"You'll never believe what we found sitting on the curb in our neighborhood a few months back. This fully operational Kawai K5 digital synth! A neighbor put a few keyboards on the curb and posted an ad to Craigslist. I guess the original owner got sick of additive synthesis. So we took the Kawai home and fired it up. It's a digital synth made in 1987, and seems to have it's own unique sound. I decided to plug it into my trusty Strymon TimeLine delay and see if I could come up with a few sounds and some song ideas for my new album. After many months, I finally completed the demo of the two together. :)"

1. DSI OB-6/Korg MS-20 Mini/Roland TR-8/Strymon Big Sky & Timeline - Big Time, Sky Line

A quick little Sunday jam featuring my new favourite synthesizer the DSI/Tom Oberheim OB-6! The OB-6 is holding a pad that's LFO clock synced to modulate various parameters over time. That shares a stereo image with a Strymon Big Sky. The MS-20 is going into the Timeline for rhythmic delays. The TR-8 is on one track, dry, shitty, and over compressed.

2. Korg MS-20 Mini/Dave Smith OB-6/Roland TR-8/Strymon Big Sky - Mason Jar

"It's been a LONGGG time since I posted anything and I've been wanting to do something with drums for awhile now! I've recently been selling off tons of gear to fund a small but high end minimal set up and although I'm not quite there yet, I did manage to throw this together in one quick take. Here's what's happening:

Arturia Beat Step Pro is sending a sequence to the MS-20 mini via midi. The TR-8 is synced to the clock and somewhat pre programmed. The MS-20 is also being sent to a Strymon Big Sky (though I did add some UAD Lexicon 224 to it and the drums afterwords). The OB-6 has a two note, one chord sequence held down consistently that has a tempo synced LFO modulating the filter frequency and type. Everything was done live in one take and no over dubs, though I did add some quick and sloppy automation while mixing.

Everything was tracked through UAD's Studer tape plug-in and the MS-20 had a little compression from an LA-3A. I threw an 1176 on the stereo track of the TR-8, though its not compressing much. On the master bus there's UAD master tape and another 1176 doing some work! I don't mind noise. I don't mind hiss. And I love throwing tape plug ins on everything. Even if it isn't doing much, it comforts me.

I've recently gotten really into Pye Corner Audio's Head Technician side project which used nothing but a 303, 202, and 606. I felt super inspired by that minimalism and hope to get a similar set up going soon! Regardless, that's why my MS-20 probably ended up wishing it was a 303 in this video. Sorry. I'll take a TB-03 for christmas though Santa!"

"Electronica Live Synthesizer Jam using the ARP 2600 for Bass and the Korg Volca Keys, Arturia Microbrute and Korg M50 for Lead Sequencer lines. The Delay (Strymon Timeline) and Reverb (Strymon BigSky) effects are synced via Midi Clock. Once again I think that I have subconsciously been influenced by the music of Jean-Michel Jarre, although this track is a bit more on the aggressive side with its 130 BPM.

Acire 🥉(Erica Synths LXR02 & DB01 // Conductive Labs NDLR turning the LXR02 into a polyphonic synth)

"If you've already watched a some of my videos, you might know that I sometimes like to divert a few electronic instruments from their use 😅
So here the challenge was to make the LXR-02 (which is supposed to be mainly a digital drum synth) act as a drum machine & a polyphonic pads synth 😄

For this, I used the Conductive Labs NDLR sequencer with its polychain feature (on its PAD track) which can turn up to 4 mono synths into a 4-voice polyphonic synth. (I used this feature on another video, this time with 4 physical analog mono synths: [below]).

Therefore I used 3 of the tracks of the LXR-02 to play 3-note chords by the NDLR. I used the LXR's individual output, through the Strymon Bigsky reverb for the PADS (through the Pill ducking pedal being triggered by the LXR's drum kick).

I also used 1 track of the LXR-02 to play the ARP part (also sequenced by the NDLR). This time the individual output went through the Strymon Timeline delay.

The Erica Synths DB-01 was used to play the bass riff (still sequenced by the NDLR) through the Eventide - H9 pedal (with some heavy modulated Chorus bringing a Lo-Fi vibe to the sound!).

"I wanted to use a couple of the nice features of the NDLR for this video, so I went to set up 6 analog mono synths all sequenced by the NDLR, a couple of effects and the Tanzbar drum machine for this video!

The first feature used here is poly chaining, where 1 track (PAD track) of the NDLR sent 4-note chords to 4 mono synths (Erica Synths - DB01, Make Noise - 0Coast, Roland - SE02 and Novation - Circuit Mono Station), considering them as a unique 4-voice polyphonic synth!

It reminded me a bit me my wonderful Vermona Perfourmer, where each voice of the synth can have different setting regarding the oscillators, envelopes, filter etc. 🤩

I needed to make some quite complex routing in order to be able to side chain the pads with the kick of the MFB - Tanzbar analog drum machine.

I also used the 'chord sequencer' of the NDLR in order to play the whole track as a song (it's like a song mode, where sequences automatically change the global chords).

Here are some further details on the setup:

* PAD: DB01 to SE02 to Bigsky (Right Input) to The Pill Pedal (Input 1) triggered by Tanzbar's kick
* PAD: 0Coast to Circuit Mono Station to Bigsky (Left Input) to The Pill Pedal (Input 2) triggered by Tanzbar's kick

These 4 analog synths were set up in order to respond to the poly chain function of the NDLR (i.e. With a 4-note chord, the NDLR will send each note to one the 4 synths).

