Zero Hybrid Synth FM Bass Tutorial
"Introducing Zero Hybrid Synthesizer. In this video, Fretless Fingers walks through the features of the synth. Like what you see? Zero is available for free trial and purchase in the Propellerhead Shop. http://bit.ly/1MOHogB"
"Zero Hybrid Synthesizer brings modern FM synthesis to the Reason rack. Featuring six operators with tons of waveform possibilities and a powerful algorithm matrix, you can create unique FM sounds not previously possible in Reason.
But it's not just for FM.
Zero also packs in additive, subtractive, and RM synthesis, flexible graphical envelopes, and three high quality on-board effects; chorus, delay, and reverb.
Factory presets by renowned sound designers Aiyn Zahev, eXode, and Navi Retlav Studio provide you quick access to a wide variety of sounds, like EDM plucks, lush pads, and aggressive bass.
Zero is a powerful beast, but still user friendly and fun for experimentation.
Product details
Zero packs additive, subtractive, FM, and RM synthesis into one very flexible and powerful synth. Six additive waveform generators, called operators, can modulate each other through frequency or ring modulation. There are two multi-mode filters for subtractive synthesis. Low frequency modulation is available through dedicated LFOs and envelopes in the operators, two global LFOs, and a comprehensive mod matrix. Three high quality on-board effects; chorus, delay, and reverb, complete the signal path.
Presets
300 factory presets designed by Aiyn Zahev, eXode, and Navi Retlav Studio provide you quick access to a wide variety of fresh sounds. Looking for EDM presets? Aiyn Zahev and eXode give you their best work.
Operators
Zero's operators have powerful additive synthesis engines with virtually endless possibilities. Start with a variable sine/triangle/saw/pulse waveform and duplicate it at any of 126 harmonic frequencies with adjustable magnitude and phase. Tweak the final output by setting the number of harmonics and spacing between harmonics. The operator waveforms are generated using up to 1024 sine oscillators for superb quality. Unison of up to 4 voices is provided.
Audio Rate Modulation
Frequency Modulation (FM) and Ring Modulation (RM) can be controlled by adjusting knobs in the matrix section. The ability to use FM and RM with the many unique waveform possibilities of the operators is one of the main reasons why Zero stands out in the Rack Extension crowd.
Filters
Zero offers two multi-mode filters, each with 16 modes. Each operator can be individually mixed into the filter inputs and the filters can be routed in series. The latest Zero Delay Feedback technology was incorporated into the filters for a state of the art design.
Low Frequency Modulation
Zero has very flexible envelopes, and plenty of them. Click and drag editing takes place in the graphical display so you can easily see the envelope shape. Each envelope can have up to six stages, with either free or tempo synced times. And the envelopes can be looped for powerful modulation possibilities. Each operator has a dedicated LFO, plus two global LFOs are available. A mod matrix provides routing to over 150 destinations.
Effects
The last stage in the signal path is the built-in effects. The Roland Dimension D style chorus nicely thickens up a sound. The Delay offers many tweakable parameters beyond the basics. And the reverb is a high quality Feedback Delay Network algorithm. The effect parameters can be modulated, nice for things like delay or reverb ducking.
CV
Zero has numerous CV ins and outs for external control and modulation."

"Ambient musician and composer, Robert Rich, is well-known for creating immersive soundscapes that transport the listener to another place. While studying in Stanford's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics during the 1980s, Robert would perform nine hour 'Sleep Concerts' - influencing the REM sleep cycle of the audience with auditory stimulus.
During a visit to the Moog Music factory in Asheville, NC, Robert engaged in an atmospheric session with the Moog Modular System 55. Controlling the massive hand-wired synthesizer, Robert orchestrates a sonic continuum that evokes the perpetual organic motion of the natural world.
Recently, to celebrate the legacy of the Minimoog Voyager RME, Robert composed a three song EP of evolving ambience titled, "Hiding In Daylight". Rich's work is a meditative exploration of organic sound, drawing on the rich tonal palette of the Minimoog Voyager RME. Listen and download "Hiding In Daylight" here.
Regarded as a pioneer of the ambient style, Robert Rich's output of surrealist soundscapes and experimental exhibitions spans over three decades. Watch as Robert talks candidly about his earliest musical influences, modular synthesizers, and learning polyrhythm from tree frogs in this video interview [below and previously posted here] from Moog's CAT 5 series."

Dark Sessions 001 - Sleeping giants

Dark Sessions 001 - Sleeping giants -
A patch featuring only the 5U/MU system. The system was triggerd/synched via the Synthesizers.com Q104 Midi interface, getting signals from ableton live. The signal synchs the Corsynth VCLFO and the Hexinvert quad simpleseq. Though the synching wasn't really necessary. Had it running from a different patch and just forgot to unplug it.
The whole thing was put through massive reverb from Ableton Lives own reverb VST. No other post processing.

Supermoon Preparation
Supermoon Preparation from Bryan Noll on Vimeo.
"Performed on a modular synthesizer using Ableton Live for effects and mixing.
http://soundcloud.com/fourhexagons/supermoon-preparation
This piece emerged from the patch I was working on in preparation for a Supermoon music/camping party this weekend at my home in the Catskills. Other artists performing include two snake plants and a handful of people the likes of Gen Ken Montgomery, G Lucas Crane, Joe and Jon from Data Garden, Lampeo, et al.
The patch is intended to facilitate a 30-minute live set, while the recorded piece is one movement of the entire set. Tides is set up to be played either by René (as we hear in this movement) or by Yarns’ arpeggiator and/or directly from the QuNexus. Ableton Live provides additional reverb, delay, filtering, mixing, mutes, and looper, all controlled without the need to see the computer screen using an iPhone 6 running a custom Lemur template.
Variation in the patch is created by changing time using Yarns tempo and clock divisions and the steps and fills of ADDAC402, while changing pitch/tonality with René, QuNexus, Disting, and of course shaping envelopes, wiggling of knobs, and jamming out the effects with the Lemur interface.

