Serge Modular Analog Synthesizer & Processor w 8 Preamp Detectors & N Comparator

via eBay

"Up for auction is a beautiful condition Serge Modular Fully Loaded Panel! As you can tell from the photographs, the synth is in immaculate shape and feels exactly like it did straight from Rex Probe at Sound Transform Systems! This Serge is a 1996 Serge and features the build quality and routing of the older more expensive (and expansive) Serge designs. For anyone looking to expand on their Serge rig or their current modular system, this is a great panel to buy. Because this panel features balanced line level inputs it can also be used as a standalone studio/live processors. It's particular strength in this arrangement is multichannel audio processing, but due to the versatility of the modules included, it could also be used for generative and trigger synthesis work. This Serge has had only one owner and I was in charge of maintaining and programming it while I worked for Asphodel Studios and Records/RML. I can assure you that you will not find a better Serge panel unless you order a new one straight from STS. Everything is in mint working order physically and electronically. Scroll towards the bottom to see a video in which the Serge made an appearance in ;-) Also, the information on each module below has been quoted from the original Serge product catalogue. One last important note is that there is no power supply included with this panel. One will have to be ordered from STS if the highest bidder does not already have one.

Preamp Detector:
The new Serge preamps and envelope detectors provide an exceptionally responsive link between external audio signals and the Serge synthesizer modules. The key to this responsivity comes from the fact that our detector was designed to respond to the POWER rather than to the AMPLITUDE of a sound. No other synthesizer system offers this sophisticated capability. Human perception of loudness is proportional to the POWER content of a wave, rather than to its AMPLITUDE. Detecting the AMPLITUDE of a signal produces an inaccurate envelope, sometimes too soft, and most of the time too loud. The new Serge detectors are exceptionally accurate, responsive devices which output a control voltage envelope that is directly proportional to the perceived loudness of an input signal. It operates over a very wide dynamic range, in excess of 70 db, (or the difference between a whisper and a subway train at IS feet!). The output is accurately log--linear at 12 .5 db per volt, a taper which mates perfectly with the. control characteristics of our newest VCA's. Thus it is possible, for example, to control the loudness of a synthesizer sound by the sound envelope of a locomotive, a dog barking, or a voice going from a whisper to a shout. The effect is especially remarkable because of the accuracy of the responses the whisper is really a whisper, and the shout a shout. The PREAMP DETECTOR (PRNV) allies a Serge detector with a multi - purpose preamp suitable for a wide variety of inputs. The LO - Z input accepts high output microphones in the 200 t o 1000 Ohms range (such as most electret microphones), with a sensitivity suited for close - mitring applications such as instrument or voice pickup. The H I - Z input accepts transducers such as guitar pick-ups and contact microphones. It is also suited for- amplifying low level signals from tape machines, tuners, etc. Detector and Preamp can be switched to work separately or Coupled. Sensitivity for the various microphones and audio sources can be adjusted over a very wide range using the Preamp's gain control. Please note that it will not cut the gain to zero. With the Dual Comparator Module, exceeding a pre-set loudness level can be used to provide a trigger pulse to initiate any number of activities within the synthesizer.

N Comparator and Voltage Divider:
The NCOMPARATOR (NCOM) consists of two sections: a comparator and a voltage-control led pulse divider. The divider section outputs a pulse once every "N" comparator pulse, where "N" is a number from 1 to 31, settable with a control voltage at the divider's VC input (or manually via the divider's control knob). Additionally, the Divider outputs a staircase wave with "N" steps. This will produce whole-tone steps when plugged into the 1 V/Oct input of a VCO. This module has two distinct areas of use (in addition to the normal functions of the comparator). For audio frequencies, the divider can be set to Output sub-divided frequencies with digital precision. Output frequency depends on "N". If "N"= ` . 3,4, etc., the output frequencies will be an octave, an octave and a fifth. Or two octaves below the input, respectively. Because "N" is voltage controllable, arpeggios and various melodies can easily be programmed. The nature of this type of division (integer division), results in frequencies that fal l along the sub--harmonic series, a series that has great tonal charm. For sub--audio frequencies, the divider acts like a counter, outputting a pulse only after "N" number of input Pulse. Input pulse's can be fairly random, or regular . This capability is especially powerful for determining tempos and rhythmic patterns when using several sequencers (especially if the "N" vc input is taken from one of a Sequencer's rows of controls). In a more random Situation, using a microphone preamp/detector as input, the divider might be set to count how many times a sound of a certain loudness will have occured, and be set to trigger an event upon reaching the count . Since the Count can be made variable (from 1 to 31), fairly complex and subtle interactions can be generated.