* DRONE (Bass): The Moog - Minitaur was being triggered by the DRONE track for the bass.
* MOTIF (Melody): The Arturia - Minibrute 1, through the ZVEX - Instant Lofi Junky & Strymon - Timeline

I forgot to mention that the Tanzbär's main output was processed by the Eventide - H9 (Reverse Delay) effect, excluding its kick which was outputted on its separate output in order to trigger the side chain for the pads on the Pill Pedal."

It pairs perfectly with the tape head echoes to provide an extra dimension of space and sound.

Generalissmo’s four heads are aligned so that the fourth head is the ‘quarter-note’ head, determined by the tapped tempo or clock input. The other heads are spaced at selectable subdivisions from equally-spaced sixteenth notes, triplet rhythm, or uneven spacing. Each head has it’s own CLOCK OUT jack, providing sub-divided clock signals determined by the selected spacing. Send a trigger to align the clock edges, or let them run free.

With the Feedback turned up, Generalissimo will easily self-oscillate, even with no input applied. The Speed knob acts as a pitch control, allowing you to use the Generalissimo as a slightly unpredictable sound source, as the speed, filtering, and frequencies present in the tape oscillation work in harmony to find the most willing harmonic content to keep the party going. Add the Reverb to this madness, and you enter into uncharted sci-fi soundscapes.

Generalissimo’s Speed knob is the fun performance tool, calibrated in a very musical and playable way so that it’s easy to hit octaves when adjusting the pitch. The Tap button sets the delay time, effectively determining the tempo by setting the tape head distance. The Tap control is entirely independent of the Speed setting, and this independence is key to the huge impact Generalissimo will have on your sound and creativity."

"A while ago I was on the lookout for videos demonstrating Strymon Big Sky Reverberator, Moogerfooger mf 101 Low pass Filter & Moogerfooger mf-102 Ring modulator and it was kind of like falling into a bottomless black hole with zillions of clips with nerdy guitar players... :-) If the effect sounds great on guitar there is no guarantee it will sound likewise on a trumpet.. I couldn´t really find any horn players using the effects I was interested in so I thought I´d post this clip if anybody out there is like me and always on the prowl for new sounds.."

Strymon phaser shootout: Zelzah vs Mobius (no talk)

"The Strymon Zelzah phaser vs the Strymon Mobius is a music-only comparison for hardcore phaser fans! There aren't too many true stereo in and out phasers and Strymon have two of them. I bought the Zelzah first and have been very happy with it, but after buying the Mobius I've begun to question whether I really need the Zelzah as well. But can the multi-effect Mobius do as well as a dedicated phaser? Here I've tried to match the sounds reasonably closely and mainly stick to 4 and six stage examples. The Zelzah can also do chorus and flanging but it seemed to be stretching things a bit to go there as well so I've stuck with the phaser. Both units were set to maximum stereo width for the entire demo.

Conclusions are up to the listener but to my ears they sound very similar. The Zelzah at times had a brighter and cleaner edge that I couldn't get on the Mobius, but the Mobius was able to get a much deeper effect which I often had to dial back to match the Zelzah. The synth used for the demo is the Rev2 8-voice.

Getting back on track after some time away from the studio, best recipe is to scale things down and focus on just one instrument. Today the Moog Subsequent gets a rundown, a moody laid back tune that that popped up straight off the bat when i turned the sub37 on.

All you hear in the track is the subsequent 37, with bass loop from the same pre-recorded into the EHX 720 stereo looper which kicks in halfway through the track. FX on duty is ICE delay algorithm on the timeline, plus a modulated room reverb in the bluesky.

The sub37 Filter envelopes are set to looping/latched, so the synth is in latch mode all through the track, forcing me to adapt my playing on the keyboards to ensure proper demarcation of the single and duo mode (set to low note prio) when alternating between one and two keys pressed.

This playing technique give a very wide palette with just the one sound, no need to swap patches, just play two notes for more mellow melodies, alternate to one key mono style for that larger 2VCO sound.

Strymon Big Sky vs GFI SYSTEM Specular V3

"Comparision of two great reverb pedals. The very popular Strymon Big Sky against the quite unknown GFI SYSTEM Specular Reverb V3.

The Strymon contains 12 algorithms and a lot of parameters, whereas the GFI is ab bit simpler. It contains only 7 algorithms. But it costs only about half the price of the Strymon. Soundwise both are great. I prefer the GFI, because I think it sounds warmer and is incredible for ambient stuff.

I tried to compare some similar algorithms and didn't manage to match exactly the same settings.
1. Big Sky Shimmer vs Specular Shimmer
2. Big Sky Cloud vs Specular Spatium
3. Big Sky Magneto vs Specular Echo
4. Big Sky Chorale vs Specular Voices
5. Big Sky Hall vs Specular Spatium (less intensive than in the first example)

I hope this video helps you to find out, which is you pedal.

I played everything on Oberheim OBXa stereo into the pedal and stereo out.

There are no additional effects or mastering used.

I had a little bit of a mishap the other day... i ordered a mooer shimverb on ebay, and it got lost in transit ... being really really bummed out about this i went to my local store to check out some other pedals, and to my surprise they had the entire strymon lineup in stock. I already have the timeline.. and have been gunning for the big sky for ever since i got it, still wanted to give this one a try in the store and fell immediately in love with the lush sound.

Also, a new synth in my setup is the Dreadbox erebus.. so why not hook them up and go full tilt ethereal ambient jam ? :)

so its ONLY, the erebus, passing through the jomox (which is in bypass mode).. stereo signal out from the strymon onto 2 track.. the strymon is set to reverb mode Room / Modulation, with no pre-delay starting off at decay 3 o'clock, mix on 12.30 high damp on full and low damp on 12.

At the end i crank up the decay to almost full tilt...
