62HP Pingable Percussion Party Box - Super Synthesis

video by Perfect Circuit

"In this episode of the 62HP series, we’ve loaded up our Intellijel Palette case with a plethora of cool modules from Super Synthesis, alongside a few other key modules to build out a Pingable Percussion instrument. For our purposes, a 'ping' is a gate or trigger signal that will be used for things like triggering internal envelopes or resetting the phase of clock rates.

The centerpiece of this system is the PHRSR from Super Synthesis, a two-channel phrase recorder that captures knob movements in sequences up to 16 steps in length. One thing which makes this module unique is that the external clock input doesn’t override the internal clock, but rather it performs a hard sync reset that can be manipulated to create swing, syncopations, and other metric transformations. Also from Super Synthesis, we’re running dual 2OPFM modules for percussive FM sounds, the VCAR for CV controllable attack-release envelopes, and the ISO two-band DJ-style EQ.

We’ve also chosen a few multi-functional modules to give our compact Eurorack system a bit more versatility. The ever-flexible Ornament and Crime, malleable Pique from After Later Audio (based upon Peaks from Mutable Instruments), and the Milky Way multi-effects module by Endorphin.es help this little box pack a punch well above its weight. For sequencing, we’re relying upon the trusty SQ1 from Korg, and a special edition PO-133 Street Fighter Pocket Operator from Teenage Engineering processed by the Ritual Electronics Guillotine adds some additional sonic accompaniment.

Super Synthesis - 2OPFM pluckin' and...

video by Chris McDowell

"2OPFM is 6HP of really chill FM for your eurorack modular synthesizer, for $75."

via Super Synthesis

2OPFM is a digital 2-operator FM voice in 6HP. It features 2 sine wave oscillators and a decay envelope to control their amplitudes. Perfect for growling percussion and plucky melodies.

: The length of the internal decay envelope. The associated jack is an offset to the slider.

FM: The amount of FM modulation of the carrier. The associated CV input is an offset to the slider.

KHz: The base frequency of the carrier oscillator. The associated CV input is an offset to the pot.

RATIO: The ratio of modulator frequency to carrier frequency.

OP1: The main output.

TRIG: A rising edge triggers the built in decay envelope. This envelope modulates the amplitude of the carrier, as well as the modulator (at a slightly faster rate) Incoming triggers are ignored when the envelope is active, thus allowing for frequency division based on the decay slider.

While the look of 2OPFM has changed, this demo video from version 1 modules still is a great intro to its features. The main addition here is voltage control of the internal envelope :) "

Super Synthesis - PHRSR - Tactile Sequencer

video by Chris McDowell

"Introducing the PHRSR Tactile Sequencer. A descendent of our PH01II module, the PHRSR, pronounced 'phraser', is a fast, fun, and affordable way to generate sequences for your modular synthesizer. check it out, then visit us at www.supersynthesis.com

PHRSR is 6HP and $75."

"The PHRSR (phraser) is a two channel 1-16 step knob recorder / sequencer. Complex sequences with independent step lengths can be created quickly and intuitively. Great for modulation of anything in your synth. Channel A is on the left, B on the right.

CLK: a rising edge on the CLK input will increment the step. External clocking is realized through "hard-sync" of the internal clock. A pulse is output from the CLK output at each increment.

DC: The value to be written into a sequence.

REC: When pressed, the value of DC overwrites the current step's value. When STEPS is also pressed, the length of that sequence will reset to 1 and increment with each clock pulse until either STEPS or REC is released.

Rate: Adjusts the internal clock rate."

Andrew Hunter - Eurorack Modular Synthesizer Improvisation. (May, 26 2015)

Published on May 26, 2015 Andrew Hunter Music

"The synth is a eurorack system based on 2 tip top happy ending kits, a pittsburgh foundation2 monorocket case and a modified Super37 eurorack keyboard, all housed in connecting oak cases that I built.

Drone/lead is a pittsburgh osc sine wave going into a ufold and a pitts delay.

sequenced bassline is a dixie saw going into a megawave and a boogie filter, sequenced by pitt sequencer and quantized by disting, clocked by a ustep.

drums are tiptop. 808 snare going to a doepfer bit modifier.

modulations from peg. clocks from 4ms.

signal path: modular into a GAP pre73 pre amp and an FMR PBC-6A into an apogee duet. recorded in logic.

audio sync is slightly off."

Super Synthesis VCFs

"VCFs from Super Synthesis, patched up with various Super modules, sequenced by the Korg SQ-1."

Super Synthesis - Rubbery Saw Sequence

Published on Apr 29, 2015

"Rubbery sawtooth sequence showing off VCFs from Super Synthesis"

via Super Synthesis

"VCFs from Super Synthesis is a dual voltage-controlled State Variable Filter in Eurorack format. Each filter has 1 signal input, 2 control voltage inputs with one attenuverter, and 3 signal outputs: Lowpass, Highpass, and Bandpass.

When the resonance control is turned fully clockwise, the filter will self-oscillate, yielding a sine wave on the three outputs, 90 degrees out of phase with each other. The non attenuating CV input and bus connections are scaled for 1V per Octave response, so a keyboard or sequencer can provide keyboard tracking, or play the sine waves in tune.

VCFs’ signal inputs are DC coupled, so the filters can process both audio and control voltages. Great for making slewed and resonant envelopes and sequences."

"An afternoon jam with some modular gear.

Padouk cheeks on the Super 37.

Custom suitcase synth with Technosaurus small wonders series
and eurorack modular format modules.

I found it pretty cool that I could control the modules in the Super 37 from the suitcase and use the Super 37 keyboard to control the Microcon 2 via midi at the same time.

Headphones recommended, thanks for watching...."

Super PH01IIs Pluckin'

Published on Sep 15, 2014 Chris McDowell

"One PH01II modulates the frequency of 2 VCOs and a second PH01II, which triggers an envelope."

"The PH01II is a knob recorder. It records the movement of the DC knob into a loop, and outputs that movement as a 0-5V control voltage (and displays the output via the led). The Rate knob adjusts the playback speed (or loop length, however you want to think about it.) The record button overwrites whatever is in the loop with the current position of the DC pot, allowing for complex sequences with just a little clicking and twiddling. Loop length goes from ~18 seconds to over 500Hz.

PH01II also features:

Sync In (rising edge restarts the loop)

Sync Out (5V pulse at the start of the loop)

CV Input (0-5V) for the rate of the loop.

The PH01II is 6hp and runs on the 5V bus of your euro power supply."

Super Synthesis Super37

Published on Sep 11, 2014 ISOTROPOSPHERE

"Super Synthesis Super 37 controller / modular keyboard.

Thanks to David at Super Synthesis for working with me to create this one of a kind version of the Super 37 keyboard controller. It is celebrating its one year anniversary since its creation and delivery to my studio.

The S37 is also triggering the Synare SY-3 clone which is passing through the Knas Ekdahl moisturizer. Korg ES-1 small rhythm backing.

Really enjoy the modules I have compiled into the S37 and have only one change before I call it final and that is to change the Blue Lantern joystick out for an Intellijel micro vca.

Enjoy!!"
