Arturia Drumbrute Sessions by kAbLe HeAd

Published on Dec 11, 2016 kAbLe HeAd

Individual outs for each drum part allow you to use different effects for each drum part. Something to consider when picking up a new drum machine.

Playlist:

1. Arturia Drumbrute + 11 Effect Pedals - Session 1

"This session took quite some time to set up. Each individual output of the Drumbrute (except the metronome) is connected to a different effect pedal. Lots of cables and power supplies were involved.

I had to dig up my old crackling Behringer mixer which is not optimal for this task because half of the inputs are stereo channels. So i had to mono the whole mix in the recording device because otherwise half of the instruments would be panned hard left or right. I wish i had a mixer with more channels but for now this had to do the job.

There is another reverb pedal under the table which is connected to the aux send of the mixer.

Pedals used:
Kick 1 - WMD Geiger Counter
Kick 2 - Electro-Harmonix Black Finger
Snare - Boss CS-3
Clap - Digitech Supernatural
Hihats - Electro-Harmonix Neo Mistress
Rim - Boss DD-7
Hi Tom - Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail
Lo Tom - Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy
Cymbal - Boss AW-3
Maracas - Mid-Fi Electronics Pitch Pirate
Zap - Red Panda Particle
Aux send - Hardwire RV-7"

"Electro-Harmonix, a pioneer since 1968 in the field of sound effects pedals for musicians, has produced an app which is a faithful digital re-creation of their circa 1980 analog cult-classic, The MINI-SYNTHESIZER.

Available for iPad and iPhone (IOS version 8.0 or later), the EHX MINI-SYNTHESIZER accurately delivers all the vintage synth sounds of the original plus modern updates.

EHX President and Founder, Mike Matthews stated: “Fans of vintage synths will appreciate the apps ability to recreate the original’s warm analog sounds and deep funky bass, but because it’s so affordable ($2.99 for phone, $4.99 for tablet) and user-friendly, parents, educators and non-musicians will love it, too.”

The MINI-SYNTHESIZER app comes with 22 presets and the ability to store an almost unlimited number of user presets programs.

Intuitive, flexible and powerful control are provided by the MINI-SYNTHESIZER’s 12 sliders and nine switches. Here’s a breakdown of the user interface:

OSC Section
- PITCH slider lets the player raise or lower the pitch of the note by +/- 1 octave
- SUB-OCTAVE slider introduces a note one octave below what’s being played for extra bottom
- OCTAVE UP switch causes the note being played to jump up one octave.
- TUNE knob lets the player tune the MINI-SYNTHESIZER to other instruments and sound sources over a +/- 50 cents range.

FILTERS Section
- PHASE RATE slider adjusts the speed of the phase shifter
- FILTER START sets the start frequency of the filter sweep
- FILTER STOP sets the stop frequency of the filter sweep
- SWEEP RATE controls the speed of the filter sweep
- PHASE switch turns the effect on/off
- 2X FILTER switch changes how the audio passes through the filters (either in parallel or in series)
- Q switch sets the amount of resonance on the filter sweep
- RETRIGGER switch turns the filter retrigger on/off

DELAY Section
- TIME slider adjusts the delay time up to two seconds
- FEEDBACK controls the number of echo repeats
- BLEND adjusts the mix of the original signal and the echo repeats
- DELAY switch turns the effect on/off

REVERB Section
- AMOUNT slider adjusts the reverb effect level
- BLEND slider controls the mix of the wet and dry signals
- REVERB switch turns reverb on/off
- REVERB>DELAY switch lets the user place either Delay or Reverb first in the effects chain for a variety of cool sound effects.

MISCELLANEOUS CONTROLS
- VOL (Volume) slider adjusts the MINI-SYNTHESIZER’s overall sound output level
- POLY/MONO switch toggles between polyphonic (four notes can be played simultaneously) or monophonic (only one note can be played at a time) modes
- PRESETS pop-down menu displays the presets available and allows the user to instantly select one
- HORIZONTAL slider lets the player adjust the keyboards sounding range over an expansive eight-octave range.
- RIBBON Interface lets the player perform portamento (glide up or down to pitch), vibrato and other expressive playing.

The easy-to-use Electro-Harmonix MINI-SYNTHESIZER App is loaded with great sounds and features and is sure to appeal to serious musicians and non-musicians alike."

A Musical Analysis of Oxygene 2

Playlist:

♪♫ ♯♩♪♫♬ ► A musical analysis of Oxygene 2 - JM Jarre - Part 0/4 : Rythmics
Published on Nov 25, 2010 tlnet37

"Here I will show you that you can break that song down into its instrument tracks , and perform an acoustic analysis of each and every sound.

