Ableton Live Instrument Pack PolyMono multisampled instruments from the Analog MonoPoly synthesizer

video upload by Expanding Sound

"Get the pack here
http://www.expandingsound.com
(This pack is compatible with Ableton 10 standard and above.)
The Expanding Sound PolyMono pack is built using the MonoPoly synthesizer.... clever name, right? Something that was instantly noticeable to me was the larger than life quality some patches achieve here in Ableton. Since you are using four oscillators in unison mode, sampled instruments can use more voices, and have the ability to sound huge. Each instrument is a polysynth, so you're hearing up to 40 Oscillators at once! Giant atmosphere pads and strong present leads are available, as well as bass presets that really cut into a mix. This pack contains 22 multi sampled presets using over 100 samples. I hope you enjoy! I feel like some of these sounds are going to find their way into my compositions very soon."

Minilogue XD Analog Hybrid synth Ableton Megapack

Published on May 18, 2019 Expanding Sound

"Thanks for checking out our Minilogue XD Megapack! The original Minilogue was a jumping off point of sorts for Expanding Sound. I got it before its official release and shared a video of some sounds. From there we just kept going, making Ableton Packs and videos of jams and gear. When I heard about an upgraded model, I had to pick it up. The new effect section is really nice. The addition of digital synthesis into the analog unit really makes this synth have such character of its own. I wanted to make the pack sound different than my other releases to accentuate its character. In this Megapack you'll find huge soundscapes, present bass, snappy envelopes and bright keys. I recommend picking an XD up for sure. My only complaint with it is often while creating huge pads I kept finding myself wishing for more voices. This pack takes care of that issue, adding ten voices to each patch. I hope you enjoy it!

this pack gets you
24 Ableton Instrument racks, created from multisampled user patches. No presets, I like to design my own sounds!"

Expanding Sound Organ/Strings Analog Synthesizer Ableton Instruments, built using the Roland RS09

video upload by Expanding Sound

"get the pack here https://expandingsound.gumroad.com/l/...

This pack was built using the last updated version of Ableton Live 10, and will work with any standard version of the latest Ableton Live 10 and above.

The Roland RS09 is a beautiful organ/string analog synthesizer from days past. If you love the sound of big pads on old recordings, then you're going to love this pack. Although there aren't too many tone shaping variations on this synth, I believe you're going to love the sounds I was able to create here. 12 presets that have a similar vibe, yet all different enough to stand out on a track, as well as sit back in that warm blanket of vintage character in the background. I hope you enjoy!

This song was built using the RS09 Ableton Instruments created for this megapack. I think it works well for big sounds, plucky lead melodies and bass tones. Give it a headphone listen as I panned some sounds. Let me know what you think and thanks for listening!"

Behringer VC340 and Roland VP-03 together - Combining the analog and digital synthesizer vocoder

Published on Nov 2, 2019 Expanding Sound

"I've seen quite a few videos comparing these two units. For my money they both sound great and each have useful qualities. The VC340 is analog and has a rich warm sound with a full size key bed and great build quality. The VP-03 has it's portability, sequencing ability and built in audio interface as features that stand apart from its remake counterpart.

I wondered, instead of pitting them against each other, like others have, how do they sound together? They are so similar in tone that using them together just adds more fullness to the sound. The only difficult aspect to navigate was using a microphone. I decided to run a mic into a mixer and split it into both units. The result is a little airy as the mixer isn't the best quality, but with the strings and voice patches you can really hear how great the two sound added together. I was going to sell my VP-03 after I got the VC340. Now, I'm not so sure!"

Korg Volca FM polyphonic synth and Coffee Shopped DX Touch iOS App functionality and limitations

Published on May 12, 2016 Expanding Sound

Spotted this one on discchord.

iTunes: Patch Touch: for Yamaha DX/TX - Coffeeshopped LLC

Note the KORG Volca FM does not currently respond to realtime editing via external editors. Instead, it responds to complete patch dumps. For example also check out the Patch Base editor video with the Volca FM here.

"Korg is releasing a new 3 voice, 6 operator fm synthesizer known as the Volca FM. Fm synthesis was very popular in the 80's with the Synclavier and, of course, the Yamaha DX7: one of the most popular synths of that decade. With 80s music experiencing a renaissance, Korg has made this affordable and fun Volca to bring the sound of the DX7 back into the spotlight.

I own a DX7, and like many others, have always found it difficult to program. However, Coffee Shopped's DX Touch iOS App made it very easy to visualize exactly how fm synthesis works, and made it much easier to make my own patches. When I heard about the Volca FM, I wanted to see if it was possible to make DX Touch work with it. Check out the video to see the results, and don't forget to subscribe! Also Check out our website to get free samples and Ableton Instruments, and stay in the loop with everything going on here at Expanding sound.

