Oberheim DSX SN A33918

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The DSX is a polyphonic sequencer made to interface over the Oberheim Parallel Buss with OB series synthesizers and DMX drum machines, however it can also be used with any CV/Gate equipped synth. It features 10 tracks with a 6,000 note capacity. In addition to the Oberheim Parallel Buss output, the DSX offers Clock in/out, 8 CV/Gate outputs as mentioned above, Tape Sync in/out, and Cassette Memory in/out.

It includes the latest OS (v3.04), and all aspects I can test work perfectly; the only thing I cannot test is the Parallel Bus connection to an Oberheim keyboard, as I don't have an Oberheim keyboard to test with, nor do I have the cable itself. The power cable is included.

Cosmetically, there are a few superficial scratches, a discoloration and 2 holes on the left end cheek from a previous owner who had mounted something on there, and some mild screw corrosion on the back panel. Overall it is in excellent shape for an item of its age.

There is now a software program available called DSX Hack (Google "DSX Hack" and you will find it) to assist in programming the DSX using MIDI files - I am the author of this program, and this is the device used in the development of the software (I have another DSX as well). Using DSX Hack, this becomes an easy to program, awesome 8 channel CV/Gate sequencer!! I will throw in a free copy of DSX Hack ($40 value) as well - once the sale is complete and you receive the item and confirm all is well, I will email you registration details for the software."

"This synth is like a suped-up Roland SH-2000 preset, mono synth.

Works great. Keys are yellowed. Includes the extremely rare Multivox brass case.

The Multivox MX-880 has almost exactly the same features and voices as the Roland SH-2000:
- Touch Volume (Off/On)
- Touch Wow (Off/On)
- Touch Growl (Off/On)
- Touch Vibrato (Off/On)
- Touch Pitch Bend (Up/Off/Down)
- Repeat (Off/On)
- Sustain Long (Off/On)
- Hold (Off/On)
- Easy Tuning knob
- Touch Sensitivity knob
- Volume slider
- Modulation Speed slider
- Modulation (amount) slider
- Cutoff Frequency slider
- Resonance slider
- Portamento Speed slider
- Portamento (Touch/Off/On)
- Random Note generator (LFO Trigger/Off/Random Trigger)
- Transpose (Low/Normal/High)

But, additional the second ocillator is what makes this synth different. You choose any frequency within the range (3rd, 5th, 6th, octave or any frequency in between) or select Unison for a thick single notes.

Voices: Tuba, Trombone, French Horn, Trumpet, Saxophone, Clarinet, Accordion, Bassoon, Oboe, Flute, Song Whistle, Singing Voice, Cello, Violin, Bass Guitar, Hawaiian Guitar, Banjo, Fuzz Guitar 1, Fuzz Guitar 2, Harpsichord, Piano, Xylophone, Vibraphone, Percolate (called Pop Corn on Roland SH-2000), Space Reed, Outer Space (called Planet on Roland SH-2000), Frogman, Alley Cat (called Funny Cat on Roland SH-2000), Ring Modulator (may be the same as Growl Wow on Roland SH-2000), Wind.

Here's a video of the MX-2000 I sold a while ago. The MX-880 sounds and looks exactly the same except Multivox covered up the MX-2000 with an MX-880 sticker:" [previously posted here]

Doepfer MOGLI Midi Glove (Rare - Vintage)

Published on Feb 19, 2017 studentsmusic

"Mogli was a nice attempt (Doepfer cooperated with the Band Kraftwerk on this) in 1993, to control MIDI via a Nintendo game controller glove. Probably only about 350 were built because the glove went out of Nintendo-production. So here´s a rare basic demonstration how it works.

Semi-Fun factor (realized it afterwards):
sorry for associating my glovehand going up with political implications plus darth vader...no worries i´m somewhat a liberal democrat :-)"

Creating a PAD - Oberheim OB-Mx Patch Creation

Published on Feb 25, 2017 100 Things I Do

"I thought I would do another video on the OB-Mx, this time I will take it from the Default patch and create a pad patch. To me it sounds very much like previous Oberheim's when using only the OB Filter! I kept the patch quite simple *(maybe I will do a video on the Mod Matrix later)*. To round the clip off I throw the patch into The BlackHole Reverb and the Eventide H3000. For regular viewers this should not come as a surprise :D"

Using Stillson Hammer mkii to trigger Ornaments and Crime in Piqued mode, which opens Ch1-4 on the Linix vca. Outputs from Linix move to Mutamix, and then to Clouds, and then to Eventide Space.