I will show you that it is possible to reproduce that with a cheap minimal equipment, just by ear and instinct, with no scores, no MIDI file, no computer. All is hand played except for rythmics part ... this is real music recorded with my "old school" method !

In this first part, I try to reproduce the rythm played in the original JMJ's Oxygene, with the Korg MiniPops 7 ; here, I used a standalone free application called Rythmus by ElektroStudio. In that software, you can adjust the volume of each sounds, the pan, the tune, the volume and the global tempo ; 2 presets are used simultaneously : Beguin and Slow Rock for Oxygene 2.

The next part I will show you how to make all noises (ocean, wind, storm, randomized short sequences) with Roland SH-101, Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy (tape delay), Small Stone Phase Shifter (phaser)."

"How to make a soft version of Oxygene 2 with minimal equipment : only 2 synths !
All is hand and by ear played .This is a very "light" cover ! I recorded 10 audio tracks with Presonus Studio One, but without automation and I have to add 2 tracks for noises with the Roland SH-101.
I only use Rythmus (by ElektroStudio), Alesis Fusion 8 HD, Roland SH-101, Electro-Harmonix Small Stone (Phaser) and Memory Boy (Tape Delay).
I'm beginner, and not a musician, so ... sorry for bad hand playing and tempo not respected sometimes !

Patch notes (not complete):
Mutable Instruments Braids in WTX4 mode goes through the 4ms SMR which is CV controlled by several envelopes (Intellijel Quadra and Make Noise Maths and Function) and a MusicThing Turing-Machine sequence . Both outs of the SMR go into Mutable Instruments Clouds in granular mode.

Evaton Technologies RF Nomad goes through a Make Noise Optomix which is plucked by a gate from Maths for some noisy percussion. Some additional percussion by Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteratis through a Doepfer A-124 Wasp Filter.

A rain sample played on one MusicThing Radio Music goes through the Pittsburgh Modular Filter and via Doepfer A-138d through the Electro-Harmonix POG2 and then through the Make Noise Erbe-Verb.

The second Radio Music provides some sampled chords in the second part of the recording.

Master clock and lots of triggers by Tiptop Circadian Rhythms; even more triggers by ALM Pamela’s Workout in Euclidean Mode. China’s First Post-Revolution Concert

The China Concerts (Part 8 of 9) - Jean Michel Jarre

YouTube via 9thenazeing.
China’s First Post-Revolution Concert was a synth concert.
1981 with Jean Michel Jarre and featuring the Electro Harmonix Mini Synthesizer.
You can see Jean Michel Jarre and the Electro Harmonix Mini Synthesizer at 8:01. Some general synth spotting as well. Via EHX.com, where you'll find a great image of Electro-Harmonix founder Mike Matthew showing the Mini Synthesizer in Russia two years earlier. These are fascinating views of history and how music bridged and you could say broke through cultures. You can read more about the Russian trip here.

Via EHX.com:
"Jarre breaks the barrier and steps out into the audience with his Electro-Harmonix Mini Synthesizer, using it as a literal and figurative bridge between East and West"

video description:
"Peking: October 21st and 22nd, 1981 & Shangai: October 26th, 27th and 28th, 1981.

... After two years of negotiations, the Government of the People's Republic of China agreed for the first time to officially invite a western contemporary musician to give a series of concerts in Peking and Shangai.

... On October 12th, a team of sixty musicians and technicians left Paris for Peking with 15 tons of stage gear in the plane's hold. A gigantic stage installation, one of the most sophisticated concert happenings yet seen, and the technical, diplomatic and human accomplishment of five triumphant concerts fired the Chinese public with enthusiasm.

... The film of the China Concerts retraces this unique adventure, and, with Jarre's music, illustrates post-Mao China: its sufferings, its beauty, its desire for modernity, its aspiration for liberty ... images captured in 1981, at a historical moment when it seemed China was opening itself to the outside world...

... In 9 parts. :-(" You can find the other parts here.

Electro Harmonix Super Space Drum and Vintage Memory Man with DIY Patchable Synthesizer

Published on Mar 13, 2017 Perfect Circuit Audio

"The drone sound is made with a two oscillator Voice of Saturn Synth Run through a resonating bandpass filter, with another resonating bandpass mixed in as a tone source. This drone goes through the vintage Electro Harmonix Memory Man in chorus mode. The bass sound is two low tech 555 square wave oscillators mixed into a Q&D low pass VCF. Electro Harmonix Super Space Drum provides the kick drum and everything is sequenced by the Korg SQ-1.

The Super Space Drum is simultaneously the weirdest and coolest pedal that you never realized that you wanted. A modern reissue of the 1979 Electro Harmonix classic, the Super Space Drum is ready to act as a crazy sound effect, part of your analog drum machine setup, or as an envelope/VCA for external audio.
