"ARP Quadra 1986 cassette jams. Edit and remix of an old cassette tape of me trying out different ideas with my ARP Quadra. Mostly recorded directly into a Toshiba cassette deck, except when reverb is heard. The reverb recordings are made with the Quadra going through a solid state MultiVox 1X12 combo using the spring reverb through the headphone output. This old recording was edited in Logic Pro and processed in iZotope RX."

Dive into the enthralling world of synthesizers and witness O Z Hall's outstanding entry, "Zebra Synth", in the Synthesizers.com Composition Contest. Crafted with unparalleled precision and technique, this remarkable composition combines an array of captivating sounds that will take you on a breathtaking sonic journey.

Hall masterfully utilizes three distinctive patches in "Zebra Synth" to create an immersive soundscape. The first patch features a drone made using a Q106A oscillator, which is meticulously processed by a wave folder. Another oscillator, intertwined with linear FM from the wavefolder output, results in a fascinating "clang tone" that is beautifully amplified by a digital reverb.

In the second patch, a sequenced voice is artfully produced by employing two re-paneled Q106 oscillators. One output is channeled into the input of the linear FM, which subsequently provides intriguing timbral variations. The Q119A sequencer's 3rd row masterfully controls a Ratchet effect, adding even further depth to the composition. An expertly-applied digital delay effect enriches the output of this patch.

Lastly, the lead voice is ingeniously designed using the Q169 Dual Oscillator with Pulse Width modulation. O Z Hall skillfully manipulates the 24db/oct low pass filter in real-time to deliver an electrifying performance. The extended digital delay effect ties the entire sonic experience together.
O Z Hall's "Zebra Synth" draws its arsenal of modular synthesis tools from the Synthesizers.com catalog, including Q106, Q106A, Q119A, Q171, Q148, Q127, Q169, Q168, Q167, Q114, Q174, and Q175A modules. Some of these presets feature 'Formant Sequences' which were a huge selling point for this instrument enabling the creation of human vocal timbres as well as other more experimental sounds. All of the examples here feature MIDI CC of parameters. Most of the sequencing was done with Five12 Numerology. Some of the drum sounds were just factory presets. All effects are from the fs1r built in effects. Recorded into Logic. Enjoy!

"Indigo Ranch was an American recording and mixing facility located in Malibu, CA, founded in 1974 by Richard Kaplan and Mike Pinder, who sold his share of the studio a few years later to Kaplan and Michael Hoffman the studio's business manager, that passed away in 1990. In the first two decades of the studio existence it had an eclectic mix of artists recording there such as Neil Diamond, Olivia Newton-John, Megadeth, and Neil Young, in the mid-nineties Ross Robinson, then young music producer, began recording there and the studio became the epicentre of the genre later dubbed "Nu Metal", with groups such as Korn, Soulfly, Slipknot, and Limp Bizkit recording their debut albums there, Robinson stopped recording there in the beginning of the new millennium and the studio then fell on hard times, Kaplan sold the studio in 2005 and in 2007 the facility was caught by the wildfires that occurred in the region and burned to the ground.

Some of the engineers that worked there where Bart Johnson, Chris Brunt, Chuck Johnson, Rob Agnello, Kevin Bosley and Zak Girdis."
