1st test with the Drum Machine part of the Roland MC 707 - Sound Provider

"The Roland MC-707 GROOVEBOX has everything electronic music producers need to create a song or perform a live set without a computer. The MC-707 is armed with an eight-track sequencer optimized for fluid production, our latest deep synthesis engine, a powerful sampler, massive effects palette and 16 ultra-sensitive pads for playing or sequencing drum parts, melodic basslines, or polyphonic chord progressions.

The MC-707’s eight-track sequencer is made for today's electronic-focused music styles and ever-evolving subgenres. The TR-REC step sequencer is just like those found on classic Roland drum machines, perfect for building rhythm parts quickly. There are also 16 ultra-sensitive pads for playing or sequencing drum parts, melodic basslines, or polyphonic chord progressions.

The MC-707 features our latest sound engine, which fuses virtual analog and modern PCM. It’s flexible, powerful, and lets you dig deep into its sonic capabilities. It has the sounds of legendary Roland rhythm machines and synthesizers that are the foundation of electronic music—including the TR-808, TR-909, TB-303, JUNO-106, and SH-101. But the MC-707 also looks forward, with modern digital and hybrid sounds perfect for creating future classics—today.

In addition to its deep synthesis engine, the MC-707 has a powerful sampler with on-the-fly recording that synchronizes to your project's tempo and works as an updateable and expandable platform that never gets stale. Keep things fresh with new loops, one-shots, phrases, and synth sounds—all available online."

"The Roland MC-101 GROOVEBOX combines premium-quality synthesizer and drum sounds, samples, patterns and effects in a compact four-track sequencer that’s go-everywhere portable. Create whenever, and wherever, inspiration strikes with this pocket production studio and add performance-ready tracks to your DAWless or compact synthesizer setup.

The MC-101 has a four-track sequencer optimized for beatmakers, producers and mobile music makers creating today's electronic and dance-oriented music. You can use the 16 ultra-sensitive RGB pads to create drum, bass, and synthesizer patterns and create your own original music. It's your musical playground, where you can freely combine loops and one-shots with melodic phrases including your own imported audio recordings and MIDI sequences. Compose and trigger clips, rearrange, re-sample, record your knob movements, and more.

On top of that, add the Roland sounds that have defined electronic and dance genres for over forty years. Legendary instruments like the TR-808, TR-909, JUNO-106 and SH-101 are all here, ready to replicate classic sounds or be combined, tweaked, and processed into entirely new sounds.

With the MC-101's massive effects palette, your music sounds polished and fully-produced. Each track has independent effects processors with a huge number of variations. The lush chorus brings depth to pads and other synth sounds. Delays and reverbs create evocative spaces and add movement to delicate sequences. Overdrive, distortion, and amp simulation add grit and intensity to synths, guitars, drums and more. You can also run your entire mix through master effects like filters, bit-crushers and a master bus compressor that glues it all together with punch and clarity."

Roland MC-101, JU-06A, and Octatrack MK2 performance at Patchwerks

Published on Apr 18, 2020 Patchwerks Seattle

"In this video Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) performs on the Roland MC-101, the Roland JU-06A, and the Elektron Octatrack. The focus of the performance was to showcase the MC-101's potential in a live scenario, playing with other instruments.

From Roland:
"Produce and perform music anywhere, anytime—without clutter or complications. The MC-101 GROOVEBOX has all the high-quality sounds, sequencing, and effects of the professional MC-707, in a compact four-track version that’s go-everywhere portable. Get started with an inspiring collection of ready-to-go sounds and patterns, or easily create your own. Craft a unique style by importing custom sounds and loops that sync to tempo. And you can perform with the MC-101, triggering clips and shaping your sounds with direct, hands-on control."

Order the Roland MC-101 here: https://bit.ly/roand_mc_101

From Roland:
"The JU-06A is the best of the JUNO-60 and JUNO-106 in one synth. It has the continuous high-pass filter of the 106, the envelope-controllable pulse-width-modulation of the 60, and the unique filter behavior of both, instantly switchable from the front panel. The sound is indistinguishable from its vintage counterparts, even while tweaking controls or using extreme settings. And no vintage JUNO would be complete without the swirling sound of its legendary chorus, faithfully recreated, right down to the lovable (and thankfully adjustable) noise."

