"Trusty, easy-to-use, chock-full-of analog goodness. miniSynth is the first and the original synthesizer for the iPhone/iPod Touch platform. Its persistence in satisfying tonebuds is attested by its undying popularity. Nominated for the 2008 Best App Ever awards, miniSynth combines features that professional sound-making machines of the golden age of analog synths with an elegant simplicity that makes it suited for all playing situations, whether ripping out at a gig or noodling on a commuter bus. Update: the official press release:

"Yonac Software Releases miniSynth PRO, Brand New Synthesizer for iPad With a new, cutting edge sound engine, Yonac has created a fully featured synthesizer available for the opening of the iPad iTunes Store.

(New York, NY – April 1, 2010) Yonac Software is pleased to announce the release of the
miniSynth PRO for the iPad. Conceived and designed by the same team behind the original synth and the theremin for the iPhone OS, miniSynth PRO is a completely new, cutting-edge sound engine crafted especially, and deployed only, for the iPad platform.

miniSynth PRO is a fully-featured, professional-grade virtual analog synthesizer. It incorporates an improved version of the time proven zero latency "push-pull" Yonac keyboard algorithm that powers their existing synthesizers, and features a highly customized version of their original analog-clone "Vincent" tone shaping filter. More importantly, it marks the debut of the brand new YASSE (pronounced "Yah-See") modular sound sequencing and synthesis engine, developed in Yonac labs over the last three years.

As a step up on its predecessors, miniSynth PRO is designed as an FM / Subtractive hybrid synth. Among other innovations, it features custom “Vari-wave” dynamic waveform selection algorithm, individually parameterized voice processing, and carefully selected waveforms driving its dual interactive oscillators and its five-destination LFO.

miniSynth PRO offers many other features to render music making easier. They include a
dedicated arpeggiator module, dual individually adjustable keyboards, user control matrix, and 82 presets designed by actual musicians. Users are able to record their own performances, as well as save and recall any number of their own presets in the brand-new YPAT patch design format.

miniSynth PRO will be available at the opening of the iPad iTunes Store for $9.99.

Yonac Software was founded in New York City in 2008. The company mainly focuses on the
development of music and sound related software. Yonac’s iPhone applications include
miniSynth, the first iPhone synthesizer, TuneORama, an easy-to-use guitar tuner, and
Thereminator, a touch screen theremin.

YouTube via bubagoo — March 31, 2010 — For more info go here:
http://casperelectronics.com/finished...

This video is of the BenjolinLightSynth. I've been working on this piece for a few weeks. I just added a crazy modded sampler/echo unit. It's the BOSS RSD-10. I'm triggering echoes from the synth circuit and controling the pitch of the echo with oscillators from the synth. It's a crazy combination

This piece is built around the 2 Benjolin circuits, which is a complex, analog sound generator designed by engineer/artist/super star Rob Hordijk. I've made a bunch of modifications and added a 3 channel light globe.
The globe has three high intensity LED lights in it, RED, GREEN and BLUE.
I'm able to grab different signals from the circuit (not JUST the audio signal) and send them to the lights, so each color is fading and strobing in a different pattern.
The result is complex color mixing madness.

No Parking on the Dance Floor

Anyone know what vocoder was used? BTW, there's been horrible distortion in VoiceEncoder's videos lately. Not sure what's up with that. Posting this one as I'm curious what was used and of course, the kittens...

Update via Voice in the comments: "The vocoder used is the same as mine...the Roland SVC-350 Vocoder (you can see it in three videos I posted). As for the distortion it's me seeing how high-pitched I can make my vocoder sound. It would go higher if the pitch-bend on my Korg Poly-800 was working. Or it's that either or both my synth and vocoder need to be re-calibrated after more than twenty-five years without ever having a check-up. Yes I noticed after I record that it sounds out-of-tune. I have no idea if it's the Korg, the Roland, or both. Also my mic probably needs a checking also.

I need to read "How to Wreck a Nice Beach"!!!"

Introducing the Moog MF-401 Auto De-tune

"Moog Puts Realism Back into Vocal Performance

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (April 1, 2010) – Do the vocals on your favorite song sound like a vocoded chipmunk? Yes? Did you use extreme auto-tune settings in the sensitive ballad you wrote for your girlfriend, who then dumped you because, as Jay Z said, "Auto-tune is Dead". Never fear, you can now recapture the emotive intensity of your original vocal performance complete with the off-kilter, yet somewhat charming intonation for which you are known.

Introducing Moog Music's MF-401 Auto De-tune, featuring Authentic Vocal Imperfection(tm) technology, even a T-Pain vocal can be restored to its complete original character, scrubbing the pitch correction and leaving the untreated vocal in all its wavering sharp or flat glory. Results may vary, and Moog Music in no way bears responsibility for discomfort or irritation caused by the use of the MF-401.

The MF-401 can be used to treat your vocals to be off-key in a variety of ways.