You will love the in-your-face sound of this synth.
Comes with User Manual and Power Cord.
This Just came back from Waldorf in Germany, I asked them to go over everything - The invoice is my proof of service. (See Photos).
The blue tape on the back is to cover a hole for an external power supply I was using after the original died. Waldorf replaced the internal power supply so that works now.
Some usual wear and tear for a synth of this age going in and out of racks.
On to the enhancements:
-Old LCD display has been replaced with a 40,000 hour Third Generation OLED Display. This thing really pops and the response is very fast.
-New Knobs - Phoenix Transparent knobs to be exact - No nasty hand oils left over from the previous owner :)
-Firmware Update - This new update has a new boot layout with a logo and includes all the latest fixes from Waldorf.

Roland Releases New SYSTEM-100 PLUG-OUT Synthesizer
It looks like we have a new PLUG-OUT synthesizer based on the original Roland System-100. Note the EMS pin style patch routing matrix on the lower left. The PLUG-OUT is available for the System-1/1m, AU & VST. With the 1m you get the physical semi-modular patching capabilities. This brings the total number of individual PLUG-OUT synths for the System-1/1m to five including the System-1, SH-101, SH-2, and Promars.
"The SYSTEM-100 PLUG-OUT Software Synthesizer is a modern reproduction of the now-legendary semi-modular monosynth from 1975. It integrates the features of the original Model 101 Synthesizer and Model 102 Expander units, resulting in an incredibly fat and uniquely versatile two oscillator monosynth with modular routing capabilities. Designed for SYSTEM-1 and 1m as well as Mac and PC hosts, the new SYSTEM-100 uses Analog Circuit Behavior to faithfully recreate every detail of the warm, expansive sound of the original, with a level of authenticity that can only come from Roland.
Perfect replica of SYSTEM-100 sound and behavior
ACB provides expansive, liquid tone of the original
Model 101 Synthesizer and Model 102 Expander in a single instrument
Sophisticated architecture with dual VCO, dual LFO, S&H, Ring Mod, Noise and more
Versatile semi-modular patching capabilities
Integrated Phaser with modulation inputs, Reverb and Delay
Advanced arpeggiator with Scatter capabilities
VST, AU and PLUG-OUT compatible
Modular Monosynth
Created in 1975, and both distinctive and sought-after to this day, the SYSTEM-100 broke new ground for monosynths. In addition to its ultra-fat oscillators and creamy filters, it had modular patching capabilities, vastly increasing the sound design options. Pairing a Model 101 Synthesizer with a Model 102 Expander gave you two VCOs and two LFOs to work with, as well as Sample and Hold, Ring Modulation and a Noise Generator that all worked seamlessly together. With the addition of its modular routing capabilities, the SYSTEM-100’s sonic palette was staggering - effortlessly turning out the fattest of bases, in-your-face sync leads, dense textures, and exotic soundscapes.
The New SYSTEM-100
With the new SYSTEM-100 PLUG-OUT Synthesizer, the sound of this legendary instrument is perfectly reproduced and brought to life with Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB). ACB faithfully captures the sound and feel of our most revered classics, using original design specs, and a detailed, part-by-part analysis of each analog circuit. While the sound and behavior is reproduced with total accuracy, there are a number of modern additions that improve upon the original design.
The features of the original Model 101 Synthesizer and Model 102 Expander are combined into a single interface, allowing you to use both VCOs, both LFOs, S&H, Ring Mod and so on with no patching. Of course, the signal path can be altered and parameters modulated by connecting cables between the patch points. A new 14x15 Routing Matrix makes for super-quick patching with all connections still visually reflected as patch cables on the SYSTEM-100’s control panel. You can toggle patching on/off as well as quickly see the entire signal flow with convenient buttons right above the Routing Matrix.
Like other PLUG-OUTs there are dual ADSR envelopes (VCF and VCA) and the advanced pattern generation of the Scatter equipped Arpeggiator. Six arpeggio types with six step settings combine with variable Scatter type and depth to create a seemingly infinite selection of patterns. A lush phaser with modulation inputs joins the superb reverb and delay, creating an effects section perfectly suited for synth sounds.
PLUG-IN and PLUG-OUT
While multiple instances of the SYSTEM-100 plug-in can be used in any VST or AU compatible DAW, the SYSTEM-100 PLUG-OUT Software Synthesizer offers seamless integration and unique capabilities for SYSTEM-1 and SYSTEM-1m owners, including knob-per-function hardware control, stand-alone portability, and semi-modular patching capabilities (1m only).
Connect a SYSTEM-1/1m to your computer and it becomes a dedicated controller, only lighting the appropriate knobs and sliders pertinent to the SYSTEM-100. Transfer sounds back and forth between the hardware and software and even use the SYSTEM-1/1m as a high-quality audio and MIDI interface. Or break free entirely and PLUG-OUT directly to the SYSTEM-1/1m, creating a stand-alone hardware SYSTEM-100 synthesizer with real physical controls that can go anywhere and doesn’t require a computer.
With the SYSTEM-1m, you can even use the physical audio and CV/Gate patch points on the hardware with any of the available PLUG-OUT synths. This means semi-modular versions of classic Roland synths are now possible. Pairing the SYSTEM-100 with the SYSTEM-1m gives you dedicated high-resolution controls and both virtual and physical routing and modulation capabilities. The results are simply mind-bending."
