"vintage synth demo by RetroSound

Roland JX-8P Analog Synthesizer (1985) + JX Programmer PG-800
the demo shows the different sound settings (DCO`s, VCF, Sync, X-Mod) and some factory and self-made retro sounds

For me one of the most underrated vintage analog synths ever. The sound is fantastic and with the programmer PG-800 the pure synth heaven."

Factory track. Some of you might remember this one.

"Waldorf Q+ Phoenix Edition Synthesizer @ Production Room Leeds UK

The Waldorf Q+ Phoenix Synthesizer remains the standard for virtual modeled analog synthesizers.

There are up to 100 voices offering up to 5 oscillators including wavetable generators, 3 LFOs, 4 envelopes and 2 filters with a sophisticated routing method and all filter types that you expect from a Waldorf synthesizer. Furthermore, the Waldorf Q+ Phoenix Synthesizer offers unique Comb filter types in two flavours. This enables the Q not only to create polyphonic Chorus or Flanger effects but previously unheard athmos or pluck sounds with great life."

1/4" Modular Synthesizer Cables

YouTube via djthomaswhite. speakerrepair.com cables on Ebay
"Got these great cables with copper conductor wire from www.speakerrepair.com in Orange County. They come bundled 6 in a bag for $30. Each cable is a different color (red, green, yellow, purple, orange, blue) and has a TS (Tip-Sleeve) connector on it. The connector are NOT switchcraft but are high quality and have a nice solid feel to them for clone connectors. Cables are available direct from the website or from eBay as they have a GLS Audio store. These cables also come in balanced (TRS = Tip-Ring-Sleeve) for the same price, or you can get them for cheaper bundles in 2 or 3 foot lengths. No strain relief though on the normal cables. Speakerepair.com also has great dela on XLR, RCA and other cables (including nice quality insert cables so you son't have to mess with Hosa). Check them out. I live a few miles away and am glad not to have to build my own cables anymore."

MFOS Multi-Function Module

YouTube via theraywilsonshow
"Hi this is the same video as the previous one with a couple of minor tweaks where I noticed I forgot to do transitions between clips and stuff nothing major. If you already saw the previous one there is nothing new. This video demonstrates the functionality of the MFOS Multi-Function Module (MFM). It has a linear lag processor, an RC lag processor, two 3 input DC voltage mixers with bias control and normal and inverted outputs and lastly a voltage meter with +/-1V, +/-5V, +/-10V ranges. It's a "Swiss Army Knife" module and you can use all or part of it in your application."

Crumar BIT ONE Vintage Synth

via this auction
"This is a rare Italian synth. There were 2 production runs of the Bit ONE, the early models used identical filters as the Prophet 5 (SSM2044), and this is one of those models. Sounds much better than the later CEM chip models. The serial number is #00027 so it was one of the first few made. Not only does this use the Prophet 5 filters but every other model of Crumar synth past this one (which includes all rack versions, etc) all use CEM chips, so this is definitely the one you want."

M-Z3R0 - circuit bent - casio SA-20

YouTube via manufacturedZ3R0
"Modified to wherever and back with filter, distortion, two to eight step arpeggiator/sequencer which can be set up to act as a cool LFO, not sustain on two octaves, pitch control, delay circuit with rate, feedback level and feedback filter, deep crash with crash calibration and a video line out.

It's hard to demo all the things these can do in ten minutes but hopefully this vid shows it's sweet and nasty sides in good measures. The mods give this digital machine a very cool 'organic' kind of feel. Great for all sorts of sounds. From chilled and melodic to all out harsh noise."

Optigan Call for Music Concrete

via Optigan.com

"In December 2010 we plan to release an experimental Optigan disc called “Musique Concrète,” which will essentially be a collage of 57 sound loops in the tradition of early electronic studio tape music. We’re completely disregarding the Optigan paradigm of chords and keys, and simply assigning a different abstract sound loop to each chord button and key. We thought that the most interesting approach for this disc would be to invite Optigoners everywhere to submit sound loops of their own making (please, no samples from commercial or copyrighted sources), from which we’ll choose the best for inclusion on the disc." The Akai iPK25 Still Lives?

It's listed for $99 on the Nova Musik website here. No release date listed, but according to Chris in the comments of this post, Guitar Center and Musician's Friend have the release date listed as March 3rd. Still nothing on the Akai site.

Update: I heard from Akai. It is still on track, same price and release date. The name has officially changed to the SynthStation25. The info page was removed at Apple's request.

"The Akai iPK25...now renamed SynthStation25 does in fact live. When developing hardware for Apple ipod products, Apple has a large number of hoops for developers to jump through. There was one hoop we missed so Apple made us take down the information from our web page. We are now working our way through this issue and it will be back up on the web page when we are allowed to put it back there. This has not affected shipping dates or anything, just our ability to have info regarding it up on our web page."

Circuit Bent Yamaha RX7 and Nintendo NES

YouTube via Destroyifyer
" This is a circuit bent Yamaha RX7 and an NES. As a warning, there are many loud, high pitched sounds in this video."

via this auction
"4 point patch grid on both machines, RX7 has a 24 channel mixer split into 4 groups of 6 by 3 switches. The RX7 has 6 fully routable pots (four 50k, one 250k and one 500k) connected by 5 switches and a 6th routes the last to the first making a loop. The NES has 8 routable pots (six 50k, one 100k, and one 250k) connected by 7 switches with an 8th that routes the last to the first. The video and the sound of the NES can be modified, triggered and controlled with the RX7, and the NES can mod its own picture by itself as well as sounds of the RX7. Both machines are fully functional, the NES is excellent and plays games without hesitation or glitches. RX7 will come with many of the drums edited, which can all easily be reset to the original factory settings if desired. A couple of the factory kits have been delightfully mangled to be very non-decaying and sound oriented to take a break from drum sounds if you wish... these can be easily overwritten (although they have been saved with the factory settings if they are missed). The RX7 is capable of making many non-drum noises and by both using the patch-grid and programming the machine a good selection of sounds can be achieved. It is recommended to research the RX7 and its capabilities if unfamiliar with this machine. Accessories include an NES controller, a 9V power adapter and random game for the NES, a power adapter and owner's manual for the RX7, as well as plenty of patch cables. The price of shipping includes insurance. For international bidders, please contact me a day or so in advance for a shipping quote. These machines will go to the highest bidder and ship out somewhat immediately.

Right-click and "save target as" or similar mac operation to listen.

RJC 1000 - Tutorial

"The RJC 1000

The RJC1000 is the first music production tool to create customized music for the new generation of smart music players such as the iPhone. Using this software, you will get access to a growing number of reactive music modules such as the worldquantizer and twistybass. They will make it easy for you to create very engaging new music experiences by integrating the players accelerometer, microphone, compass or signal processing facilities into your music.

You can now create tracks where the movements of a listener control the melody of your song or the percussive noises in the listeners environment become part of the beat structure of your song.
Apply a range of realtime effects such as Eargasms or Dub Delays to the players microphone and combine the result with your music. This is reactive music, this is the 21st century ;-)

For a good idea of what RJC1000 does, have a look at the manual: http://trac.rjdj.me/wiki/RJC1000-manual"
