"Doepfer Dark Energy Mark I. Serial # on upper-back. The only cosmetic wear is on its bottom where it sat on my desk. No scratches, no dust. I have the original box from Doepfer Musikelektronik/GmbH in Gräfelfing, Germany. The 41 page instruction manual in English. US power supply. And of course its two original orange patch cables. It is in very good shape.

Not only is it a great stand-alone synthesizer/full synth-voice with plenty of modulation options that work perfectly with Eurorack gear but it's also a MIDI-to-CV converter/interface (which it works great at). Its got 5 pin MIDI and MIDI-over-USB. Its got CV/Gate Eurorack standard CV/1 Volt per Octave. This model is no longer in production due to the lack of Curtis filters. Doepfer now makes a Mark II. This is a killer little synth. Hope it goes to a good home where it will be used more."

Roland's Single Knob Synth for Cars

ZZ_FOS2015 from GLM on Vimeo.
ZZ First Glance - Goodwood Festival of Speed 2015

What you are looking at is an actual synthesizer for cars, specifically for the GLM Model ZZ electric sports car in the video above and pictured below. Electric cars do not have traditional engines that produce the rumble you translate into raw power so the audio has to come from somewhere. In this case it will be coming from Roland's SuperNATURAL synthesizer engine. Hopefully they'll make an iPad editor for it so you can program in your own sounds. :) Map the pedals, wipers, windows, turn signals, etc. to different MIDI CC values and you are good to go, freaking this shit out of people. Imagine that? No wobble bass please...

The official press release:

"Japanese Auto Maker and Musical Instrument Manufacturer Partner to Co-Develop Electric Sports Car Driving Sound

Roland and GLM creating neo-futuristic driving sound system using world-leading synthesizer technology

Hamamatsu, Japan, August 18, 2015 — Roland Corporation and GLM Co., Ltd., have announced an agreement to co-develop a neo-futuristic driving sound generation system for GLM’s electric sports car. In this unprecedented collaboration between the world’s leading electronic musical instrument maker and the manufacturer of Japan’s first mass-marketed electric sports car, the driving sound system will be designed using Roland’s renowned SuperNATURAL® synthesizer technology.

Herbie Hancock, Jimmy Page, George Duke and many more of the world’s most talented musicians have relied on Roland synthesizers to create music. The new driving sound system for GLM’s ZZ model will use this same professional synthesizer technology to produce sonically rich, studio-quality sounds. In addition to refined sound quality, the system will have the ability to change with each driver’s real-time driving experiences. GLM and Roland are committed to creating a driving sound generation system that provides a one-of-a-kind driving experience that rivals anything currently on the market.

Roland’s innovative SuperNATURAL* synthesizer technology will power the ZZ model’s sound generation system with dynamic and dramatic sounds that seamlessly change depending on real-time driving situations like acceleration, deceleration, and motor load variances on sloping roads. This exclusive technology is based on responsiveness, which is especially important when recreating the subtleties of acoustic musical instruments electronically. That same technology will be used to create ingenious neo-futuristic sounds that will give sports car enthusiasts the experience of driving a space ship on the road. Electric sports cars are more popular now than ever, and as environmental concerns escalate, some drivers are learning to appreciate quieter electric engines. Driving sounds are still crucial for many, however – especially drivers of high-performance vehicles and those who want to have a fun and fulfilling driving experience.

For decades, the industry standard for reproducing the sound of traditional musical instruments was PCM sampling. The challenge with sampling is that most acoustic instruments respond differently to how hard they are struck, blown or bowed – most acoustic instruments grow brighter as they get louder, for example. By meticulously modeling the subtle characteristics and responsiveness of acoustic instrument sounds, Roland was able to create the most realistic electronic music sounds. Roland’s SuperNATURAL technology makes it possible to recreate these nuances electronically, and will be used to create the best driving sounds possible in the electric sports car.