"The long-awaited desktop module of KORG’s next-generation analog synthesizer

minilogue xd module is the new desktop module version of minilogue xd, the four-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer with a customizable digital multi-engine and built-in stereo digital effects.

The desktop module is equipped with the same controllers as the keyboard version, making it a great choice not only as an additional sound module for your keyboard or DAW but also providing excellent performability, giving you an easy way to include an analog polyphonic synth in your setup. It's also equipped with a poly-chain function that lets you connect it with another minilogue xd or minilogue xd module so that the two units can operate as a polysynth with a total of up to eight voices in your studio or on stage.

Add the sounds of the minilogue xd to your setup or system!

Equipped with an analog synthesizer circuit and a digital multi-engine

Voice structure of minilogue xd is 2VCO + MULTI ENGINE, 1VCF, 2EG, 1VCA, and 1LFO. In addition to the distinctive circuits found in the series, such as wave shaping to shape the overtones of the oscillator and a sync/ring switch, there's also cross modulation, a two-pole filter that can be both sharp and fat, and a drive switch that adds thickness and drives signal into minilogue xd’s filter. Every parameter has been tuned in detail based on what musicians want out of their synth. The sounds range from the warm pads typical of analog to fat basses and crisp lead sounds, covering every situation.

The additional sound design possibilities of digital sound are delivered by the multi-engine: the third oscillator in addition to the two analog VCOs. This engine, which is equipped with three different types of sound generator (noise, VPM, and open-source user oscillators) lets you take advantage of a sonic character that's different than analog, and use it at the same time as the analog engine, infinitely expanding xd module’s potential through hybrid sound design.

High-quality digital effects

minilogue xd’s high-quality digital effects use 32-bit floating point DSP processing, adding a finishing touch to its deep sound design platform. The three types (modulation effects, reverb, and delay) can be used simultaneously, letting you choose from a wide range of variations including chorus, ensemble, warm tape delay, and a diverse variety of reverb. The user effect slots allow you to load your own effect programs that you've created.

User customization brings out infinite potential

Spitfire Audio Announces Availability of New ORBIS Library - One-of-a-Kind Synthesizer

Walkthrough: Orbis Uploaded on Jul 16, 2019 Spitfire Audio

"Paul takes us through the new Orbis library- a one-of-a-kind synthesizer born out of rare recordings from around the globe, presented in Spitfire's sophisticated eDNA Engine."

Official press release follows:

Spitfire Audio announces availability of ORBIS plug-in presented in eDNA engine as a horizon-expanding ‘world synth’

“Great film music often blends sounds from different cultures to create a rich tapestry; ORBIS lets you infuse your music with DNA from around the world — from incredibly useful, original recordings through to beautifully evolving textures.”
- Paul Thompson, composer and Spitfire Audio co-founder

LONDON, UK: Spitfire Audio is proud to announce availability of ORBIS — offered as a horizon-expanding ‘world synthesizer’ standalone plug-in, presented in the sound-specialising British music technology company’s sophisticated eDNA engine, enabling exceedingly creative access to 2,500 extraordinary sounds born out of organic performances treated and transported to new dimensions, designed for progressively-minded composers as a gargantuan creative compendium comprising distorted loops to evolving textures and visceral one-shots, subsonic low-end to ethereal pads, perfect for producing rich-sounding, panoramic scores from nature documentaries to sci-fi movies — as of July 18…

Sometimes a score needs more than an orchestra. ORBIS reimagines the work of David Fanshawe (1942-2010), an English composer, sound explorer, and ethnomusicologist who travelled the globe to gather an archive of approximately 2,000 hours of music, documented for posterity at a time of great change. “The present is almost history; every day is worth recording.” So stated the man himself.

However, ORBIS itself is so much more than a collection of organic field recordings; rather it includes 90% treated content, with over 200 presets, plus loops, textures, one-shots, and pads created by Spitfire Audio’s accomplished team of engineers in its own journey of sonic discovery, distilled — alongside clean recordings, rich in history, character, and emotion — in the sound-specialising British music technology company’s sophisticated eDNA engine to provide users with virtually endless parameters and possibilities for enhancing their own scores with the DNA of countless cultures from across the globe.

Enduring and enthralling, David Fanshawe’s rarefied recordings have already made themselves heard in scores to major movies such as 1997’s Seven Years In Tibet (John Williams) and 2002’s Gangs Of New York (Howard Shore); now they are ready and able to empower anyone’s scoring sensibilities as an essential resource for producers, composers, or sound designers intent on seeking out new sounds — or even civilisations! After all, sounds are the fabric from which music is weaved.

