MakeProAudio X - DinoPark Mobile EX (Synth Engine Play-through)

video upload by NOISEBUG

"Here is a walkthrough of all the DinoPark synth engines with some of our favorite patches. In the video we see the DinoPark Mobile EX though these synth engines are common to DinoPark Eurorack, DinoPark Mobile and DinoPark Mobile EX."

Note the synth engines are from the Creamware SCOPE Platform, also found in the Use Audio Plugiator. DinoPark is also available as a eurorack model. You can find additional posts here.

via Noisebug

"DINODIALS - ADD MORE KNOBS AND A SNAPSHOT FEATURE!
DinoDials are an optional expansion for DinoPark mobile (and mobile EX) devices and can be slided into the rails on the top of the unit. DinoDials come in two sizes - with either 8 or 12 touch-sensitive and freely assignable encoders! The display of the DinoPark will show the name of the parameter already when you slightly touch a knob - that makes “remebering” parameters real easy. Your favourite parameters in direct reach - great for your performance!

Another great performance feature is the Snapshot functionality which the DinoDial makes available! The encoders have a push switch function. A long push will store whatever sound is currently heard for later recall. Then, when playing live, a quick push of an encoder will recall the model/sound combination in a fraction of a second! and DinoPark does it in a fraction of a second. You can save as many different Snapshots as there are knobs - so 8 for the DinoDials 8 and 12 for the larger DinoDials variant!

THE SECRET BEHIND THE SOUND
There are specialized synthesizers that give you great results within their limited scope of specialization. Then there are versatile synthesizers that cover a large sonic spectrum using a sample-playback engine. And then there is DinoPark.

Nothing quite compares to its coupling of modular software technology and dedicated uber powerful Analog Devices SHARC DSP processor to do the sonic math. It’s this unprecedented technology pairing that puts DinoPark - and its CreamWare predecessors like Noah and the ASB units - in a class all by itself and how it can emulate such a variety of synthesizers and synthesis forms, in the most minute detail. DinoPark is a multi- specialist that can load - and perform as responsive hardware - very different synthesis specialization, thus being able to cover a very large sonic spectrum while delivering superior sound quality, like only specialized synthesizers can.

Artisan Electronic Instruments Nucleus Kickstarter Promo

video upload by Mike @ Artisan

Soon On Kickstarter

$770 Eurorack
$880 Desktop

You can find additonal posts featuring the Nucleus here.

via Artisan Electronic Instruments

"Not Old, Not Borrowed, Not Blue...But New
In this day when it seems like so many are just resurrecting the past, we, at Artisan Electronic Instruments think art and technology have moved forward. And we want to bring something new into the world of synthesis. NUCLEUS is a unique and powerful monophonic Synthesizer that combines the sound design of East and West Coast ideas, blends Analog and Digital technologies, and packs a vast sound palette into an intuitive user aesthetic.

Don’t be fooled by its compact size. The NUCLEUS is anything but a classic remake or just a “more of the same” Synthesizer. There is a lot of sonic synthesis power hidden behind that 60hp panel, an extraordinary amount for such a small instrument.

A Beast Of Raw Sonic Power
Nucleus fills any harmonic space with its complex 3 Oscillator block. Its analog and digital circuits churn out some serious walls of sound. This little machine ROARS!

Oscillator 1 is based on an analog discrete Saw-core circuit providing those classic Saw, Triangle, and variable pulse/PWM waveforms. Tied into it is a modulate-able 4 stage wavefolder for awesome metallic tones. The Sub-Oscillator has its own variable filter producing smooth pounding sine waves or all the way through a rich square.

Oscillator 2 is also a fully discrete analog design with Saw, Variable Pulse/PWM, and PWM with Sub-Octave. But that’s just the start. It also has a selectable 2 or 3 stage Digital Ring Modulator. The DRM combines the waveforms of all three Oscillators for some amazing tones heard nowhere else. If that were not enough, Oscillator 2 can Hard-Sync to a separately controlled digital 4th oscillator. Wait, there's more, when not in Hard Sync, it can be Frequency Modulated by Oscillator 3 through a dedicated VCA controlling the FM depth in real-time.

Oscillator 3 is digital, why? To provide those unique sounds only found in the digital world. It still provides some clean anti-aliased standard shapes, like Sine and PWM but adds a few tricks, such as a variable slope Saw to Triangle wave, an adjustable width Swarm wave, and String tones using the Karplus-Strong physical model. There are ten slots for custom waveforms and a noise source. Oscillator 3 also has a bit-crusher/sample reducer effect to get into some dirty digital color.

And you can modulation just about anything! From pitch, wave-shape, and mix levels and the oscillator “special effects” of sub-shape, hard-sync frequency, FM depth, and bit crusher strength.