Main features of the Roland sound generation system:

Generates driving sounds depending on the driving situation (e.g. acceleration, deceleration, and motor load variances)
Roland’s acclaimed SuperNATURAL synthesizer technology is used to synthesize dynamic, neo-futuristic sounds, then reproduce them through the car’s stereo speakers
Driving situations are detected by the system in real time through a car-mounted network that measures the car’s speed, pressure on the accelerator pedal, and load to the power system
Drivers can select from several driving sound types based on their personal preference, including neo-futuristic options
The driving sound system option for GLM’s ZZ model featuring Roland’s sound-making technology will be available this fall.

"Korg Maxi Korg, 800 DV, Maxikorg, Vintage Analog Synthesizer, Synth, Univox k-3

Cosmetically in extremely good shape.
It functions very well, with no issues.

You won't see another Maxikorg as clean as this one !

It is a very unique, raw and extremely powerful synthesizer..

The filters operate very smooth on this unit. A very monstrous sound!
a rare and somewhat underrated piece, a very unique sounding Korg that not too many know about.

This was their answer to the raw power of the Minimoog,
but it definitely has its own sound and direction.

It features two oscillators with a sub oscillator each.
The Sub Oscillators can also go into ring mod, which generates strange and harsh/bizarre
analog tones depending on pitches triggered and modulation choices.

Extra long 9 foot power cord.
With foot control, not all model have foot control.

The unit has some minor wear as to be expected for its age."

"I've had this beautiful monster of a synthesizer for several years now, but it's time for it to go along to a new home. It was completely non-functional, but my local tech is a force to be reckoned with and he brought it up to studio perfect condition. The ensemble effect on this synth cannot be replicated-it's gorgeous beyond your wildest dreams. Dont even get me started on the genuine spring reverb hiding inside this monstrous beast. Ken Freeman may have wanted to create an electronic Mellotron because he couldn't afford a tape one, but he managed to create something else entirely that stands on its own as an incredible piece of technology.

Comes with power cable and reproductions of a couple of the manuals. Has some small cosmetic knicks, but is functionally perfect. Two of the lamps on the selector buttons are slightly weak compared to the other two, but still work perfectly.

REGARDING SHIPPING: This thing is heavy and huge, like all the great keyboards of it's time. Shipping cost is built into the price, within reason. If it turns out the shipping is outrageously more than I planned for, I will let you know.

LOCAL PICKUP: I'm located in Detroit, Michigan, but I am totally willing to work something out with respect to a pickup. I'll be attending Knobcon this year, so if you or someone you know is going to Knobcon and can pick it up, I'll bring it there. If you'd like to meet in or around Cleveland, Akron, or Toledo Ohio or anywhere in Michigan (Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor, etc), I'm definitely willing to make that work."

Analogue Solutions TBX-303

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Designed to emulate the sound of the TB-303, this synth does that and more! This is the original model that includes features not on the second version, namely an overdrive and an LFO. This particular unit is in great condition. There is some scratching on the unit (as seen in the photos). All of the knobs, switches, inputs, and outputs work exactly as they should. One thing that should be noted is that there is a slight design flaw that was remedied on the second version: When controlling this synth via MIDI, the lower octaves just make fun out of tune flubby noises. It isn't until you reach the higher octaves that it starts to sound like a synth. It's not a fault with the unit, just the way it was designed. It still works a-okay...

key features of the tbx-303:
pure analogue voice circuitry.
accurate tb303 circuitry clone.
physically the same size and layout.
extra tone controls and circuits for more sound variety e.g. lfo, crossmod.
rugged steel construction.
midi in for software sequencer control."

Analogue Solutions Telemark

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"Up for auction today is an Analogue Solutions Telemark. This is a great sounding synth that bases its architecture on the original SEM but with more patch points. Being semi-modular in nature, it doesn't get much more versatile than this. This particular unit is in immaculate condition. Aside from scratches around the screw holes, it is in perfect cosmetic condition. All of the knobs, switches, inputs, and outputs work exactly as they should...

Key Telemark Features
Semi Modular Analogue monosynth
Pure analogue voice & modulation circuitry
Sub-Oscillator / Divider – for more beef
Ring Modulation
Patch points to allow more sound types, and to cross-patch with your modular synth’s
SEM type sound
Similar SEM layout
More features than the original SEM such as Sample and Hold, LFO Square wave, Noise, extra inputs, many more signal modulation options via rotary switches
Plenty of modulation possibilities
Rugged steel construction
MIDI In for software sequencer / keyboard control

Rare Early Moog Prodigy Synthesizer SN 1702 with CV Mods

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This Prodigy has never been gigged and is in near mint condition!