With that thought in mind, maybe it was inevitable that Spitfire Audio would creatively cross paths with the David Fanshawe World Music Archive. As such, ORBIS was effectively conceived back in January 2015, when widow Jane Fanshawe introduced Spitfire Audio co-founder and composer Paul Thomson to the global sonic explorer’s namesake legacy. “Listening to these extraordinarily vivid recordings is like looking through a window into a different time and place,” pronounces the clearly captivated listener.

Literally placing them into a different time and space, Spitfire Audio subsequently handpicked thousands of extraordinary sounds from those extraordinarily vivid recordings, really resulting in a so-called ‘world synthesizer’ since ORBIS users are able to delve deeper into some of the most rare and distinctive sounds and loops on the planet, rich in history, character, and emotion encompassing a range of cultures and communities, many of which no longer exist; enhancing every sound still further with ORBIS’ own exploratory eDNA is inevitable.

Imagine the eDNA engine as a set of two turntables alongside a highly-sophisticated DJ mixer. It includes two sound bays — A and B, each designed to create differing sonic treatments, with individual and independent modulators and control of TRIM, BEND, GLIDE, CLONE, TUNE, ADSR (envelope), HI-PASS (filter), LO- PASS (filter), and WOBBLE (modulating VOLUME, PITCH, and FILTER). Furthermore, the GATE SEQUENCER allows for independent gating of those two bays and unified control of amount, speed, and LENGTH of sequence. These two signals are then unified with an x-fader; move between the sounds with the mouse or the factory default-assigned modulation wheel. Elsewhere, eDNA’s five-stage FX (effects) path contains 41 custom plug-ins, including preloaded bespoke IRs (Impulse Responses). The BAY A FX and BAY B FX stages affect sound bay A or B, while an AUX FX stage can be sent via the layers or MASTER FX stage.

Obviously ORBIS easily enables sonic journeying of its own doing. Discover hundreds of presets treated in various ways, with Spitfire Audio’s acclaimed sampling expertise and technology twisting and turning every sound through 3,000 lines of code! Some sound subtly manipulated while others are heavily processed, unrecognisable from their original source material.

Musically-speaking, ORBIS travels far — from playable one-shots and short phrases to tuned and untuned rhythmic loops and recordings up to a minute long. Ultimately, unearthing sounds with subtle movement, complexity, and evolution is an ear-opening experience. Throbbing basses and pulsing loops, ideal for dance music; thunderous drones, subsonic low-end and visceral, tortured drum hits, for adding movement and depth; Blade Runner-style synths, made from antelope horns; and ethereal pads and breathtakingly beautiful evolving textures, for three-dimensional cinematic soundscapes... the very nature of ORBIS’ design takes its users to new levels of sonic exploration and adventure. A lifetime of inspiration as an essential resource awaits anyone creatively climbing aboard.

As to the finished product’s potency, Paul Thomson is clearly qualified to comment, enthusiastically ending on a high note: “This is a really rich tapestry of sounds; it’s almost like a new kind of ‘world synth’ which goes from the raw sounds that are incredibly useful all the way through to beautiful, undulating, evolving textures made from these incredible organic recordings.”

ORBIS can be purchased and digitally downloaded as an AAX-, AU-, and VST-compatible plug-in that loads directly into a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) for a time-limited introductory promo price of £229.00 GBP (inc. VAT)/$269.00 USD/€269.00 EUR (inc. VAT) until August 1, 2019 — rising thereafter to an RRP of £299.00 GBP (inc. VAT)/$349.00 USD/€349.00 EUR (inc. VAT) — from here: https://www.spitfireaudio.com/shop/a-z/orbis/"

Unlike typical sequencers, this kit offers many tricks and modifications like adjusting Sequence length by connecting solder pads together at the bottom right of the PCB, routing pins to make a one-shot sequence playback, even creating a tempo clock or influencing the analog signals of LEDs. If any of that sounds too simple you can interface with more hardware like synchronizing multiple sequencers and more!

Be aware, the SparkPunk Sequencer comes as a solderable kit that is slightly more complex than most SparkFun soldering kits with a greater variety of components."

"The SparkPunk Kit is a sound generator made in the spirit of the Atari Punk Console. Rather than simply recreating the Atari Punk, the SparkPunk is a new design that springs from a similar foundation. It starts with a dual 555 timer IC, then adds a second tone source, sub-octaves and a bandpass filter. With all of the knobs and switches, a lot of tonal variations are possible. As a through-hole kit, the SparkPunk can also be easily extended and modified, expanding the palette of tones even further.

The SparkPunk is a very simple synthesizer, using the somewhat conventional arrangement of oscillators that feed a filter. All you need to know to play this sound generator is to press the button, operate the control knobs, listen to the results, and adjust your music to how you want it. The SparkPunk is intended for you to explore and have fun! Some people are drawn to mellow, soothing sounds, while others prefer clangourous tones, and that’s fine, to each their own. With all of the controls, you should be able to explore both ends of the spectrum.

