New Jupiter-X vs. Vintage Juno-106: PATCH MATCH™ **No Talking**

Published on Mar 3, 2020 MR TUNA Music

"Doing my best to recreate as-close-to-identical patches as I can manage on the new Roland Jupiter-X and the original Juno-106 to show off any noticeable differences between the two. Certainly the Jupiter-X is a much more capable tool with a lot of sound-design and power packed into a modern digital instrument; but for this comparison I will specifically focus on the pre-loaded Juno-106 engine included from the factory.
There are no added effects or processing other than the that of the famous Juno chorus function-- which you'll know immediately by their tell-tale noise machines. (You can turn this setting down or off entirely on the JP-X)

It's an exciting new episode of PATCH MATCH (from scratch!)™"

Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence" performed (almost) entirely on the Novation Circuit

Published on Mar 3, 2020 Payton Carter

"Download my music here - https://paytoncarter.bandcamp.com

While I was growing up, my parents always had the 80's new wave radio playing in the house, so I got to know bands like The Cure, New Order, Talking Heads, Tears for Fears, and so on. Depeche Mode has always been one of my favorites, and I think their music has been a huge inspiration and influence for me. I thought it might be fun to try and recreate one of their tracks on the Novation Circuit.

Everything except for the guitar is coming from the Circuit. I overdubbed the guitar after recording the Circuit part. The synth patches are from Cuckoo's complete Circuit pack, and the drum samples are from the Post-Industrial Punch pack available from Novation. I also sampled chords from the Fairlight "Sarrar" sound (the choir sound) on Arturia's Analog Lab, which are playing on drum track 4. Audio was recorded into Reaper and mastered with Ozone Elements."

Happy 3.03 Day - Acid Dub

Published on Mar 2, 2020 Honeysmack

"A very happy 3.03 day to all my family and friends around the world. It is my hope in the not too distant future, people will celebrate 3.03 day as a high holiday across the world. In the meantime, here's my experimental acid dub jam to celebrate this day with 2x Roland TB-303 (one Devilfish), Elektron Octatrack live sampling the 303s and providing most of the effects. The Elektron Analog RYTM provide the drum sounds, with a little additional reverb from an Ensoniq DP/2 off camera.

Totally unrehearsed and improvised jam. No computer or DAW were hurt during the making of this video.

::vtol:: drop from ::vtol:: on Vimeo.
more info - http://vtol.cc/filter/works/drop

"The object is a small automatic device consisting of a Geiger counter (a device that registers ionizing radiation), electronics used to generate sound and control all processes, and also a hydraulic system consisting of a container with water, a set of pipes, a valve, and a pump.

The operating principle is that whenever an ionising particle activates the Geiger counter, the valve releases a water droplet, which falls into the container. This leads to a splash and oscillations in the water, which are registered by sensors. The amplitude of the waves and interference of numerous falling droplets are also detected by the system of optical sensors. All these data activate and control the sound synthesis system. In turn the sound constantly mutates and changes, owing to the non-linear nature of the emerging oscillations and the random falling of droplets. However, there are also some regularities: the lower the radiation, the calmer the behaviour of the system.

Conceptually, the device is a hybrid of a scientific instrument and musical installation, but is in actual fact a small fountain. The object is the embodiment of a perceptual paradox. On the one hand, the ionizing radiation (radiation) is destructive and frightening in its imperceptibility. On the other hand, it is constantly present in space and surrounds us (background radiation). At the same time, the sound, which is constantly dependent on the intensity of radiation, becomes a direct indicator of atmospheric developments, and to a certain extent is a safety indicator. The actual image of the object is sound and its mirror-image visual embodiment of water, the cyclical nature and mediation of sounds and processes induce a more contemplative mood (provided that there is no intense radiation).

The object was created with the support of the Aksenov Family Foundation."

"Original video Master Class was created 3 years ago and was in Russian. All this time I got request from many English speaking people to repeat it in English because they want to know more about the Polivoks. So this is my responce. But to create absolutely new video is not good vecause that original video is as full as possible in details. So I decided to record new sound track with both original speech and my version of English text. This is better (may be not) then to write sub titles. Waiting for your responce. Thank you."

How to use a Raspberry PI as a USB MIDI host

Published on Mar 3, 2020 Floyd Steinberg

"This video shows how to use a Raspberry PI as a USB MIDI host. If you're in a hurry, the important stuff is at 03:16 . ;-) No table of contents needed this time. A USB MIDI host is a device which takes MIDI signals over USB and routes them to other (5-Pin) MIDI outputs. This video shows the shell commands needed to get that running and how to make this permanent, to your RasPi will always act as a MIDI host, even after rebooting.

"The Opus-3 is one great little synth. It was designed by Herbert A. Deutsch from Hofstra University who originally nudged Dr. Robert Moog into building synthesizers and later served as director of sales & marketing for Moog Music. Herb also wrote the owner's manual. The sounds are broken up into 3 categories: Strings, Brass and Organ. Strings and Brass have their own separate VCF (filter) sections, the Organ section has none. The Opus-3 also has 2 sound outputs for an early stereo effect with panning! It's a colorful little synth with clearly laid out sliders and is fairly straight forward. It has classic analog Moog sound quality and is a great source of some string and lower octave techno-organ sounds."