VAV N-Wave: Middle-Out Waveshaper

video upload by Magical Synth Adventure

"Join me as I take the @control_voltage VAV N-Wave Middle-Out Waveshaper for a spin!

The N-Wave is a really imaginative waveshaper. Some waveshapers might fold over the peaks of an incoming waveform, some might rectify them - squaring things off like a fuzz pedal. N-wave keeps the peaks of waveform - like the top and bottom of a saw wave - intact, and instead lets you shape and turn up on the volume on a section in the middle of the waveform - leading to unique tones. This is especially true, as you can vary the width of this middle section!"

video uploads by control_voltage

Playlist:

1. VAV N-Wave: Step Sequenced Threshold
One fun live performance (or studio) use for the N-Wave is to connect a Step Sequencer on the Threshold CV and generate different timbres for each step in a sequence. These act as accents and add a lot of life and feel to your sequences and the feel can easily be changed on the fly using something like a Joranalogue Step 8 as your source of steps.
2. VAV N-Wave: Threshold Ring Modulation
In Part 2 of the VAV N-Wave Video Manual, we look at using the threshold control and bipolar vca cv to create new waveforms that have a mixture of normal and ring modulated (quadrature) segments.
3. VAV N-Wave Mangles a Triangle
Here, the N-Wave does quite a number on an unsuspecting triangle wave with the help of some nearby modules. N-Wave is kind of like that one kid's house where everyone hung out and cooked up weird DnD campaigns or something. But for modular signals.

"N-Wave is a novel waveshaper for the Eurorack modular format. Unlike traditional wavefolders and clippers, which operate on the peaks of a waveform, N-Wave leaves peaks intact. All you need to expand your sound palette greatly is a VCO signal and a few twists of the knobs!

Using its internal bipolar VCA (aka four quadrant multiplier, aaka ring modulator) you can apply gain reduction and polarity inversion to an inner portion of the wave slope that you define with the THRESHOLD and OFFSET controls.

All functions can also be controlled via control voltage inputs. LFOs, Audio Rate VCOs, ADSR Envelopes, 1V/Oct signals, sequenced voltages, sample and hold signals, noise, and sub octave signals are all very good choices and can produce results ranging from very musical to very strange. An external detector signal can also be applied if you don't want to trigger the detector on the waveform you're modifying.

If you like, you can also use N-Wave as a high quality bipolar VCA, attenuverter, or ring modulator with the THRESHOLD set to maximum and dynamically mute the effect by applying 0V or a negative voltage to the threshold either using a sequencer or manual control, which allows for hocketing and rhythmic effects.

N-Wave can also operate all the way down to 0hz (DC), so, in addition to audio, it can process LFOs, envelopes, 1V/octave sequences, and any other signal that varies amplitude over time (Sorry, square waves and pulse waves. Your super-sonic rise times are hard to shape in an audible way, but you do work well as control signals).

N-Wave is 10HP and uses Burr Brown op amps for the primary signal path alongside high quality Texas Instruments ICs that are carefully chosen to best fit their roles in the circuit."

"VCTimeGen Clock (TGC)

The VC TimeGen Clock has the left cell "blue" out being an asymmetrical tri wave & "red"out being a 50% duty cycle square wave output which stays constant through the manual "freq' POT range in combination with the "both" position selected w/ external CV -- BUT with the ability to modify the duty cycle (pulsewidth) of the output(s) using external CV source from either the front or the back ofthe pulse by selecting "rise" or "fall" on the CV source select switch. That way you can create syncopation in the rhythm patches & pulse width mod in the audio range use.

