Bob Moog's Workshop

"Tucked away in a unassuming corner of the Moog Factory is a small room that could easily be described as Santa’s Workshop, of course the more accurate name would be 'Bob’s Workshop.' The Moog Machine Shop houses Bob Moog’s original machining tools, some passed down from his father, and many of which were used to create the original Voyager prototype. If these machines could talk they would have some interesting stories to tell of late night inspiration and musical innovation. The Machine Shop continues to play a critical role in prototyping and development, every Moog instrument begins it life here, and everything from the Little Phatty to the Minitaur has experienced the touch of Bob’s tools."

"challenge part deux
the modem was too easy, all kind of noises and tones just perfect for creating drums, basses and everything, so this time i attacked the second most common dubstep myth, the door stopper, so i found myself 2 nice door stopper samples and built a whole song with them, some parts are not recorded, as is all the arrangement as my laptop is wayyyyy too old to record audio and video while producing

"For each patch, the DCO waveform can be set to Square (with separate pulse width modulation control) and Sawtooth, and both can be combined together for rich tonality. Separate sliders also control the level of a discrete noise generator and the sub-harmonic oscillator. You can also adjust the pitch of the oscillators across 3 octaves. There's also a nice trick to allow you to stack the oscillators for a great unison solo.

There's a 4 position High-Pass Filter which has even more bass boost, and a Low-Pass Filter which resonates to self-oscillation and has a really smooth tone to it.

The Juno-106 has a full ADSR envelope where each stage is controlled by a separate slider. This can be assigned to the filters and to the VCA.

A triangle wave LFO that has controls for rate and delay can be assigned to the oscillators and filter sections.

It also features a stereo chorus which can be set to "Rich," "Harmonic," or Off.

The 106 features full midi spec and sysex transfer facility which means you can send control changes for every single slider over midi in real time. So hook up to a midi sequencer and while recording, twiddle with the sliders and all control sound changes will be recorded in real time over midi and then played back in real-time. Then edit it and send it back to the synth."

Just take a look and listen on YouTube to experience it. Mine is a 2010 model signed Folktek '10 on one side and Arius Blaze on the other.Be aware though, these are handmade even if advanced circuit bending, quirky, don't always do as they are told but tremendous fun and very capable in the right hands.Fully working but sold as seen, any trial welcome, possible swap outside this place for analogue or modular gear, contact me for that. This would make a great sound source for a modular too.Cash on collection or Paypal and post.UK bidders only please.Website is www.folktek.com ,Write up below from website ; The Luminist Garden created by Arius Blaze - one of the finest and sweetest sounding folktek works. This work is an expanded version of the Micro Garden, capable of making lush choral waves and entire compositions as a standalone work. The expanded soundboard has multiple pick ups that run into the delay - which offers time settings from extremely tight notated repeats to about 1.5 seconds with near infinite undecaying feedback that essentially acts as a looper allowing one to make beats by tapping the board and plucking or rubbing the strings. The delay runs into a very lush and unusual "wave reverb" that has the ability to act more as a wave generator, creating waves that can endlessly extend - based on the original note but with the ability to pitch shift the feedback, resulting in something like what is called "convolution". The result is rich electronic music from an accoustic source. Sweet ambience and micro musical. Stereo out, custom lamps and switch, runs on 9v DC power adapter (standard plug jack and power rating)."

Vintage EML 100 for Sale - Audio Demo

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

"There's only been 100-150 of these ever made but this one is in perfect functional condition. It was fully serviced in 2007 and has no mis-triggering keys, dirty pots or issues. Most of these that sell online have issues or are beat up. It was also modded to open up the filter past 101 capabilities and another cool mod is that the bottom pot of the osc mixer it goes from white to OSC 1 now so you don't have to patch OSC 1 into the filter mixer. The filter is also different, better IMHO than the 101 as you can sweep from LP to HP but then you can sweep through BR and back to LP which you cannot do on the 101. Also as opposed to the 101, there are seperate audio outputs for each filter mode. These then can be mixed together for awesome results.

Cosmetically there are some dings on the blue paint and wood case from patch cords and the lower pictures show the slightly chipped wood case. There's a reason they switched from the blue paint. But as opposed to most EML products in a case the original handle, clasps and power/connecting cord are still intact.

I outline the differences between the 100 and 101 on the EML 100 VSE page. Some of the functions left off the 101 after the 100 are actually very cool.

A brief demo of the item with a drone, playing it, showing off its microtonal capabilities and patching an envelope follower and putting a DR-55 through it is here. The drone in various forms takes up most of the first 10 minutes.

"Everything seems to work well: I checked out the all of the potentiometers and the switches and all are functional. Only the Noise/Ext pot in the mixer is a bit scratchy near the lower end – very likely some cleaning spray would help that. I also checked out all the external connections and they both send and receive CV/trig as they should; the Filter In and Audio In both work appropriately.

The cosmetics overall are good (see the pics). There are two basic cosmetic flaws:

There is a drilled hole in the upper right panel, where someone might have had a switch or wanted to put an 'ON' indicator LED? I don't know, I received it this way. You could install a switch there (it would be a good place for a 'Invert Filter Envelope' toggle switch), or you could use a hole plug, or just some electrician's tape to cover it up.