In addition, the SparkPunk is quite customizable as well. Any knob with a 0.25" inner diameter can be attached to the tops of each potentiometer, external speaker lines can be soldered into the board for a more permanent sound distrobution option, and photocells can be added to control the kit without actually touching it. There are plenty more optional modifications that can be added and played with."

Accessing Hidden Waves on the Ensoniq SQ-80 & ESQ-1

"First dual normal saws, and then I activate the 'Hidden Waves' on the 3rd oscillator, After that i play a few of the other Hidden Waves

I got hold of a ROM from Ebay [you can find some here] that allows access to extra "Hidden Waves" in the SQ80.
Not sure if they are extra hidden waves as such, but more like glitched areas in the waveform memory area

They change sounds every octave and some sound identical to the normal waves, and there are duplicates. Still it does add something interesting, and has that extra warmth of the SQ80 analog bits"

via Sam on the AH list:
"The ESQ-1 can access these "hidden waveforms" as well. (I wrote an article for the Transoniq Hacker, probably in the early '90's, about this.) In fact, Syntaur sells a bank of sounds for the ESQ that relies on these waves. They are not really extra waves (purposefully created) that are somehow hidden - but it was a good marketing term...
Instead of finding real waveforms, you're just telling the machine to look outside of the regular wavetable to get its wave data. So it's grabbing wave data from various points in the firmware that are supposed to be other things. For example, what comes up as WAV123 might really be a bit of the code that tells the keyboard how to respond to incoming MIDI data or something. So most of the hidden waves are going to sound really glitchy (which can be cool, too), but a few of them actually sound musical. In any case, you can certainly make the ESQ or SQ-80 sound different from what it's supposed to sound like.
You can get to the waves in a couple of different ways. The most popular way (on an ESQ) is to insert a cartridge that has SQ-80 sounds which use the SQ-80's expanded wave table. The ESQ doesn't know how to acces the expanded waves, so you end up seeing WAV053 and such instead of the regularly-named waves from the table. We did it another way: by actually crashing the OS (I think we loaded in crazy data through the Tape In), and this way, we got many more of the "hidden" waves (over a hundred, I think). The problem is that you can scroll downward through them, but you can never go back up. One other thing with this method we used was that it also gave parameter values that were outside the "legal" ranges, such as really high octave settings and such.
I've seen the eBay listings for the EPROMs that do this, and I was curious how the seller did it, and how well everything works.
Sam"

via this auction
"Ensoniq ESQ1 V3.5HW Hidden Waves EPROMs Circuit Bent
Expand the Sound Pallette of Your ESQ1
International buyers shall be responsible for all customs, levies or VATS imposed by their country.

Included in this listing:

2 upgrade EPROMs to upgrade 1 ESQ1 unit
Printed instructions

About the upgrade: The 3.5HW OS (designated as 3.53 on startup screen) is identical to the standard 3.5 OS, with the addition of 180 waveform selections. These 'hidden waveforms' are mostly 'glitch' type of sounds and many selections change character/sound with every octave.

What do they sound like?: Many of the waveforms are glitchy and raw--as if the ESQ1 is circuit bent, making sounds it isn't supposed to. Many of the waveforms are also similar to the stock waveforms but with some dirtied up a bit. If you are into sound design/effects, 'glitch' electronic, experimental, circuit bending/bent instrument sounds, etc. then it may appeal to you.

Why are they "hidden"?: The hidden waveforms are contained in the standard OS 3.5 however they are not user accessible--Ensoniq probably did not think that they would be usable for average keyboard players. Why are they there in the first place--who knows? Perhaps a placeholder for a more conventional expansion option. But nowadays with sonic pallettes expanding into more experimental territory, the hidden waveforms are more useful, and so the 3.5HW OS lets you use these waveforms that were once hidden. Envelopes, DCA and the ESQ1's analog filters can be applied to these waveforms just as they can to the regular waveforms.

Installation: No soldering required. On units with plastic case, just open up unit and replace EPROMs. Installation on units with metal case requires removing the keyboard to access the socketed EPROMs. More detailed instructions are included with purchase.

EPROMs will be shipped in an anti-static packaging."

Update: Forgot to mention this reminds me of "the happy accident".

Acxel II

Remember the Technos Acxel Resynthesizer (pictured)? I just read this post on Music Thing. Apparently the creator of the Acxel, Pierre Guilmette, is working on a new version. Check out Music Thing for a letter from Pierre.

You can find his website, iDarca Audio here. You'll find a bit of info on resynthesis and some audio samples.

