bit floating point processing NLogSynth utilizes advanced signal processing optimizations of Apple's A4 & A5 CPUs. After successfully running this new architectural approach for two years, we are now proud to provide the same algorithms on Mac's Intel architectures.

Thus, TempoRubato's NLogPoly Synth is bridging the gap between mobility and the studio.

NLogPoly Synth for Mac comes in currently two parts: A standalone app and an Audio Unit plug-in both supporting 32- & 64-bit environments. Depending on market response a VST version for Mac will be added later this year.

The standalone app is a multi-timbral engine providing the power of 8 polyphonic virtual analogue synths. Each with 4 OSC, 2 Filter, 4 LFOs, 4 Envelopes, Modulation Matrix and an individual Effect Rack with Reverb, 4 Band Parametric EQ, Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, Stereo Delay and Distortion. All 8 synths can be assigned to individual MIDI channels. With assigning them to the same MIDI channel NLogPoly Synth provides a polyphonic multi-layered synth with up to 8 layers.

The Audio Unit version is running in as many instances your hardware allows within your DAW. It provides the full set of more than 200 parameters of the NLogSynth engine for automation or remote control by external hardware controller. NLogPoly Synth for Audio Unit has been tested with the recent versions of major hosts like Apple's Logic Studio, GarageBand, MainStage, Ableton's Live, Native Instruments' Maschine or Renoise.

NLogPoly Synth can be downloaded from the Mac App Store as a standalone application for 19.99 EUR / 24.99 USD. Owners of the standalone app can further download the Audio Unit plug-in from http://www.temporubato.com/audiounit as a free extension in parallel with the standalone app release starting on May 21st.

TempoRubato is a synthesizer 'microbrewery' located in Frankfurt, Germany founded by Rolf Wöhrmann. We believe in the good life and doing things at work we really like to do for the pleasure, creativity and joy of our users. Direct MIDI for the iPad is Here

I was recently contacted by a representative of Line 6 asking if I wanted a MIDI Mobilizer for review. I am usually reluctant to do reviews because they take time, and considering the volume of content that comes in for the site, time is something I have very little of. I decided to accept for two reasons. One, the app it comes with, MIDI Memo, interested me as a back-up solution for my patches, and two, I was curious if the hardware could be used as a MIDI device for other software. The one thing missing for the iPad has been a direct MIDI interface. Yes you can use a Mac and OSC, but if you are limited on space, do not have a Mac, or you just want the convenience of using your iPad directly as a MIDI device, then you were sorely out of luck... until now.

Part 1: MIDI Mobilizer and MIDI Memo out of the box

Well sort of out of the box - you do have to download MIDI Memo from iTunes, but it is free and super simple. That said, the primary reason I wanted MIDI Mobilizer was for MIDI Memo. One of the major pain points for me has been backing up patches on my synths. Convenience is a HUGE deal to me as time is short. When I first started backing up my patches, I used a Little Brother MIDI recorder, followed by Sound Diver on the PC, followed by MIDI-OX and other utilities. The problem is it was always a pain setting up the system, moving and connecting synths, and transferring all your patches when upgrading systems. Sometimes things wouldn't work off the bat, for example software not recognizing the MIDI device because other software locked it up. You'd have to reboot and try again. Once you did save a patch, you'd have to create folders, etc. Big pain in the butt.

When MIDI Mobilizer was announced, I thought hmm... this might be super convenient. And it is. You just hook up the cables, hook in the device, launch the app, hit record and send your MIDI dump. When the dump is completed, click the stop button, give it a name and you are done. You can even email the dump to yourself or others. I now send my patches to my gmail account where I have a label for them. They are now backed up in the cloud. I no longer have to worry about transferring files from one computer to another and I know where to find them. This is great, but there is one major omission that may haunt me down the line. Currently you cannot load external MIDI recordings or dumps into the software. They do remain on your device, so as long as you are careful you should be good, but if you want to use the software to load your friend's patches or recordings directly, you can't. If you accidentally delete a recording and want to load it back, you'll have to use software on your PC or Mac to play back the file while you record it into MIDI Memo again. Also, there are no folders. All recordings end up on a long list in the Memos section of the app.

As MIDI Memo is a basic MIDI recorder, you can also record performances. This can be useful in quickly capturing riffs for later, but currently it is limited to just one track. You can't layer recordings like you can with more robust MIDI recorders. With the Little Brother MIDI recorder I could record a MIDI track, hit play and then record a new track on top of it. You can't do that here.

One thing I was a little concerned about was the hardware connection itself. As you can see, you plug the device directly into your iPhone, iPad or iTouch. What if I accidentally sat on it. :) My contact assured me it was durable but it is something that is on my mind when using the device. There is a super simple solution. I can get an extender cable which can be found pretty cheap online. One cool thing about the MIDI cables that come with MIDI Mobilizer is that they are long, I measured them at over 5 feet long - 64 inches to be exact. 1.6256 meters for those on the metric system.

