New Loopy Pro 2 Demos & Artist Spotlight

video uploads by Loopy Pro

Playlist:

1. Loopy Pro 2: Polyphonic Clip Playback with MIDI
Explore one of Loopy Pro 2’s most powerful new features: polyphonic clip playback. This tutorial shows how to trigger audio clips using MIDI — either pitched, where each note plays a different pitch of the clip, or sliced, where each note plays a different part of the audio. You’ll learn how to set up MIDI routing to clips, configure playback modes, and fine-tune behavior with features like fade-out-based note decay. We’ll also cover how to use loops as polyphonic targets, letting them sustain while held, and how to add an intro section to act as a sample’s attack before the loop takes over.
2. Loopy Pro 2.0: MIDI Loops & Signal Flow Explained
Learn how to harness the power of MIDI loops in Loopy Pro 2.0. This tutorial walks you through connecting a MIDI controller — whether it’s an external keyboard or the new on-screen keyboard — to a MIDI loop for recording and looping MIDI performances. You’ll also learn how to route that loop to an AUv3 instrument or any other MIDI destination to bring your loops to life. Plus, we’ll take a look at the redesigned mixer and demystify the new signal flow system so you can take full control of your setup.
3. Loopy Pro 2: Organize Your Mixer with Collapsible Sections & Rows
Loopy Pro 2 introduces powerful new ways to keep your mixer tidy. In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to collapse entire sections — like Inputs, Outputs, or Groups — to hide them until you need them. You’ll also see how to collapse individual rows to save space and reduce visual clutter, making it easier to focus on what matters in the moment.

Loopy Pro Artist Spotlight #1: Dub FX

Discopolis 2.0/Kris Menace & Lifelike (Novation Circuit Tracks Beach Mix)

video upload by Guinan

"I'm travelling so I hope you enjoy some of the slightly different videos I'm posting. This weeks video is a reworking of a track I put out last month following a suggestion by @DerrynGrierson
I wasn't happy with audio/video on the original (see below) so this is a reworking of the same.

Kris Menace & Lifelike have released multiple versions of the track so I feel pretty justified in putting out another mix of the track! I thought however I had to come up with something new so this was re-programmed and then played live on the beach! The line out went straight into a Zoom LiveTrak L6 so everything you hear is just as it was played on the Circuit Tracks 'on the beach'.

It's harder than it looks playing live on a beach (the tide was coming in....). I missed the filter sweep in the track completely! Stay tuned to the end, if you can, to see what a beautiful place this was played at.

Till next time, stay tuned."

Discopolis/Kris Menace & Lifelike (Novation Circuit Tracks Version)
video upload by Guinan

"This week’s track is the 2005 cult club-classic, ‘Discopolis’ by Kris Menace (an alias of DJ Christoph Hoeffel) and Lifelike. Recreating this was suggested by subscriber @DerrynGrierson. Thanks for the excellent suggestion Derryn!

It’s very likely I’ve heard this but it hadn’t been something I’d really noticed. I absolutely LOVE it and it has been a pleasure listening to the (very) numerous mixes and remixes to get an idea as to how to recreate this onto the Novation Circuit Tracks.

It features a very prominent sample from the start of the Italo-disco song 'Another Life' by Kano. Incidentally this sample is also used elsewhere (e.g. by Nero) so you might recognise it. I was able to find and use the same sample and build the song around it.

Everything you hear was programmed and played on the Novation Circuit Tracks. No extra synths/effects were used in the playback and the stereo track has not been remastered or otherwise altered.

I’m trying out a different way of filming/recording these direct to camera so apologies if the video is a bit dark. Almost knocked over the mirrorball too!

I hope you enjoy this track and come back again for other future recreations. Thanks for watching."

Drone synth MIDI control

video upload by Ghost In Translation

"Upcoming firmware update 2.0.2 for Drone is bringing MIDI CC input via TRS and USB.

For this video I connected a UC33 MIDI DIN output to a TRS adapter to Drone's MIDI input on the back. I then demonstrate controlling all 6 settings from the controller as well as the module. Both can be used at the same time, they add up acting like offsets so there is no conflict between them.

OPL Studio + Korg NTS-3 + Phantasmal Force generative improvisation inspiration

video upload by Arman Bohn

"Phantasmal Force micro midi controller is available here:

https://distropolisgoods.com/

I haven’t posted in a little while … i’ve been working on the beta firmware for the Phantasmal Force for several months. Here is an improvisational demonstration of the new ARP button mode.

I’m triggering the OPL Studio with three different sequences sent from the Phantasmal Force. The OPL studio is multi timbral so it is capable of playing back different FM tones on each midi channel. It is an amazing device for those looking to explore 80s FM sounds within the context of a hypothetical OS developed to control all of the OPL chip parameters. Truly incredible.

https://www.cheerful.nl/index.html

The NTS-3 takes a bit of learning, but is slowly becoming a fave of mine for adding reverb, delays and interactive effects. Such a great deal for what it costs.