Character and More Character
There is so much to NUCLEUS before ever reaching the filter. But that bad boy does not want to be outdone. It is awesome in its own right. First off it offers a unique cascade multi-mode design. The filter runs in 2 pole Low Pass, Bandpass, and High Pass modes, as well as 4 pole versions of each. It’s the Dual-path Regeneration and 8-pole design that really give a unique character to the Bandpass modes, providing variable and modulate-able bandwidth and dual peak resonance. Since the filter can track over a wide range you can “play” these peaks and get a 5-oscillator sound or chord!

The filter has modulation inputs for cutoff, resonance, and filter shape. And after all that, the asymmetrical soft clipping circuits can bring in some much loved “dirt”. Just crank that Overdrive knob. Band Pass Close Up.jpg

Modulation Mania Until You Drop
With all this sonic power, the Artisan NUCLEUS Synthesizer controls it all with an deep and powerful modulation matrix. There are 50+ modulation sources and 30+ destinations that all available simultaneously. An impressive amount for such a compact mono synth. There are 4 six-stage Envelope Generators (delay, attack, hold, decay, sustain, release), with looping, linear, and expo shapes and time and sustain modulation. 3 LFOs provide 9 waveshapes, key-sync, delay, and rate modulation. 2 external CVs and 4 modulation paths from the keyboard to add more real-time modulation control. And now it gets wild. You can take those modulations sources and Add, Multiply, Average, Lag, Quantize, Switch, Sync knobs, contour, and route MIDI CC to create new modulation effects. A modulation engine that has far more on offer than a classic mono synth."

Knobula Poly Cinematic - first play

video upload by Molten Music Technology

"Only scratching the surface of this amazing polyphonic module from Knobula. The Poly Cinematic is a very cool polysynth wrapped up in a compact Eurorack module. Much more to come! This was literally my first, pre-manual reading, mess about and I already love it!

This is a pre-production module sent to me by Knobula."

Update:

Knobula Poly Cinematic not quite review

"Introducing Poly Cinematic. The powerful compact synthesiser that brings big synth polyphony to Eurorack. It's simple to use with a dedicated knob or switch for each parameter, giving you immediate access to all the controls that really matter in the world of polyphonic pads and stabs. No presets, no menus, just a good honest tactile experience that puts pure sound synthesis at your fingertips.

Poly Cinematic can be played via midi as well monophonically over CV/Gate. As a monophonic module it can play one of 8 chord stacks, selectable using CV control, so it is as much a 56 oscillator mono synth as it is a luscious poly synth.

Here is a list of main features:
7 oscillator supersaw per voice
3 oscillator syncable wave shaped square/pulse
3 oscillator detuned tonewheel organ
8 chord memory controlled by cv/gate
Detune control with unison/5th/sub octave sweet spots
3 filter types: lowpass, notch and highpass
Built in high quality reverb"

Studio Electronics Eurorack Modules

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via NOISEBUG Reverb

Note auction links are affiliate links. See the site's privacy policy for more info.

"What's nice about our OSCILLATION stunner (according to Tim) "is that the waveforms are DC-coupled [components connected directly together without any coupling capacitors], so they keep their shape even at sub-Hz speeds. The outputs are also buffered, so the amplitude is independent of the load they are driving. The waveform levels on some modern eurorack OSCs are often all different, and they vary depending if they go into the mixer or directly to the filter!" Coupling the circuitry without capacitors in-line gives the go-ahead for the full spectrum of frequencies to do their thing, and ensures near identical response over the years—audiophile, transistor-protecting signal path stuff here. You should see these beauts on the scope: a Class-A ballet of balance and proportion, only drawing modest current, rather evenly from plus and minus."

Jomox XBase 888 Analog Drum Synthesizer SN 2008-0146

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

You can find a demo of one here.

"This a Rare Analog Drum Synthesizer with the following description:

There are several notable new features on the XBASE 888:

The kick drum and the tom toms now each have an adjustable pitch envelope and sound even phatter than before! The analog noise parameter of the snare and hi hat can be “metal-ized” to create sounds extremely similar to vintage drum machines and is fully adjustable!

And, because it has no X-Filter, the XBASE 888 is more affordable than the 999. But it still has an unbeatable sound, this little beauty!

· 9 Instruments

Bass Drum, Snare Drum, Lo Tom, Hi Tom, Hi Hat, Clap, Rim, Crash and Ride. All instruments are polyphonically playable and have individual outs. The bass drum, snare drum, lo tom and high tom are true analog circuits, and for the remainder of the sounds, the XBASE 888 uses short 8-bit samples, each routed through an analog envelope. The sample flash ROM contains 31 samples per instrument, so there's a total of 186 samples (The Hi Hat section contains 2 separate samples for Closed and Open HH).

