PlantsSystem-Violation

video upload by plantssystem

"I recreated Akira Mitake classic track "Violation" using the Akai MPC-2000.
While preserving the tension and beauty of the original, I've used sampling and beatmaking to create a new texture.
I hope you can experience the unique groove and lo-fi warmth of the MPC, as well as the atmospheric feel that floats between the sounds.

Equipment Used: Akai MPC-2000
Original Composer: Akira Mitake

Mixer/pan module

Polyphonic programmer module with 16 memory locations for either single or combination patches with each SEM programmable separately or in common

8 VCOs with sawtooth or variable pulse width waveforms; pulse width modulation from either envelop or LFO

4 classic resonant Oberheim VCFs with 12 db per octave cutoff slopes, each continuously selectable between low pass/notch/high pass configuration, and bandpass.

Separate envelopes for VCA and VCF with positive or negative routing of envelop to VFC; envelop routable VCO pitch or pulse width modulation

One triangle wave LFO per voice and one common global LFO from programmer module

Each of the polyphonic programmer and keyboard controller have there own manual global filter cutoff frequency control

rare birds: Elgam Carousel (with DINSync mod)

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

"Quick demo of the Elgam Carousel I just serviced and modded by adding external clock and start synchronisation (DIN Sync) and an extra output to have dedicated outputs for drum and accompaniment section.
I used a Roland CR8000 to clock the Carousel but any drum machine / sequencer that uses DIN Sync or send 24ppq pulses will work, like the Arturia Keystep range.
This open a world of possibilities. The second output is quite useful especially in a live situation where you'd want drums and accompaniment parts to have different fx. In the demo the drum part is recorded dry and the accompaniment part goes through a Zoom MS70CDR to have filter delay. (CR8000 goes through the Dynacord VRS23)
Since you can clock the Carousel you can even record seperate arrangement tracks without having to worry about sync issues."

via this eBay listing

"Quite rare italian analog drum machine and accompaniment synth.

Unit was fully serviced and is in perfect working condition:

- every electrolytic capacitors were replaced

- fully calibrated

- an external clock / start sync was added. You can now sync and start the Carousel with any device that send 24ppq clock pulses, like DINSync (used in Roland CR78, CR8000, TR808 etc) or modern devices like Arturia Keystep clock output. If requested I can provide for free a TRS mini jack to DIN cable in order to use with devices that uses that connectors like Arturia. There is a switch to flip from internal to external clock.

- a second audio output was added to solo the drum part. When inserting a jack the drum sound is removed from the main output and goes to that second one, so you have seperate outputs for drum and accompaniment."

Roland TR-1000 compared to OG TR-808 TR-909

video upload by Antony Fewster

"Quick compare of the new Roland TR-1000 to the TR-808 and TR-909. Not intended to be a shootout, more so side by side examples of how the engines compare.

The TR-1000's 808 engines are all analog in this example. The TR-1000's 909 kick and clap are analog, the hats are ACB.

Recorded from main outs on all machines into Apollo x8 into Logic. Normalized audio, exported uncompressed to AIFF. Finally degraded by imovie and youtube."

Update: some additional info via Antony:

"In trying to match the levels (tuning etc), something that was really apparent was that there originals had nowhere left to go - both the 808 and 909 were set to max on the available settings (other than tone for the 808 was was around 12 o’clock). The TR-1000 had headroom for days across every parameter - decay, tuning etc before you even get to the extended parameters, effects, filter etc

I find in the same room the TR-1000 is crisper, clearer, heavier, punchier. I imagine most folks will be dialing things back to sit in the mix vs adding stuff (i.e. when compared to the originals) to make them do their thing.

I know the originals do what they do, but having played the TR-1000 I find myself wondering why the tuing stops ‘here’, or why I can’t add a delay to the hats, and a compressor to the kick as I’m in the flow with the machine - vs going back to the daw, or having to use separate outs into outboard stuff - it’s all very immediate."

Ocean Swift Launches “Sample Tester” - A Free, Instant Tool for Sonic Curation and Auditioning

Press release follows:

Ocean Swift Launches “Sample Tester” - A Free, Instant Tool for Sonic Curation and Auditioning

Ocean Swift announces the release of Sample Tester, a compact, zero-friction instrument designed for rapid auditioning, tuning checks, and curation of oscillator-style samples. Sample Tester is available now as a free Kontakt Player-compatible tool, empowering producers, sound designers, and sample library creators to streamline their workflow.

A Tool That Speeds Up the Process

With Sample Tester, users can drag and drop a sample file and immediately hear it played polyphonically, allowing quick assessment of tuning, harmonic behavior, and musical context. The instrument:

Automatically detects or permits manual setting of the root note
Displays MIR-derived metrics such as pitch, peak, RMS, and loudness at a glance
Offers an engine toggle to compare Direct-From-Disk streaming versus Time Machine Pro sample stretching
Provides one-click amplitude envelope shapes (Perc, Bell, Piano, Lead, Pad)
Supports NKS / NKS2 mappings, compatible with hardware control surfaces
Works fully in the free Kontakt Player—no full Kontakt license required
In modern production environments, sound designers and producers often sift through large volumes of raw samples. Determining which ones will behave musically, tune correctly, or integrate well into a kit or melodic instrument can be time-consuming. Sample Tester accelerates that decision-making:

Instant feedback: No waiting for heavy DAW setup
Precise metrics: MIR data gives insight beyond the ear alone
Real-time auditioning: Hear the sample in chords or context, not just as a solo note
Flexible workflow: Works for tonal, looped, oscillator-style materials
These features combine to let creators “decide faster, tune with confidence, and build better libraries.”

Ocean Swift positions Sample Tester as a perfect companion to its Spectral Oscillators Toolkits, but the tool is equally useful for any user working with tonal or looped sample material.

Studio Ambient Session with Moog One, Prophet-10, Music Easel : Soundwalk 2025-10-10

video upload by atnr

"A piece created with ‪@SequentialLLC‬ Prophet-10, ‪@MoogSynthesizers‬ Moog One, ‪@buchlausa‬ Music Easel, and modular synthesizers — an ambient electronica track built from layered sounds recorded while walking around the studio.

The Prophet-10 is connected to a blueSky reverb, played with long release settings while manually opening and closing the filter.

Both the Moog One and ‪@NordKeyboards‬ Nord Lead provide synth pads. The Nord Lead runs through the ‪@gfisys‬ Specular Tempus with a deep reverb.

In the small Intellijel modular case, the ‪@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC‬ Morphagene plays back recorded piano sounds, with additional reverb added via a Clouds clone.

In the 7U Intellijel case seen on the right side of the screen, the Instruō Cs-L is processed through QPAS and Mimeophon for filtering and delay effects.

The Music Easel is connected to a ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬ MOOD MKII, adding rich reverb. The Easel is played with noticeable portamento while performing on the keyboard."

Arturia MicroFreak Jam – "The Absurd Ninety Percent"

video upload by alloutofsync

"While designing a patch on the MicroFreak, I stumbled upon a strange sound — absurd in a good way — so I turned it into a jam. Now and then, it gives off a Steve Vai–like vibe (3:13-), which I love.

Starting from the init patch, pitch and timbre shift with LFO and pressure. The sequence was entered on a whim, following instinct more than logic.

The rhythm track comes from Ableton Live."
