CCTV-Quadtec 101 Digital dual quadraphonic oscillator first sound

Published on Aug 8, 2019 Dziam Bass

"Today I have the first sound from the Quadtec 101 digital dual oscillator.

This is a module offering a quadraphone, but initially I did not use the full show when I wave through the pan placing it on the speakers. this patch was more about the sound itself and also quite interesting sequences when one sequencer controls this patch and the sound from one oscillator I raise and lower almost like transpositions ...
This is a great module because it extends the possibilities of creating new sequences or spaces and moving between two oscillators"

Polynorth - a hybrid analog/digital polyphonic synthesizer

Published on Jul 31, 2019 Jon Petter Skagmo

via skagmo.com

"The Polynorth is my first attempt at designing a polyphonic synthesizer. It's got a completely analog filter section, combined with a powerful 200 MHz 32-bit microcontroller.

I've always wanted to build an analog polyphonic synthesizer, but they often end up being very large and complex because the size of the electronics pretty much scales linearly with the number of voices.

In many ways I think the filters are the hardest part of a digital synthesizer to get to "sound analog", so I figured out a good compromise would be to keep the filters analog and do all the rest with a microcontroller. The mostly digital architecture also has some important benefits:

- Flexible internal signal routing like a modular synth, but without a ton of patch leads
- More advanced modulation options (FM)
- Patch store/recall (including the routing)
- Much smaller size

I stumbled upon the SSI2144 filter, which is a modern remake of the classic SSM2044. It's very similar in many ways, but in a much more compact package and with better dynamic range, so a 6 voice synth could be made pretty compact. This is what kicked off the project.

The system architecture is explained in this block schematic."

River Synths - Dendrites

Published on Jul 30, 2019 SchneidersLaden

This is the first post to feature River Synths.

"The Dendrites by River Synths is a highly versatile multimode filter with different resonance characteristics and a drive circuit. A very nice colouring audio processing tool, with a certain presence and a musical behaviour."

OVERVIEW
River's Dendrites is a true multi-multi-mode filter. A very nice colouring audio processing tool, with a certain presence and a musical behaviour. The filter modes (16), resonance (3) and overdrive (2) all have different options to choose from - a total of 96 different combinations. And then there are five CV inputs, additional switches, controls and attenuators. The “art” of Dendrites is to never appear overloaded with features, but to always be playable - and to sound very good.

DETAILS
Dendrites is a multimode filter AND phaser. Two of the 16 modes are designed as pure all-pass filters, which can produce a rather deep phaser sound despite being there being only four stages/poles available. Four more modes are a mixture of allpass and lowpass, bandpass and highpass. The remaining ten are one- to four-pole, "pure" variants of LP, BP and HP.

The dry, wood-like basic sound of the discrete transistor circuitry always shines through. By adjusting the input level and the resonance behavior, the Dendrites can be made sharper, softer, thinner, wider, firmer and more fluid. And with the drive activated, it's even quite aggressive.

Each of the three resonance settings plays a role in achieving said characteristics: "Vintage" for soft and round, stronger colouring behaviour. "Q-Comp" regulates the relationship between audio signal and resonance, providing a different presence. And "K-Style" means Korg classics sound and therefore also has a dominant resonance sound and a rather mid centered output.

At the center of Dendrites, however, is a click encoder with which the 16 different filter types can be quickly selected. This is also possible with CV. Also the resonance is CV controllable. AND Dendrites also tracks stable over at least four octaves and can be used as a sine oscillator (with Drive = Waveshaper). With exponential and - for filters rather unusual - linear FM. The FM/Cutoff input is switchable between lin/exp and is bipolar (+/-5V), while its neighbour "Envelope" is designed for unipolar envelopes (0-10V). Both have an attenuator for scaling the input signal.

Especially in the setting "K-Style" it is worthwhile to activate the drive. With the input-gain in the middle position in order to leave some air for the resonance. With vintage resonance on the other hand and especially in 4P-lowpass mode you can and should move the input gain to past 3 o’clock. "Q-Comp" has a different presence that allows for settings moving subtly between 9 to 12 at the input and thus working out different shades of saturation.

Dendrites reminds in many settings of classic synths. But you will also notice that it's a unique, self-designed and modern circuit - especially the way it saturates and how agile it can be with fast modulations ... and with how little background noise there is!

Funkstill - Filter Threek 13700

Published on Jul 30, 2019 SchneidersLaden

This is the first post to feature the Funkstill brand.