Presets include:

* Drunk as a Sailor
* Seattle sensitive alternative warble
* Where did all the green room beer go?
* Original Star Trek cast member attempts to make pop music
* My vocal monitor is blown, so Soundman, please mix me REALLY low
* Mrs. Miller
* Too punk rock to turn down your !#$%&*!! stage volume
* Cat in an alley under a full moon
* Tone Def
* Florence Foster Jenkins

Each preset can be adjusted to taste or lack thereof with the Warble rate, Deviation range, Emotive Overload, and Caterwaul rotary controls, allowing a virtually infinite variety and depth of vocal expression and variation.

It's time to take back the airwaves. Too long have our ears been fooled by processed, homogenized, artificially-in-tune vocals. It's time to bring back the REAL sound of performers' voices with Moog's MF-401 Auto De-Tune!

iPad (and Smule)

Three music apps in this video presented by Smule co-founder Dr. Ge Wang.

Their upcoming Magic Piano [see this post], and Ocarina [albeit the iPhone version].

Realize this is behind doors at an Apple store for a private screening for ABC news about the iPad in general, and the one showing the demos is the creator of probably the most popular music (synth based) apps for the iPhone. Smule sent in videos to post here on MATRIXSYNTH before their fist apps took off.

Here's one for Ocarina from Dec 2008 and one for Sonic Vox from Oct of 08. It's pretty cool seeing them get the spotlight here.

The first app, or rather book I plan to pick up? It's not a synth, it's this. Be sure to see Boing Boing's review on the iPad here and the 3:47 mark in the video below [the Marvel comics app will probably be second - see 3:37 below - I've always wanted to re-read X-Man 94 on]. Also be sure to see this post and poll when the iPad was first announced. It's an interesting look back and it will just get more interesting over time.

de la Mancha loophole

"loophole is a midi-triggered loop sampler, which allows you play sections of up to 4 different loops using midi notes to control which section of which loop plays. This can be a great way to mash up 4 different loop styles or add quick variations on 4 similar loops. As well as having full control of which sections to play, you can also trigger random sections too (well this is a de la Mancha plugin!)

You can load any 4 loops and sync them to host tempo, then using midi notes you can play the loops, switching between loops, playing several loops and defining which sections play. You also get a visual display of the loops, the play position and which sections are being played. The multi-out version lets you apply further effects processing to each loop separately. Loophole also has a volume envelope per loop to declick or fade in/out

features

- Loop sampler, using midi notes to trigger sections of each loop, either specifically or randomly
- 171 original drum loops in 24bit Wav format, across 19 different kits covering acoustic and electronic styles (Rock, Jazz, Breakbeat, DnB, Hip Hop, Dubstep, Lofi, Glitch, 8 bit, House, Trance and more)
- Loads any 16, 24 and 32 bit WAV in mono or stereo
- Very low CPU (<1% on 2.2GHZ dual core CPU)
- Tempo-sync each loop by setting length in beats, allowing stretching or different lengths if desired
- Play sections of each loop, each triggered by a different midi note
- Play random sections using one midi note
- Graphical representation of loops, play position and triggered sections
- Normalise and mono options per loop
- Envelope per loop to fade in/out or declick
- Volume control and mute per loop
- Stereo out and Multi-out versions
- 21 presets covering different styles and sounds
- 12 midi files showing examples of basic and advanced triggering"

Oberheim FVS SEM Four Voice Vintage Analog Synth

via this auction

"Oberheim FVS Four Voice System SEM, a four voice analog synth. This is the VERY RARE BLACK FACE SEMs, it is also the original vintage SEMs, not the reissue. It's fully functional and in great shape. Tuned up and serviced last October. There is no keyboard, it's racked mounted, but it's nicely modularized with a patching interface and is much more versatile than a regular FVS with keyboard. You have much better control of the voices and voice assignment, and those membrane keyboards stink anyways. Plus it's not huge and more portable. This is a one of a kind synth, you won't ever see another one like this! Vintage SEMs sound amazing! Last and only time I saw black face SEMs for sale they went for $1500 each.

Included in this auction is a Roland MPU-101 with connector cable. It has four individual midi-CV channels, plus several other outputs, so the routing is quite flexible. You can run it as a four SEM stacked mono, as four separate one voice mono, two 2 voices, mix and match, and use the volume, aftertouch and bend for things like LFO, VCA or filter modulation, etc...

Having a four voice SEM with 8 oscillators mono stacked is incredible. It doesn't get much better than this. Running four separate sequencers through each SEM also sounds incredible, especially when you tweak or modulate the voices/filters with additional sequence parameters. The MPU-101 goes anywhere form $300-$500. The MPU-101 is in great shape and fully functional. If for some reason you don't want the MPU-101, I can reduce the final price by $300.

Comes with Oberheim FVS, MPU-101, 4 voice connector cable and the gray power cable."