Order Roland JU-06A here: http://bit.ly/Roland_JU-06A

From Elektron:
"During its seven year life span, the original Octatrack quickly became one of the most widely used live performance samplers. An industry standard if there ever was one. It undoubtedly changed the way gear setups look like and gave artists the power to perform live in the truest sense of the word. Now the Octatrack MKII is here. Sharper, better, more robust. It proudly carries the legacy of its predecessor, confirming the position as the creative artist’s instrument of choice."

Roland AIRA Version 1.8 Firmware Update for MC-707, MC-101, and VERSELAB MV-1

video upload by RolandChannel

"Version 1.8 update for the MC-707 GROOVEBOX, MC-101 GROOVEBOX, and VERSELAB MV-1 adds a host of requested features to your instrument. In this video, Zeale walks through the new enhancements for each instrument as well as how to import clips and new Production Packs.

New functions include undo/redo plus clip import, export, and save. Clip compatibility between the MC-707, MC-101, and VERSELAB MV-1 means you can load clips straight from an SD card, then save and share between units or with other MC and VERSELAB users. There are also three brand-new MFX to embellish your sound—Exciter, Phonograph, and JD Multi—as well as support for pitch bend, hold, and other MIDI CC recording options.

Expand your sound and clip library with new MC/MV Production Packs. These top-shelf collections of clips and sample-based tones designed by Wave Alchemy will expand your sound library or jump-start new ideas for songs. Each Production Pack contains 48 custom tones, 50-plus drum one-shots, 16 kits, and 64 clips—with clips organized in groups of four for building 16 custom scenes.

If you’re an MC-707 GROOVEBOX owner, you can now set the key and scale of your project. And there’s a multitrack mode for Pad Note.

If you’re an MC-101 GROOVEBOX owner, you’ll find a game-changing partial editor for creating compelling tones directly from your MC-101. Plus, you can set the key and scale of each of your projects.

If you’re a VERSELAB MV-1 owner, this update includes a powerful random tone designer for quickly creating interesting sounds from a variety of algorithms. The update also adds another much-requested feature: vocal take panning.

And that’s not all. Find more under the hood when you download the Version 1.8 update.

Roland CMU-810

Click here for shots via this auction. Details: "This is the Roland CMU-810 Compusynth, one of the rarest synths ever made by Roland DG Group, an obscure offshoot of the Roland Corporation that remains to this day. In the old dealer price sheets from the 80's it was listed as an expander for the CMU-800 Compu Music, a small mixer/synth/drum machine in a similar housing that you hooked up to a computer. If you look online or read Peter Forrest's A-Z book, a false rumor has perpetuated that this is simply an SH-101 or an MC-202 in a metal box without a sequencer. They reference the schematics but the schematics are nowhere to be found. I've been looking for years for them without any luck. I've compared all three synths side by side, and have triggered the CMU from both an SH-101 and MC-202 sequencer as well as the Roland MC-4. The sound out of this box is entirely different than it's younger cousins, more aggressive, with a faster attack, and much nicer filter. The SH-101 and MC-202 sound very plasticky and thin compared to the CMU. The CMU-810 sounds more like the SH series of synths and soundwise it's probably closer to the SH-09. It excels at bass sounds and percussive effects. It also differs from the MC-202 and SH-101 in that it has a delay slider on the LFO, an input to control the VCA for tremolo effects, and removes the trigger control over the envelope. It also has a built in miniature mixer so you can merge the sound of two additional synths or drum machines (MC_202/TR-606?) with the output of the CMU. It sports sliders from the era of the Jupiter-8 indicating that it probably predated the MC-202 and SH-101 by at least a year or so. One European reviewer on SonicState wrote, "They say it is like the 101/202 but I have not heard any of them (101/202) as aggressive as my new baby (cmu). Very clear, very warm, loads of rumbling and as stated before it can be a very aggressive basspump. If you want to get rid of yours give me a shout cause I would not mind linking a few together." I agree 100%. I would buy one over an MC-202 or SH-101 anyday. But the CMU makes a good partner for either of these synths because it takes up such a small footprint and can act as a second voice when hooked up via CV/GATE. You can watch a video of a CMU-810 on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eof7hVqBsw0"

Roland MC-101 & MC-707 GROOVEBOX v1.7 Update: Scene Chain, Audio Insert Enhancements, and more

video by RolandChannel

"Dig into Version 1.7 for the Roland MC-707 and MC-101 and take your creativity to the next level with the latest GROOVEBOX features and enhancements.