"Filter Threek is a unique multimode VCF. It combines low-pass, high-pass and / or all-pass stages to process sound. The sound character ranges from beefy to nasal. Colorations reminiscent of a Phaser effect are possible as well. The resonance could be described as very muscular. There are six filter combinations available. Thanks to several inputs and outputs, you have a total of twelve operation modes at hand, though. A very important feature of the Filter Threek: You can crossfade between all the filter modes. A flexible CV routing system guarantees very dynamic results."

New Alemanlabs Tap Tempo LFO and M-172 Phase Shifter Eurorack Modules

Published on Jun 16, 2019 Pete Aleman

The modules are currently for sale by Alemanlabs on Reverb. Note this is the first Alemanlabs post on the site.

"This is a quick demo of two Alemanlabs modules. The two modules are the, "Tap Tempo LFO" by Electric Druid, and the other module is a clone of the 6 stage Phase Shifter from the Roland 100-M modular. Im using one of the LFO's to modulate the Phase Shifer and the other LFO to modulate an SH-1 filter. I am also using an LFO to modulate a VCO.

One of the key features of this LFO is the ability to sync the LFO to a beat. In this example im syncing the LFO's to a trigger out from the Arturia Beat Step Pro."

Alemanlabs Tap Tempo LFO pics and details via this auction

"electricdruid.net
Released under, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license
PCB and panel designed by Alemanlabs.

Features

Simple “Tap Tempo” control button.

The TAP TEMPO input can measure the time between two taps of a momentary switch or button, and uses this time to set the LFO’s basic tempo.

Ability to synchronize LFO to external clocks

The TAP TEMPO input can also accept 0-5V pulses. This allows the LFO to be synchronized to an external clock. The module also produces a CLOCK OUT which can synchronize other TAPLFOs.

LFO range from 0.025Hz to above 50Hz

The basic range of the TEMPO CV allows the LFO to produce frequencies between 0.05Hz (a 20 second cycle) and 12.8Hz. However, in conjunction with the MULTIPLIER CV, this range is extended to 0.025Hz (a 40-second cycle) to 50Hz.

Sixteen output waveforms, in two sets. The chip can produce 16 output waveforms. These are selected by the “A/B” switch.

The MULTIPLIER selects a tempo multiplier which is used to determine the final LFO frequency. This allows the LFO to produce changes at double or half-speed, or produce triplet times.

Wave Distort. The selected waveform can be distorted using the DIST pot. This modifies the duty cycle of all LFO waveforms.

Smoothing filter switch. This applies the digital equivalent of a single pole RC filter to the waveform before it is output. The filtering removes the abrupt edges that tend to give clicks in some applications and gives the waveforms a softer rise and fall (about 20msecs).

Built in fuses on the power input protect the module from over current conditions. If the module experiences any kind of over current condition the fuses will over heat protecting the module. The fuses will reset once power is recycled.

The panel is laser cut, drilled and silk screened with epoxy based ink."

Alemanlabs M-172 Phase Shifter pics and details via this auction.

"This is a clone of the M-172 Phase Shifter from the Roland 100M modular synthesizer. It has 6 stages of phase shifting for a super rich warm sound. 100% classic analog. The module is super low profile and skiff ready.

10hp wide
Built in fuses on the power input protect the module from over current conditions. If the module experiences any kind of over current condition the fuses will over heat protecting the module. The fuses will reset once power is recycled.

DIY Synthesizer up and alive finally Published on Jun 11, 2019

"This is the first test run of my semi-modular homemade synthesizer. The sequence comes from the built in sequencer and the key changes are done via midi. The synth has two continiously variable waveform oscillators ( Kobol type ), two voltage controlled filters ( SSM 2044 Lp on the left, Steiner-Parker state variable on the right), one digital midi synchronizable LFO, one analog LFO, two ADSRs with trigger delay, bi-polar modulation routing switches and attenuators, one analog bucket-brigade delay module, digital overdrive, portamento and a 16 note sequencer.

I designed the front panel graphics and printed them with the help of a local professional silk screen printing craftsman. The panel sheet and all the holes were precision cut by CNC plasma cutter. The case is a modified old Teac tape recorder case."

Superbooth 2019 - Mayer M800 Poly Eurorack and Control System

Published on May 17, 2019 sonicstate

"This is a relatively new concept, almost bypassing the Eurorack concept of patching CV cables, and using the racking system to power it. The M800 is an advanced multi-timbral poly unit with sample player, arpeggiators and plenty more, but uses a secondary bus to receive control signals from dedicated controller modules. These make no sound themselves, but are used to control the main M800 unit.
It remains to be seen if the world is ready for such a conceptual sea change, but it has some interesting possibilities."