There are also a few usability design quirks with the software, but nothing major. For example, once you have made a recording and are ready for the next, it would be cool if you could click on the name, edit it and then click on a New button for a new recording all on the main page. The way it works now is you can either just start a new recording which will append a number to the name of the current recording, or you click on Memos and click on a "+" button to start a new recording. If you are doing multiple recordings, having to flip through the info and memo pages to name and start new records can be a distraction. Again, this is minor and once you get used to it, it isn't that big of a deal.

Overall, for me, having a super convenient way to back up my synths is worth the entry price alone. Although it does not support multi-track recording, I can see the value in being able to record bits to later import and work with in my DAW.

Part 2: MIDI Mobilizer as a dedicated hardware MIDI device
This is where the true potential of this device comes in.
If you've been following my commentary on the iPad and slate devices in general, the holy grail in my opinion is the ability to use the iPad directly as a MIDI device. The ability to sync native apps with your hardware synths and the ability to use it as a direct MIDI controller would finally close the gap. Software on the iPad would become a robust hardware solution as self sufficiently dedicated as any other hardware device. You could interface it with your synths directly, it would be instantly on, and it would be super portable, even more-so than most other gear.

There are still limitations with the closed nature of the iPad and Apples's software development model, but at as of this moment it is now officially possible. I asked my contact if there would be an SDK for MIDI Mobilizer and not only did he say yes, but it is available now and developers are already working with it. Line 6 also just released MIDI Surface available on iTunes here [details captured at the end of this post below].

The following are a few more shots of MIDI Mobilizer, the cables, box shots and the MIDI Memo app.

SONAR V-Studio 100 Software Features

VS-100 Production Pack (Win/Mac) suite of effects and instruments includes:

VX-64 Vocal Strip is a seven-stage processor designed specifically for shaping and sculpting incredible sounding vocal tracks. Each of the VX-64's stages have been fine-tuned to be vocal-specific, taking the work out of dialing in an entire chain of vocal processors. The VX-64 features a new Cakewalk technology that employs phase-coherent, multi-band saturation to avoid unwanted distortion; unique filtering to avoid harsh artifacts at extreme high and low frequencies; and an auto-leveling circuit that prevents the tube saturation from sounding too harsh when high gain transients are processed by it. VX-64 also employs a new de-essing algorithm designed with Cakewalk's LP64 linear phase effect filtering technology to remove sibilance without creating any frequency smearing.

Processing stages include:

* Input — simulates a tube pre amp
* De-esser — removes sibilance without smearing
* Compander — vocal compressor with an expander to reduce unwanted background noise
* Tube EQ — for adding character ranging from subtle warmth to intense heat to the vocal
* Doubler — advanced doubling effect providing the quality of actual re-tracking
* Delay — preset delays useful for vocal tracks with tempo sync
* Output — provide saturation control with a built in soft-clipping filter
* Order of processor stages is user definable with click & drag reordering

Channel Tools — provides easy and powerful control over individual placement of the left and right channels anywhere in the stereo field. Ideal for adjusting L/R channel placement, gain, pan/width, and phase; also provides a widening or narrowing effect to stereo recordings through adjustments to mid-side gain.

Boost 11 Peak Limiter — gives your tracks radio-ready punch through transparent peak limiting and volume maximization without additional coloring of the source material. Boost 11 employs a "look-ahead" limiter and PDR (Program Dependent Release) to provide professional results with a simple interface.

Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3 LE — built on the latest award-winning guitar amp modeler from Native Instruments; 3 amps and cabinets, 11 effects, tuner, metronome, and over 50 presets.

Dimension LE — a streamlined version of the acclaimed Dimension Pro instrument from Cakewalk. Dimension LE features over 400 sound programs, ranging from bass, organ, and electric piano samples to cutting-edge synth sounds, rhythmic grooves, and a special edition of Garritan Pocket Orchestra.

Rapture LE — is a special version of the award winning Rapture wavetable synthesizer. It includes over 200 programs and hundreds of oscillator shapes. Rapture LE is perfect for performing the modern synthesized sounds igniting today's pop, dance, and electronic music.

Cakewalk Studio Instruments — a collection of four virtual instruments that provide a fast and easy way to create backing tracks using a photo-realistic, interactive user interface. Instruments include a Drum Kit, Bass Guitar, Electric Piano, and String Section.

SONAR VS digital recording software (PC only) — a special entry level DAW based on the powerful SONAR 8 audio engine but offering a streamlined user interface.

"Soundplant 42 Released - QWERTY Keyboard Software Sampler Used From Studios to Stadiums Gets Major Update On Mac & Windows

New York, NY - November 6, 2014 - Independent developer Marcel Blum has released Soundplant 42 for Windows and Mac, the first major update since 2010 of the popular computer keyboard sound triggering program following a yearlong beta. Soundplant turns the standard QWERTY keyboard into a playable instrument with ultra low latency, allowing the instant playback of any format sound files on 72 keyboard keys with no need for extra hardware.