· Real analog sound production

The BD, SD, LT and HT use true analog circuits with full digital control, which allows the storage of presets and full midi control of all parameters. To keep the analog circuitry as pristine as possible, all D/A converters are specially designed for and integrated into the circuits with proven XBASE/AirBase technology.

Soundtoys Little PrimalTap - Further Out

Note these videos are from 2014, but I haven't posted them before and Soundtoys is currently having an up to 80% off sale. Click through for details.

P.S. You can find additional posts from various users featuring Soundtoys here.

Some details on the Little PrimalTap, also see the fuller blown PrimalTap.

"Unique retro delay lets you echo, loop, warp, distort and mangle.

Inspired by the classic Prime Time* from 1978, Little PrimalTap captures the highly distinctive sonic imprint of this quirky, and well-loved (by those in the know) vintage digital delay. Don’t be fooled by its simple interface, Little PrimalTap lets you unleash your creative urges to echo, loop, warp, distort, mangle, or create cacophonous cascades of otherworldly sounds.

The Primal Sound

The Prime Time was used by a wide variety of artists back in the 80’s for rich guitar delay, chorus, flange and such, and it did a great job with those things. But the really unique character of its sound came from one of its limitations.

In an attempt to get more out of the technology (and probably stay under budget) it had a feature called Multiply that halved the sample rate each time the delay time was doubled. Sound weird? It does indeed. And it’s just the kind of weird that we love.

Twist And Shout

On this little beast, turning knobs is where it’s at, and that’s how to reveal all the oddities it can create. The Multiply knob supplies extra delay time that has drastic tonal changes with each increase. The Adjust knob creates pitch shift, chorus, or flange when moved. The Feedback and Input drive tie it all together to allow for sounds just not found on any of the “normal” delay plug-ins.

Feedback Loop

Yes, the Feedback can go infinite, and do everything from classic delay style looping to old school sci-fi space noise. Oh, and we doubled the massive 256 milliseconds of delay time from the original (128 if you had the non-expanded one) to 512 milliseconds, so you’ve got some serious looping power if you need it. It’s ok to let it get out of control, unlike the old days where you could blow your speakers (or your ears) if you didn’t stay on top of the feedback. Little PrimalTap lets you use it as another layer of sonic color, and even opens the door for synth-like sounds.

PrimalTap

Want even more creative tweakability? Check out the deluxe version, PrimalTap. You’ll get that same quirky PrimalTap sound with two independent delay lines, an LFO for automated pitch shifting, a menu of different delay algorithms, and the awesome Freeze effect. Arcaico Warhorse modular vcf delay distortion

video by Arcaico Instruments

"WARHORSE is the analogue multi-effect made in collaboration with the Italian underground techno label SCUDERIA.

Available in limited edition eurorack module or in pedal format.

Assembled in THT technology with passive welded “point-to-point” components, composed of VCA, VCF, distortion and delay all connected internally.

The input section features an integrated VCA with the addition of a distortion circuit.

The VCF section is inspired by Wasp multi-mode filter (LP-BP-HP-Notch): the two inputs allow to control the frequency with positive and negative voltages.

The DELAY section is a digital/analogue hybrid that reproduces the classic vintage BBD/Echo tape delay.
The delay time range goes from 0.05ms to 1.1sec.

The CV control of the delay time gives the possibility to create unpredictable repetitions, while the loop on/off button loops the last repetition. The feedback is characterized by a control knob that gives the possibility to darken or lighten the repetitions.

The WARHORSE pedal version is self powered and includes an extra bypass button plus additional in/out jack connections to interface it with external instruments or integrate it in your pedal setup."

Anachronistic

video by Mike Olson

"This is an electronic music composition which was created in 2018 using a vintage Polyfusion analog modular synthesizer. It is the first piece I’ve created using this particular instrument and I chose to restrict myself to using it exclusively as my only sound source for the piece. The title is in reference to the fact that I am choosing to use “antiquated” technology in this piece, (and all of my other recent electronic music compositions for that matter). I guess you could say that at this time in my life, I feel like I myself am something of an anachronism, in as much as I have spent years developing a set of skills that are no longer needed or valued, (except by special people who have an appreciation for them). Likewise, this Polyfusion synthesizer would be considered anachronistic by the vast majority of sensible electronic music composers. Perhaps that is part of what makes it attractive to me.

