Delptronics-Booty Shaking Breaks

"Aside from the Monotribe, which is the only synthpart on the track ,all sounds are from the = Delptronics LDB1e and Thunderclap modules. I processed with: Modules: Audio Damage ADM02+ADM03, Wiard Boogie Filter
Plugins: Eventide H3000, Audio Damage Eos, Audio Damage Ronin FX: Korg Mini KP

I tracked a couple jam sessions with the LDB1E at either the same or relative tempo, bounced the jam sessions down and used the stems in a new live session to mix and match.

'On The Run' Modular Jam

Published on Feb 2, 2014 allthegeardotnet·7 videos

"I've finally had a chance to record some modular knob twiddling.

This one is totally live, doesn't use a DAW (other than to capture the audio) and uses just the 8 notes of Floyd's On The Run (bar a drone in the background).

The Microbrute powers it all with the sequence programmed in and its own output mixed with the Mutable Instruments Braids and Make Noise STO adding their voices too. Modulation is provided by the Trigger Riot, Pittsburgh Modular Synth Block and Xoac Devices Moskwa sequencer.

Drums are various lovely Tip Top Audio modules.

I've tried to annotate the patch within the video but have probably left out a few incidental bits.

No effects or compression (other than from uploading to YouTube).

Just shout with any questions.

Doepfer Dark Time CV Gate Analog Sequencer with Upgraded Side Panels

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is a mildly used Doepfer Dark Time CV Gate Analog Sequencer IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER with red LEDs with upgraded with much sturdier and more functional aftermarket hand made panels that allow the unit to stand in a tilted, upright position--this prevents you from dropping the unit on its face. The original side panels, as well as the original manual and a power supply are included in this auction.

Manufacturer Description:
Dark Time is an 2 x8 steps analog sequencer with CV/Gate, USB and Midi interface. It is planned in the first place as an add-on for the Dark Energy but may be used even in combination with other Midi, USB or CV/Gate equipment too.
Features overview

two rows with 8 controls each
for each step:
- rotary control (same knob type as Dark Energy)
- red LED
- three-position switch On/Off/Skip
On = trigger signal is active for this step
Off = no trigger for this step
Skip = step is skipped
- three-position switch Stop/Continue/Jump
Stop = sequence stops here
Continue = sequence continues
Jump/Reset:
If only one of the 16 toggle switches is in the Jump position a Reset is carried out (i.e. sequence jumps to stage 1)
If two or more of the switches are in the Jump position the sequence jumps to the next step with the switch in the Jump position and then continues from this position (until another step with the switch in the Jump position is reached and then the same procedure is carried out again)
several operating modes:
1x16 (i.e. the two rows are daisy-chained)
2x8 (i.e. both rows run in parallel)
1-8 Combi (lower row set individual gate lenght of the upper row)
several running directions:
forward
backward
random
several voltage / tuning ranges: 1V, 2V, 5V (corresponding to 1/2/5 octaves)
quantization on/off/custom scale (custom scale not yet available in the first firmware version)
when quantization is "off" the resolution is still 10 bit (i.e. 1024 steps over the full rotating range of each potentiometer), from this the term "quantization off" is not fully correct, with quantization "on"the resolution is 13/25/61 steps for 1/2/5 octaves
transpose via switch (-1/0/+1 octave), Midi/USB or external CV input
timing control, selected by a three position switch:
internal via built-in clock oscillator with frequency and pulsewidth controls
external via Midi/USB
external via analog clock/start/stop
analog interface for CV/gate/clock/Start-Stop (inputs and outputs, 3.5 mm miniature jack sockets)
Midi interface
USB interface (power supply via USB is not possible)
optically adapted to Dark Energy (same knobs, same depth and height, same wooden side plates and so on)
Powered via external power supply (12 AC/min. 400mA)
powering the device via USB is not possible, because the analog circuits require a dual voltage (+/-12V)."

OP-1, Oplab and TS-2, TS-3 and TS-4 Sensors

Published on Feb 2, 2014 djthomaswhite·89 videos

"This video provides a brief overview of the functionality of the Teenage Engineering Oplab, as well as direct examples of how it can be used with the TS Sensor series including the Flip, Poke and Tap Sensors. Flip is an accelerometer, Poke is a pressure sensor and Tap is a piezzo electric trigger creation device.

I show how to use Flip as a pitch modulation tool for synths, how to use Flip and Poke to trigger and change the pitch of synth notes, and finally how to use Tap to trigger both synth and drum sounds, with a section on using Flip and Tap to trigger and select sounds while playing.

