Reminder: Minimoog Prototype Exhibit, Erik Norlander Keyboard Sale Price Drop, Mini Minimoogs & More

via The Bob Moog Foundation

Minimoog Prototype Exhibit At the Moogseum This Weekend Only!

The anticipation is almost over! We are thrilled to be hosting the Minimoog Prototype Exhibit at the Moogseum, this weekend only, in partnership with the Museum of Music Technology (MMT). The exhibit will feature four ultra rare Minimoog prototypes from 1969, 1970, and 1971, as well as a host of related artifacts from the Bob Moog Foundation Archives.

We are honored to have JoE Silva, author of The Minimoog Book: The Synthesizer That Changed Music Forever: Sounds, Stories, and Technology join us throughout the weekend of the exhibit. He'll be on hand to delve into the history of the Minimoog with exhibit attendees and sign books in the Moogseum store.

We're excited to share a new addition to the exhibit. MMT will be bringing Minimoog serial number 1016 (the sixteenth Minimoog ever produced out of 12,269 units), which was purchased in 1971 by none other than David VanKoevering, the marketing genius behind the early Minimoog sales. David's Minimoog will be available for exhibit attendees to play and explore. Come get you hands on this incredible piece of synthesizer history!

Finally, be sure to take advantage of the morning tours with our executive director, Michelle Moog-Koussa. Michelle will be delving into Minimoog history as it is conveyed through the main gallery of the Moogseum. She doesn't give tours often, so take advantage of this opportunity. The tours are available for a small fee for any exhibit attendee.

Jordan Rudess Releases GeoShred Studio

video upload by GeoShred

Press release follows:

Wizdom Music Announces the Release of GeoShred 7 Including GeoShred Studio For Mac Desktop Machines

GeoShred is a new kind of musical instrument, offering fluid expressiveness using a performance surface with "Almost Magic" pitch rounding. This unique performance interface combined with physics-based models of effects and musical instruments, is a powerful tool for musicians. Originally designed for iOS/iPadOS devices, GeoShred is now available as an AUv3 plug-in for desktop DAWs.

"GeoShred has always been about pushing the boundaries of musical expression, and with the introduction of GeoShred Studio as an AUv3 plug-in for macOS, we’re bringing that vision to a whole new audience." - Jordan Rudess President Wizdom Music.

Performers can establish a MIDI/MPE connection between GeoShred on an iOS/iPadOS device and GeoShred Studio on the Mac using GeoShredConnect. This makes it possible to use GeoShred's expressive multi-dimensional control for desktop production workflows. Further, iCloud integration ensures that preset edits are synchronized between the iOS/iPadOS and macOS versions of GeoShred.

Equipped with a built-in guitar physical model and 22 modeled effects, GeoShred Studio offers an impressive array of sonic possibilities. And for those looking to expand their musical palette, an additional 33 physically modeled instruments from around the globe are available as in-app purchases (IAPs). These instruments range from guitars and bowed strings to woodwinds, brass, and traditional Indian and Chinese instruments.

GeoShred Studio is best performed expressively using GeoShred's isomorphic keyboard. For users who don’t own the GeoShred for iOS/iPadOS, the free GeoShred Control MPE controller (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/geoshred-control/id1336247116) is available for use with GeoShred Studio. GeoShred Studio is also compatible with MPE controllers, conventional MIDI controllers, and even breath controllers, offering a wide range of performance options.

GeoShred Studio is free to download, but core functionality requires the purchase of GeoShred Studio Essentials, which includes distinct instruments separate from those in the iOS/iPadOS app, and iOS/iPadOS purchases do not transfer.

Works with MacOS Catalina or greater.

GeoShred, unleash your musical potential!

In celebration of the GeoShred 7 release, we are offering a 25% discount on all iOS/iPadOS and MacOS products, valid until October 10, 2024. Pricing table at moforte.com/pricing

ContinuuCon Electronic Music Conference Scheduled for Portugal

Press release follows:

ContinuuCon 2023, the fifth international Haken Continuum Conference, is slated for May 17–19 in Palmela, Portugal. This year’s focus will be on every electronic musical instrument that features the Continuum’s internal sound engine, the EaganMatrix. This includes the new Osmose synthesizer from French manufacturer Expressive E, as well as the Continuum Fingerboard, ContinuuMini, and EaganMatrix Module for Eurorack from Haken Audio. As in previous years, the conference extends opportunities for musicians, sound designers, software developers, and music enthusiasts to explore these uniquely expressive instruments through presentations, performances, and hands-on experience.

ContinuuCon 2023 will begin with an evening reception on May 17, just four days after Superbooth ends in Berlin. Over the next two days, Continuum and Osmose experts and master musicians will present lectures and demos at the Palmela Public Library. For tickets, information, and videos of past events, visit the website continuucon.com.

Over decades of collaboration, University of Illinois professor Dr. Lippold Haken and Canadian film and TV composer Edmund Eagan developed the EaganMatrix and the Continuum family of instruments. Both men will be on hand throughout the event, along with their counterparts from Expressive E and other authorities, to share their technical knowledge and musical expertise.