The right cell has DTG functionality, just like the CV TimeGen OSC.

÷N Comparator (NCOM)

The ÷ N COMPARATOR (NCOM) consists of two sections: a comparator and a voltage-controlled pulse divider. The divider section outputs a pulse once every "N" comparator pulse, where "N" is a number from 1 to 31, settable with a control voltageat the divider's VC input (or manually via the divider's control knob). Additionally, the Divider outputs a staircase wave with "N" steps. This will produce whole-tone steps when plugged into the 1 V/Oct input of aVCO.

This module has two distinct areas of use (in addition to the normal functions of the comparator):

For audio frequencies, the divider can be set to output sub-divided frequencies with digital precision. Output frequency depends on "N". If "N"= 2, 3, 4, etc., the output frequencies will be an octave, an octave and a fifth. or two octaves below the input, respectively. Because "N"is voltage controllable, arpeggios and various melodies can easily be programmed. The nature of this type of division (integer division), results in frequencies that fall along the sub-harmonic series, a series that has great tonal charm.
For sub-audio frequencies, the divider acts like a counter, outputting a pulse only after "N" number of input pulses. Input pulses can be fairly random, or regular. This capability is especially powerful for determining tempos and rhythmic patterns when using several sequencers (especially if the "N" vc input is taken from one of a sequencers rows of controls). In a more random situation, using a microphone preamp/detector as input. the divider might be set to count how many times a sound of a certain loudness will have occurred, and be set to trigger an event upon reaching the count. Since the count can be made variable (from 1 to 31), fairly complex and subtle inter-actions can be generated.
Wizardry: With feedback, this can be patch-programmed to oscillate. You can vary the frequency by turning the divider control knob. Using this module to divide clock pulses is an obvious application; it is also useful for dividing high-frequency audio.

DualAnalog Shift Register w/ input attenuator pot (2ASR)

The ANALOG SHIFT REGISTER (ASR) is a sequential sample and hold module for producing arabesque-like forms in musicalspace (see diagram). Whenever pulsed, the previously held voltage is sent down the line to three consecutive outputs to produce the electrical equivalent of a canonical musical structure. A pulse output permits linking two or more Analog Shift Registers together to form longer patterns.

Quantizer(QUAN)
The QUANTIZER (QUAN) provides a simple means to turn any control voltage into voltage steps corresponding to well tuned (equal - tempered) tones of the musical scale. It is scaled to 1volt per octave. Thus, a zero to +5 volt envelope at the Quantizer's input produces a staircase of voltages corresponding to a chromatic scale spanningfive octaves.

If patched to the 1 volt per octave input of an oscillator tuned to "E", a gradual slope of 1 volt applied to the input of the Quantizer will produce the following steps of the musical scales:
E - F - F# - G - G# - A - A# - B - C - C# - D - D# - E. (normal chromaticscale)

If the 1/6 Scale Select is HIGH, then the scale produced will be:
E - F# - G# - A# - C - D - E. (whole - tone scale)

If the 1/3 Scale select is HIGH, then the scale produced will be:
E - G# - C - E. (scale of major third steps)

If both the 1/6 and 1/3 inputs are high, the scale will be:
E - F - G# - A - C - C# - E. (alternating half - step/minor third step)

Since the Scale Select inputs can be activated very quickly, the Quantizer can produce a very wide variety of tonal effects, quickly moving between four different types of musical scales(chromatic, whole - tone, the augmented triad, and a six - step major - minor scale often heard in certain oriental musics).

The Quantizer features six channels, as a "stand - alone" module, and takes up two inches of panel space. Accuracy of the Quantizer is 3 cents maximum deviation from the ideal equal -tempered semi - tone over a five octave range (i.e. just about the limits ofpitch sensitivity of the human ear). Response time for all channels is about 8 milliseconds."