I’m hoping to release a version 2.0 of the Phantasmal Force firmware within the next couple weeks … maybe even sooner. With that, I intend to release a kit version for sale as well."

"OPL Studio is the ultimate OPL2 / OPL3 synthesizer! It gives you almost limitless control over what you can do with the OPL3 synthesizer chip.

Features of OPL Studio

OPL Studio has a long list of features. To name a bunch of them:

Integrated patch editor to edit predefined instruments and create your own

Load and save instrument banks from popular formats such as *.BNK, *.SB, *.O3, ect.

Patch linking to layer up to 4 instrument patches for even more complex sounds

Polyphonic sequence editor to create up to 32 drum and 32 melody sequences
Quad sequencer to live play up to four sequences

Composer module that lets you create complete songs from your sequences

Video Descriptions:

1. Depeche Mode Enjoy the Silence synth cover Clavia Nord Modular G1 Atari ST Steinberg Cubase

All drum and synth sounds produced simultaneously by the Nord Modular without any multi-tracking.

This is my attempt at creating a ‘one synth’ cover of Enjoy the Silence, using only 4 sound patches on my Clavia Nord Modular G1 (with DSP Expansion), sequenced using Steinberg Cubase 3.1 on my old Atari ST.

Just for fun, I thought it might be interesting to use Logic Pro, synchronised to Cubase on the Atari using MIDI Time Code, to playback the original DM vocals (on track 1) in sync with the audio coming from the Nord Modular. Tracks 2 and 3 are recording the audio coming from the Nord Modular, along with reverb from my Soundcraft mixer recording on track 4.

Playlist:-
0.06 Nord Modular + original DM vocals
4.28 Individual sounds and sequences
8.03 Nord Modular instrumental

Nord Modular Patches:-
Slot A = Drums (CPU = 89.3% Poly = 1)
Slot B = Bassline and Bells (CPU = 49.4% Poly = 3)
Slot C = Vox Chords, Phaser Strings and Vox Melody (CPU = 76% Poly = 7)
Slot D = Guitar, Filter Sweep Bass and Synth (CPU = 95.7% Poly = 4)

Nord Modular audio outputs:-
1+2 = Dry / No effects
3+4 = Hall reverb from my Soundcraft mixer

Live jam with the Polyend Tracker Mini

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.

I'm going to just say it: the Polyend Tracker Mini (or maybe Tracker+) is currently the best all-in-one groovebox going. Eight stereo sample tracks, eight voices of internal synths across three timbres, up to eight MIDI tracks, great onboard effects, battery powered, very portable, USB multitrack audio recording, and fantastic performance effects. This thing rules.

To celebrate the 2.0 software release, which brings the Mini and + to parity, minus the differences in hardware, I put together this piece. I'm very, very happy with the results. The Tracker is an extremely inspiring platform for me.

There are shortcomings to the Tracker platform, namely bugs and promised features that haven't been implemented yet; seriously, Polyend, you gotta get those performance effects for the Play+ synths if you're going to promise them to users, let alone the Tracker+ and Tracker Mini! But the bugs, while annoying if you don't know about them, are manageable once you do know about them, and I tend not to buy devices like the Mini for its potential firmware updates. When I bought the Mini, it was a stereo sampler, and now it's a stereo sampler with eight voices of internal synth polyphony, so Polyend is offering amazing updates. I just try not to think of what a thing is missing.

Anyway, thanks for listening.

Recorded to multitrack audio via USB (what a feature!), with a little treatment to the synths (as noted in the video), and with EQ/compression/limiting on the master.

OB-X8 - Firmware 2.0 - Binaural Mode & Poly Chain

video upload by Scott McAuley Sounds

"Patches will be available at https://www.orano.co.uk/shop or http://www.synthsounds.co.uk

So the ‪@Oberheim‬ team have let us all in for an unexpected and very exciting surprise! The newly released Firmware 2.0 has taken what was an incredible instrument to completely new levels!

Multiple Wave Shape Selection/Combinations - adding to the OB-X8's sonic capabilities!
An additional 4 Pole Bass Compensated resonant filter (which sounds amazing!)
New Doubles+ & Split+ Banks, which allow independent editing and saving of patches without the need to point them towards single sounds in the main banks!
Binaural Mode! - YES Binaural Mode!
MPE Compatable
Poly Chain for up to 4 units which would give the user 32 voices of pure OB goodness! and much more!

I invested in the OB-X8 desktop which now gives me 16 voices of incredible sound! - This video is really just to let you hear the Poly Chain & Binaural sound in action,

it's only my first day playing with this new firmware, but thought you would all love to hear how it actually sounds.

Video is completely dry, no effects, just a little bit of compression and limiting to catch any peaks.

Enjoy!

SM!"