These sensors are all currently available from Teenage Engineering as is the Oplab. The Oplab has far more uses thatn presented here. I hope to have more videos showing connecting external devices together with the OP-1 and to each other (sans OP-1) to demonstrate the broad scope of what it can do as a studio tool.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out another one of my videos. Thanks to Tobias at TE for getting me hyped up on how to use the sensor series!"

iPad Running Cassini and Sunrizer with the Bitstream 3X and MKS-80

Published on Nov 30, 2013

"In the video I have focused on illustrating how one might use two iPad synthesizer apps and a hardware synthesizer together including Cassini, Sunrizer, and the MKS-80. The BS3X is used as both the iPad interface and MKS-80 controller. No computer is required, but a simple change of cable allows for a computer to be integrated into this setup because the MOTU UltraLite interface and standalone mixer has MIDI I/O. In other words two MIDI interfaces are still necessary with a computer, but prior to this experiment I was only using the BS3X as a controller for the MKS-80 and bypassing the class compliant USB MIDI interface functionality. Since the USB hub was required I also added the QuNexus to the setup. This was dedicated to feeding notes into the arpeggiator in Cassini. The keyboard controller was split so that in the low end I could play the MKS-80 effect then tweak it with the BS3X knobs and sliders as it decayed. In the upper end of the same keyboard I played a lead sound programmed in Sunrizer.

KORG TRIDENT polyphonic and programmable synth SN 331121

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Trident is a polyphonic and programmable instrument with three independent sections - Synthesizer, Brass, and Strings, released in 1980.

It was last year technically tested by X-TENDED Berlin.

It features 8 voices of polyphony and two of the instrument sections can be played simultaneously while in Split Keyboard mode. Each section has its own unique VCO voice architecture, VCF (filter) types, and LFO capabilities. The Brass section's VCF and Envelope Generators are virtually the same as the Synthesizer section, allowing the Brass section to be used for generating additional synthy sounds as well as faux-brass sounds. The String section has some unique features as well such as a "Bowing" effect. Another unique effect included is a global flanger that can self-oscillate! Flanger controls include Speed, Feedback, Intensity and Manual.

The Trident featured 16 user memory patches. In addition there were three preset memory patches for Piano 1, Piano 2 and Clavi. No midi function!"

Vintage 1983 Roland DG Compu Music CMU-800R Analog Synthesizer for Apple II

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

via the seller: "The Roland Compu Music CMU-800R is a four-channel mixer with internal preset voices and sequencer software for an Apple II or PC, built in 1983. There is a ribbon cable out the back. It features analog synthesis with fixed sounds. Four note polyphony in the chord section, monophonic bass and melody synth sections, and an analog drum section.

The Chord/Melody section has only 1 sound. The drum section is similar to the TR-606 Drumatix, and the bass section is similar to the TB-303 Bassline (some limited adjustments in sound were possible via software). It has separate melody, bass, chord, rhythm, mix outputs. There's also 8 cv/gate outs to run external analog equipment by control voltages, and there's a click in/out. On the face it has knobs for portamento, Melody sustain & decay, Bass decay, and Chord decay. It also has volume level sliders for each of the instruments and a master volume slider. The software uses a similar music programming method as the MC-8 or MC-4

I do not own an Apple II, so I can't test. It does power on. The sliders and knobs are all tight and functioning perfect. It is being sold as-is.

It does not come with the interface card or any software."

Anyone know if the software for this is available online?

"This item has had some beneficial work done on it. The normally faded yellow case was repainted lake placid blue by the previous owner before i purchased it. All of the normally problematic key-switch buttons have been replaced recently!!!!! There are super tough tactile style buttons installed, they are very similar to the type that go into video game controllers rated at better than 10000 cycles and they preform flawlessly as they should. These buttons should last for as long as the machine is still working. So, that the buttons retain the correct height and look they have been attached to plastic parts that link up with the modern tactile buttons below. They have a good firm push accompanied by a click when pressed. The old switches bash down like an old computer keyboard keys if you've never used one of these. I have also replaced a few led lights with blue leds and they look great..."

OP-1 Demo for DJ Mark Farina

Published on Feb 2, 2014 djthomaswhite·88 videos

"This is a demo I made for DJ Mark Farina to showcase the OP-1 in an underground house style (my personal favorite type of music). Mark plays funky and underground beats with jazzy elements among many others.

I used the internal radio to take snippets samples from jazz radio announcer for the vocal bits and some of the song elements, although the reworking of them by chopping them in the drum sampler makes them unrecognizable. Using internal FX (Nitro and Punch heavily), LFO's, sequencing, synthesizer bass and drums I arrange all of these elements to the tape tracks. In the video I am showcasing the tape track content by advancing the loop sections forward to make a live arrangement. The buttons on the right I push occasionally trigger the internal CWO FX set to phase shifter sounding mode and the main EQ set to bass kill. Tape stop effects are also used at times, jarring the tape sounds like stopping a turntable while keeping the entire playback in sync and time. Towards the end there is a looped key I hold down which is a sample with a loop point and a LFO-controlled filter which causes the slow sweep up and down. There is digital noise I added by recording this at very low gain and boosting to prevent piracy of this song. My intention is to take the parts out via USB and dump them into Logic where I will make a proper planned arrangement with mastering and levels for release on Natural Rhythm Music as "Track for Mark."

Mark, I hope you like the demo. This is but a small taste of what you can do with the OP-1, but for us DJ's taking small bits of audio and re-purposing them is key to making funky tracks for the clubs. I figured the best way to introduce you to the OP-1 would be in this style.

Thanks for stopping by to check out another one of my videos!"
