The Roland FA-06 & System-8 Electronic Rock JAM!
All music & beats from the FA-06, System-8 is playing
via MIDI the Analog Metal Guitar Pluck. I mute parts ON
and OFF thru the JAM until I sweet close. Simple & quick.
This is considered "on the fly" since I'm not using "song mode".
The Roland FA-06 is my favorite workstation, baby! ;)

I love the JD-XA, it is from another world...
Just like the Meteorites I collect, it is super cool, unique & beautiful!
I love how DEEP this synth is, the real synth heads will love it, others
honestly would not know what to do with it. It's a TRIP.
I'm sure even an Alien race would think it is advanced for sonic
creation. I bet there are a few JD-XA's that actually have made it
secretly into space and are being played on other worlds...

Sequential Discontinues The Tempest

via @sequentialLLC

"After nearly 9 years Sequential’s 6-voice analog drum synth Tempest is retiring. To get one while stock lasts, check with an authorized dealer or contact us at http://sequential.com/ask-sequential for referrals. On the bright side, we’re as busy as ever designing new products, so stay tuned!"

See the shop banners on the right for availability. Update: Original intro video from Dave Smith and Roger Linn added below. See this post for the initial announcement of the Tempest including additional pics and videos.

More than just a drum machine, the Tempest was a 6 voice synth with an engine similar to to the 4 voice Poly Evolver and mono Evolver.

via Sequential: "Each of the six analog voices has two analog oscillators plus two digital oscillators (with a large bank of included samples), the classic Curtis analog lowpass filter with audio-rate modulation, an additional highpass filter, analog VCA with feedback, five envelopes, two LFOs, an extraordinary variety of analog modulation routings, and stunning sonic quality, warmth, and punch. Although optimized for drum sounds, it excels at tuned sounds as well, and even doubles as a six-voice analog keyboard synth."

Live coding the Elektron Digitone with ORCΛ

EZBOT

"In this video I finally test out the multi-map feature on the Digitone. What this allows you to do is to set different "sounds" to specific notes or note ranges. I used this feature for the drums. I also spent a great deal of time making the bass synth sound as close to an analog saw as I could - what is cool about this is that I can morph the bass line from an "analog" sound to a very digital FM sound quickly, this is something you really can't do on an analog synth easily if at all.

"Fans of vintage analog sequencers will be glad of the MAQ16/3. It combines the creative potential of an analog sequencer with the advantages of MIDI. MAQ16/3 outputs the sequencing data both as control voltages (CV) and as MIDI events. MIDI Out of the MAQ may be connected to MIDI In of any sound generating MIDI device (Expander, Sampler, Synthesizer) or to a sequencer recording the MAQ data. Additionally 3 Control Voltage and Gate outputs are available for controlling vintage synthesizer equipment (e.g. the A-100 Analog Modular System). The main feature of the MAQ is the real time access to the sequence via 48 rotary potentiometers grouped in 3 rows of 16 dials each. All important parameters like first/last step, MIDI event type, MIDI channel, forward/ backward/ random/ pendulum mode, gate time, tempo and so on are independently assigned to each row and can be changed in real time while the sequence is running. This enables very complex sequences. The rows may not only be used for generating note events but also other important MIDI events or for controlling the length of time for each step. Of course the MAQ allows the synchronisation via MIDI Clock, Start and Stop either as master or as slave.

"Extras:
Easel Buddy accessory box (I designed and built these. There were only 10 made, and this is one of them)
Printed out 60 page manual (Sorry trees, but I'd rather be touching you than looking at a screen while playing with the Easel)

My name is Max Neutra. I am an artist and designer (google me if you are curious). Before I started working in the visual arts, I made electronic music for 10 years, culminating in releasing an album on Mofohifi Records called Automation Addiction in 2010 (it's on Spotify, give it a spin), which features a myriad of unusual sound sources, from synths like the Future Retro 777 and the Dave Smith Evolver, to toys like the Bee Gees rhythm machine and Mego Muson, to a selection of vintage Casio keybaords. (see pic). I have collected and played with many sound toys and synths over the years, and very few transcend the standard definition of what they are like the Music Easel does. Dial up a patch, fire up the sequencer, engage the arpegiator, and you can feel new neural pathways being formed in your brain as you dance your fingers around the keyboard. This is no mere synthesizer. It is a space ship for your mind. Playing with it, you get the impression that with the right sonic signature, you just might tear a hole in the fabric of reality and reveal the true nature of the universe.

If the Make Noise 0-Coast was a Speeder Bike (sure! cool, fun, fast), the Music Easel is the Millennium Falcon.

These days, I am a dad, have a design gig at Meow Wolf (that I love), and I still dabble in electronic music, mostly playing around with my modular setup (Intellijel Metropolis and Atlantis, Euclidian Circles, Tip Top Drums, WMD Fracture, Bassimilus Iteritas Alter, Braids, Bastl Soft Pop, and Varigate 8, with a little sweetening from my Strymon Magneto.) I bought the Easel five years ago, just before my daughter was born. It was probably some kinda panic buy, like, I better get this thing while I still have time to play with it. Although I did get a chance to play around with it, and it is indeed glorious, in the end, it's spending 99% of it's existence packed up, partially because I just don't have much time to mess around these days, and also I like to protect it and keep it as minty fresh as possible."

Classic Roland Synthesizer: JX-3P and PG200 Demonstration with Roland Jupiter 8 Filter

Electric Cafe

Lots of recognizable riffs in this one. See how many you can recognize. There's no mention of the Jupiter-8 filter. I was curious so I looked it up. See below.

"This video showcases the often overlooked Roland JX-3P classic synthesizer from 1983. It was the first Roland synthesizer to leave the factory with MIDI installed and for quite a lot of money you could buy the PG200 to make sounds more conveniently. With a TR-808, TR-909 hooked up to the onboard sequencer you could make some classic techno, house, trance or any other style of electronic music. The JX-03 Boutique copy was supposed to replace the original for those who didn't want the larger older unit but the sounds are not exactly the same and only four note polyphony it is more limited. The 3P may not have the raw power of the Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 but it does have a sound that's definitely professional and powerful enough on any track. Moog, Oberheim, ARP, and other synthesizer manufacturers might have the bottom end you need for some music but the JX-3P is a very underrated machine."

RE the Jupiter-8 filter via Wikipedia: "The VCF was based on the custom Roland IR3109 IC (also used in the filter circuits of the Jupiter-6, later Jupiter-4 and Promars units, MKS-80 rev 4, Juno-6/Juno-60/Juno-106, SH-101, MC-202, JX-3P and packaged in the 80017a chip used in the Juno-106 and MKS-30, among others)."

Interesting. They all sound significantly different though... I owned most of these and the JX-3P seemed to have the most unique sound of the lot. It just has a different character about it.

Modal Argon 8 Wavetable Synthesizer - Firmware V2.0 Expanded Patches (No Talking)

rootsbeets

"This is my first video exploring some of the new patches. I've had the Modal Argon 8 for about a week and this is by far the best synth for the price. Truly a MASSIVE expressive piece of gear! Solid build and athletically pleasing. There is so much potential beyond the stock sounds as well but here are a few that I've tested out so far. Stay tuned for more.

I downloaded the addition patched with the V2.0 Update. Here are the few that I feature throughout the video:

0:00 - 0:37 - 303 Chorus EP
0:52 -3:07 - 309 Ambient Garden
3:27 - 4:24 - 323 Character Patch
4:39 - 5:32 - 329 Soft Vela
5:55 - 7:17 - 348 Brokeass CS80
7:33 - 9:04 - 356 Plink Arp MPE