Fissure 💔 (Hapax 2.0 // Perfourmer Mk2 + H9 + Pill // TR6S // LXR02 // JU06 + Deco v2)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"February 2024, back to the 2-Minute format! (well actually it was a 4:30 jam with a bridge, an outro with different chords etc. but had to justify a bit the name of the channel I think 😅)

This jam is built around a 10-step pattern from the Hapax sequencing the Perfourmer (through the H9 reverb and Pill ducking pedal, triggered by a GATE track from the Hapax). To make this 10-step pattern which drives the whole track sound a bit more complex, I made it play with 3 different voices of the Perfourmer (this is one of the main reasons I bought a Perfourmer a few years ago!). Hence each note is playing a voice with a different oscillator. So it's a 10-step sequence where the oscillators are being played in round robin mode each 3 notes. To make it even more spicy, I also used the Hapax's real-time RANDOMIZER MIDI effect which is transposing some notes randomly!

For the PERCUSSIVE parts, we are in a more classic mode with the main DRUMS being played by the TR-6S and the secondary DRUMS by the LXR-02 (both still sequenced by the Hapax).

And the BASS, is being played by the JU-06A through the DECO v2 pedal."

Synthetic Sound Labs Announces Soleil String Synth Pod & Modulation Orgy 2.0

Details on each follow. Check with the dealers on the right for availability.

TABLE-TOP MIDI STRING SYNTH POD ANNOUNCED

Inspired by the early vintage synths of the ‘70s such as the Elka Rhapsody and ARP Solina, the Soleil POD is a tiny low-cost Lo-Fi MIDI String Synth table-top box.

Capable of playing 4 paraphonic notes with 2 oscillator ranks per note. Waveforms are continuously variable from thick sawtooth thru variable pulse widths for more reedy sounds. The second rank is detunable for lush pads and honky-tonk riffs.

The Soleil contains built-in modulation / vibrato LFO, the depth of which can be controlled by MIDI. Attack and release envelope times are individually adjustable and share a single VCA making this a “paraphonic” instrument. A gate output jack allows convenient triggering of external effects and synth equipment, and its state is displayed by an LED.

MIDI is input via a 3.5mm TRS Type “A” jack, and responds to keyboard running status as well as pitch bend and modulation. An LED MIDI displays MIDI activity.

MIDI channel defaults to channel 1 but can be easily reset to other channels using a unique sequence from your controller keyboard at power-up, which is retained in non- volatile memory.

A fine tune control allows accurate tuning to other instruments, and an output volume control is provided. MIDI, Gate Out and Audio Out are standard 3.5mm (1/8”) jacks.

Power is supplied from a user provided +8 to +18 VDC 2.1mm coaxial jack, center positive power source, and draws extremely low current.

Quality, solder masked, fiberglass-epoxy printed circuit boards and meticulous hand- crafted assembly assure years of trouble-free service.

Synthetic Sound Labs has been in the analog synthesizer business since 1973. The Soleil Pod is the newest in SSL’s continuing line of outstanding analog synthesizer devices.

Pricing is $179.95 US and is available off-the-shelf from SSL and Distributors Worldwide.

UPDATED LFO MODULE ANNOUNCED

Just over 10 years after the release of its popular original 2260 Modulation Orgy LFO, Synthetic Sound Labs have recently released an updated and improved version.

The new 2261 Modulation Orgy has completely reimagined firmware that includes improvements such as waveform morphing and random wave slew. The new module width is now only 8 HP (half the width of its 16 HP predecessor) and is available with either black or silver faced panels.

DETAILS

The 2261 Modulation Orgy is a unique Low Frequency Oscillator (LFO) that offers unmatched modulation flexibility. It features both manual and external voltage control over LFO Tempo (speed), tempo Multiplier, Waveform and Waveform Distortion.

Eight Waveforms are produced, including Sawtooth, Ramp, Rectangle, Triangle, Sine, Sweep, Lumps and Random with morphing between adjacent waves. Waveforms may be further modified using the Wave Distort controls.

A front panel button or external Sync input allow synchronization to precise multiples of the musical beat permitting timed vibratos, tremolos, and clocking of external sequencers and sample & hold type devices. Multiple 2261s may also be cascaded to provide complex polyrhythmic modulation patterns, which is aided by use of the Clock output jack. The Clock output also serves as a powerful input clock multiplier.

In conjunction with the Multiplier controls, LFO Tempo (frequency) is adjustable from approximately 0.1Hz to about 50Hz in six overlapping tempo ranges.

The external Level CV input responds linearly and is normalled internally to +5V so that with no input, the 2261 outputs are at maximum. This convenient input can frequently save a separate VCA when doing voltage-controlled modulation depth.

A panel LED / push button shows the LFO output rate. Knobs are conveniently placed and top quality 1/8” jacks permit smooth, effortless patching.

Quality, solder masked, fiberglass-epoxy printed circuit boards and meticulous hand- crafted assembly assure years of trouble-free service.

Synthetic Sound Labs has been in the analog synthesizer business since 1973. The 2261 is the newest in SSL’s continuing line of outstanding analog synthesizer modules.

Pricing is $250 US and is available off-the-shelf from SSL and Distributors Worldwide. Silver panel – Model 2261S. Black panel – Model 2261B
