Thomas Henry's Controller LFO

Thomas Henry's Controller LFO from fonitronik on Vimeo.

"Again a very short demo of one of Tomas' new modules. This video shows just the LFO running in trigger mode, and then in gated mode.  There are only few LFO modules integrating a gate delay and a VCA to create this delayed and inceasing tremolo/vibrato that sounds so musical."

M-Z3R0 - First steps with midi input - Midi controller & cubase to arduino

Published on Oct 23, 2012 by manufacturedZ3R0

"I've been working on programming in the arduino environment and midi on and off for a month or two now and now have a basic understanding of how the midi protocol works and how to implement it. Although this project doesn't look like much it is the first step to adding midi input to my circuit bent projects. I've got a way to go yet with both programming and things like multiplexing in order to gain control of the full range of a keyboard but hope to soon have something hooked up and playing via midi."

Ruin Electronics CDS-1 Analog Drone Noise Synthesizer

via this auction
Demos below.

"This is the Ruin Electronics CDS-1 (Compact Drone Synth). This is a one of a kind instrument. It was professionally built and designed by Ruin. The unit has been built into a vintage transistor radio case. Faux wood grain, chrome, and brushed aluminum give it a classy retro look.

The CDS-1 is new; no previous owners.

The CDS-1 is a 100% Analog synthesizer in a sturdy case with a fashionable carrying handle. The CDS-1 is not only a Drone and noise Synthesizer, but a sound effects generator. The filter sounds very vocal and organic. Paired with the thick oscillators, some strange alien vocalizations can be made. The CDS-1 offers a wide range of sounds with its excellent compliment of functions. There is no other drone/noise/experimental synth out there like this, especially in such a compact package! Despite being small, there is still plenty of room to use the controls so no play-ability is sacrificed.

Space sounds, crackles, hums, percussion, alien speech, warbles, zaps, clangs, bangs. This is a great unit for performance, sampling, or just plain old fun!

The units approximate measurements are:

7.75" width x 3" depth x 6" height

The unit features:

3x Square waveform VCOs (Voltage Controlled Oscillators) with individual tuning per oscillator and a master pitch control. The oscillators go from subsonic to ultrasonic with a twist of the control.

Ringmod/Mix switch which either ringmods the oscillators together or mixes them evenly.
2x Triangle/Square waveform LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators) for modulation. LFO 1 can be routed to either the VCA or VCOs. Each LFO has a Depth and Speed control.

VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) which can be controlled by LFO 1 or manually with the VCA depth knob.

Bandpass VCF (Voltage Controlled Filter). The filter is extremely resonant and will self oscillate. LFO2 is dedicated to the modulation of the VCF. The VCF has a Frequency and Resonance control.

1/4" Output

Built in Speaker and Amplifier. When the 1/4" output is unplugged the unit will emit sound from its internal speaker which adds great portability to the unit.

9V battery or DC adapter. With a choice of either 9V battery or external DC adapter the unit can be a portable unit for busking or impromptu outside jam sessions or a studio piece. Featuring an on board regulator the unit will clean up any power source from 9-15V"

Please check out this multi-tracked demo using only the CDS-1. No external effects were used. Imagine the possibilities! CDS-1 demo by Ruin

Autobot Acid 01

Published on Oct 23, 2012 by ISOTROPOSPHERE

"This is a big Thank you to those who contribute to the Acid pattern of the month club on Soundcloud.

After taking delivery from Shawn at AH on my new Acidlab Autobot sequencer and hooking it up, I jumped over to the Soundcloud club and copied the pattern sheets for the latest pattern of the month.

This was my second experiment with the Autobot, maybe I'll post the first, and useage with the newly acquired patterns.

Testing with the Korg ER-1 mkII electribe and Bleep Labs Thingamagoop 2 going to the audio in number one jack.

Question for you synth heads and subscribers to my channel.
-- Does someone manufacture a device to send a start and stop command via midi to drum machines and sequencers which need this signal to begin or end functioning? --

I hate taking the ER off line to make it midi master just so I can send a start command to the Autobot or the Technosaurus Cyclodon via Doepfer MSY2.

Autobot CV to TipTop Z3000 mkI / squarewave out.
Squarewave to Blue Lantern Diode Filter

Vintage Analog Synthesizer MAPLIN 3800

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"It is a true analog monophonic synthesizer. The roots of the english MAPLIN models base on the ETI DIY Synthesizers from Australia.
This MAPLIN 3800 "Synthesiser" (look at the photos) was manufactured in England.

It has great sound capabilities because of the internal routing, the two VCOs (syncable), the noise generator, the S&H circuit (three different sources), three modulation sources, the ring modulator, the LFO, the VCF, the reverberation, the equalizer and the unique Transient circuit. The Transient is a kind of envelope that can be used to modulate several other components of the synthesizer. Like the Trapezoid circuit inside the EMS VCS3 and Synthi A synthesizers. The Transient circuit has got seven different pots for setting up and can also retrigger the synthesizer. Also there is a flexible kind of envelope for the VCA (ADDSR).

This offered synthesizer has got some issues: the two VCO input rotary switches for setting up the VCOs (the blue and the green very left ones) can not be turned without tongs! The switches have to be exchanged. The pot for setting up the noise color does not affect the noise color. The LED of the power supply is lose and needs to be fixed. Thats all. Technical everything works fine excepting the noise color pot. But noise is present and can be leveled from 0 to 100 percent. Even the VCO input rotary switches work normal excepting the strong torque they need to be switched. The installed knobs on them can't hold this strong torque and so they turn without any effect.

Sounds great without any noise on the audio path.

At the back you find several connector sockets. As there are: Foot switches for Trigger and for Glide, external audio input (can be routed through the filter and be used to synchronise the Envelope and the Transient to other sound sources) Here for there is at the front panel the section "EXTERNAL I/P". With this the external audio can be setup in sensitivity and trigger level. Also there is a separate output socket for the trigger and the retrigger, and for the audio output. At least there is a multi connector called "COMPUTER". But i don't know anything about it. I think it corresponds to the section "COMPUTER" at the front panel.

Unit works on 220 - 240 Volt. You will probably need an voltage converter to use this synthesizer or you replace the mains transformer inside."

Ableton Live + Nintendo Power Glove: Meet Controllerist Yeuda Ben-Atar aka Side Brain @ Dubspot

Published on Oct 23, 2012 by DubSpot

"More info: http://bit.ly/RTFril

Los Angeles-based producer and controllerist Yeuda Ben-Atar (better known as electronic music performer and beatmaker Side Brain) recently stopped by Dubspot NYC to explain and demonstrate how he utilizes a 1980s Nintendo video game system controller with Ableton Live. The Power Glove controller originally released in 1989, was the first peripheral interface controller to reproduce human hand movements on a television or computer screen in real time.

Yeuda grew up playing keyboards and guitars in the 90s, but as an avid gamer he has always searched for ways to incorporate his love of videogames with his music. In this interview, Yeuda talks about his influences and inspirations, controller designs and interface devices, the similarities between video games and digital audio workstations (DAWs), mapping the Power Glove to control Ableton Live, using Max for Live, using the computer as a musical instrument, and developing a unique voice and presentation within the crowded world of modern electronic music!"