Update some more info on the Acxel:

"Don Garbutt writes: Freaky, obsure, expensive, unique, weighs a lot, robust construction (lots of VLSI chips inside). This machine is impossible to find, although I have one. Lucky me!!! Graphical interface is totally intuitive, and tell me if you know of any other machines that are resynthesis- based, as this is , if you care to use it in this fashion. Kurzweil PCEK8, PCLE Series, and SP4-7 Stage Piano

"PC3K8 Overview [via]
The PC3 introduced the world to a new generation of ground-breaking Kurzweil technology, having a synthesis architecture that remains unparalleled in depth and flexibility, combined with a staggering amount of effects processing power. The PC3 sound set, which encompasses everything from the traditional to the cutting edge, has been widely acknowledged as second to none.

And now the PC3's successor has arrived. The Kurzweil PC3K is the pinnacle of our PC3 line, bridging the gap between Kurzweil's past successes and present innovations.
An Old Friend

The PC3K, already loaded up with the many impressive features and sounds of the PC3, allows users to tap into the massive wealth of samples and programs developed for our legendary K Series over the past 18 years. Capable of loading .KRZ/25/26 sample files, WAVE and AIFF files, as well as most of the K Series programs and setups, the PC3K presents a whole new world of choices to players, and once again underscores our commitment to the concept of non-obsolescence by design. You can choose to delve into the extensive libraries of existing K Series samples or decide to fill the PC3K's flash memory with your own signature samples. In either case, you'll have the most powerful version of Kurzweil's V.A.S.T technology ever developed at your fingertips to help sculpt your sounds and attain a level of detail and expressiveness truly worthy of your music. Sample files can be loaded via USB from a thumb-drive or directly from a computer.
Esto Immortalis

~ "Let it be lasting, immortal" (Latin)

User samples that do not "go away" when a keyboard is powered off - this is a feature that's been requested by keyboardists since the introduction of digital sampling in the early '80s. Clearly demonstrating the virtue of enduring quality, the PC3K offers 128 megabytes of user sample memory and compatibility with K Series files, while also taking an enormous leap forward by allowing user samples to remain intact while power is off. Once samples are loaded into the PC3K's flash memory, there is zero load time for those samples when powering on the instrument.

Advanced program, keymap and sample editing features allow you to customize your sounds with surgical precision. You're able to map any sample to any key, tune individual samples, change the start, alt start, loop point and end point of samples and even assign a controller to adjust sample start point in real-time.
Light Years Ahead

Under the hood of the PC3X is simply the most powerful synthesis engine ever created by Kurzweil. Dynamic V.A.S.T. picks up where the K series left off. Having up to 32 layers per program means that emulations of real instruments can be extremely detailed and accurate, while the synthesized sounds can be extraordinarily large and complex.

Expanding upon our V.A.S.T. architecture, the PC3X's new architecture delivers more power and flexibility combined with unprecedented ease of use. Users can now create and store their own DSP algorithms, with nearly limitless possibilities for routing.

In another huge development, we've resurrected the VA-1 Virtual Analog Synthesizer, having built it's synthesis engine right into the new system. Hear the VA-1's power-shaped, anti-aliasing oscillators (including supersaw, triplesaw, and hard sync oscillators) combined with a newer, larger set of V.A.S.T. filters (like the classic-style 4pole low pass w/ resonance) and non-linear processors and you'll understand why the internet is buzzing about this feature.
It's The Sound

The PC3 Series's advanced synthesis architecture, along with its painstakingly-edited sample ROM, allowed us to create a sound set that is both broad and deep, with no compromises on sound quality. Referred to by some in the music industry as "the solid gold Swiss army knife", the PC3 line has become well known for having covered all the bases when it comes to presets. Whether it's the famous Kurzweil grand piano, the wide array of deadly-accurate vintage keys emulations, KB3 Mode, VA virtual analog sounds or the hundreds of world-class orchestral and string section programs, the PC3K provides over 900 presets that let you know that it does everything and does it well.
Plug And Play

Saving, loading and updating the OS are all made easy on the PC3K with the inclusion of both USB Host and Device ports. You can save your user programs, setups and songs to a USB thumb-drive or directly to a computer. Samples and OS updates can be loaded from a thumb-drive or directly from your computer, and of course the PC3K sends and receives MIDI over USB.
Finishing Touch

In a nod to the design of classic synths and keyboard instruments from years past, the PC3K, the top of our PC3 line, has been fitted with handsomely crafted wooden end-caps, adding an element of luxury and refinement that beautifully complements the awesome technology at the heart of every Kurzweil keyboard.

""PC3LE6 Overview [via]
The Best Sounds, The Best Features, The Right Price
First Things First...

