Intellijel Dixie & Dr. Octature Videos

Dixie VCO/LFO Demo#1 waveforms and modulation

"Melodic demo of the Dixie VCO. Two Dixies are used (only one at first) along with a Z8000 for sequencing, a uScale for quantizing, uStep for step sequencing and everything is filtered through the new Dr. Octature VCF/VCO.

The uScale is used to help demonstrate the extremely wide and accurate range of tracking of both VCOs. The sequence spans many octaves but the intervals of the two Dixies stay in tune.

PWM, LIN FM and Sync are all played with along with different combinations of waveforms to explore just some of the timbre possibilities."

Mid Century Electronica

Mid Century Electronica from Atomic Shadow on Vimeo.

"A short piece featuring Hp sine wave generators, tape loops and ring modulators. re-mixed and produced by Steve Howell at Hollow Sun."

via Atomic Shadow:
"Entitled 'Mid Century Electronica' the piece made use of my dusty, tube HP sine wave generators, tape loops and ring modulators. I am very pleased that Stephen Howell of Hollow Sun agreed to produce and re-mix the track. Any day that you can collaborate with a man who has done sound design for Peter Gabriel is an outstanding day.

Here is how Mr. Howell described the piece...
'A short piece featuring vintage, tube HP sine wave generators, tape loops and ring modulators with a photographic homage to the early pioneers of electronica.... Daphne Oram in twin set, the impish Delia Derbyshire of the early BBC Radiophonic Workshop, several tweedy boffins in their music labs, Karlheinz Stockhausen and so many others. A different age when innovation and ingenuity triumphed over the many technical limitations of the age.

Abstract music soundtrack re-mixed and produced by Stephen Howell of Hollow Sun using traditional techniques in a digital age.'

Stephen has made some really unique Kontakt instruments using samples from my vintage equipment. Check the Music Laboratory Machines section at his web site.

http://www.hollowsun.com/

TriOsc, Oscillosine, and Broken all started out as samples from the Atomic Shadow lab."

See http://atomicshadow.bandcamp.com for the latest two releases by Atomic Shadow. A future album titled "Twelve Full Moons" is due shortly after the first of next year.

The makers behind the upcoming modular documentary "I Dream of Wires" has started a new SoundCloud group. Below is the first track posted.

20 Loops Cylonix Cyclebox (0101-Mode) + Moogerfooger by I Dream Of Wires

"Here is a demo created by Jason Amm (Solvent) of the Cylonix Cyclebox, a very unique digital VCO in modular eurorack format (http://cylonix.com). The sound is Cyclebox + Moogerfooger mixed together through an Intellijel Mutagen module, with no post-processing. I used a Mk1 Cyclebox here, since sold, although I now own a Mk2.

Here are 20 loops, self-generated via Cyclebox's 0101 mode, described by Cylonix as "Bitwise C-Element of OSC1 and OSC2 with OSC3 Phase Perturbation" - also described by another Cyclebox user as "Good as a chaotic but repetitive LFO". So just to clarify there is no external sequencing here - everything is self-generated within the Cyclebox. In each loop, the 2nd Cyclebox out ("Lag Out") is being used as a modulation source on 1 of the CV-inputs on a Moogerfooger. Three Moogers were used - the Freqbox, Low Pass Filter, and Ring Modulator. I don't remeber which was used for which loop, or what exactly I did to create any of these. But I can tell you that this kind of glitch/IDM madness was flowing out the Cyclebox with ease.

Please note: these sound recordings are the property of Jason Amm and are copyright protected. Please do not sample or distribute without permission!

Update: For those not familiar with PPG and Wolfgang Palm, he brought us wavetable synthesis in the late 70s. via Wikipedia: "Wavetable synthesis is used in certain digital music synthesizers to implement a restricted form of real-time additive synthesis. The technique was first developed by Wolfgang Palm of PPG in the late 1970s [1] and published in 1979[2], and has since been used as the primary synthesis method in synthesizers built by PPG and Waldorf Music and as an auxiliary synthesis method by Sequential Circuits, Ensoniq, Korg, Access and Dave Smith Instruments among others." Morton Subotnick & Tony Martin / Floris Vanhoof / Köhn @ BOZAR

YouTube Uploaded by bozarbrussel on Oct 19, 2011

"MORTON SUBOTNICK (US) & TONY MARTIN (US)
Floris Vanhoof (BE) / Köhn (BE)
on Monday Oct 17, 2011 (20:00) at BOZAR, Brussels!
Centre for Fine Arts / Terarken room
co-produced by Bozar Cinema and Kraak

