1. Farfisa Soundmaker – strings + piano + saxophone with aftertouch
Just a simple quick sound demo. The Farfisa Soundmaker is an Italian divider-based combo synthesizer released in 1979. It consists of three distinct synths, a monophonic synth, a polyphonic divider synth and a string synth. The monophonic synth is based on an M110 keyboard scanner/oscillator and a ca3080-based lowpass filter. The keyboard has a channel aftertouch that can be routed to LFO (Oscillator), mono brilliance, mono glide and brass brilliance.
Mono sounds are very delicate and expressive. Strings sound glorious.

"With this 500 series stereo channelstrip, featuring the WesAudio Rhea tube compressor, I’ve got a great sounding chain for recording my modular synth, needing no additional plugins to finalize the sound.
The Hermod+ is sequencing modules by Vostok, with a zlosynth Kaseta adding tape saturation/delay on one of the voices. Then into the Weston Audio mixer, Strymon Starlab adding reverb, and the right output channel goes through the Echo Fix EF-X3 before it hits the 500 series chain."
Kaseta is a multi-purpose module inspired by reel-to-reel tape machines. It simulates magnetic hysteresis to provide warm saturation, its four independent delay lines can be used to sculpt rhythms or feedback loops, and it offers wow and flutter control. The module also goes beyond typical tape machine features, with free-moving delays, trigger sequencing, and an internal oscillator.

"The Yamaha PSS-11 is a small keyboard from 1992 with an AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) tone generator, as Yamaha tried to put more realistic sounds based on samples into their home keyboard range, seen as a step up from the FM sound chips that had dominated the PSS range in the second half of the 90s.
The PSS-11 has only 39 basic sounds, including percussion. The rest of the 100 voices on offer are variations of the other 39, including layered dual voice, split keyboard, extra sustain, harmony (changing harmony in step with the auto accompaniment), and echo (a rudimentary delay effect that changes delay time in step with the tempo).

Early analog synthesizers were a mystery to most working musicians. In 1972, ARP Instruments released the Pro Soloist, one of the first commercially successful preset-based synthesizers. Pro Soloist featured a revolutionary electronic design and feature set, most notably its innovative "touch sensor" keyboard (now commonly known as aftertouch), where pressing a note harder introduces changes to the sound, allowing highly expressive playing. The Pro Soloist was a hit with acts as varied as Tangerine Dream, Gary Numan, Herbie Hancock, Styx, Prince, Parliament, and Vangelis. Perhaps best remembered was Tony Banks, who amplified the Pro Soloist's legendary presets in epic keyboard solos for the legendary band Genesis.
Cherry Audio has received countless requests to reproduce this oft-forgotten gem — one of those came from frequent collaborator Mark Barton (GX-80, Novachord + Solovox, Miniverse, and others). With unparalleled attention to detail, Mark has created an authentic reproduction of the analog signal path along with the 30 original presets, and together we have substantially expanded the Pro Soloist's capabilities. Cherry Audio has added a dual-layer voicing architecture, with 16 polyphonic voices per layer, that enables two different presets simultaneously, with independent panning for rich stereo timbres and complex sounds. Although Maximus can do traditional ‘pads’ it’s better suited to more unorthodox poly sounds. It excels also at unusual analogue loops and rhythms when it is played in cyclic mode. Have each voice set to a different type of sounds, and as you cycle through them you get very interesting patterns (melodic or otherwise).
Maximus does not have patch memory - just like the very first polysynths.
Every sound you create will be unique - the first of its kind ever to be produced. Your Maximus will never sound like anybody else’s. It will always be unique and yours.

Although we label this as a polysynth - it is so much more. We can’t think of a label to give this synth since its is so much more than that.
When you think of polysynth you think of flat synths with one set of controls that control all voices equally. By giving Maximus independent controls for every voice, you have more freedom to create unique styles of poly sounds impossible on traditional polysynths, whether they are hardware or software. You can dial up ‘traditional’ poly sounds (pads etc) or have something unimaginable different.
Because you can never dial up each voice completely identically, standard polys pads will sounds superbly vintage.
All the voice and modulation circuits are of course 100% analogue. We purposely steered away from digital, aside from of course the digital needed in MIDI and the mini-sequencers.
This synth is purely for those who want it just as it was in the 1970s - but new with parts still in production. For those who want a synth that could have been built in the 70s.
There are no gimmicks - this is pure synthesiser. A huge sound enclosed in a solid metal case wrapped in solid hardwood. No expense has been spared to bring this incredible machine to life.

The Breakaway 1000 is a voice controlled music synthesizer. You hum into a microphone and it comes out as any synth sound you choose. It has 28 voices to choose from. The best thing is that it is also an Analog-to-MIDI converter. You can plug a 1/4" jack into it (guitar, say) and use the MIDI OUT jack to trigger any other MIDI instrument from your guitar, voice, keyboard, or what-have-you! The Breakaway also has 5-track digital recording capabilities with a memory of over 1000 notes, along with built-in drum machine and bass accompaniment. Breakaway Vocalizer 1000 was released in 1988, (licensed to Breakaway by the Eltrex Corp.) and sold thru the Sharper Image Catalog, Montgomery Ward stores, and distributed by Tascam. It's notoriety has climbed in recent years as emerging electronic musicians clamored for a means to generate MIDI sounds using only their voice. "In this video I clean the keyboard circuitboard, resolder broken solder joints, replace broken contact springs, and clean and lubricate the bus bars and springs. I have to final videos after this outlining the Pratt Read keyboard restoration. Then, we'll get into restoring the case!"
"In this video I repaint the keyboard base. I did 3 coats of primer, 3 coats of black paint, and 3 coats of clear coat! I only showed two coats for brevity.
I used Rustoleum primer, Rustoleum Satin Enamel black paint, and Rustoleum Satin Enamel Clearcoat.
It comes out great, and I think it'll last another 50 years. I also cut out new felt pads to go into the keyboard base."

Kick, snare, and hi hat from a Vermona DRM1 Mark III. One of the DRM1's 'Drum' voices also created the 'woo-woo-woo' sound that comes in at about the 3-minute mark.
The stern, crunchy stabs are from an Arturia Minibrute running through a Boss XT-2 Xtortion pedal.
The warm pad that kicks off the track and then begins to pulse rhythmically comes from a Prophet 600 going through Arturia's 'Filter Mini' plugin, with the step sequencer modulating the cutoff frequency.
The house-y vamp, bassline, sine wave synth, and various other stabs and bleats are all from Korg's Minilogue.
