"'Ichika's Brand New Dress' - recorded live on February 27, 2021 using a MIDI sequencer, 3 mixers and room full of synthesizers.
The roots of "Ichika's" was composed on a Yamaha RS7000 sequencer and left unfinished for several years. The intricate timings and swing notes were too difficult to mix when overdubbing and editing on the RS7000 and was nearly abandoned altogether. Fast forward to December 2020 - I don't think I would have ever finished this without the Akai MPC X. It's essentially a sports car wrapped around a Rolls Royce. The 10" display is comfortable to use and the generous physicality of buttons, knobs, OLED displays make editing a breeze. Mixing straight notes, with triplets and swing was something nearly impossible to manage on the RS. The MPC not only made it easy, but I never felt constrained to try things out. Although I may never touch its sampler and built-in synths, the MIDI capabilities alone are amazing and worth the price - especially coming from the RS7000.
The breakout stars of this piece are the Korg Wavestate and the Sequential REV2 which due to its versatility played the bulk of parts [00:11], [01:13], [0:31], [05:50] both layered and split all throughout [02:27], [02:56], [04:32]. Its generous modulation capabilities allowed nuance everywhere needed especially since the MPC X made editing so much easier. Velocity and the MOD wheel are used primarily to articulate notes; discrete use of specific CC modulations were also used. The digital distortion and filter modulations were synchronized with MIDI [04:52].
The Wavestate's factory patches are so expertly designed although I found it difficult to fit them in initially. Luckily I know enough to adjust the envelopes to get a good fitting. Still the Wavestate remains a challenge for me to wrap my head around. Swirling strings [02:03], [02:38], [03:50] and bell tones [02:29].
Drums - I'm surprised how many drums are in this. The Roland TR8s was used to replace RS7000 analog kit used in the original 'Ichika's'. The MDX 1400 was used to compress the 808 kick. Two acoustic kits from the Yamaha Motif XS were tweaked to make use of its built-in VCM compressors - room reverb first, then the compression. Most of the acoustic kit performance was sequenced on the RS7000 and later tweaked on the MPC X. The crash choke was made by playing a regular crash using a second note at a lower velocity (greater than zero) at [05:14]. The delicious sound of the Boss DR-660 [03:26] was added to "Ichika's" recently as new sections using the Wavestate were created. The Alesis 3630 was used to tame the dynamics of the DR-660, especially the toms. Lastly, my custom "noise and sine" kit on the Korg Radias embellishes all through the piece.
The Korg EX-8000 had a minor role except for the amazing sweeping patch showered in its digital delay [03:27], [03:48]. I believe an original preset patch with minor tweaks on the envelopes.
Upbeat vox played by the Korg Radias near the beginning [00:12] and at the end [05:25], also modulated here [01:22] and here [01:32].
The original Minilogue wears its characterful filter again throughout "Ichika's", reusing patches from previous arrangements. Layered up, the Minilogue XD *high-def* embellishments filled in when needed.
The lightning acrobatics of the Novation Bass Station II and its ability to switch patches on a tick emphasized individual notes in a few places [01:27], [03:36]. Unfortunately my mixing isn't sufficient to put these subleties out front enough to hear.
Brassy swells [00:53] and stringy melodies [02:06] on the Prophet 6. Digital voice chatter here [02:30] and here [03:18], melodic emphasis on the main parts [00:11] on the Korg MS 2000 - shining near the end with a chaotic sequence of LFO modulations [04:52].
The Yamaha Tx81Z played a minor part filling in space when needed [01:00], [05:17].
Video from a Canon EOS SL3 was captured over a two day period while the audio was recorded after getting a satisfying take."

"All of the sliders, buttons and knobs were tested and work with no issues. The display also has no issues and I have no problem hearing audio from the synth. The only issue I found is the keyboard which is common on the JD800. The keyboard does not have a the leaking red glue problem (see photo) but only 10 out of 61 keys work. The black keys are kind of wobbly too. Everything works great though using an external MIDI keyboard, so it could be used as a sound module.