Fantastic sounds, reliable performance, musical expressiveness, ease of use; these are the things we believe are essential to the design of an affordable keyboard instrument. Kurzweil's new PC3LE6 combines the amazing sound quality and performance control features of our enormously successful PC3 with a new streamlined, intelligent user interface, providing an interactive experience that is bound to inspire creativity.
It's The Sound...

Under the hood, the PC3LE features the same groundbreaking chip technology that has made the PC3 the most talked about keyboard in recent years. All of the PC3's sounds are included - the famous Kurzweil grand piano, vintage electric pianos, Clavinets and Mellotrons, dazzling Orchestral and Strings collections, stunning VA virtual analog synths, KB3 organs, realistic basses, drums, guitars, percussion and horns, General MIDI, plus nearly 200 new programs developed specifically for the LE; over 1050 programs in all. We've improved the method for navigating through such a massive sound set; programs in the LE can be viewed and selected with a new set of Category buttons. Select "Leads" and you'll see a list of all the synth leads in the machine, grouped together. Same goes for the other 20 categories, everything from Synth Bass to Mallets to Guitars.

These programs take advantage of our V.A.S.T. synthesis engine, using pristine samples paired with detailed programming of literally hundreds of synth and effects parameters. Whether it's the rosin of a bowed string instrument, the resonant harmonics of a piano's damper pedal, or the thumps and squeaks of an electromechanical keyboard, we've done our homework and provided a level of detail and realism that can only be found in a Kurzweil. Which means you can focus on the important business of making music.

The PC3LE6 comes equipped with over 700 onboard effects chains from which to choose, all with real-time controllers already assigned to relevant parameters. With world class reverbs that decay into complete silence, warm, classic sounding phasers, flangers and choruses, and burning, saturated distortions, you'll have everything you need to make your music sound like a polished, finished product from the outset. The PC3LE6's architecture provides up to 10 insert effects, which can be distributed among 10 channels, with an available auxiliary effect as well.
Interactive...

In the PC3, we introduced the "INFO" feature, a soft button-press that allows the user to see which controllers have been assigned to parameters within a program. For the LE, we've taken this to the next level, with an interactive user interface that communicates directly with you whenever you move a real-time controller. Turn a knob, hit a button or move a wheel and the LE's screen will display the controller, its real-time value and the parameter being affected. An example would be moving the modwheel on an organ program - you would see the following: "Modwheel 79 Distortion Drive". This system never breaks down - you can change effect chains freely and all of this info remains intact, updated to reflect the new chain you've selected. Also, this info is transferred seamlessly to Setup Mode - you can see whatever controllers have been assigned to programs used in any zone of a setup.
Customizing Your Sound...

Prefer to spend your time playing over sound-programming? Think of the LE as the preset-player version of the original PC3. All the sound, no deep programming necessary.

At the same time, we wanted to give users the quickest, simplest possible way to adjust the PC3LE's sounds to suit individual tastes and needs. In any given program or effects chain, select relevant parameters have been pre-assigned real-time controllers for easy access. Move a controller and hit the SAVE button - no menus, no pages with endless parameters - and you get one touch sound customization.

Also, we understand that flexibility is important when it comes to customizing your sound. Don't want filter frequency control on a knob? Prefer to have it assigned to the modwheel? No problem. The PARAMETERS page allows you to re-assign any controller to any available* parameter. You can save your custom sounds to the user bank, with over 1000 ID slots.

*available parameters are predetermined and vary per program
A Different Drummer...

With the PC3LE6, we're introducing a new set of dynamic physical controllers - 8 backlit, velocity-sensitive drum pads that can be used to trigger sounds, sequences, chords and arpeggiations. Every program in the machine has a drum kit assigned to the pads, so you'll always have access to a rhythm track when you need it. As a bonus, we've included a set of over 100 new drum programs, with acoustic brush kits, slammin' rock kits and a number of heavily effected techno/electronic kits, in addition to the 24 existing kits from the PC3. Just as we put a great deal of effort into making sure that our keyboard action feels just right, the drum pads were implemented with precision and care, with utmost attention given to how they feel when played. After all, this is a musical instrument and not just a piece of technology.
Everything Else You'd Expect...

Complimenting the LE's new features are a few old familiar Kurzweil favorites; Setup Mode, Quick Access Mode and Song Mode, all taken directly from the PC3.

Setup Mode enables the LE to act as a powerful MIDI controller as well as providing 16 simultaneous, independent, fully programmable arpeggiators, with factory and user-programmable patterns. On top of that, each setup can have up to 16 simultaneous Riffs - sequences that can be triggered by buttons, drum pads or notes on the keyboard. While Setup Mode, with up to 16 zones each with its own program, is still as powerful as ever, we've added a Split/Layer button to make the creation of simple setups quick and easy.

