"Short jam of patching with the rare Dutch modular synth system that started out around 1974 within the STEIM Studio for Electro-Instrumental music.
Since 2022 Veerle (Elektortek) got her hands one this system, in total consisting out of 4 rows of "cassettes"/modules (34 total modules, 4x patch matrices). It needs quite some servicing and repair, but als a lot of cassettes survived the forces of time.
Since last year the system is based at Acid Solder Club Utrecht, Veerle's creative electronics/ DIY and synth workshop and experimental sound studio based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Together with a small team (herself, Rob vd Poel and Sybren Danz) we are searching for documentation, video materials, schematics and all kinds of doodled and sketched info, that most unfortunately, is lost in time.
We are currently also working on a digital archive with stories, patch ideas, a new service manual and repair blog.The process is slow, since a lot of information is lost and we are looking at similar circuits at the time, and digital and book references to help the build.

Designed in collaboration with John Snyder of Electronic Audio Experiments (EAE), the Chase Bliss Big Time is a true-stereo hybrid echo that revisits the mixed-up, unique circuitry found in rackmount delays from the early 1980s. In that era, advanced analog engineering was functionally used to prop up crude digital systems. The Big Time intentionally embraces and pushes this hybrid architecture to its absolute extremes.
This video showcases how the Big Time's interactive controls and dual stages of analog coloration transform incoming synthesizer signals:
• Stereo Analog Preamp (Color): Adds beautiful, warm saturation to the input stage, designed to handle a wide variety of instruments.
• Feedback Loop Limiter (State): An analog clipping limiter in the delay path that creates everything from smooth compression to crumbling, misbiased overdrive that slowly disintegrates your echoes.
• Cluster Slider: Blends in additional delay taps and diffusion, smudging and expanding the sound into rich ambient delights and multi-tap clusters inspired by vintage space station units.
• Scale & Motion: Controls creative transposition, Thermae-like musical sequencing, and stereo modulation (Sine, Square, Envelope).
Watch how the Big Time's motorized faders react and seamlessly transition through different delay modes—from tight modulations (3-46ms) to Short (46-736ms) and Long delays, across HiFi, Focus, Warm, and Analog voicings.
Providing the core audio tracking is the Modal Element One. Its 8-voice virtual analog engine, morphable filters, and rich stereo waveforms offer the perfect high-quality sonic canvas to test the Big Time's true-stereo capabilities, input saturation, and analog dry-thru.
🎧 Headphones or studio monitors are highly recommended to capture the full true-stereo imaging and analog character of the pedal.

"To demonstrate the character of the Glowing Orb stereo state variable filter a series of filter sweeps were recorded. The audio passed from the Glowing Orb, through a SideCar VCA, Instruo Cuir output module and then to a Sound Devices MixPre 6 field recorder. No additional audio processing has been carried out apart from level adjustment."
"Glowing Orb is a new vintage-voiced, Stereo State Variable Filter from WORNG Electronics. It takes the SSI2140 filter core (based on the SSM2040 filter which gives the Prophet 5 Rev 2 its big and beefy sound) and configures it in a -12dB/oct SVF circuit based on the Oberheim SEM design, combining characteristics of two of the best loved, best sounding vintage filters in a unique combination. Of course a module from WORNG Electronics has to include 21st century features like stereo operation, volt per octave tracking and a gain compensated drive circuit which enables an extraordinarily wide tonal palette.
At 10hp, Glowing Orb is perfect for any sized system large or small, and packs in just the controls you need to keep things compact while still being incredibly usable, with space around the controls designed for human fingers.
The module features stereo input, with normalling for mono to stereo operation if only the left input is patched. The stereo output switches between sweepable Low Pass/Notch/High Pass, and Band Pass filter slopes, on a single output pair to simplify patching.

"Here we have - except for the three songs that YouTube has 'flagged up' for removal - the notoriously bad-tempered 'Saturday Live' set that was the legendary New Order's contribution to the BBC's 'Rock Around The Clock' music-marathon of pop videos, live performances and documentaries. Some of the day's programming - notably, this New Order performance from the bowels of Broadcasting House - was simulcasted on the BBC's Radio 1/2 network, as there was no stereo TV in the UK back then. This historic programme (New Order's "live radio debut on the telly", according to BBC presenter Richard Skinner) surfaced on an old V2000 tape that was being chucked out (together with the video recorder it was in). V2000 was an unusual (but at the time, technically-advanced) European home-video format, intended to compete with VHS and Betamax. Developed by Philips and Grundig, the now-forgotten V2000 had some cool features - like 'flip over' recording, and noise-free 'trick' playback. Don't laugh - this was a big deal in the early-mid 1980s! The recording was alas in a very poor state - machine (which needed to be repaired) and tape alike had evidently not been stored carefully. I have cleaned up the visuals as best I can - and the result is not bad, considering that the source material is over 40 years old! Better still, I had the cassette recording of the stereo FM broadcast I made at the time - which I have managed to synchronise to the video. I have it on good authority that the result is superior to what the BBC holds in its archives (allegedly a ropey off-air VHS copy, with hissy mono sound).
