This video is of the BenjolinLightSynth. I've been working on this piece for a few weeks. I just added a crazy modded sampler/echo unit. It's the BOSS RSD-10. I'm triggering echoes from the synth circuit and controling the pitch of the echo with oscillators from the synth. It's a crazy combination
This piece is built around the 2 Benjolin circuits, which is a complex, analog sound generator designed by engineer/artist/super star Rob Hordijk. I've made a bunch of modifications and added a 3 channel light globe.
The globe has three high intensity LED lights in it, RED, GREEN and BLUE.
I'm able to grab different signals from the circuit (not JUST the audio signal) and send them to the lights, so each color is fading and strobing in a different pattern.
The result is complex color mixing madness.

Anyone know what vocoder was used? BTW, there's been horrible distortion in VoiceEncoder's videos lately. Not sure what's up with that. Posting this one as I'm curious what was used and of course, the kittens...
Update via Voice in the comments: "The vocoder used is the same as mine...the Roland SVC-350 Vocoder (you can see it in three videos I posted). As for the distortion it's me seeing how high-pitched I can make my vocoder sound. It would go higher if the pitch-bend on my Korg Poly-800 was working. Or it's that either or both my synth and vocoder need to be re-calibrated after more than twenty-five years without ever having a check-up. Yes I noticed after I record that it sounds out-of-tune. I have no idea if it's the Korg, the Roland, or both. Also my mic probably needs a checking also.

Realize this is behind doors at an Apple store for a private screening for ABC news about the iPad in general, and the one showing the demos is the creator of probably the most popular music (synth based) apps for the iPhone. "Oberheim FVS Four Voice System SEM, a four voice analog synth. This is the VERY RARE BLACK FACE SEMs, it is also the original vintage SEMs, not the reissue. It's fully functional and in great shape. Tuned up and serviced last October. There is no keyboard, it's racked mounted, but it's nicely modularized with a patching interface and is much more versatile than a regular FVS with keyboard. You have much better control of the voices and voice assignment, and those membrane keyboards stink anyways. Plus it's not huge and more portable. This is a one of a kind synth, you won't ever see another one like this! Vintage SEMs sound amazing! Last and only time I saw black face SEMs for sale they went for $1500 each.
Included in this auction is a Roland MPU-101 with connector cable. It has four individual midi-CV channels, plus several other outputs, so the routing is quite flexible. You can run it as a four SEM stacked mono, as four separate one voice mono, two 2 voices, mix and match, and use the volume, aftertouch and bend for things like LFO, VCA or filter modulation, etc...Having a four voice SEM with 8 oscillators mono stacked is incredible. It doesn't get much better than this. Running four separate sequencers through each SEM also sounds incredible, especially when you tweak or modulate the voices/filters with additional sequence parameters. The MPU-101 goes anywhere form $300-$500. The MPU-101 is in great shape and fully functional. If for some reason you don't want the MPU-101, I can reduce the final price by $300.