Morton Subotnick is one of the grand pioneers of electronic music. In the late sixties he worked along peers as Steve Reich, Terry Riley and Pauline Oliveros. He also helped developing the legendary Buchla synthesizer, with which he composed his first and most important work Silver Apples of the Moon. This work, that was released through the Nonesuch label in 1967, has gathered the reputation of a classic electronic avant-garde piece. Subotnick devoted much of his career to multimedia work and technologic innovations. On Oct 17 he brings his Silver Apples of the Moon again together with visual work of Tony Martin, who stands as the inventor of light show. Martin is a visual artist from the same generation who worked with Oliveros and David Tudor. His work, that in the early days focused mainly on light and interaction, originates in the same period of Subotnick's first pieces. Back in those days he worked closely with the San Francisco Tape Music Centre, where Subotnick was active as well.

Basically everything Floris Vanhoof put his hands on in 2010 turned into a highlight. Not only his debut album 'Slime Time' on Ultra Eczema, or his self released cd-r Nozem / Mutant, but also the many small concerts. In his live shows Vanhoof links new visual ideas to his idiosyncratic musical performances in which homemade synthesizers, modified 16mm projectors, exceptional internet acquisitions and a personal framework are forged into an impressive whole. One of the most versatile and creatively liberated artists in Belgium!

Köhn (born JĂ¼rgen De Blonde) is a self-taught musician and composer. He's been an active musician since the age of 12 when he started playing around with a small casio keyboard. From that time onward he's been fascinated by electronic music and creating his own sounds and music. Not having an academic background, De Blonde's interest in music has always been eclectic, allowing influences from a wide range of styles and sounds. Early influences were Jean-Michel Jarre, Jan Hammer, Klaus Schulze, Kraftwerk, Vangelis, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden and mainstream Pop Music. Recently he has been focusing on the kosmische synth pioneers and minimalists such as Terry Riley and Steve Reich, reaching new heights in his discography and live performances.

"This is a Black-faced ARP Odyssey Mk I Model 2800, this is not the Mk II. In the last year of production of the Mk I (74'-75'), they switched from the white face to the black face with gold lettering, which they carried over to the Mk II. Under the hood, this is the same as the much sought after white face models. It has the original 4023 filter and rotary pitch bend knob. This filter is gritty and amazing. Nothing sounds like it."

"Put the analog edge back into your sound. Run your signal through the FilterFactory and you'll get everything from thick, retro filter sweeps to sub harmonic rumblings or even tweeter-shredding mayhem. Get everything from thick retro filter sweeps to sub harmonic rumblings or even tweeter-shredding mayhem. Extreme sonic shaping is the bottom line. 101 Flavors. Remix your tracks and explore infinite variations just by twisting the FilterFactory's knobs. MIDI controlled filter, so you can automate and sequence every single control setting and movement. Get a Buzz on? The buzz section gives you everything from a bit of extra punch right through to the `in your face` sound. Can you dig it? Similar to the old hybrid synths of the 70's, FilterFactory is a true analog filter design with digital control. How low can you go? Extreme resonance and cutoff frequency control canmake any frequency sub-basement low or stratospheric with mind numbing self-oscillation. Four Filters in one. Choose between Low pass, High Pass,Band Pass, and Notch filters. Five waveforms to choose from: saw tooth, inverse saw tooth, triangle, square and random. All synch to Tap Tempo or MIDI clock. Single Shot ADSR emulator lets you play the filter without needing a keyboard. Filter's CV input allows most old monosynths to control the FilterFactory's frequency and track the notes you're playing. 4 pole provides a big beefy Mono sound. 2 Pole provides a more controlled stereo signal."

LPChip - DS-10 Alien (c64 remix)

YouTube Uploaded by LPChip on Oct 26, 2011

"This is a remix made from the title song of C64 game Alien, composed by Paul Clansey in 1984.

Since its a slow song with awesome filters, I thought it would be perfectly doable on the DS-10, so I gave it a shot. I improvised along the way, adding new melodies which I think do perfectly fit the song. It makes the song a bit longer than the original. I also added drums because that makes the song better.

An MP3 version has been submitted to remix.kwed.org and can be found here:
(song hasn't been approved yet. link will follow)

I have mixed the sound from the video because it had too much bass and too little trebble.

I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do. Please leave a comment and a vote :)"