Mutable (ST)RINGS | Modular Composing | Open Sequencing

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I guess it's much cheaper to find new use to existing modules instead of getting more modules that don't really add anything new. We all know Mutable Rings, it's our modular guitar. So how about trying to play it like a guitar? In this video, I'll use a static arp, like the strings on a guitar, tuned to whatever you like (like Fripp's New Standard Tuning) and then move the individual notes around like a fretboard. It's like a note-by-note transpose. Do you know any sequencer that can do this? Sure! Five12 Vector has chance operations and subsequencers. Westlicht has note ranges and you can use Track B to transpose track A. But you can't transpose the indivual notes in an ARP with their own subsequences. I've been working on this idea because it's a cool addition to our stochastic generative dice controlled compositions. I'd like to all it 'open sequencing' as a tribute to 'open composers' from the 50's and 60's. People like John Cage and Hans Otte, but also people like Robert Fripp (tuning of fifths) and Hans Zimmer (double harmonic dune scale).

It's even cooler to use a module that allows you to build what doesn't exist yet, lke Monome Teletype. I wrote a script you can load in your module, but Teletype is also part of the VCV free module collection. I bet you'd never use it without some help. So here's a script you can cut, paste in a .TXT and load it into the 'active script' of Teletype."

SERGE MODULAR ANALOG SYNTHESIZER

images via this auction

"Each of the two panels was designed as a complete system or voice in and of itself but combined together there is an exponential increase in sonic power. The other important thing to remember is that with the Serge many of the modules can perform a number of different functions and the concept of "patch programmable" is inherent in the design. Based on how you patch the modules this system could have over 10 oscillators, 10 LFO's, 4 Envelopes, 6 Filters, 2 Sample and Holds, 5 VCA's, all sorts of cv and audio modifiers, mixers, sequencer and a whole lot more. The power is unmatched in any other system and would require a much larger system from other manufacturers to provide this level of functionality.

TOP PANEL:

* 8x2 Sequencer: This is an eight by two manual and clocked sequencer with some unique functions. The main CV outputs are "A" for the first set of 8 knobs in Row A and "B" for the second set of 8 voltage knobs for Row B plus a third output that is the difference of A and B. There is a main Clock Input that can be manually toggled on/of with the toggle switch. The sequencer can be clocked buy any red jack output as well as some of the blue outputs that have sharp positive going signals. The other inputs are for "Hold" which will stop the sequencer at what ever stage it is at when a trigger or gate is input. The Up/Down Input reverses that direction of the sequencer whenever it receives a pulse and the Reset input resets the Sequencer to the first stage when a pulse is applied. Each stage has a manual select button which can be used to select that stage when used as a manual CV programmer and when being clocked the buttons can be used to set the length of the sequence dynamically from between 1 to 8 steps. This allows for some amazing rhythmic patterns and dynamic changes. Really powerful and great for TB-303 type use.

* Active Processor: This module is basically a dynamic voltage controlled mixer and cross fader an can be used with either control voltages or audio signals. A cross fade mod input allows you to dynamically mix and or fade between the signals coming in the two inputs. You can also use this as a VC switch by allying a gate to the input. The bottom section is a cv inverter with the addition of a knob to further bias the output + or -.
* Dual Transient Generator: This module is one of the most powerful in the Serge system and uses the same circuit as the Dual Universal Slope Generator but is only 2" wide. Each side of this module can perform the following functions: Attack Decay Envelope, Attack Sustain, Decay Envelope, Low Frequency Oscillator, Audio Oscillator, Positive/Negative CV Slew, Audio Filter, Envelope Follower. Each side has a modulation input with a knob to determine if the incoming mod signal will modulate in a positive or negative direction. The left side has a black Input Jack the provides for filtering, slewing and envelope following. The right side has a 3 position switch that allows you to define if the incoming modulation signal at the bottom will modulate the Attack Time only, Decay Time Only or both Attack and Decay. You can get voltage controlled wave shape modulation as well....all amazingly cool!Note that the arrows for the switch and the Input jack are backwards on this module only and that is the way it came from the factory. Nothing wrong, you just need to keep that in mind.
* NTO New Timbral Oscillator: The NTO is one of the most powerful oscillators ever and has incredible sonics and versatility...like most Serge Modules. There are simultaneous Sawtooth, Triangle and Sine wave outputs in addition to a Variable Waveform output whose waveform can be CV selected, modulated and controlled. There are (3) control inputs...a 1volt/octave, a mod input with a knob to determined + or - direction and a voltage controlled portamento input. This is a cv input with voltage controlled slewing or glide with the addition of a manual knob to set the basic amount of slewing!! Last but not least is a voltage controlled FM input with an offset knob. There is also a Sync input to allow for syncing to another audio signal. This single oscillator can make truly incredible sounds and can be modulated out the wazoo.