Quick Access Mode allows you to create custom banks of 10 sounds that can be accessed by a single button-press. And Song Mode delivers a full-featured 16 track sequencer with all of the powerful editing features that you'd find in a high end workstation - event editing, swing, controller scaling, input quantize, input filter, and chasing controls. User memory provides over 1000 ID slots each for your own QA banks, Setups and Songs.
Connectivity...

Saving, loading and updating the OS are all made easy on the LE with the inclusion of both USB Host and Device ports. You can save your user programs, setups and songs to a USB thumb-drive or directly to a computer. OS updates can be loaded from a thumb-drive or directly from your computer, and of course the LE sends and receives MIDI over USB. Standard MIDI jacks are also included for In, Out and Thru. For audio, the PC3LE6 features high-quality, hum-canceling, stereo balanced analog outputs, with 24-bit DACs as well as a 24-bit stereo S/PDIF digital output at 48K.

Enjoy this years Holiday Giveaway- Ableton Live Reed Organ Instrument

A fellow musician friend Laurie Ann invited me over to check out her Estey reed organ (or field organ as she referred to it). Naturally I had to sample it! Reeds have such a great sound to them. The pump action style of playing with your feet is very fun. It can be a little on the noisy side, so I decided to sample the organ by filling the chambers with air and letting the reeds play out. I proceeded to sample the organ while pumping it full of air to get the mechanism sound. With your pump pedal potentiometer located in the instrument rack, you can add the amount of foot pump sound into the samples being played. It turned out to be a very cool effect.

The song I made in the demo video came out quite dark. I find it humorous. When I make the demo videos songs for each video I don't start the process with a melody, or even an idea. I usually let the sound itself inspire me to make music based on its tonal structure. In this specific case I think the music was more reactionary. Most Christmas music is so upbeat! All I've heard lately are these holly jolly songs and I think I was just interested in going somewhere else with the tone.

Anyway, I hope you dig the free instrument, and if you can please check out Laurie Annes Music. She was nice enough to let me sample the organ and share with everyone. I think it came out great."

Tama Techstar Ableton Megapack, 11 Instruments, 4 drum racks, 100 plus samples

Published on Aug 22, 2019 Expanding Sound

http://www.expandingsound.com

"Compatible with Ableton Live Lite 9.7.7 and above.

Theres a lot more than a simple analog drum sound set here. I was able to create musical instrument racks from the voices of the drum machines.
Analog drum machines are not sample based. Each drum sound is its own analog synthesizer voice, able to be manipulated, though not the extent of your standard keyboard synthesizer. This made it possible for me to tweak the drum voices to create melodic sustained pitches. With those samples, I was able to create key based instruments.

One of my favorite things about this pack was how fun the creation process was. Often when I'm making a pack, theres a thought in mind to how the instruments should sound, due to the synths reputation or style. With this pack it was like working from scratch. As I created my showcase jam, I also created the Instrument racks. So they're based more on my taste rather than what I think a drum machine sample pack should be. If you like the sound of the jam, you'll dig this pack.

I used two Techstar units to create this pack, the TS 202 and the TS 306. Also included in the project are all the samples I did not use that I created. Each sample is in a properly marked folder, so feel free to use them in your own drum racks!

Thanks for checking out this vid and make sure to check out some of our other packs!"

New Korg Wavestate Wave Sequencing Synthesizer Revealed

Published on Jan 6, 2020 Korg

Update: Details are in... Playlist with the first user videos added below.

"Legendary synthesis, radically re-imagined. Organic, inspirational, and mind-blowingly powerful.

KORG’s legendary Wavestation introduced the world to Wave Sequencing, transforming raw samples into sounds that no-one had ever heard before. The flagship OASYS and KRONOS keyboards developed Wave Sequencing even further, expanding on its unique palette of lush, evolving pads and driving rhythms.

Now, KORG is proud to announce the next step in digital synthesis: the wavestate. Featuring the radically re-imagined Wave Sequencing 2.0, the wavestate delivers astonishing, ever-changing sounds with extensive hands-on control.

Far from a nostalgic reissue, the wavestate is designed from the ground up for a new generation of musicians, producers, and composers, taking cues from sources as diverse as modular synths, groove boxes, and algorithmic composition. The compact form-factor, with 37 full-size keys, transports easily and fits neatly into any stage, studio, or desktop setup."

Highlights:

"With the Wavestation, each step of a Wave Sequence had a duration, a sample, and a pitch. This created ear-catching patterns–but the patterns repeated the same way, over and over. What if they could evolve in organic, unexpected ways, instead of just repeating?