Previous Continuum conferences have been held at IRCAM in Paris and in Asheville, North Carolina. Haken Continuum players include Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi, Brazilian electro-acoustic musician Amon Tobin, film composer A.R. Rahman, Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess, and The Who’s Pete Townshend, who said, “I absolutely adore it. The Continuum is already inspiring me to new ideas.”

About Haken Audio’s Instruments
The Continuum Fingerboard is a polyphonic electronic instrument that offers continuous multidimensional performance control by responding to each finger independently. The ContinuuMini is a smaller, more affordable duotactic model based on the same technology. Inside is the EaganMatrix, a user-programmable digital modular synthesizer taking full advantage of the supple playing surface’s myriad performance possibilities.

About Palmela, Portugal
About 25 miles from Lisbon, the city of Palmela features art, nature, heritage, gastronomy, award-winning wines, arts and crafts, and nearby, the beautiful beaches of the Arrábida, making it an excellent location for ContinuuCon. With the support of the Palmela City Council, Passos e Compassos is pleased to host ContinuuCon 2023.

Jordan Rudess plays the KW-8000 & Sorcerer Modern Virtual Synthesizers from Syntronik 2

video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the KW-8000. The KW8000 delivers the late ‘80s sound of the digital-analog hybrid Korg DW-8000. The DW-8000 used digital oscillators with short samples of 16 different waveforms, then into an analog low-pass filter. The result is a remarkably warm sounding instrument whose timbres often sound more analog than digital."

Jordan Rudess plays the Sorcerer modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Sorcerer. The Sorcerer offers the distinctive timbres of the legendary Moog source, two fat analog oscillators through the legendary Moog 24 dB per octave transistor ladder filter. In many ways, the Source was a programmable Minimoog capable of generating massive basses and superior leads."

Jordan Rudess plays the Megawave, Obie One, CATO, and Triptych from Syntronik 2

Jordan Rudess plays the Megawave modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2
video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Megawave. The Megawatt features the powerful wavetable synth sounds of the original Waldorf Microwave, a classic digital/analog hybrid. The Microwave was the heir to the PPG Wave legacy with its sweepable digital wavetables and Curtis chip analog filter. The unit we recorded is the most coveted Rev A version."

And a few more:

Jordan Rudess plays the Obie One modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Obie One. The Obie One is our recreation of the innovative Oberheim OB-1, excellent at creating classic and fat sounding bass, pad and lead sounds. The new 4-pole slope in our O-Type state variable filter model in Syntronik 2 now captures the distinct difference between the 2- and 4-pole filter sounds of this excellent hardware synth."

Jordan Rudess plays the CATO modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the CATO. The CATO captures the distinctive analog sounds of the Octave Cat SRM and its SSM filter. The pure-analog tonality of this synth is huge, and its modulation capabilities allow for truly unique and stylized timbres. Able to create gigantic Moog-style basses, the CAT can also go in its own sonic direction with its clever oscillator sync implementation."

Jordan Rudess plays the Triptych modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Triptych. The Triptych is based on the warm sounds of the classic Korg Trident with its separate synth, string and brass sections. The Trident was basically a 2-oscillator Korg Polysix combined with a convincing string machine with dedicated ensemble chorus and a paraphonic brass synth. It is a beast of a synth capable of a wide range of classic analog synth and stringer sounds."

Jordan Rudess plays the PRO-VS modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the PRO-VS. The Pro-VS recreates the sound of vector synthesis from the Sequential Circuits Prophet VS with its 4 digital oscillators through an analog filter. A cousin of wavetable synthesis, vector synthesis allows the mixing of 4 oscillators with X-Y controls for extreme animation and liveliness.

Syntronik 2 sets the new standard in modern virtual synthesizers. IK’s advanced sampling techniques, combined with a hybrid sample and modeling synthesis engine, power a comprehensive collection of rare and sought-after synths with stunning sonic accuracy and the deepest editing.

This is a massive update to the previous release, adding 11 new synths, exciting new, advanced, and much-requested functionality, and a huge number of all-new presets for the 22 original synths taking advantage of all these new features."

Jordan Rudess plays the Syner-V modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

video upload by

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the Syner-V. The Syner-V is based on the Digital Keyboards Synergy ii+ with its wide range of unique soundscapes and glassy, metallic tones. Although it did not officially use the term 'FM' due to Yamaha’s trademark, the Synergy did employ the same basic technology of the GS and DX series as well as the Synclavier FM synthesis."

Jordan Rudess plays the OSC-V modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the OSC-V. The OSC-V is based on the Classic analog-filtered digital monosynth sounds of the Oxford Synthesiser Company OSCar, a British classic. Sometimes called the 'British Minimoog,' the OSCar can sound deceptively analog and ultra-fat despite its digital oscillators."

Jordan Rudess plays the M-12 modern virtual synthesizer from Syntronik 2

video upload by ikmultimedia

"Watch Jordan Rudess plays one of the classic synths of Syntronik 2 - the M-12. The M-12 brings the incredible sounds of the monstrous Oberheim Matrix-12 capturing its many filter modes and modulation matrix. The Matrix-12 was a technological marvel for its time, and its innovative modulation matrix gave it ultra-flexible modular synth-like routings combined with patch programmability. We expanded the modes and slopes of our C-Type modeled filter especially for this synth in Syntronik 2."
