"The Bit 99 is one of the first synthesizers from which traditional knobs and sliders have been banned. The edit method is easy to understand. The Bit 99 can produce a wide variety of sounds but bass sounds are the best. With a polyphony of three notes, instead of six normally, you can have two sounds layered! Possibilities are almost unlimited and if the 99 patches are not enough you can save the data to tape and load it when you want! This synth was used by 808 State but the synth sounds a lot like Orbital's "In-sides" album. A rackmount version was also released, called the Bit-01..."

It is a great American drum machine. It is very flexible - for every beat and every sound in a pattern you can set volume and pitch to your needs, similar to the E-mu SP-12. It has a groovy sequencer! One of my favourite drum machines.

QuNexus Now Shipping

"QuNexus: the World's First Portable, Professional Keyboard
The Most Playable, Portable, and Powerful Keyboard Controller Now Shipping

BERKELEY, California – May 21, 2013 – Keith McMillen Instruments is proud to announce the shipping of its QuNexus Smart Sensor Keyboard Controller to customers around the world.

The next generation of portable keyboards
Featuring huge performance capabilities in a tiny footprint, QuNexus gives unprecedented expressive control with KMI's patented Smart Sensor technology that transmits pressure, tilt, polyphonic aftertouch, and velocity. QuNexus unites four generations of synthesis–CV, MIDI, USB, and OSC–for maximum flexibility.

“QuNexus is the most important evolution in keyboards since the Erard Escapement was introduced to pianos in 1821,” said KMI founder, Keith McMillen. “QuNexus gives keyboardists forms of expression that were only available to string and horn players. Although playful in appearance, it performs and feels like a serious instrument.”

QuNexus re-imagines the portable MIDI keyboard with 25 vividly illuminated, Smart Sensor keys that are uniquely interactive and fun to play. QuNexus is designed to talk to analog synthesizers with Control Voltage (CV), USB, 5-pin MIDI hardware, and networked OSC applications.

"We are very excited about the arrival of QuNexus," said John Grabowski, Senior Director of Merchandising at Sweetwater Sound. "Its innovative design and unique capabilities have already translated into strong pre-order demand."

Powerful: crank up your performance
Pros are loving the expressive power of polyphonic aftertouch, channel rotation, poly pitch bend, and the ability to incorporate analog synthesizers with Control Voltage (CV).

"I'm having a great time playing QuNexus. KMI is making products that push the boundaries," said keyboard virtuoso, Jordan Rudess.

"Apart from being a slick, portable USB controller with the unique key tilt feature, QuNexus is a convenient MIDI to CV and CV to MIDI converter, and is extremely useful for integrating my analog gear into the digital world," said electronic musician, DJ and remixer, Jonah Sharp aka Spacetime Continuum.

QuNexus' revolutionary keys can be played faster and more accurately than those of a traditional keyboard. Individual key pressure and tilt sensitivity enable fresh nuance.

"QuNexus is a dope piece of equipment for playing chords and lead lines, and I really like how I can express with the tilt pitch bend and get creative like a guitar or horn player, and do things pianos can't do," said pianist, M.C., and producer, Kev Choice.

Native: plug and play
QuNexus is easy to use because it is class compliant and works with iOS, Android, Mac OS, Windows, and Linux with no additional software drivers required. QuNexus is a powerful companion for a wide variety of music software applications such as Reason, Kontakt, Ableton Live, Logic, Arturia software synths, AudioMulch, Animoog, and GarageBand.

Portable: jam anytime, anywhere
Highly portable, durable, and USB powered, QuNexus allows performers to create and perform songs on the go with synths and piano apps easily downloaded to an iPad or laptop. QuNexus pairs very well with popular piano and music learning apps such as Synthesia, Piano Legend, Symphonix Evolution, and Pianist Pro. QuNexus requires very little power and will play all day.

"QuNexus is solving a big problem for a lot of laptop musicians who want a really portable, but powerful, keyboard controller," said recording artist and sound designer, Richard Devine.

QuNexus Details:
- 25 Smart Sensor keys detect velocity, pressure, and tilt
- Polyphonic pitch bend and aftertouch
- 2 CV/Gate inputs; Gate and 3 CV Outputs (16-bit)
- Pitch bend pad
- Octave up/down buttons provide a 7 octave range
- USB powered, receives power directly from iOS device or Mac/PC
- Class compliant for iOS, Android, Mac OS, Windows and Linux, no drivers required
- Portable: 3.3" (84 mm) x 12.8" (325 mm) x 0.43" (11 mm), 0.76 lb (345 g)

QuNexus has a street price of $149.00 USD.