Aesthetically, this piece is a little on the dark side, (though not particularly lugubrious). It exhibits characteristics that could fall under such headings as “experimental drone” and “pattern-based minimalism”, over which sometimes ecstatic gestural outbursts emerge. Like much of my recent work, I am striving for a sense of restraint, which I am only partially successful in achieving. This ties in with the idea of limitations, which I am also very interested in. I begin every new composition by establishing meaningful limitations to work within. For this piece my limitations were that the piece must be all electronic and use only the Polyfusion as it’s sound source. This has resulted in a finished piece which unabashedly celebrates the sound of electronics and the sound of the Polyfusion modular synthesizer in particular. There is nothing in this piece which is trying to sound like an acoustic instrument of any kind. It is electronic and it sounds electronic. The only acoustic sound is the sound of the switch at the very beginning of the piece. This is literally the power switch for the Polyfusion being thrown. The hum which follows is the actual hum of the Polyfusion’s power supply. I mic-ed it and recorded the sound of that hum. Though this is not an audio signal being produced by the instrument, it is an audible hum which is in fact being generated by it. So it could be said that the piece starts with the physical sounds of the electronics, and then transforms into a sonic world that those electronic components produce as audio signals.

As is evident in the previous paragraph, the aesthetics of this piece tend to get tied up with the technology employed. So, let’s get into it. Without getting into the specifics of the modular synthesizer patching, the audio signal flow goes as follows: audio out from a VCA (voltage-controlled amplifier) on the Polyfusion, to a rehoused Big Muff distortion box, then to a standalone Moog ring modulator, then to a Vox wah pedal, and then finally on to a mixing console, through which the audio is recorded to a computer. Additional signal processing was freely added in the computer as the piece was being constructed. The Polyfusion was triggered (or played) through the use of a Future Retro pressure plate keyboard for the human performance gestures and a Dot Com Q960 sequencer and Doepfer A-155 sequencer for the quick-tempo patterns.

In addition to the keyboard and sequencers, there is another notable performance interface that is heavily featured in this piece: Knobs. As I listen to the piece, I can really hear the sounds being shaped in real time by the physical manipulation of knobs. These are of course, actual hardware knobs on the various devices, not automated software knobs. I didn’t really set out to make this a significant feature of the piece, but now that it’s done, I can clearly hear the knob-centricity of it. I find this interesting and very much in keeping with the hardware-based electronic character of the piece.

I feel I must now confess that there is also one audio signal sound in this piece that is not being generated by the Polyfusion, but which I chose to allow, even though I was breaking my limitation rule. This would be the ground hum sound of the Big Muff when it’s sustain knob is turned all the way up and no audio signal is coming into the device. I recorded a nice big chunk of this sound while very gradually adjusting the tone knob on the device. It is one layer in the complex of drones used in the first section of the piece. I see this sound as a kind of bridging sound between the acoustical buzzing sound of the Polyfusion power supply and buzzy analog synthesizer sounds that exist as audio signals within the wires."

"Unique synthesizer / Sequencer. This is an incredible piece of Musical Technology. It's call the Lorre-Mill Double Knot V2. Comes with 7 Banana Cables (good quality ones too), Original Box, Power Adapter, Printed Manual & Unit. Start using right out of the box. If you never owned one of these before, then your in for a Sonic Shock as you Patch & tweak the 2 Sequencers on board.

You may be asking what is this?

Well the Double Knot is a Semi-Modular synthesizer/Sequencer & is a collection of some analog blocks and simple digital logic blocks to construct Electronic sound patterns. The interface is made up of knobs, switches, and banana plugs for patching. Inside the Double Knot synthesizer there are two voices.

Each voice consists of a Triangle/Square wave oscillator, a shift register sequencer, an enveloper and a voltage controlled amplifier. To set the tempo of the shift registers there is a clock. Functional blocks associated with the clock are an XOR gate and a binary counter. One of the aims of this design is to provide the most flexibility while still having some shape to the piece. The envelopers are triggered by the shift registers unless the trigger inputs are used. The triangle outputs of the oscillators are fed to voltage controlled amplifiers. This makes the Double Knot semi-modular. This system can be used to make complex textural sounds and FM Drones, or Techno Drums at Polyrhythmic Intervals.

This is the V2 version which has enhanced and newer features such as newer enveloper design with mode switch to set trigger mode, loop mode or off. wide range cv input can nearly halt envelope mid-decay for sample/hold type output. trigger input in lieu of the fill input from the previous model.

The shift registers on this unit are CD4015 with 4 bit R2R DAC on the first four stages and logic outputs on the last four stages

Also to add to the percussive effect we can shape the envelopers by feeding the outputs back to the CV inputs and then tweaking the knobs to get the shape to a more dramatic slope. ● Lengthen the decay by turning the decay knob counter-clockwise and add positive modulation by turning the CV level knob clockwise. Now you are bouncing.

One amazing Feature on this unit is the FM Modulation. The FM section allows easy modulation of one oscillator to the other or both at the same time. with a knob for FM amount, a CV in jack that allows control of FM index and a toggle switch to set the modulation routing

This is indeed an amazing piece of Technology. I truly enjoyed this and will miss it a lot. I have a few Youtube Videos so feel free to browse my more recent Videos. just go to youtube and type in the search engine rhampton1914 and my latest is there. An open box Video is on this link."