The sounds are generated from Erica Black Wavetable sub out to Ch1, and regular out to Ch2. This is blended with Telharmonic H-out to Ch3 and P-out to Ch4. Rings is mixed in later via Ch5-6 on Mutamix.

The animation comes from Batumi LFOs."

BugBrand AudioWeevil 07 - Ring Mod / Filter / Distortion w/ Touch Controls

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Super rare, "hardly ANY 07s made!" according to Tom Bugs. The sonic character of this is actually quite different from all of the other BugBrand board weevil designs.

Crazy sounds to say the least, and a huge range. Juicy filter, circuit-bent ring mod. Use built in oscillators, process the audio-in signal through the LFO-modulated filter alone, or turn it into a square wave and introduce this into the "weevil" section. Touchplates and voltage starve control to change the modulation in chaotic ways. Has a built-in speaker or 1/4" out. Everything working. Note that the case has a small crack in one corner... was like this when I bought it and it's stable, just wanted to mention it.

As described by its maker...":

"The heart of a Weevil is the two lofi squarewave Oscs that get quasi-ringmodded together for crash'n'scream sounds. What we do with the AudioWeevil version is to take an input audio signal and turn it into a squarewave that can then replace one of the internal Weevil Oscs - so your squared input gets ringmodded with one of the internal Oscs for supremely gnarly ringmod and tremolo effects. The effect works best with monophonic sounds - guitar picking or keyboards - the sounds are extreme!

This new version ups the stakes by building in a mixer stage which allows blending of the Dry audio, Squared Audio (a very overdriven version of the dry input) and Ringmod (Weevil) output before it is passed through a powerful resonant LowPass filter. And now there's also a modulation LFO to sweep internal Osc1 and the filter cutoff. This LFO has two speed ranges (right up into audio rates which work great for filter modulation) and three waveforms - ramp, tri and sawtooth. The LFO is one of the nicest features of these new Weevils!

Another fun feature is the internal mini-amp/speaker. This allows you to make noise on the move and the sound is pretty different to what you get from the line-out, so there's possibilities for nice creative recording experiments. And it can chuck out quite a hefty sound - though, be aware that it can chomp through batteries pretty quickly when the amp is driven hard.

The touchplate is another area of great sonic-bend-potential and the engraved and tinned board features 11 touchpoints connecting to the audio input (1), Oscs (5), LFO (3) and filter (2).

Check the Frontpanel and Block diagrams to the left to get more of an idea what may be going on...

In essence, the AudioWeevil07 is capable of going from pure & clean (eg. audio input filtering with lfo modulation) to hyper-screech (eg. many other settings!). It comes in a slope-fronted plastic case with metal frontplate."

Crumar / Steiner Parker EVI Electronic Valve Instrument Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"Jazz licks never sounded better than humming through this bad boy, the Crumar EVI, originally designed by Nyle Steiner of Steiner Parker fame and rebranded by Crumar. The EVI is a monophonic analog synthesizer controlled by breath, and styled after a trumpet.

Sun Ra Arkestra vet Marshall Allen famously rocks one if you've had the great pleasure to see him perform.

Apart from rusty, busted latches, this unit is sublime, with all functions working properly. It sounds huge, especially on the lower end of the dial where crazy low frequency bass tones really move some air.

Features:
2 oscillators, 3 waveshapes ( Sawtooth, Square, Rectangular ) selectable and doubled.
Volume,Breath Level, Resonance, S.E.D. ( Spectral Energy Distribution ),Tune controls
4 Switches for Wave select and Touch Modulation(ON/OFF), and Signal Output.
Breath Controller has four playing keys and unique octave shift roller (8 octave)
and 3 knob( Tune,Scale,Portamento), 3 adjustment (TM sens,Breath zero, sens)"

Solo for Arp 2500 Synthesizer

Published on Feb 25, 2017 David Baron

"The Arp 2500 is one of the rarest analog modular synthesizers of the 1960s-70s. It was created as a direct competitor to the Moog modular but never had as much success due to inherent crosstalk of the unusual slider matrix (versus Moog's patch cords). There are about twenty-five systems left working in the world. This is a solo composition for Arp 2500 performed in my studio near Woodstock, NY. I played it live on a controller keyboard so that I could edit the midi performance slightly. Velocity is mapped to filter cutoff and amplitude . The audio was recorded live with only some added reverberation and tape delay.

The most famous appearance of the Arp is in 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' - it is used to speak to the aliens as a prop. The synthesizer was also used on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Who's Next, Logan's Run soundtrack, and for a lot of the beautiful drone work of Éliane Radigue."
