Roland System 8 | FM glass pad

video upload by MIDERA

"Working on recreating some sounds I loved from my old Yamaha TX7. Surprisingly, I felt I got pretty close to the sounds, although it's much easier to edit.

One of the only things that sucks about the System 8's FM implementation is that there's no way to have a static pitch across the keyboard to modulate the sound. Oh well."

Soma Synths Pulsar 23 Patch From Scratch: Offbeat Textural Rhythms

video upload by Matt Lowery

"Listen: things get a little weird today. I want to talk about how to make a beat that's hard to dance to. In face, calling it a 'beat' is kind of misleading. More like a big steamy bowl of drum gumbo. Drumbo.

It's also maybe just a chance for you to see the Pulsar 23 in action. Stick around and hang out.

If you want to hear this technique in a musical context, check out my track 'Erstwhile' on the Mapsquest compilation:"

https://www.uvi.net/subculture-orchestral

"As an experiment we organized a number of specialized ensembles to capture a range of articulations and effects at the lowest octave possible. The recordings that resulted from these sessions express some of the most powerful and emotive sounds we've heard in an orchestral setting. This is the sonic foundation of SubCulture Orchestral.

Fusing the concept and aesthetics of SubCulture with the lowest registers of the orchestra, these incredible recordings were taken to the next level by our sound designers. SubCulture Orchestral delivers 120 unique and inspiring creations; delve into dark cinematic worlds while weaving shadowy string scapes, haunting brass sweeps, roaring taiko rhythms, gritty hits, and more. A perfect companion for anyone looking to add dark and unconventional orchestral sounds to their music, film, or game scores.

Each of the instruments in SubCulture Orchestral is designed to be expressive and playable, providing helpful controls and macros allowing you to sculpt your sound and create dynamic, expressive performances. As with all Falcon expansions, you have the ability to dig beneath the surface into each sound's patch structure, to manipulate and reshape it in any way you see fit.

Falcon's versatility and pristine sound quality is evident throughout this collection, utilizing numerous synthesis and sound design techniques and a robust use of effects and modulators. Sounds can all be quickly previewed, edited, layered or performed with nearly limitless variation thanks to Falcon's semi-modular architecture and rich library."

Noise Engineering | Free Plug-ins for your DAW!

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Ever wanted a Ruina Versio but don't have the budget? Always wanted to have a polyphonic 'iteritas' oscillator that blends, bubbles, screams and morphs into amazing pads, metals, beats, bass lines and leads? Noise Engineering just released public beta's of their 95% finished DAW plugins. I normally don't cover plug-ins on this modular channel, but these are too good to be free. But they are! Free for everyone that has a Customer Portal account or is able to create one. Here's all you need to know: https://www.noiseengineering.us/blog/...

Sinc & Virt Vereor are synth voices with built in envelope, filter and chorus. Ruina is a pretty exact port of the Ruina Versio module code. This video is just me fooling around with the plug-ins for about an hour, so they're easy to install (remember they're VST3's on windows, so you need Ableton to find it) and even easier to play with them. Best with automation! Bandcamp: https://cinematiclaboratory.bandcamp...."

OB6 synthesizer repair and demo

video upload by Vykaar Tones

"I just got myself the sonically wonderful DSI/Tom Oberheim OB6 synthesizer.
Unfortunately there was a slight thump on voice 4 when listened to at high volume with no vcos or noise turned up. This was easily rectified by replacing the voice card with one supplied by Dave Smith - just like popping a ram simm into a PC. Just press calibration buttons two times and job done."

Interesting look at the voice boards.

Norand Mono and a DB-01 - noodlings (no talking)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"Both the Norand Mono and the Erica Synths DB-01 are best known for furiously zipping along through 16-step patterns, although both can easily move into very different realms. While fiddling with the filter and resonance on the Norand (and applying envelopes separately to both) I came across an interesting effect where they sometimes seem to split off into two voices. I couldn't quite decide whether it was spooky, or had a sort of Arabian flavor. The DB-01 seemed a natural fit so I added a very simple drone-mode pattern. Both machines have an added touch of Valhalla delay in Reaper but are otherwise as you see them here.

Farfisa Syntorchestra 4 1980 Mono / Poly Italian String Machine w/ Original Gig Bag

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Very rare Italian keyboard from 1980 with original soft case made by Farfisa. It has been serviced a couple of months ago, it works great.

It consists of mainly two sections, polyfonic and monofonic, but there are really four.
Rather than it's simple predecessor Syntorchestra 1, the Syntorchestra 4 has a lot in common with the Farfisa Soundmaker.
It shares the same presets and basic specs.

Poly section:
Separate output, volume and tuning
6 polyfonic presets in 3 sections, with vibrato option:
Section 1: Piano, Honky tonk, harpsichord
Section 2: Strings - with separate decay control *
Section 3: Brass and Reed presets, great warm synth tones.

Separate vibrato for the poly section.
The poly section can be routed to the Mono section via the button Poly in Mono. LFO and attack / decay.

Mino section:
Separate output, volume and tuning.
Pitch bend.
8 monofonic synth presets, modifiable LFO: Speed, Vibrato, VCF, brilliance, emphasis (envelope).
Portamento.
Mono preference - when you play chords, you can choose if the mono section triggers the lowest or highest note.

The bag is in less great shape, zipper works but needs love, one shoulder strap had been replaced."

Ouroboros Gemini • DIY Semi-Modular Percussion and Noise Synthesizer • Rhythmic Demo

video upload by Ouroboros Electronics

"Gemini is a beginner-friendly DIY synthesizer existing at the crossroads of a primitive rhythm box and a chaotic west-coast system. With a low part count consisting only of common thru-hole components and a pre-drilled front panel intended for mountable legs; Gemini is a very approachable and ideal entry into the world of synth DIY while also being a worthwhile instrument in its own right that would still satisfy an advance builder and synthesist. Gemini consists of two individual resonant low pass filters which are each pinged by separate LFOs to create percussion such as clicks, crackles, pops and bubbling sounds in the vein of Serge and Hordijk sonics, as well as sounds akin to those of early drum machines. The LFOs each have gate outputs and rate modulation inputs, and there is a third, slower LFO with a gate output as well which can modulate either or both of the other LFOs. Using the banana jacks, the LFOs can be patched together to create syncopated rhythmic interplay between the two resonant voices or patched to create modulated patterns of spontaneity and unpredictability.

The resonance on the filters can also be brought into self-oscillation. Individual outputs allow the possibility of panning and processing each voice individually. It can also be connected via an optional ground jack for use when cross patching with other banana gear. The Gemini PCB and front panel set is now available for $50USD + $8.50 shipping within the US.

To order - email: ouroboros.electronics.us@gmail.com or visit the Ouroboros Electronics store on Reverb.com. Please visit www.ouroboros-electronics.com for more info including the BOM and a Q&A."