This one was spotted and sent in via xonox who noticed the following: "No mention is made in the auction but there is AFX scratched on the surface of the machine. According to Ed DMX (DMX Krew), Aphex Twin used one on his early tracks. Interview here. It is not my auction, i have no insider knowledge on anything either. Is it possible it's indeed one of AFX's drum machines or is it some classic AFX prank ?"

The SD140 has only been featured on the site twice before this post.

The following is the full description from the listing saved for the archives:

"Up for sale a unique extremely rare vintage drum machine. impossible to find it in another place. Many years ago I found this diamond and made the service in a professional workshop. Please note - this is an old gear for the collection and synth enthusiasts, this drum machine is in working condition, but I will not accept any returns and no compensation after the sale - please accept it. These are the first innovative electronic music devices and therefore you can see in the pictures the old technology of plastic coatings and touch buttons have traces of use, but all functions and buttons are well work.- It runs on 220 volt AC.The sound of this beast is very unique, the sound structure and flow are capable of creating incredible emotions and creative potency. The sound is incredibly relevant, I give a detailed description below. The package will be sent internationally, I pack the electronics well — a double strong box and a lot of bubble — look at my seller feedback.

EML POLY-BOX KEYBOARD REMOTE CONTROLLER

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction
"This is an excellent working condition EML POLY-BOX. This is remote control keyboard. Super clean unit with that has very little use. This unit was tested and works perfectly. Devo was well known for using one of these. This was owned by a musician who is having financial problems, he is forced to sell this rare gem. It has just 2 tiny nicks near the front left(See photo 17), rest is virtually flawless. It looks like it is 1 year old not over 30. Only 130 of these were ever produced, trying to fnd one is this condition, nearly impossible.

Back in the day, most synthesizers were monophonic - that is they could play only 1 note at a time. EML realized this limitation and came up with the Polybox. This rare little box has built in oscillators which track the pitch of an incoming audio signal really well - even following vibrato and portamento successfully. Take any monophonic synthesizer audio output, patch it into this synth and play the Polybox's keys along with the mono melody to convert it to chords. Or lock the chord memory so it follows your melody automatically with a set chord that's transposed along with the melody's pitch. Or play its internal oscillators as their own instrument. This is a very cool, unique and extremely useful tool!

ONLY LISTING ON EBAY OR THE ENTIRE NET

Specifications Polyphony - 26 voices (13 per bank) Oscillators - n/a
LFO - n/a
Filter - n/a
VCA - n/a
Keyboard - 13 keys
Memory - 26 patches
Control - CV/Gate
Date Produced - 1977-84

This is info gathered from one of EML's founders, Jeff Murray. This is reprinted from Vintage Synthesizers. [on Amazon]

The Poly-Box.
On the heels of introducing some fairly straightforward synth equipment, EML did an about-face and came out with one of the strangest accessories ever designed for mono- and duophonic synths: the Poly-Box, which had only a one-octave keyboard (C to C ). If you sent one or more notes into the Poly-Box’s audio input and played a chord on its keyboard, the Poly-Box would output a chord based on the incoming note (the root) and the notes depressed on the Poly-Box keyboard. Each key was programmable within a four-octave range, and memory could store up to 26 notes for automated pitch-following of a synthesizer. “The Poly-Box was kind of a cool instrument,” says Murray. “A lot of early synthesizers were just one- or two-note devices, but with the Poly-Box you could play chords. It had phase-lock-loop circuitry so that it could follow the frequency of an incoming audio signal. Then you could hit a chord on the Poly-Box and it would synthesize all the other frequencies of the chord.” EML made around 130 Poly-Boxes between 1977 and 1984. It originally listed for $475.

