We haven's seen the SuONOIO in a while. For those not familiar with it, it was a mini patchable sound machine synth circuit board from NIN's Alessandro Cortini and The Harvestman.

Battery Powered Music

"I had an music track I made a few months ago but didn't know what to do with it. So I've cobbled together some really old animations done over the past ten years and made a little music video.

The song itself was made using a Korg Volca Keys multitracked to create the lead and counterpoint, a Korg Monotribe for the drums, a Bliptronic for the synth part that starts the song and runs all the way through, and a Nintendo DS game called Jam Sessions that has an awesome acoustic and electric guitar simulation. The Korg Monotron Delay provided the synth swoops towards the end of the song.

The animations were created in Truespace (most of the physics animations), iClone (the dinosaur and some of the nature animations), PD Pro Howler (the opening flybys and more abstract animations) and Canoma (animations that started as photographs but were turned into 3D animations)."

"Here is another original tune of mine on the Prophet-6 synthesizer....it is called, PLAY HAVE FUN.
I kept coming back to Preset-317. It inspired me to write this tune with a Pop Ambient quality. The Korg M3 contributes a piano synth sound & a beat. I add some EQ from my Roland Mixer to the drums & Piano section."

"Testing the presets of brandnew ROLAND JD-XA. BANK D: Arpeggios & Other Stuff.

Using arpeggios and preset sequences if there are any preprogrammed. Tweaking occasionally. JD-XA does not contain any drum kits as its smaller and cheaper sibling is providing. If there are any drums to be heard they're mostly programmed from scratch with the internal sound engines -- both digital and analog.

More thoughts about the synth:
Many options. But it is a little bit the JD800 problem: the basic sound is quickly edited but the fine tuning takes hours because you have to step thru hundreds of parameters in a 2-line-display (without dial!!!).

No computer editor!
The sequencer is almost the same as in JD-Xi with the same flaws. It crashes frequently and it DOES NOT TRANSPOSE! I hope Roland will fix and implement this with the next update.

About the integration of digital and analog section: The routing is a bit confusing to me but once you managed to lea a digital sound through the analog section it sounds very nice. The digital waves are also well chosen and sounding. For understanding the concept: There are two synths -- one digital, one analog -- that only share the housing and the FX. As a consequence you cannot choose a digital waveform in your analog synth you can only lead a complete sound of the digital machine through the analog section for sound enhancement.

But all in all it is a versatile well sounding synth!"

"Overall, the synth is in excellent working condition. Cosmetic condition is really nice - the wooden cabinet has been given a clean & polish and has a great patina and grain to it. The front panel is clean with only a couple of blemishes. The metal case is in excellent condition with only small marks to the rear.

The synth was recently serviced, which included refurbishing the keyboard (bushings, bussbars, key contacts, keys) and calibrating the synth to specs. The synth retains its original oscillator boards.

All knobs, buttons and switches are present, original and function correctly.

All keys are clean and aligned and contact correctly.

The unit was tested today and the synth is working as it should be: 100% functional and the tuning is rock solid."

Song For A Day Off

"I have the day off today and wanted to do something created. So, I made up this song and recorded it directly to a Zoom H1 using a Belkin Rockstar Headphone Splitter.

The synths used (in order of appearance) are a Korg MicroSampler with a Mellotron Flute sample, a Korg Monotribe providing bass and rhythm, a Korg Volca Sampler providing some stereo percussion, Volca Bass with mono audio cable causing it to pan hard right and Volca Keys with it's own digital delay.

Also pictured (but not used) is a Bliptronic 5000 and some mounting boards for a Littlebits Korg Synth Kit. The Synths are sitting on a custom made base made from scrap foam core found at work to keep everything organized.

I'm a big fan of inexpensive synths and love trying to make music with really simple and budget friendly devices. The Microsampler was purchased second hand on ebay while the Volcas were purchased second hand from Guitar Center."