Rob Papen goes in for the soft synth kill with Predator 1.6.4

"'Rob Papen definitely makes some amazing plug-ins; we use Predator all the time, because it has such amazing sounds!'

- Dave Stewart (musician, songwriter, record producer, Eurythmics co-founder)

ECHT, THE NETHERLANDS: virtual instrument and plug-in developer Rob Papen Soundware is proud to announce availability of Predator 1.6.4, the latest update to its killer ‘phat’-sounding soft synth, as of May 21...

Rob Papen Soundware soft synths have always defined cutting-edge contemporary music production: powerful virtual instruments and plug-ins that intermix innovative design, uncompromising sound quality, and musical, production-grade presets designed to make tracks truly shine, whatever the musical genre. Predator — a ‘phat’-sounding killer soft synth that combines inspiring presets and first-class features to create the perfect ‘go-to’ synth for contemporary music production — has been successfully doing just that since its introduction in 2009, as attested to by the long list of professional producers and musicians who have happily put aside their beloved synthesizer hardware in favour of this ambient, drum ’n’ bass, club, hardstyle, hip-hop, and house music mainstay’s thousands of tailor-made presets — many made by Rob Papen himself, long since established as a sought-after sound designer in his own right, having created presets for several well-known companies before going on to found his own namesake company.

There is always room for improvement, however, and with Predator 1.6.4 the best just got a whole lot better — and bigger! First and foremost, studio-based producers and musicians maximising ‘screen estate’ to speed up DAW workflow will appreciate the appropriately- named new Big Screen graphic mode, which instantly increases the original Predator GUI by 150%. After all, making things easier on the eye clearly helps when it comes to making things easier on the ears in this day and age of visually enhancing the computer-based composition and recording process with big screens!

Of course, sound is where the art is, and, given its pedigree, Predator 1.6.4 does not disappoint with over 450 new presets to its numerically lengthened name conveniently arranged in Dance, Classic Synth, Ambient, DubStep, and Hardstyle BD Basses groupings. Indeed, Rob Papen himself is in the fortuitous position of being personally in contact with many of the world’s top producers and musicians who regularly use his company’s products and so can quickly act upon providing requested sounds and features to comfortably remain on the cutting edge of contemporary music production with Predator.

For example, a visit to the Rob Papen HQ by Headhunterz (a.k.a. Dutch hardstyle DJ/producer Willem Rebergen) — recently ranked 11th in DJ Magazine’s annual Top 100 DJs poll — resulted in the aforesaid dedicated HardStyle BD Basses sound bank and also a new distortion effect within Predator 1.6.4 — proof positive of the soft synth’s versatility. Additionally, Dutch DJ Rob Fabrie (a.k.a. DJ Headbanger, The Alienator, Gizeh, and Waxweazle) contributed the new Hardstyle Core BD Basses RF sound bank to Predator 1.6.4 while JoMal has also added his own artist bank of distinctive sounds to the update.

Existing Predator owners can simply login to their Rob Papen user account and download the Predator 1.6.4 update installer for free to access these new cutting-edge sound banks!

Other features new to Predator 1.6.4 include additional Clipper Distortion (with symmetry control) and Tape Chorus effects; Vowel, Formant 2-band, and Formant 4-band readouts (which when selected result in the Distortion dial displaying VOWEL or BANDWIDTH); and External MIDI Capture Mode (that allows a parameter to start changing as soon as the external MIDI controller reaches the displayed preset value).

Looking to add some bite to your contemporary music productions? Then look no further than Predator — now better than ever, thanks to this latest update!

Predator can be purchased as a boxed version from authorised Rob Papen dealers worldwide for €149.00 EUR (including VAT/tax)/$179.00 USD or downloaded directly from Rob Papen here: http://www.robpapen.com/buy-predator.html

Each delay has sensing inputs to control its speed, direction, and location. In the center of the Cocolase is a woven nest of 8 oscillators called a Sidrassi. The Sidrassi manifests many varieties of movement with which to control the delays..."