Soundplant's cult following continues to expand the $50 software's diversity of uses. Hollywood engineer Ed Novick used it in his 2010 Academy Award-winning sound mixing on Inception as well as in The Dark Knight Rises, Moneyball, and other films. Surf rock band Man or Astro-Man? played their sci-fi samples with Soundplant; metal band Nile used it for exotic percussion. When the foley artists of NPR's A Prairie Home Companion aren't handmaking their sound effects, they turn to Soundplant for a digital assist. The NFL's Tennessee Titans used it at LP Field stadium. Soundplant even made it to Carnegie Hall, with new music champion Paul Pinto performing on the software for the 2014 premier of composer Erin Rogers' Mother Earth. Organizations like London's Drake Music taught disabled children to create music through Soundplant's intuitive simplicity, and artists, educators, and DIYers delighted kids and adults with Soundplant-powered installations like the 2013 New York Maker Faire Editor's Choice Award-winning xylophone drum pad Nazca Beats.

Soundplant, now in its 15th year, turns an input device you've been practicing on for as long as you've been typing into a versatile multitrack playback tool, providing hours of audio at your fingertips while avoiding the need for expensive dedicated hardware. New version 42 maintains its beloved rock-solid stability, low cost, straightforward drag-and-drop sound file assignment, and powerful flexibility as standalone software, while bringing new features such as 32-bit floating point mixing and 96 kHz output for audiophile accuracy, 256 channel polyphony for rich sound design, several new lightweight realtime effects, direct output recording, and finer key press and release control. You can continue triggering sounds while using any other program with Soundplant hidden, and launch an unlimited number of Soundplant instances allowing outputting to multiple sound devices, multitrack recording, and more banks of sounds. Soundplant works identically on Windows or Mac and keymaps can be transferred across computers with ease.

Availability and pricing
Soundplant is offered as a free download at http://soundplant.org/ which includes a 25-launch trial of the registered features. In unregistered mode it is free for non-commercial use with limitations on some professional features. The registered version (USD $50, or a $40 upgrade from v.39) allows expanded sound file format support, audio output device selection, higher quality output sample rates, recording, and background triggering."

"Subvert is a savage 3-channel distortion processor designed to decimate the frequency spectrum.

Based around 5 effects; multimode distortion, FM ring modulator, digitizer, metalizer and multimode filter, Subvert generates anything from subtle harmonics to relentlessly brutal distortions. Offering three parallel channels of each effects chain as well as a wealth of modulation and routing options, Subvert is our take on signal decimation with a twist.

Subvert’s multi-channel layout and per-effect bypass option make it possible to reconfigure the order of effects in each chain in a variety of creative ways. Between the unconventional routing options, 15 effects processors, global EQ, numerous modulation options and global randomizer, Subvert makes it possible to achieve mind-bending destructive effects.

While Subvert’s primary focus is on Distortion, it features four additional effects that can be configured in various ways across its three channels. Driving its core are 2 envelope followers and 4 LFOs with various wave shapes and optional tempo sync, which can have their output inverted or combined using up to 4 modulation mixers. The final output of the plugin can be sculpted with the global 3-band EQ.

With a multi-mode filter as the first processor in each chain, it is possible to set up multi-band effects patches where each channel is processing a different frequency range of the incoming signal. De-activating effects within a chain allows you to globally reconfigure the order of the processors, thereby giving you many options in setting up an assortment of parallel and serial processing patches.

Subatomic Software Updates "Audulus" for Mac and iPad to v2.1 –
Adds 5 new Nodes, JACK support on iPad

Subatomic Software has announced the release of Audulus 2.1 for iPad and Mac. This update to the modular music processing app adds support for JACK on iPad, as well as five new nodes for both iPad and Mac versions.

JACK for iOS is a free app that allows JACK-compatible apps such as Audulus to be connected in any way, with the only restriction being CPU power.

"JACK is a mature, powerful inter-app audio system," explains Audulus developer W. Taylor Holliday. "It's great to see it ported to iOS."

Audulus 2.1 introduces the Poly Pack, an In-App-Purchase upgrade consisting of four new nodes which facilitate stereo and quadraphonic processing of audio input. Audulus nodes can process multiple channels of audio.

"Previously, the only way to generate a polyphonic signal in Audulus was via the Keyboard node in Poly Mode," explains Holliday. "Now, you can do polyphonic processing of audio input. You can even use the QuadToMono node to apply separate processing chains to each voice of a synth."

"I'm not aware of another app on iOS that gives you this fine-grained control of multi-channel processing," adds Holliday.

Version 2.1 also adds a phasor node (not to be confused with the phaser effect), which outputs a phase angle suitable for driving custom oscillators.

Audulus development is user-driven, and these new features were requested by users on the Audulus forum.

Audulus for iPad is available on the App Store for $9.99, 30% off for the remainder of June to celebrate JACK support.

Audulus for Mac is available on the Mac App Store for $29.99

The Audulus Poly Pack In-App Purchase upgrade is priced at $4.99