'It's more for those old mono's you can't get to be poly. sure there's poly synths falling out of trees these days, but there's no polyphonic version of vintage synths falling out of trees and that's where this baby fills the gap!'

'This is a very rare and unusual keyboard that acts as a unique accessory for any monophonic synthesizer or sound source. Plug a mono source into the input of the Poly Box and it will take the input waveform and allow you to play chords with it, effectively turning a mono source into a polyphonic output. It also has its own internal oscillators, so it can generate polyphonic sound all by itself. You can lock a chord on the Poly Box and then vary the pitch of the mono input, thereby changing the root pitch of the output chord. Additional controls allow you to add an additional tone either one or two octaves below the input, and to transpose everything down an octave, as well as adjust brilliance and add phasing. This unit takes your mono synth into a whole new world of polyphony.'

'I blame DEVO for my lust of the EML.'"

GRP A4 [NOISEBUG] USED

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Grp Synthesizer was developed to offer the enthusiasts of analogical sound a more affordable synth in terms of price and dimension in comparison with the precursor model A8, without renouncing to the quality and performance that characterize our synths. Being featured with the same step sequencer used for the Grp A8, this synth is able to guarantee nearly infinite sound combinations due to the new characteristics which have been implemented in the instrument, with the possibility to filter out external signals and to manage all the important parameters of the analogical generation chain.

The A4 has been derived from an audio section of the Grp A8 (of which it takes over the structure) and it results more versatile and eclectic passing from smooth and extreme clean sonorities to harder sounds thanks to the two distortion installed in the synth (one for each filter) and due to the possibility to make interact synth, ring modulator, external signals and step sequencer in only on mechanism with an immense sonority power. Furthermore, the Loop EG function enables the conditioned and unconditioned repetition of the envelope, in order to reach particular and temporal articulated sonorities."

Pics of the inside below.

"Originally bought new in a musical instrument shop in Turin in 1981 (one of the few authorised ARP dealer at that time...) and barely used in my smoking-free studio then put away in his flight case for a very long time, now I would like to find a new owner / collector who will be able to give it the right value and care he deserves.

The keyboard is 100% original except for very few replaced components described below. Really outstanding for a Quadra! It will not be easy to find one in such original state as they are very delicate and it is easy to find yourself in a dead end when you repair one...

New Eurorack Modules Coming From Doepfer

Doepfer will be showcasing the above new modules at SUPERBOOTH25. Details on each follow.
Check with dealers on the right for upcoming availability.

Module A-119-2 is kind of a dual version of module A-119 without envelope follower. Instead two amplifiers are available and the module width is 4 HP only.

The module contains two amplifiers with separately adjustable amplification levels. Each channel is equipped with an overload display. The module can be used also for stereo signals, e.g. the stereo output of a smartphone.

Controls and displays:

Level 1/2: manual control of the amplification in the range 0 - about 45.

Overload 1/2: overload LED, begins to light up for output levels beyond about 10Vpp (+/-5V)

In 1: audio input 1 (monophonic or stereophonic, see technical details)

In 2: audio input 2 (monophonic)

Out 1/2: audio output (monophonic)

Technical details:

for higher amplifications the two amplifiers can be daisy-chained

normalling options: the signal applied to socket In 1 can be normalled to socket In 2 in different ways by means of a jumper on the pc board:

socket In 1 is connected via a mono patch cable (standard patch cable) to a monophonic signal and this signal is normalled to socket In 2 (i.e. the same input signal for both sub-units): jumper on pin header JP2 in upper position

socket In 1 is connected via a 3.5 mm stereo TRS cable to a stereophonic signal and the second channel of the stereo signal is normalled to socket In 2: jumper on pin header JP2 in lower position

no normalling: jumper is removed from pin header JP2

all inputs and outputs are DC coupled. Thus the module can be used also for the amplifications of control voltages.