It has a very low serial number of 1702 and includes a bit of history-its mod work was done by the trusted and iconic Lipham Music Co in Gainsville FL where a young Tom Petty worked in the late 1960s after taking lessons there from Don Felder, one of the original Eagles.
Lipham regulars included The Allman Brothers, Blackfoot, Iron Butterfly, Tony Joe White and The Royal Guardsmen and Bo Diddley.

It recently had $400 worth of work done by Music Technology in Springfield VA including replacement of caps, LED, regulator, resistors, set volts per octave and tuned oscillators and has not been used since. The original mod cables are included in the price. They are clearly marked and there is a schematic diagram on the back of the synth.
There is a tiny chip in one of the keys (see photo) other wise it is in beautiful original condition.

The Prodigy is an incredible machine with a totally gorgeous classic Moog sound and very heavy bass capabilities. The filter on it is the most organic of all the vintage Moogs, and is the go to for a vintage Moog short of a Model D. With two oscillators and *THE* Moog filter, this little synth stands tall among the rest of the classics."

Oberheim OB-X SN 793401 with Kenton MIDI

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Interesting note about the the earlier 'block font' logo.

"The Oberheim OB-X was intended to be a more convenient version of the Oberheim Four Voice, with voice cards that are very similar to the SEM module. Unlike the Four Voice, the OB-X had a unified interface for changing parameters and proper patch storage (thirty two patches in four banks of eight). Unlike the later OB-Xa and OB-8, the voice circuits in the OB-X are all discrete components, giving it a sound much more like the SEM based synthesisers (it also makes it easier to repair as there are no hard to obtain chips).

This is one of the first ones made, with a serial number from 1979 and the earlier 'block font' logo rather than the later 'cursive' one. The serial number label also shows it was built as, and still is, a four voice model. I bought this synth in 2010 from Tonetweakers in the USA, who fully restored it before shipping it to the UK. I then took it to Kenton Electronics, who fitted a MIDI retrofit that allows the synth to both transmit and receive MIDI. As part of the restoration, the keyboard bushings were replaced so the keys are level (I've included a shot looking straight on at the keyboard to show this).

The synth has spent the last five years in my little home studio and has never been gigged, and it can be heard on a number of tracks on my Soundcloud page. This is the same kind of synth used by the likes of Japan and Killing Joke - it provides the amazing sounds on Killing Joke's 'Night Time' album, including the legendary track 'Love Like Blood'. I really don't want to part with this synth, but I need to pay for work on my money pit of a car!.."

Coco the Cat Covers Good Vibrations with a Mini Theremin

Coco Mini-Theremin Demo Published on Dec 25, 2014 mdaane1

Good Vibrations - Theremin intro

Synth trivia: the theremin sound on Good Vibrations was actually the Tannerin.

"The Electro-Theremin was a unique electronic musical instrument developed by trombonist Paul Tanner and amateur inventor Bob Whitsell in the late 1950s to produce a sound to mimic that of the theremin.[1][2] The Tannerin was a later re-creation of the original. The instrument features a tone and portamento similar to that of the theremin (or thereminvox), but with a different control mechanism. It consisted of a sine wave generator with a knob that controlled the pitch, placed inside a wooden box. The pitch knob was attached to a slider on the outside of the box with some string. The player would move the slider, thus turning the knob to the desired frequency, with the help of markings drawn on the box.

The instrument was custom-built at Tanner's request. Tanner appreciated the theremin's sound, but wanted greater control of pitch and attack. The Electro-Theremin uses mechanical controls, a long slide bar for the pitch (analogous to the slide of the trombone that was Tanner's main instrument) and a knob to adjust volume. This contrasts with the hand movements in space that formed the original theremin's signal feature. The Electro-Theremin also produces a slightly less complex timbre than the original. This is not due to the nature of the instrument, but due to Dr. Theremin's intentional harmonic generation in the output of the Theremin, which Tanner did not do."