• Improved "Jump" pitch-rounding mode for MPE so that it quickly settles to the note of the area under your finger. This vastly improves the tuning of pitch-shifted chords, and introduces some incredible pitch shift effects when using a custom-created (Innovator’s) grid overlay.
• Added mode to allow velocity range to allow for lower limits. Accessed via “Threshold 10”. When you choose "Threshold 10", the low end velocities (less than 30) are now transmitted, and the activation force threshold is set to 3.
• When using the Drum Pad Overlay Y controls, the 0-127 values are scaled to fit each pad’s size.
• Fixed pitch-bend bugs for single channel MIDI (previously, pitch bend could be on a channel different from the note)
• Notes that are set to “off” are no longer transposed when the octave or scene up/down Morph modifiers are used.
• Note off is no longer sent when you shift octaves/scenes.
•Refined hit size of the Buchla Thunder Overlay’s areas and fixed missed notes on the Buchla Overlay, particularly on pads 1-9.
• Fixed wrap-around bug with pitch-bend (most noticed on drum overlay with bend set to Absolute). Previously, when a pad was set to Absolute pitch bend, the value could jump very high or low at the edges.
• The Morph now has better handling of note-off, deprecating the need for All * Notes Off messages when overlays are removed. As a result, no All Notes Off message is sent when an overlay is removed.
• Fixed horizontal scroll command (Video Editing Overlay)
• Mouse click now resets to “up” when “no overlay” is in Trackpad mode and an overlay is placed on the Morph. Previously, this could often result in a stuck mouse, causing hair to be removed from one’s head."

The violence of ‘Permanence’ should not be underestimated, it leaves little time for the listener to gather their breath as each heavy kick drum continues to pound the speaker into near submission. Mixed with ambient chords, which draw the listener even further into the darkness of the track, ‘Permanence’ keeps on building throughout to a powerful crescendo, providing a clever balance of harshness, soft textures and depth.

"Disclaimer: I cannot be held responsible if you try this out and break your gear or yourself. Please be careful! This mod requires the synth to be powered on with the panel open as you make adjustments to the trim pots. Please do not touch anything inside the synth other than the trim pots, and only touch the trim pots with your trim pot tool. I used a special tool for this, but I think it may be possible to use other tools as well.
This video is meant to show you how I accomplished my particular goal. It does not mean that this is THE correct way, if there is such a thing. I'm a total DIY noob and have never used an oscilloscope before. Please leave a comment if you know something important about safety or want to call me out for anything that I'm doing which is clearly wrong.

Synthesizer is 100V version for the Japanese market. I highly recommend a voltage converter for long-term use.
Includes Japanese language overlay (see photo).
The only flaws are some paint buckling and scratches on the bottom of the synth.
Even the nuts on the inputs are clean - often these are corroded or dull by now.
Includes original box with matching serial number and "Korg" stamped styrofoam ends for packing.
No documentation included.
While this is in collectors' condition, it sounds like an absolute beast and deserves to be played! It has the soul of a wild animal. While not as full-featured as its big sibling, the MS-20, and only has one oscillator, it sounds ferocious and is completely capable of some fantastic sounds, from straightforward leads and basslines to crazy sci-fi sound effects."

It's been recently serviced, which included:
-Removing the resin coating from the set of 6 chips and then reinstalling, fitting the chips into sockets.
-New memory battery fitted.
-Factory presets loaded.
-Clean/lube of switches and pots.
-New set of front panel tact switches installed.
-Filter calibration.
-New pair of speakers installed.
The synth is in excellent cosmetic condition, with only minor blemishes or marks."

"AGNI - is our pride, this is a complex signal processing device that includes: voltage-controlled amplifier (VCA) combined with a Wavefolder, then the signal goes to the Distortion section, which amplifies and distorts the signal, then the signal is filtered by a passive filter and goes to the output amplifier, AGNI also has a feedback unit which provides an output signal to the input of the device.