Now it’s easy to create tracks in a more traditional song structure. The new Scene Chain feature can automate the groove and free your focus for other aspects of your performance. Chain Scenes sequentially and set playback length for evolving arrangements, or turn off the chain on a Scene to vamp or transition to new ideas.

The Audio Insert function is fantastic for live applications, turning the MC-101 or MC-707 into a performance mixer for routing external audio into the various effects. V1.7’s updated Audio Insert functionality now allows routing of internal tracks one into the next, creating opportunities to stack MFX for intricate, layered effects textures.

Use the upgraded Chord Designer to auto-assign chords chromatically or diatonically within a selected scale, making it easy to apply changes across all your pads.

No matter how you use it, this feature-packed update is sure to help boost your beats and expand your sound.

In this video, Peter Brown introduces you to the new MC GROOVEBOX features in Version 1.7:

CME WIDI Master Bluetooth Demo & Roland MC-101 First Demo

video by SynthAddict

Great website on the left. ;)

"WIDI Master uses MIDI DIN-5 in and out ports, powered by the out port

When plugged in to MIDI out it starts in Master Mode to pair with any nearby
MIDI controller without a computer (DAWless). If no master is found in few moments it goes into normal mode like other mfg's BT dongles (Yamaha etc.).

Following the WIDI demo is my first Roland MC-101 demo, right out of the box. What a great little unit. The WIDI allowed me to use my CME XKey Air 25 to add expression (velocity/aftertouch) the the MC-101 (the pads don’t send either).

With the MC-101 0n batteries as well as the XKey, it’s a great wireless MIDI, portable studio. You can add samples to the SD card from iPhones now (with a simple card adapter) so a computer is not needed, only for Roland Cloud patches :-)"

Lorre-Mill Double Knot V2 Meets O_c, Roland MC-101, Pocket PO-12, NanoSynth NS1 & Bastl Kastle

Found the above via the listing below.

via this auction

"Unique synthesizer / Sequencer. This is an incredible piece of Musical Technology. It's call the Lorre-Mill Double Knot V2. Comes with 7 Banana Cables (good quality ones too), Original Box, Power Adapter, Printed Manual & Unit. Start using right out of the box. If you never owned one of these before, then your in for a Sonic Shock as you Patch & tweak the 2 Sequencers on board.

You may be asking what is this?

Well the Double Knot is a Semi-Modular synthesizer/Sequencer & is a collection of some analog blocks and simple digital logic blocks to construct Electronic sound patterns. The interface is made up of knobs, switches, and banana plugs for patching. Inside the Double Knot synthesizer there are two voices.

Each voice consists of a Triangle/Square wave oscillator, a shift register sequencer, an enveloper and a voltage controlled amplifier. To set the tempo of the shift registers there is a clock. Functional blocks associated with the clock are an XOR gate and a binary counter. One of the aims of this design is to provide the most flexibility while still having some shape to the piece. The envelopers are triggered by the shift registers unless the trigger inputs are used. The triangle outputs of the oscillators are fed to voltage controlled amplifiers. This makes the Double Knot semi-modular. This system can be used to make complex textural sounds and FM Drones, or Techno Drums at Polyrhythmic Intervals.

This is the V2 version which has enhanced and newer features such as newer enveloper design with mode switch to set trigger mode, loop mode or off. wide range cv input can nearly halt envelope mid-decay for sample/hold type output. trigger input in lieu of the fill input from the previous model.

The shift registers on this unit are CD4015 with 4 bit R2R DAC on the first four stages and logic outputs on the last four stages

Also to add to the percussive effect we can shape the envelopers by feeding the outputs back to the CV inputs and then tweaking the knobs to get the shape to a more dramatic slope. ● Lengthen the decay by turning the decay knob counter-clockwise and add positive modulation by turning the CV level knob clockwise. Now you are bouncing.

One amazing Feature on this unit is the FM Modulation. The FM section allows easy modulation of one oscillator to the other or both at the same time. with a knob for FM amount, a CV in jack that allows control of FM index and a toggle switch to set the modulation routing

This is indeed an amazing piece of Technology. I truly enjoyed this and will miss it a lot. I have a few Youtube Videos so feel free to browse my more recent Videos. just go to youtube and type in the search engine rhampton1914 and my latest is there. An open box Video is on this link."
