VGM #185: Devil's Lab (Final Fantasy III/VI) [Synth Cover]

video by Amie Waters

"Two years ago I was playing through Final Fantasy III/VI and I got so excited about the bass line to the track Devil's Lab. I even teased doing a cover of it, but then life got in the way and I ended up forgetting about it. Ended up seeing a memory on facebook of my tease video and decided to dig this cover out and do it right! I hope you enjoy and think about supporting on Patreon!"

WMD 4TTEN - In-use demo with Rossum Electro-music Assimil8or

video by WMDevices

"Attenuation and offset are often overlooked functions in synthesis and the Eurorack ecosystem. However, they can be a very useful addition to modules that lack knobs but have plenty of CV inputs. 4tten packs 4 channels of attenuation or offset in 4hp, adding fader control to any module in a very little amount of space.

4tten is a simple module. 4 channels of attenuation with fader control. We added 5V normalled to the inputs so you can use it as a variable offset module, basically adding faders to any module you want. Perfect for when your cable management cannot avoid covering a crucial knob and modules that need more hands on control.

In this video, we cover using the 4tten to add fader control to the Rossum Electro-Music Assimil8or. Having hands on control over multiple parameters at once eliminates mid-performance menu diving, as well as access to tonal parameters in real-time, great for changing up energy and feels with simple tweaks."

"4TTEN (pronounced either ATTEN or FOUR-TEN) is a four channel attenuator and offset generator.

Use 4TTEN to attenuate any CV or audio signal by running through the ins and outs.

A +5V voltage source is normalled to each input, making it a standalone offset when there is no cable patched into an input.

Each channel is completely independent.

Ever-so-useful in live performance, we designed this module with 4 sliders for easy maneuverability, visual feedback, and enjoyable to play interface. Make your eurorack modular synthesizer system more playable with 4TTEN!

*** 4TTEN's PCB is 113mm (4.45") tall and may be a tight fit in some cases (TTA Z-Rails especially)***

Highlights

- 4 independent attenuators for Control Voltage and Audio signals

- Performance friendly sliders

- Can be used as 0 to +5V Offset

- Comfortable fader caps from the Performance Mixer

- Only 4 hp!

SPECS:
Size: 4hp
Depth: 30mm(with cables)
Power: +5mA , -5mA
Virtually no drop on 1V/Oct signals.
VERTICAL PCB LENGTH: 113mm (4.45")
IMPEDANCE = (SOURCE + 100ohm ) / 100kohm
UNBUFFERED"

Super Synthesis - PHRSR - Tactile Sequencer

video by Chris McDowell

"Introducing the PHRSR Tactile Sequencer. A descendent of our PH01II module, the PHRSR, pronounced 'phraser', is a fast, fun, and affordable way to generate sequences for your modular synthesizer. check it out, then visit us at www.supersynthesis.com

PHRSR is 6HP and $75."

"The PHRSR (phraser) is a two channel 1-16 step knob recorder / sequencer. Complex sequences with independent step lengths can be created quickly and intuitively. Great for modulation of anything in your synth. Channel A is on the left, B on the right.

CLK: a rising edge on the CLK input will increment the step. External clocking is realized through "hard-sync" of the internal clock. A pulse is output from the CLK output at each increment.

DC: The value to be written into a sequence.

REC: When pressed, the value of DC overwrites the current step's value. When STEPS is also pressed, the length of that sequence will reset to 1 and increment with each clock pulse until either STEPS or REC is released.

Rate: Adjusts the internal clock rate."

Erica Synths Introduces The Cursible from Sacrament Modular

"The Cursible from Sacrament Modular brings effects morphing (and much more) to the Eurorack format. The Cursible is a 14HP wide, 6 channel, morphing effects-send matrix with an incredible feature set and a vast amount of applications from morphing / sequencing through and blending effects through to cadavre exquis style mixing of sound sources or controlled voltages.

The Cursible is developed and manufactured by Erica Synths and with a successful crowdfunding campaign (150 pre-orders) will be available early May. The Cursible has been made available for preorder now through an in-house crowdfunding campaign.

FEATURES:

PIANO MODE:
Send your signal through your effects chains manually via a momentary button push with user-defined fade times.

CLOCK MODE:
Sequence your signal through your effects chains via the clock input. Clock sub-modes include clockwise, counter-clockwise, pendulum and random sequencing options!

CONTROL VOLTAGE MODE:
Morph and switch your way through your effects via the control voltage input / attenuator using any CV source.

MANUAL MODE:
Select your routing using the central knob for a more hands-on approach.

RANDOM MANUAL MODE:
Randomly advance through your sequence with a turn of the central knob.

CV + CLOCK MODE:
Choose your routing destinations using a sample and hold style approach.

FILL OPERATION:
When sequencing through one effects chain at a time isn’t cutting it, use Fill to stack from 0 to all 6 sends and returns!

All modes feature user-defined “morph” timing to allow you to adjust from click-less switching to long attack and decay times and everything in between.

Applications for The Cursible include:
Morphing your signal through 6 reverbs, delays, distortions, waveshapers, flangers, phasers, etc and truly creating your own sound.
Sending your signal to 0-6 destinations in any order you want with adjustable fade times.
Morphing through multiple sound sources to create an ever-evolving oscillator timbre.
Morphing through multiple cv sources for an utterly unique, evolving voltage source. Sequencing oscillator “stacks” for rich, blooming soundscapes.
And much, much more.

Sacrament founder Nero Bellum had this to say about The Cursible:
The Cursible was the first idea that I had for a Eurorack module. As simple as it sounds, I was in the middle of a patch when I thought to myself “you know what would be really cool?” I then grabbed a notebook and scratched out the first rough sketch of what it would do and what it would look like. Effects always play a heavy role in my sound design and I love finding new ways to use them. With The Cursible I wanted to take everything a step further by creating a module that would allow you to create multiple effects chains (up to 6) and then morph your signal through them. While working on the design (in collaboration with Erica Synths) we discovered other ways that the module could be used to great effect such as morphing / sequencing through cv / audio sources then added features that we thought would make the module even more useful such as the Stack and Piano modes."

"The Matrix 6 was one of the last few synthesizers from Oberheim to come out during the mid-eighties following the classic OB-series. The Matrix 6 utilized high-tech but less expensive digital and midi features and still retained a totally analog sound. It did this by using DCOs (digitally controlled oscillators) to provide stability, programmability and more. All the Matrix synthesizers featured Matrix Modulation which allows for extremely wild virtual patching for almost unlimited range of sounds and modulation capabilities!

The Matrix 6 is a very popular synthesizer today because it offers access to the legendary sounds and power of the Matrix 12, though not as meaty but at a fraction of the cost. Each of its 6 voices has a pair of DCOs, a low pass filter, 2 VCA's, 3 envelope generators, 2 LFO's, and 2 ramp gens for a variety of complex analog pads, basses and sounds.

The synth is presented in the conditions shown in the photos, with some scratches due to time."