JH. Interpolating Scanner and Scanner Chorus / Vibrato

"In the 1990s, I have designed an "Interpolating Scanner", a CV-controlled linear crossfade over a certain number of VCAs, to be the center module of my JH-3 modular synthesizer. You can read all about it here, including a block diagram, schematics using now obsolete SSM chips (not recommended any longer for building), and a glimpse of its widely varying applications such as a voltage controlled crossfader, a wavefolder with dynamic breakpoints, a tracking generator with voltage controlled breakpoints, or voltage controlled non-harmonic modulator." More info including links, images and samples here.

Update: Ordering info from JH:

"Hi,

I have sucessfully built and tested a prototype of my new PCB project, and I'm starting to take pre-orders for these PCBs now.

To avoid any confusion: There is *one* PCB that allows to build two different projects:

(1) 9-Stage Interpolating Scanner Module with onboard VC LFO

(2) Emulation of Hammond Scanner Chorus / Vibrato

I've sent out two separate mails for the two applications, but it's based on the *same* PCB.

So if you want to build three Interpolating Scanner modules plus two Chorus / Vibrato devices, simply order 5 "Scanner PCBs", using the order form below.

A description of the projects can be found here.

Like the previous Tau project, the PCB allows the connection of a mains transformer + fuses if you are skilled in working on mains voltage, or the connection of an AC wallwart of about 16 ... 18V (AC), or you can power it from a clean +/-15V Dual DC power supply.

For the latter, you'll have to solder in wires, however. There was no room for a MOTM or synthesizers.com power connector.

One word to possible MOTM customers:

You can build a full-fledged Interpolating Scanner, using this PCB.

Paul has announced an Interpolating Scanner (which I've also designed) several years ago, and fairness demands that I mention this, as there is a possible overlapping customers base for the two projects.

What I'm offereing is strictly DIY (you're buying the PCB and you have to build it and fit it into your system somehow). OTOH, with a module of 9 inputs, you'll always have a bigger than standard sized module. (A 19" 2U panel with a row of 9 input jacks and 9 potentiometers above these jacks might be a good solution.)

But then again, it's an open secret that this is my personal favorite of all modules I've ever done and my motto is "You can never have enough Interpolating Scanners in a Modular" :) , so there will be room for a DIY project now, *and* (maybe) a ready made, 6-input, MOTM version later.

A description of my _first_ Interpolating Scanner (with 8 inputs and SSM VCAs) is also still online:

http://www.jhaible.de/tonline_stuff/jh_ipscan.html
http://www.jhaible.de/tonline_stuff/jh_ipsc_blk.gif

You might find this useful because of the description of possible applications and the block diagram. The new one is slightly different, with 9 inputs, and an on-board VC LFO (!). No "scan left" CV input, though.

Also watch out for updates of the official project page - this describes the PCB you're buying.

Scanner order form
=================================================================================

Email subjet line: "Scanner PCB order [n] sets of boards"

=================================================================================

Email text:

I'm ordering [n] Scanner PCBs

for EUR 27.00 per board

plus EUR 4.00 for shipping and handling per order.

There may be addional tax and / or customs fees in my country - these will be paid by me (the buyer), not by the seller.

I'm aware that I'm only buying a blank PCB that may help me building a Scanner module - I'm *not* buying a diy kit, not a "project" - just a pice of FR4 with copper traces. By placing my order, I agree to these terms.

My adress is:

[Full shipping adress, as it will appear on the envelope for sending you the

PCBs]

My paypal adress is:

[your paypal adress]

========================================================================================

(Don't forget the email subject line with the number of PCBs ! )

Looking forward to hear from you,

JH." you can find JH's contact info at the very bottom of this page. There's a pretty cute shot of a young one starting early at the bottom of the page. :)
