That's one expensive synth.

"Here is a fantastic Yamaha CS80 with midi kit installed. The CS80 is in a league of its own, with naturally detuning oscillators that add a richness and mass that is unmistakably CS80. Famously used on the Blade Runner soundtrack, and by Brian Eno, Daft Punk, Genesis and Toto, the CS80 is capable of a ridiculous amount of sounds. This synth has had the power supply rebuilt, is impeccably maintained and tuned, has original case and stand, original printed tech, tuning and operation manuals, and is remarkably clean for its age."

Soundfly Introduces Chiptune Crash Course

MATRIXSYNTH sponsor Soundfly has introduced a new course on creating Chiptune music.

"Online music school Soundfly has just launched a new free one-of-a-kind course to teach DIY musicians how to make music using the sound chips of old video game systems, such as the Game Boy. It's taught by critically acclaimed chiptune artist Chipocrite. He has performed nationally at major events, such as Vans Warped Tour; provided soundtracks for video games, online videos, and commercials, including a nationally-run GameStop ad; recorded numerous albums, including the award-winning 2011 release "Hit and Run"; and appeared on talk shows, among other accolades.

By the end of part one, students will be able to program their own version of the C major scale — a key first step in creating more elaborate songs. Part two, which is launching soon after, will dive into more complicated arrangements using four channels. The course is mobile-compatible and can be accessed for free by anyone anywhere in the world at the following link: https://soundfly.com/courses/getting-started-with-chip-music. Students don't need anything but a computer and an internet connection."

Demo of the CZ-1 synth chip with a Roli Rise

Published on May 23, 2016 Steve Bryson

"This is another demonstration of the CZ-1 phase distortion chip by dsp synthesizers (http://www.dspsynth.eu), this time with the chip in the module I built for it. Two of them, actually. At first we have just the CZ-1 module. The slide dimension (position of the finger on the 'key') controls the CZ phase distortion index. The waveforms coming out of the two CZ-1 modules are on the screen in the background. Then at 1:27 I add a Morphing Terrarium to balance the sound a bit and get a little musical. No filters are used in this patch."

Hypocritical (Minilogue,Volca FM x2, Reface DX, Beats, MPX-16)

Published on May 22, 2016 Metatron's Cube

"Sort an experimentation in recording and mixing. The instruments were recorded in mono, as opposed to in stereo(we usually do everything in stereo because most of our effects allow it, and still recorded the samples in stereo), and then placed into their own "spots" as if amped on a stage. Now that I look back, I should have placed them according to the video(it's almost the reverse). Oh well, live and learn. Enjoy the week everyone, thanks for watching and listening!