The pitch wheel has an internal crack. However, this seems purely cosmetic: the wheel itself is in solid shape.

Now, on the chassis is a high serial number (9270), which would usually indicate that this has one of the dreaded 'membrane' keyboards. However, this keyboard does NOT have the membrane keyboard, it has the superior J-wire design. I know because I installed the J-wire keyboard here. It was from my other Pro One with an earlier serial number (I put that Pro One into a Synthwood case and used instead the keys from a dead Juno-106). To reiterate, the synthesizer in this auction has the J-wire keyboard, (see the pics) and I just replaced the bushings and cleaned up the wires and buss bar, so it's working nicely.

I also recapped the unit, removing all old electrolytics and tantalum caps, and replacing with new electrolytics.

Everything is working, but due to this being vintage analog electronics, all sales are final. I do guarantee that it won't arrive DOA."

Jordan Rudess' Tachyon for iOS Released

Video previously posted here.
"Do you want to play an electric guitar and a piano at the same time? What about choosing the electrifying buzz of a drill and blending it into the soothing tone of a human voice? Jordan Rudess and Kevin Chartier’s Tachyon gives you all these options and more.

From the makers of the award winning app, MorphWiz, comes a new creation that allows images and sound to become one as they magically blend under your fingertips. Each note you play is an individual expression, allowing independent control of pitch and tone far beyond that of traditional instruments.

Most instruments only allow you to play one sound at a time, but with Tachyon, you can seamlessly blend between any two sounds as you slide your fingers up and down the screen.

The visual experience of Tachyon is just as mesmerizing. As you move along the playing surface, a field of twinkling stars morphs into the shape of your selected instrument, allowing a direct correlation between sight and sound.

As described by Jordan Rudess, “Tachyon is simple to use and at the same time offers a unique musical expressive power. The sonic core of the app is a custom crafted sound set from my personal library, encompassing sounds as familiar as those you would find in your home toolbox, and as exclusive as the ones I use on tour with Dream Theater."

Whether you’re a seasoned musician looking for a next generation instrument to further express your creativity, or just a regular Joe browsing the app store looking for a fun and simple purchase that will delight the whole family, Tachyon is the app for you!"

Arp Odyssey MK III

More pics at the auction while up.

"No need to hype this one; it truly is the pinnacle of mono-synth engineering. Its screaming leads, punchy bass, and squealing resonance are matched tonally only by the Minimoog Model D, yet it dwarfs its rival in features, routing flexibility, and tuning stability. With dual oscillators, lowpass and highpass filters, a comprehensive sample and hold section, a pair of envelopes, frequency and ring modulation functionality, pink and white noise, expansive CV in/out, external audio processing, and comprehensive routing of ADSR, AR, S&H, and LFO sections to both the filter and oscillators, it takes much of the functionality of a modular synth and packs it into a remarkably efficient and user friendly framework. Simply put, this is one brilliant synth!

This one has just been serviced and is fully functional. All sliders and switches have been cleaned, deoxidized, and freshly lubricated. A handful of sliders with dodgy tracks were replaced with high quality synthrestore.co.uk replacements, and all sliders have been fitted with new caps. The keyboard functions well; all notes trigger accurately and the bar has been cleaned and deoxidized. The keys have been leveled since the pictures below were taken. They're not perfectly level, but the middle two keys that are high in the photo are now much closer inline with the others. All functions on the Odyssey were calibrated less than a month ago and are at spec. It is clean, quiet, stable, and trouble free. Cosmetically it is about what you would expect given its age. It has been used but not abused, and for the past few years been well kept and maintained in a private studio. The leather (faux leather?) sides show some staining and wear. The paint is somewhat faded and shows a few scratches. The bottom, of course, is marked and scratched from stands. On the whole, however, it is a very nice looking keyboard. Please refer to the many images below for specifics.

One item of note: On the bottom of each key is a rubber guide holding two wires. They slide easily onto a little post sticking out of the bottom of each key. When a key is depressed, these wires touch a metal bar and trigger a note. During shipping it is possible that one or more of these guides might slide down, or even off of the key, resulting in either the key not triggering or the wires touching the bar and sounding a steady note. All that needs to be done is to press the little rubber guide back onto its post on the bottom of the key, and check that the wires are on the right side of the bars. Arp provided an access panel for just this purpose, so you don't even have to otherwise open the keyboard. It is a very, very simple thing to correct, and likelier than not, won't even happen. But on the off chance it does, IT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AS A REASON FOR RETURNING THE ITEM. It does not represent actual damage to the keyboard; it's simply something that infrequently happens when transporting this model synth... "

Our goal was to recreate the warm sounds of the classics, using all analog circuitry -- not samples. The brain of the LDB-1 is a powerful digital microcontroller that triggers the analog drum sounds and provides the sequencer, programmability and connectivity features. Eight instruments: Bass, Low tom, high tom, snare drum, woodblock, hand clap, closed hi-hat, and open hi-hat. Easily interfaces with other instruments, synthesizers, DAWs, etc. through analog connections, MIDI, and DINsync. The LDB-1 has all of the features of a classic analog drum machine in a small, affordable package.