Wave Sequencing 2.0 splits apart the timing, the sequence of samples, and the melody, so that each can be manipulated independently. Also added are new characteristics including shapes, gate times, and step sequencer values. Each of these is a “Lane,” and each Lane can have a different number of steps and its own start, end, and loop points.

Every time the sequence moves forward, the individual Lanes are combined to create the output. For instance, a sample may be matched with a different duration, pitch, shape, gate length, and step sequence value every time that it plays. You can modulate each Lane’s start, end, and loop points separately for every note, using velocity, LFOs, envelopes, Mod Knobs, or other controllers. Each note in a chord can be playing something different!

Lanes can also randomize the step order every time they play, with realtime control over the range of included steps. Finally, individual steps can be randomly skipped, with a modulatable probability from 0 to 100%. The result is organic, ever-changing sounds that respond to your control. The four onboard arpeggiators can interact with Wave Sequences for even more possibilities."

"KORG R&D created the original Wavestation, co-created the OASYS and Kronos, and has developed fundamental technologies behind many other KORG instruments. The wavestate reflects their unique aesthetic, delivering stunning sound and deep flexibility via cutting-edge technologies.

Three of the key sound designers from the original Wavestation, John Bowen [of John Bowen Synth Design & the Solaris], John “Skippy” Lehmkuhl (Plugin Guru), and Peter “Ski” Schwartz, joined Belgian artist Airwave and the renowned KORG voicing team to create the incredible wavestate sound library."

"Bursting with knobs and controllers, the wavestate invites you to explore. All of the basics–filter, envelopes, LFOs, effects–are at your fingertips with dedicated front-panel controls. Eight programmable Mod Knobs are customized to bring out the most in every sound, often taking them in entirely new directions. Use the knobs in realtime performance, and also save the results as new sounds. Add in the Pitch Bend and Modulation Wheels and the unique Vector Joystick, and you’ll always have multiple dimensions of realtime expression.

Want to dig deeper? Almost all front-panel knobs, and most on-screen parameters, can be modulated. You can even modulate settings for individual Wave Sequence Steps! Mod Processors let you transform modulation signals using quantization, smoothing, curvature, and more."

"Randomization that inspires.

Looking for even more inspiration? A dedicated front-panel button, marked by a “dice” icon, generates new sounds via intelligent randomization. Randomize the entire sound or just a part of it, such as the filter, the Sample Lane, or the effects. Use the results directly, or as a jumping-off point for your own creations.
An arsenal of effects.

The wavestate’s superb effects deliver production-ready sounds. Each Layer has three dedicated effects; additionally, the Performance has a master reverb and parametric EQ. Along with standards such as compressors, EQs, choruses, flangers, phasers, and stereo delays, you’ll find distinctive processors such as the Wave Shaper, Talking Modulator, Reverse Delay, Multiband Mod Delay, and Overb (from the OASYS), plus modeled effects including VOX guitar amps, VOX wah, multi-head tape echo, and a collection of classic guitar pedals."

"Choose your filter.

Add vintage character to your sounds with the aggressive MS-20 Lowpass or Highpass filters, or the strong, sweet Polysix Lowpass. Shape and refine with a full collection of resonant 2-pole and 4-pole Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass, and Band Reject filters. Or, step outside the box with KORG’s unique Multi Filter, which creates modulatable blends of multiple modes simultaneously.
Ample samples. 64 stereo voices.

Totaling in the gigabytes, the wavestate’s sample library is more than a thousand times larger than that of the original Wavestation. That’s a lot of great-sounding raw material for Wave Sequences. There’s a bank of samples from Plugin Guru, brand-new samples from KORG, and a selection from the Kronos and Krome libraries. Of course, KORG also provides all of the Wavestation’s samples (including all options), plus a huge library of Wavestation Wave Sequences. Play up to 64 stereo voices with pristine clarity, using KORG’s proprietary anti-aliasing sample playback technology."

"Multiply by four.

With all of that synthesis power, you might think the wavestate would play only one sound at a time. Not a chance. For even more rich and complex results, layer up to four Programs together in a Performance–each with their own effects and arpeggiator. The Vector Envelope and Joystick mix the individual voices of the four Layers, and can also modulate any other parameters."

"Set Lists and Smooth Sound Transitions.

Set Lists offer effortless organization of your wavestate Performances, and deliver instant access at the gig or in rehearsal. Smooth Sound Transitions allow previously-played voices and effects to continue to ring out naturally, even once a new sound has been selected.
Plays well with others.

Balanced stereo outputs connect to any recording or monitoring system, and a stereo headphone output is provided for private playing or onstage cueing. Din-style MIDI jacks ensure connection to other MIDI-equipped instruments and audio gear. The wavestate supports class-compliant USB MIDI connections to Windows and Mac computers, and the wavestate librarian program is available as free download from KORG."
