Meris x Korg Arp 2600 FS

Switched On

"We couldn't be happier to carry the incredible Meris collection of effects, so to highlight them we decided to process a simple sequence from the Arp 2600 and let the pedals do all of the heavy lifting!

Live w/ Hydrasynth, Moog Subharmonicon, DFAM, Empress Reverb, Echosystem, Multidrive, EHX Oceans 12

Jay Hosking

"A live track performed entirely on hardware. I've got something pretty big coming up (an actual workflow video!) but I wanted to capture this musical ice sculpture before it melted.

At its heart is the Moog Subharmonicon and its polymeter melody; I love how the Electroharmonix Oceans 12 adds some weirdness to it, via two reverb algorithms (one in reverse), plus its "tide" parameter which adds a gentle LFO to the panning.

As before, two DFAMs do the job of drums, with one running on its standard clock (kick and snare) and the other following the Subharmonicon's lead (hi-hats). At this point, I think it's impossible for me to enjoy the DFAM fully without the Empress Multidrive on it; the Multidrive brings out the highs and lows and adds some beautiful saturation, all at the same time.

And then doing most of the heavy lifting is the ASM Hydrasynth. No matter how good the Hydra sounds (and it does sound great), the experience of playing the Hydra is its best feature. It's hard to describe how responsive and expressive its polyaftertouch keybed is; suffice it to say that it shaped the chords, arrangement, and dynamics of the song. And with the Empress Reverb on it, it really steals the show.

Oh, and I added my voice again. Almost didn't. And some acoustic guitar? I don't know. It felt right.

Ashun Sound Machines Hydrasynth + Empress Reverb — Bass, pads
Moog Subharmonicon + Electroharmonix Oceans 12 — Polymeter melody
Moog DFAM + Empress Multidrive — Kick and snare
Moog DFAM + Empress Echosystem — Hats and bells
(Meris Polymoon does nothing in this one; it was just still set up from last time.)
Larrivee D-03 — Acoustic guitar

Performed and recorded live. Compression, delay, and reverb added to vocals and acoustic guitar during recording, and compression/limiting on the master.

Jam w/ Zen Delay, Korg NTS-1, Abyss, Minitaur, and Empress, Strymon, Meris pedals

Published on Apr 28, 2020 Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by the pleasures of tape. Most of the sounds here have tape-like effects applied to them, and for much of the song, I'm "playing" the tape on the Zen Delay by Erica Synths (with Ninja Tune collaborating). The Zen Delay is a real joy to perform with.

I'm also nicely surprised by the Korg NTS-1. It was a fun project to build, and while it's only a single-oscillator synth, you can get a variety of sound out of it (including a sub oscillator), and it has a ton of good options like filter sweep, and also a great collection of effects. Quite a lot of bang for your buck!

Novation Launchpad Pro MkIII — Sequencing, mutes, scenes
Korg NTS-1 + Empress Effects Zoia — Melody
Dreadbox Abyss + Empress Effects Reverb + Strymon Ola + Meris Ottobit Jr. — Pad
Moog Minitaur + Meris Polymoon — Bass
Roland SH-01a + Strymon Deco + Erica Synths (with Ninja Tune) Zen Delay — Melody 2 and arp and delay weirdness

Written and performed within a 24-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.

Novation Summit - Sequenced by the Launchpad Pro feat. a wonderful Multi patch from the incredible r Beny

Rossum Electro Panharmonium - Fed some food from an aux on the mixer and Morphagene

Rossum Electro Assimil8or - Sequenced from the Launchpad Pro via a fine CV.OCD

Beatsqueezer - Sequenced by the Launchpad Pro feat. a fine sampled Una Chorda from a furry friend.

Elektron Octatrack - being controlled by the Launchpad Pro's custom modes Launchpad Pro is a super cool controller as well as sequencer.

Ambient poly synth jam with the NDLR, Deckard's Dream, OB-6, Peak, Dreadbox Abyss, Polymoon, Big Sky

Published on Dec 12, 2019 Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by winter looming. I've long wanted to make a couple of videos about how the sequencer really determines where the music goes, and I thought there was no better example of this than the NDLR, which is such a beautiful little inspiration device. In my opinion, I think the NDLR thrives at making interesting ambient explorations, and I hope I've demonstrated that here.

I've also wanted to make a "poly synth jam" and show each of the poly synths I currrently have next to each other. Some really interesting things revealed themselves here: 1) the Peak is the clear winner for bass; 2) I like the OB-6 a lot better for plucks or shorter decays than I do for pads; 3) the Abyss holds its own among these bigger names and is a real gem with lots of personality; 4) the Deckard's Dream isn't particularly rich or versatile, but adds the most beauty to the track, and it's a joy to make a patch from scratch.

Conductive Labs NDLR — Sequencing
Black Corporation Deckard's Dream + Meris Polymoon — Pad
Sequential/Oberheim OB-6 — Motif 1 (brighter arp)
Dreadbox Abyss + Strymon Big Sky — Motif 2 (mellower arp)
Novation Peak — Drone (bass monster)

Written and performed within a 24-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.

DSI Rev2 does Blade Runner Blues

Published on Nov 22, 2019 Clint W.

"Main solo played on a Dave Smith Rev2 8 voice going through a Meris Mercury7 reverb and into mixing desk.
Using a Behringer VC340 for string sounds with reverb from the desk
Rhodes piano sounds come from the Vox Continental 73 keys going straight into the mixing desk, also added reverb from the desk.

Enjoy :)"

Strymon Big Sky, Meris Mercury 7, Eventide H9 Max Shimmer Reverb Comparison

Published on Apr 14, 2019 Uriel Ortega

"These three units are what I constantly use for my live synth rig. All three are powerful high quality units with very deep editing. In this simple video I do a comparison of the shimmer reverb algorithm on the Meris Mercury 7, The Eventide H9 Max, and the Strymon Big Sky. I love all three but usually have the Big Sky as my go to reverb for live use. Which do you prefer?"
